Here are timestamps for every weapon! (Had to repost this comment because i messed up one of the timestamps and youtube wasn’t letting me edit it). But anyway, enjoy! (there are two timestamps because he talked about each weapon twice) Sword and shield: 1:00 & 38:10 Greatsword: 3:28 & 39:02 Longsword: 6:12 & 41:33 Dual Blades: 9:05 & 40:50 Hammer: 11:00 & 42:15 Hunting Horn: 13:05 & 43:11 Lance: 16:32 & 44:07 Gunlance: 19:17 & 45:10 Light Bow-gun: 22:24 & 46:24 Heavy bow-gun: 25:02 & 47:20 Bow: 27:34 & 48:14 Switch Axe: 30:04 & 50:19 Insect Glaive: 32:30 & 49:20 Charge Blade: 35:18 & 51:35 This is kind of messy but i did my best, hope this helps!
I once played with a HH main who, not lying, used some weird buff stacking that regenerated about 70% of any HP lost within 2 seconds of getting hit. And he dropped on the ground a buff that would further extend this insane regen like Vaal Hazak armor - bringing me back up to full over like 10 seconds. I wish I could stomach the insanely slow attack speed of the horn in this game because, man, that HH turned 3 carts vs velkhana to being able to close my eyes and 0 cart tank to the end.
hh needs a switch skill in wilds that makes it a dps first weapon (but not like rise hh coz that one was weird) then the 2nd one turns it into the "OG" hh from world
@@granthefato340 I remember seeing a breakdown of speedruns in Rise on 1.0 release - the HH was near the bottom in solo but the best single weapon to bring in 4 player coop, provided only one player was using it, due to the Atk Up buff.
@@revolverclassic8248I’ve always wanted to see a light version of the HH but as drums, using echo attacks give me a little mallet and some bongos on my hip and have it play like SnS and HH had a baby.
A con for elemental weapons that I feel is still important to mention because newer players may not know about it is that you "need" to make multiple sets of weapon which can be quite the grind sometime.
I'm new to the game, can you explain what you mean by multiple sets of a weapon? So far I got my bone shotel to hard bone shotel but I use the defender LS which I've upgraded twice now... Am I doing something wrong that's not maximising my defender LS damage??
@@MysticGohan01 playing longsword, don't worry too much about it. Some faster elemental weapons like dual blades get most of their damage from using an element that the monster is weak to. Because of that, when you first build, lets say a fire dual blade, and you go fight a rathalos or something resistant to fire, then your damage drops immensely. To get the most out of those kind of weapons, you often "need" one of each element. "Need" in quotation because you can always just brute force your way through, your hunts will just be way longer. Side note, Defender weapons make this mostly irrelevent for most weapons as they are absolutely busted until end-game so don't worry about it.
@@MysticGohan01if you start MHW recently you don't have to worry about it. Defender Armor set and Weapons are good enough for base world and the defender weapon will still be good half way through Iceborne. What we are talking about here is that for weapons heavily reliant on elements such as Dual Blade or Bow need multiple sets of the same weapon. For example you will need a dragon elemental dual blade against dragon element weak monster, Ice elemental dual blade for Ice weak monster and so on.
Great video as always. I only want to advocate for my favorite weapon, the switchaxe. One of the best thing that I forgot that you could do in iceborne is when your sword mode goes away, but you still have the zero discharge ready, you can grapple on a monster and zero discharge even if the sword mode isn't ready. It doesn't make it completely stronger or changes the tier, but it's a cool technic for who struggles a bit with the switchaxe. I'm playing rise recently, but I also got back to world to play with two friends that start now and it's wonderful to remember those little tricks again.
It's more like the definition of that one meme where it's a giant dent on the plane and it's just shows a steroid infused pigeon just flexing his wings saying - "Bring it OOOON!!!"
Random tip from watching your longsword background footage where you missed helmsplitter, if you press the attack again midair while aiming somewhere else you can change which direction you will slash down towards, so if you held towards the monster and attacked while coming down you wouldnt have missed. Great video!!
As a bow main I completely agree with the bow, it has the highest high and the lowest low. When MHW was released I started using bow and was the one suffering in my MH friend group, stamina running out, can’t take any hits, coats cost a lot, and has to build a bow for each element so a lot more farming. I stuck to it and once I figured out how it works I was able to clear most first encounters in around 5 mins, even when Behemoth and Kulve Taroth were first released I was consistently the player that dealt the most dmg and stunned the monster the most time in my group. Then IB released and with the weak point mechanic and some OP armor set bonus, my fav weapon is stronger than ever.
just wanna give a shoutout to HH mains, you guys are so rare its like searching for downy crakes, overall, i was farming a raging brachy to get 4 reactors to craft the greaves and 3 weapons i really like to use. At some point an HH came in and the buffs made the raging brachy feel likea regular one which was insane
One of my favorite things about the HBG is it’s very versatile on how you want to use it. I had a lot of fun making a sticky explosive ammo build and a sleepy wake up build hitting like 4-5k+ dmg on a wake up. Using sticky’s to keep monsters down a long time in COOP. Very fun
ok so the one singular feature that makes hammers an S+ tier for solo and multiplayer in world is aerial hammer. not only will you only be rivaled in ko dmg by dedic
Thanks for showing my comment on GS. Your content is fantastic, Tera. Always makes my day a little better whenever I see an upload. Almost 13K subs as well! Let’s go!!!!!!
amazing video for any new player. I have a few friends that are new too the game and struggle a lot in deciding which weapon too use. I will share this video with anyone that needs basic information on weapons in the game. Thanks for the great content and easy too understand articulation. :)
One of my least/favorite things about hammer it is the opposite of long sword. It gets punished the most when long Sword flinches you, but you shouldn't get flinched because of monster part placement. So the only reason a long sword is flinching you is because they are at the head, and that's your space gosh, darn it. I really think Capcom gave the hammer the uppercut just so that hammers can give the ultimate revenge against longsword users.
I really need to start using the claw uppercut and the sword rush. I've been ignoring both due to locking you into movements, but now that I have learned the motion values and tenderizing facts about SNS for Iceborne I am going to learn.
As a monster hunter fan I love the video! As a street fighter fan don't think I didn't notice you playing some 3rd strike tracks. This overall was a great video, and I'm looking forward to more!! ✊
swapped to Gunlance about 40~ hours of playtime ago... and you're absolutely right. it was a shitshow at first but now idk if i'll ever switch to something else. The damage is crazy and shells do their damage no matter where you hit. The mobility takes getting used to... but once you realize you can hop backwards further/faster than if you hop forwards... it's a game changer lol although you look like a psycho doing it. The Vaal GL w/ long shell is my fav right now. I really enjoyed the normal shelling but i realized i can DPS faster with long shell holding the button to do the charged shell shot. the slinger/wyvern thing where you attach a bomb to the target is amazing as well... it "almost" doubles all the damage you're doing with shells... so my 150~ damage charged shell now does 250 (150 + 100 from the bomb proc). The shield is insane with guard skill maxed out - i wear a charm that gives lv 4 and 1 charm for lv5. I do recommend getting sheathing speed skill to at least lv2... you've gotta sheath a lot with the GL just like the greatsword. Goodluck to all you hunters out there.
Yeah the back hop is actually cracked. Not sure if he still plays but if anyone is reading this you could go check out FairyWilde on twitch. He's a Gunlance expert
Gunlance felt pretty intuitive to me. Also switched to it recently and it was way easier to understand for me than most other weapons. I'm personally really not a fan of having to apply the Wyrmstake Blast all the time so I'm now playing slaplance so I can just ignore it exists without losing damage. I also dodge with evade window instead of blocking. Just feels more comfortable for me.
Ahhh yes, The Psycho with back hop spam and 10k damage that carrying the whole team in Fatalis. I thank you, yes you! The only 6 Gunlance mains i've ever know.
I’m not offended that you’re not as big on Bow Tera, we all have our subjective opinions. Also this explains all the recent community posts in the past few weeks. In World, all I’ve played in is Bow, and I have no where near as much experience in the other weapons, at least compared to Sunbreak, Portable 3rd or Freedom Unite, where I’ve played every weapon extensively. Though that’s just certainly a matter of time investment and hardly not being interested in playing other weapons, I just wanna solo everything with Bow due to being sold on it. Though I’m definitely just biased because Bow is my favorite weapon, my second favorite being Lance. Every weapon has its fans, and whatever we enjoy is purely up to us to decide, and it’s healthy to talk about what we love in our favorite weapons and how we recommend them to people trying to find something that works for them. Cheers Tera.
The bow is definitely a super cool weapon. Somehow it just doesn't tick the right boxes for me in MHW. I could of course compare it to the other games of the series but I figured I didn't want to start a game vs game debate haha. Thanks for watching James
@@TeraRyza It’s not even my favorite version of Bow, to play devils advocate, Sunbreak bow has spoiled me so much haha. Though to be fair to why I love it as well, Dash Dancing gives me so much dopamine and I love that it’s an easy weapon to build around at a base, only really demanding stamina surge and a few levels of constitution. Now making five separate element builds in every monster hunter game when I play Bow does get a bit exhausting.. but I think it’s unironically very satisfying as well, like you’re prepared for every situation. Also you’re welcome Tera.
I´ve been heaving tons of fun with the Dual Blades lately.. getting them all and stuff. I like this tier list.. and btw, thanks Tera for helping me out lately!
What makes LS "weeb". The animations. That sheath is anime af. In multiplayer you need flinch free 1. Its the best DPS deco you can slot in for multiplayer. Hammer is Bonk tier. Hammer will simply never not be fun. +4K Hammer hunts ongoing, still not boring.
I love my Glaive, over 1000hrs on world and its my fav its the most fun once you get the hang of harvesting the kinsect and the vaults you can deal sustainable damage not heavy but pretty consistent, also suggest focusing on the evasive skills, my second fav is the charge blade
Bow destroys annoying fliers that melee weapons have to wait around for. I'll give Tera a pass since he's clearly not a bow player, but it's a high skill high reward weapon. It's just a shame they really beefed up the end game monsters to be resistant to it (Alatreon, AT Velk, Fatalis)
@@soulreaver6300 when you use Bow how it's meant to be used it outputs far more damage than everything in the game except Spread HBG and Wyrmstake Exploit, while also having utility with status coatings, automatically making it better than most other weapons used to their full potential.
@natural9721 outside of Gut's sword, the weaponry if fairly tied to medieval claymores without truly going out of the realm of usability. Where as bleach consistently has weapons far too long & large to be practical from nearly everyone in the show, not just the main character.
One piece has giant swords, most Japanese video games with swords have huge ones (final fantasy, devil may cry, even a good chunk of fire emblem characters have somewhat oversized weapons).
Insect glaive is so slept on for damage. Especially since iceborne. Different slinger ammos offer different buffs that you can apply to your kinsect. Increasing its attack power and doubling its stamina. Combine that with blast clouds. You’re adding so much damage onto an already good dps weapons. IMO it cuts tails faster than GS, and still kos monsters. In a hunt you can slinger bonk monsters to knock them down, mount them to knock them down again, and still get a ko. I often get 4-6 knock downs per hunt. Aerial is fun l, but ground combat is the big damage. Use aerial to reposition and dodge attacks. You can just keep pressure constantly on the monster. It’s insane.
Hey man, I love your videos. I've been playing this game for almost a year (I was a late joiner) fighting fatalis, and I still hope between weapons all the time
I love the gunlance ! It's my fav weapon in world and in GU. The only gripe i have with it in world is that it lost the awesome out-of-shield shell advance that it had in the older games. It's been replaced by the forward hop but I think the shell advance was a much better out of shield option and combo opener. (You can still do it but not from a shielded position, which is what I liked about it the most in GU)
Hey man, great video! I gotta say the community is right on the bow. As a GS main who recently restarted the game using bow, im willing to to lay down for the bow and say the bow is literally the polar opposite of GS. Instead one big number you do many, many numbers. Instead of being locked in place youre quite agile. The damage you can put out is insane. And you CAN cut off tails. Yes i said it... ive made it my goal ever since i learned i could do it. Gearing is not complicated either just match element weaknesses on bow. The rotations, like GS, are fairly basic; and like GS and most weapons, in depth monster and game knowledge will be needed. Combined the bow is a very satisfying and devastating weapon
it’s great to see that all the weapons are viable and fun, huge accomplishment honestly. for me the great sword is just total domination you feel like you are the monster like you have unlimited power
S-tier on mostly solo standpoint is where weapons have the best mobility to chase, evade and/or guard while dishing out major damage. That's-- SnS, LS, Lance-- maybe CB (takes a lot of mastery but it does A LOT) and honorable mention to HH (can buff as if ur a 5-man teams worth of damage), Bow, IG, and Hammer--have decent variety of attacks and dodge friendly moveset. Other weapons have their niche expertise on some hard bosses and can achieve crazy consistency but usually takes a little more effort skill, and investment to dish out major damage, fast hunts, and near flawless run altogether. Like longer animation locks (GS, Hammer, HBG, DB), low mobility (SA, GS, HBG), lacks reach (DB), much investment (HBG, LBG), usually lacks damage (LBG, Bow) P.S. even LS and Lance have their drawbacks (lol SnS is king) --a HH and Hammer main
Hunting Horn Main - One melody set that I find pretty versatile solo or in a group is Attack Melody II: Attack Up(L) Health Recovery(S) Recovery Speed(L) Impact Echo Wave Extended Health Recovery. Impact Echo Wave for knockouts, exhaust, and part breaks. Recovery speed for monsters that take away a portion of green health and leave a large red portion. Health Recovery for not needing potions, though may not be as effective. Extended Health Recovery to recover health. Some of my other favorite Melody sets include Attack Melody III and Stamina Melody I. Attack Melody III is very focused on attack with some defense and stamina. Stamina Melody I is very good for stamina with the added bonus of defense and health recovery melodies, though lacking in any attack based melodies. Because of doing a survivability set recently, I decided to use Attack Melody II. Blackveil Vaal Hazak/Gold Rathian set bonuses + Attack Melody II are a wonderful survivability duo. Though the Super Recovery isn't necessary after you get the Health Regen augment on your weapon.
I love your philosophy! The main reason i started the helpful hunters guild was to help players who would feel bad for their lack of "uber 1337 skillz" be able to enjoy MH in a way that they can still be able to see most if not all of the content available, and play to have fun mostly.
While bow is very skill intensive when it comes to stamina and the elusive bow charge plus, the rare decos it needs can easily be avoided while playing through the game because of legiana armor. 4pc legiana in high rank can come with a nice amount of evade window as well as giving mighty bow. In master rank, I'm pretty sure you can mix and match legi and shrieking legi for the (now only) 3pc set bonus. Once you get to namielle, you can run this with 2pc nami for element acceleration as well as the stamina skills that numerous namielle armor pieces can give. It ends up giving a nice excuse to have comfy skills like lots of stamina and evasion because there isn't much more in terms of optimal bow skills playing through the game.
One thing I would add about long sword is that it can still hinder your teammates because of the ridiculously wide attacks. Specifically lances and sometimes HBG with shield mod get kinda screwed because LS hits their shield and shieldstuns them when they didn’t want to. Or even worse, hit lances counter, and make them counter the wrong move and take the hit from the one they meant to counter. I can’t tell you how many times that’s happened to me, and more often than not it’s a LS that did it, because it attacks so wide.
I appreciate you for showing the love for the HH. As a HH Main it is great to hear. I always have this saying, "Hunting Horn, Everyone wants one in their team, but no one really wants to play it" lol.
In my opinion THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A BAD WEAPON all the weapons in mhw are unique in their own way I tried every weapon and loved every single one of them unique and strong and stylish
Insect Glaive main here. There were a few things that were not mentioned: 1.) If you mark the tail with a slash kinsect, you can chop it off without having to directly attack it yourself. 2.) If you mark the head with a blunt kinsect, you can consistently stun the monster, even out of the air. 3.) Repositioning while mounted does a slashing attack. No other weapon in the game does anything like this. You get much higher mount DPS if you constantly shift positions. 4.) Air Evade has I-Frames 5.) There is an infinite ground combo.
About switch axe! It actually has more mobility than you think The side hop s while tight, allow for more precise control of your dodge and once you get used to it, becomes easier to attacks with than the regular roll (though evade window still recommended) Secondly for pure mobility, look no further than rolling and then immediately using a morph attack. Especially from sword to axe, doing so will give you an additional lunge forward after the roll, covering a good amount of distance and being an amazing escape tool in a pinch
I used the return to world as a chance to finally finish learning the charge blade. Took like 100 hours but i dont regret it every time i land a savage axe transform block 😮 Next on the list is the hunting horn
Eyyy, got my comment read! My feeling about these lists is something I commented on one of the polls. Picking S tier for a weapon is like picking a favorite character in Lord of the Rings (the proper trilogy, obviously). Any choice is perfectly reasonable. And the gap between Sam and Legolas isn't anything like the gap between Infinity War and She Hulk. More like Empire and A New Hope. The biggest compliment to this game's combat system is that there simply are no bad weapons. They're all just different levels of absolutely excellent.
It's been awhile since I last played, but as someone who ended up trying lance and loving it one of the most important things to remember about it is that it has insanely high uptime. Once you learn the timings of the boss' attacks you almost never have to stop attacking. Just keep stabbing and when they try to attack you just counter through it and go back to stabbing. This also makes it amazing at applying status effects. Hell you can even counter through monster roars really becoming an unstoppable force.
Heck yea. I picked up Lance with the return to world recently and it has been very satisfying to learn and get progressively better with it. Just need to be more patient and less greedy now lol
15:50 You can stack the Echo 3 times, play all three then recite it. This will make all the Echo hit at the same time giving you damage similar to a Great Sword True Slash. Not the same damage output but roughly the same. After 600+ Hours got my first 3 stack Wake up. No one thinks about this during Wake up as almost no one sees this due to us Hunting Horn Mains being few and far between. Also Hunting Horn songs can give: Divine Blessing, Earplugs, Muck Buff ( Normal Walking speed in mud and snow ), Tremor Resist, Affinity Buff (10% then 20% ), Wind Resistance, Anomaly Resist (Resists Vaal Hazak Status, Sleep, Bracky's and Tero's Blast Blight etc), Blight Resist or Blight Null ( Shortens or Null: Thunder, Dragon, Fire ), Health Boost ( Heals the first time and increases Max HP to 200. ), Stamina Cost Reduction ( Mega Stamina Drink buff ) Thats the standard songs, not the songs that need to spin. ( Seen in video: Impact Echo Wave and Dragon Echo ) Impact Echo Wave gives extra KO Damage. Dragon Echo give Dragon Damage and possibly Dragon Seal? Guessing on that last bit as it seems to drag out their Dragon Abilities. Those songs drop light puddles, Green = Health Regen, Blue = Walking Speed and Evade Window, Yellow = Stamina Regen + Mega Stamina. Walking into the puddle twice for the Buff Boost. This buff isn't effected by Melody Extend so it needs to be dropped again to get it again.
Realistically most will use the same attack melody found on fatty's horn, which centers around attack up L/XL and melody effects extended. The wake up also still is behind TCS by a fair amount, but it is a good alternative should you not have a GS. Presumably most do not know of it because it requires proper recital and encore positioning and usage or you may wake up the monster on accident with an echo or shockwave.
I've always used HBG, LBG and SnS, but after playing around with Lance I finally found my main weap, it is super aggressive and dish out a lot of dmg, it does make you feel great going face to face against the monster and reacting to everything they throw at you.
I have 150h+ with the Hunting Horn and I appreciate all the support (no pun intended!). But after a while, it gets tiresome to maintain the self buff constantly active. Plus, solo hunts take forever, the damage simply isn't there, regardless of how well you play. I also found it better to pre-buff before arena fights, but that also is a pain in the ass. Lastly, most players don't seem to understand what you are doing for the team; for instance some Dual Blades users don't have idea why they can somehow keep Demon Mode so active (because of our Stamina Buff, c'mon!). Weapon design is silly, elemental damage doesn't pay off, etc.. so, even though I used to be a HH main, for me it is a B tier. Fun to use, mobile, but 1h for each solo hunts is too much.
Same here. I switched to dual blades and hbg after 100+ hrs of hh, cut my hunting time by at least a third. They should buff the hh by making the buffs stronger if there are less people.
800h HH main here. Mostly spend messing around, so by no mean an expert, but would agree that S is a bit much. Maybe somewhere in A for me (mostly for some unique buffs that can turn some fights very trivial) I used a lot of elemental build and I don't think it's that bad. I recently stumbled into this guild and I highly recommend any HH player taking a look at it. Very well made guild for any level of players th-cam.com/video/aql9c8UQbJo/w-d-xo.html
It's S tier for some circumstances and a B tier for others. In an aggressive yet attentive group it's S all the way. It can drastically reduce hunt times in groups and result in some valuable broken parts throughout. Solo in master rank quests it's B. As you said, the hunts can reeeeeally drag on forever.
I always make sure to show my gratitude to hunting horn users. By far the best support weapon (no shade, I just know it upsets people lol). Genuinely a game changer though.
Hammer - s-tier in being fun and satisfying to use, but due to how status works, you can only KO monster a couple of times, which makes slugger useless even with secret unlock. Solid mid b-tier weapon. Lance - Even when 2 furious rajang batter you, you can survive. You are that immovable object. Good at applying continuous damage but gets left behind by other weapons. Mid b-tier at best. HH - shines at supporting the team. The team might appreciate the buffs, but I don't think they really care aside from getting healed using wide-range. I dropped it because I feel like a palico with drums. LS - He/She's that sibling your parents gave another allowance. With the foresight and iai slash do you even need to roll? Definitely a dweeb weapon. Solid A tier. Just my personal opinion playing these weapons, at the end of the day I enjoyed using them all.
Just trying bow when am usually Charge Blade, oh boi I lost 3 minutes when hunting due to stamina management. Not gonna mention I also need to prepare more suitable decos because I don't have them, refresh/physique are must to have. But after I got the hang of it, I really confident to beat HBG spammer in terms of ... you know. Yea I agree with you, good build = high investment = slower progress.
As someone that started playing the game last month. The glaive instantly drew me in. Finished the game with it and now on to finishing Iceborn with it.
I'm a rather new player in mhw (just recently unlocked 7 star missions). And so obviously I tried every weapons. I wanted something that gives me correct mobility (so I can at least run instead of walk like Great Sword) and after many tries I find the Switch Axe to be my favorite. Attack speed is just fast enough for me to be able to deal lots of damage before I have to roll around again. Dual blades seemed to easy for attack speed and I couldn't bear the attack speed of great sword. Also the sound it makes when you pull it out is just so good. It's my personal S tier.
Thank you for comments on lance. Definitely very aggressive in the right hands. It's not defensive. It's counter-offensive. Also, the guard capabilities are even better than in your gameplay feature. Pretty sure you had room for more levels of guard.
awww man it’s a bit of a bummer seeing lance so universally low it’s my favorite counterpick weapon and world made it SO mobile with guard dashes (which blocks 360 degrees for some reason) and charges (which can TURN AROUND NOW). Lance rarely has a moment where it can’t block and counter and that makes for such an incredible experience counterpicking diablos or even rathian Something I didn’t see get mentioned is how Lance can actually be a mounting god of a weapon, the charge attack has a jump variation that does mounting damage( ALSO benefitting from Airborne decorations) leading to situations where you can mount three times per hunt for your team’s damage. Lance is also extremely easy to build, in my opinion all the generic damage buffs apply and the only game changing skills are guard, guard up and offensive guard. Just writing for appreciation, I really love the list and everybody’s opinion
Just wanted to clarify that LS has 3 moves (foesightslash, Iai Slash, and Iai sprit slash). Also the drawback of the endframe animation lock from helm breaker can be mitigated by either using the foresight slash right after a helmb breaker or shealthing and preping the Iai Slash or ai Sprit Slash.
The placing of DB by both you and the community give me more confidence as a DB main. I still think there's a lot more I can learn to do with this weapon. That being said, the very short reach can be an issue especially with big monsters that have weak spots in difficult-to-reach areas or just the ones that are constantly flying. I still need to find a good balance between Elemental damage and stamina consumption skills, also I'm heavily debating what's more relevant, if Evade Extender or Evade Window.
Starting MHW over again and I wanna try something different this time. I usually play CB, but I used to used the GS in the older games. You made the GL look so fun tho, I think I might try that next.
Sticky light bowgun with maxed slugger is some of the most fun I’ve had in world, and shines even more in multiplayer. Just running around shooting the monster and getting 4-5 stuns per fight on basically anything is so satisfying. Sure, heavy bowgun could probably out dps it, but in exchange you get much more mobility plus the sliding reload. Only real con imo is how intensive it is to set up, between farming all the ammo and getting the armor you need for it, but once you’ve got enough inventory to not care about burning items it’s a lot of fun
I feel like SnS is the kind of weapon where I know it's a fantastic weapon, yet there's just something missing, it doesn't have that x factor that some other weapons have... I've never played SnS and felt like I had a bad match-up, but I've also never truly felt like a badass while using it if that makes sense. Nothing that makes you feel like you do when you hit a perfectly timed TCS on GS, a perfectly timed iai counter on LS, or the beyblade move on DB. I also think alot of people overestimate the learning curve on GS... I would argue that while mastering GS is hard, the weapon is still very beginner friendly since you can always just adapt a draw attack playstyle, not only is this very easy to build for, but it makes for one of the safest playstyles while getting used to the monsters. It has a very low animation commitment and you can get very good poke damage in very fast... Just 3 levels of quick sheathe and 3 levels of crit draw and you're cruising through most of the game already.
I think the baddassness factor is dependent on the individual playing it. I main sns and i although i do think other weapons are cool but overall istill think beating a huge monster with nothing but a tiny sword and a small shield is the best. I also like the idea of using items while swinging for more environmental control with traps and stuff. Plus shield bashing diving attacks, claw uppercuts and evading backsteps just make me feel like a fucking god lol. Very fair point though and thats why monsterhunter is great cause it has a weapon for everyone
@@fuwafuwamofu4967 I think what I miss from SnS is that big flashy signature move, GS has TCS, CB had SAED, LS has the Spirit Helm Breaker and iai counter, DB has the beyblade, Swaxe has the ZSD, bow has the dragonpiercer and 1k dragons, and Gunlance has the full burst. These moves aren't necessarily even the strongest for the weapon, but they're big and flashy and fun as hell when you pull them off. For example dragonpiercer is pretty much always a DPS loss on bow, but nobody can come here and tell me it doesn't feel amazing to charge up a full dragonpiercer and watch 50 numbers pop up as you fire that shit straight into Xeno's face during his enrage!
My heart crumbled a little when I saw you waste that spirit gauge with the iai spirit slash on girros. I remember my days as an LS main but I went back to my roots as a GS player Cause LS didn't exist in MHFU lol Now it's more like I'll grab it for comfy or I'll just use HBG because I get to ignore anything the monster does
The more I play CB, the more I learn about it and the more I fall in love with it. Brings a tear to my eye seeing it get such a resounding S tier. MHW being my first game, the CB was the one I had my eye on from the beginning and boy howdy has it ever given me so much in return and then some. Incredible weapon, incredible S-tier
Dont downplay the HBG. It's a no brainer that its the best weapon type in the game even with all the "nerfs" it's recieved over the years. Not only is it's damage uncontested it gives access to KO and wvery other status ailment and can also deal elemental damage. On top of that it can provide a bit of support by buffing teammates with demon and armor ammo. On top of that, not only can it equip a shield that makes fights trivial, but it can equip attachments that increase its dps or utility as well. Making it all-round the king of Monster Hunter. The LBG is close behind it as it can do everything the HBG can but has smaller clip sizes. However, it makes up for this by having rapid fire ammo which increases the ammo efficiency of every round substantially. With rapid fire elemental ammo they can easily decimate any monster in the game.
I switched from Switch axe to SnS with iceborne and it was eyeopening. Making 180 degree turns at any time + shotgun into perfect rush felt so powerfull. I also thought that getting safi agro most of the time confirmed my thesis about my dps output. Playing LS on my second playthrough now and while it is really fun. SnS felt more aggressive to play.
I find I have to be in the right mentality to play switch axe effectively, its a "I'm not locked in here with you, you're locked in here with me weapon" you basically have to commit to hyper aggression and perfect low movement dodges. The Switch axe is probably king of aggressive melee versatility, it has reach, speed, damage types, status types, burst and consistent dps etc. Any type of defensive thinking beyond setting up for the next hit before unloading your zero sum discharge, is more or less a mistake. You basically have to move and act like you are an apex monster even when you don't have the gear/weapon tier to back it up, because its just how the weapon is run. SnS has versatility in a different way, you can play it hyper aggressively but it really is more of an all arounder mixing versatile defensive and offensive options. A lot of people choose SnS on new monster encounters for this reason because you can take the time to learn the monsters move sets, pot, and set up traps without sheathing your weapon... and then use these advantages to win on the first go even against difficult monsters.
Assuming that by the best you mean the most effective weapons are for most players when played as intended (which is what weapon tier list is for me), as a mediocre speedrunner I have to disagree with a lot here: 1. The most glaring problem here is that you placed Bow as B tier while it's one of the best weapons in the game both for casual play (as it's basic flowchart is extremly easy and consists of literally 3 moves) and speedrunning. It's only downside is that it requires a good build to work properly but after fatalis, AT velkhana (and safi)making good builds for any weapon is fairly easy as long as you have all lvl 1-3 decos (level 4 decos are nice but you don't really need them for most builds to work). Bow is easily the 2nd best weapon (maybe 3rd because of the build problem) 2. As much as I love hunting horn and think that for casual play is very underrated and can compete with other melee weapons damage wise it's nowhere near S tier. It's buffs are nice for multiplayer but for solo they aren't strong enough to put HH above pretty much any other weapon than Lance or Gunlance. I think that it's multiplayer application put it in low A tier but S is way too high. 3. Light bowgun should be S tier, the only reason why people don't put it in S tier is because HBG is just so much better than every other weapon that it's easy to forget about LBG but it's still one of the best DPS weapons with high mobility and CC options. It does pretty much everything, with it's only problem being that it's too similar to HBG which as said before is broken beyond comparison. Also even though I agree with Gunlance placement for general playerbase but I think it's important to mention how broken gunlance really is when used for speedrunning. There is basically a glitch/expliot with gunlance wyrmstake where if you place a snowman on the ground where monster is and put wyrmstake inside both the monster and the snowman you deal an absurd amounts of damage. Sadly that strategy even though is as overpowered as it can get, HBG is still better against some monsters.
the only thing i gotta say imo is that the hh is most definitely a support weapon first, theres a reason why hh mains hated rise version of it while others liked it coz it focused on dps more
@@darthjarjarbinks2480 check the numbers. Most people got to know the franchise with world, even tho some were expecting the release, most just got into afterwards.
Lance is such an underrated and underappreciated weapon (And this is coming from someone who is first and foremost a CB main), the most satisfying thing about it is how it forces you to change your mindset from always running/dodging to standing your ground and being all up on that monsters face. You feel like an unstoppable force, constantly blocking and poking the monster to death. I think a really cool buff for Lance in MHWilds would be to allow you to taunt the monster into attacking you and then being able to respond with a powerful counterattack that has a chance of knocking the monster. It fits perfectly with the Lance's role as the Tank of the party and provide lance users a spotlight during the hunt.
Wyvernblast mod 2 is heavy slept on. So fun when you want to chill lbg gun run but also want to flex your knowledge of monster attack and punish by throwing a grenade that does damage based on the power of the attack
8:20 the singular worst part about not playing with clutch claw boost on longsword is that it just EATS through your sharpness like it's nothing since it multihits until you hit the ground. for larger monsters it's not unusual to go nearly to yellow sharpness if you want to tenderize larger monsters and no other player (with better weapon for it) does it for you. And since as LS you REALLY want weakness exploit someone gotta do it.
Tier list on both sides are fair and well done with minor changes that have valid points to them. Though in the end every weapon is good once mastered and seeing that none of them ended up bellow B tier means the developers work hard to make sure every weapon not only feels good to use but is also fun. On another note my baby SNS getting S and A makes me happy.
I use the hunting horn almost exclusively. I love it, it deals a lot of damage and I can always heal me and my allies plus it increases mobility and damage too it’s a great weapon. I have no idea why hunting horn players are probably the smallest population
Fun Fact: MHW HBG is the best DPS weapon in the game, beating Great Sword because of Spread, more specifically Fatalis "Vore Buster" combined with the armor, spread and pierce can shoot more than 10 times which is insane
Used to glaive main always. Was my jam, as fun as sending out the bug to bite these massive monsters, I’ve always wanted a glaive style weapon that uses something like the spirit gauge for power instead of the kinesect. It always bugs me to have the sick armor and then…. Big bug
I think we all have own tier list but without a doubt SnS Perfect Rush quite OP at certain point. I love CB and cant get away with it becoz i got used with Guard Point. I learn hard on monster behavior but im not at those super high lvl CB users who able to use Axe mode guard point at certain timing. Im just casual player with certain time to play and responsibilities.
All 14 weapons are good. It depends totally of the player. Sometimes monster, damage type, and objective. Being farming some materials isn't the same as speedrunning or even doing teamwork. There are some instance where one weapon can perform better
I'm GS user since the beginning.. I did use other weapons too but not that much (dual blade for furious rajang & alatreon)... I mean, I love big ass sword bcoz it looks cool 😂
Making players trip in multiplayer is an inherently terrible mechanic and needs to go - I am absolutely ready to die on this hill. I don’t care if you can slot in flinch free. Creating a mechanic like tripping other players is just fundamentally bad, because why implement something that naturally creates animosity against other players in a multiplayer focused PvE game? It just needs to go.
Even if they keep the tripping on some moves, they need to take the lesson they did from Risebreak and make the flinch-free the smallest deco so that it is at least easy to fit in; Worldborne having it as a 3 gem means that most people won't want to fit it in because of the large host of damage-focused gems that are better used instead. Rise was better with their gem being a 2 slot, and then Sunbreak went even further and gave us a postgame gem that was basically perfect flinch free (because too much flinch free actually make it that you can't hit other players out of stun, sleep, or paralysis), and made it a 1 slot to boot.

A con for elemental weapons that I feel is still important to mention because newer players may not know about it is that you "need" to make multiple sets of weapon which can be quite the grind sometime.
As is having to farcaster to camp and swap sets when grinding in the guiding lands
Defender gear is there to rush returning players through the base game. Its gonna be rough for you when the upgrades stop@@MysticGohan01
Glaive main here. It deserves S-tier purely because it’s hilarious watching a giant moth bite an elder dragon and knock it out of the sky.

My favorite mh moment was cutting off a black diablos’s tail off with a severing kinsect

"There is no bad MH weapon. Only used differently" Now that's a great quote and way to talk about each weapon without causing a flame war.
Very fun
Agree, On my first playthrough of MHW on Xbox a couple years ago I was main HBG and it was absolutely nuts with sticky!

amazing video for any new player.
Just happy Hunting Horn is even included on the list.
lmao Uno I was waiting for your reaction to this
I really need to start using the claw uppercut and the sword rush. I've been ignoring both due to locking you into movements, but now that I have learned the motion values and tenderizing facts about SNS for Iceborne I am going to learn.
As new player, I think it was really nice to see the community perspective on this, thank you

I had to right the wrongs of the past. My old one had some wack takes I think 🤣 Thank you though Yuri
swapped to Gunlance about 40~ hours of playtime ago... and you're absolutely right. it was a shitshow at first but now idk if i'll ever switch to something else.
GL is the only weapon where I feel like I NEED to run evade extender
Endgame bow builds outdps most weapons. The fact that you can constantly apply pressure and be agile while doing it makes it imo S tier
Here's a hot take, using a weapon how it should be used means every weapon is S tier. 🤷♂️
nope@@soulreaver6300
@@soulreaver6300 but from the raw and elemental DPS the bow is just better than other weapons
"Anime has shorter swords" *bleach has entered the chat*
Ichimaru Gin: "Shorter swords? Are you sure?"
the guy never heard of Berserk
I've been playing this game for almost a year (I was a late joiner) fighting fatalis, and I still hope between weapons all the time
Thank you for watching!! Always happy to hear someone likes listening to me haha
Infinite azure going in the background absolutely love it
It's too good a song man. Love VGM
Like longer animation locks (GS, Hammer, HBG, DB), low mobility (SA, GS, HBG), lacks reach (DB), much investment (HBG, LBG), usually lacks damage (LBG, Bow)
P.S. even LS and Lance have their drawbacks (lol SnS is king)

One melody set that I find pretty versatile solo or in a group is Attack Melody II:
Attack Up(L)
Health Recovery(S)
Recovery Speed(L)
Impact Echo Wave
Extended Health Recovery.
Love how this game is alive again right now I made a new character and already beat fatalis with 100 hours on that character
Insect Glaive main here. There were a few things that were not mentioned:
1.) If you mark the tail with a slash kinsect, you can chop it off without having to directly attack it yourself.
2.) If you mark the head with a blunt kinsect, you can consistently stun the monster, even out of the air.
3.) Repositioning while mounted does a slashing attack. No other weapon in the game does anything like this. You get much higher mount DPS if you constantly shift positions.
4.) Air Evade has I-Frames
5.) There is an infinite ground combo.
About switch axe! It actually has more mobility than you think
The side hop s while tight, allow for more precise control of your dodge and once you get used to it, becomes easier to attacks with than the regular roll (though evade window still recommended)
Secondly for pure mobility, look no further than rolling and then immediately using a morph attack. Especially from sword to axe, doing so will give you an additional lunge forward after the roll, covering a good amount of distance and being an amazing escape tool in a pinch
I used the return to world as a chance to finally finish learning the charge blade. Took like 100 hours but i dont regret it every time i land a savage axe transform block 😮
Next on the list is the hunting horn

You can stack the Echo 3 times, play all three then recite it.
Also Hunting Horn songs can give: Divine Blessing, Earplugs, Muck Buff ( Normal Walking speed in mud and snow ), Tremor Resist, Affinity Buff (10% then 20% ), Wind Resistance, Anomaly Resist (Resists Vaal Hazak Status, Sleep, Bracky's and Tero's Blast Blight etc), Blight Resist or Blight Null ( Shortens or Null: Thunder, Dragon, Fire ), Health Boost ( Heals the first time and increases Max HP to 200. ), Stamina Cost Reduction ( Mega Stamina Drink buff )
Thats the standard songs, not the songs that need to spin. ( Seen in video: Impact Echo Wave and Dragon Echo )
Impact Echo Wave gives extra KO Damage.
That thumbnail got me doing unholy things
I've always used HBG, LBG and SnS, but after playing around with Lance I finally found my main weap, it is super aggressive and dish out a lot of dmg, it does make you feel great going face to face against the monster and reacting to everything they throw at you.
I love the reference to GOOSE because of kulve torath armor pose...or maybe that pose is something else related, anyways great video
Kulver's 💰🍔
They should buff the hh by making the buffs stronger if there are less people.
fully agreed. It's just crazy to place it at s-tier
Very well made guild for any level of players

Huge fan of Iceborne HH! Easily my favorite weapon for Fatalis, group or solo play. Still my fastest Fatalis kill too.
As someone that started playing the game last month. The glaive instantly drew me in. Finished the game with it and now on to finishing Iceborn with it.
Longsword is more like an odachi, that's why
Pretty sure you had room for more levels of guard.
awww man it’s a bit of a bummer seeing lance so universally low
it’s my favorite counterpick weapon and world made it SO mobile with guard dashes (which blocks 360 degrees for some reason) and charges (which can TURN AROUND NOW). Lance rarely has a moment where it can’t block and counter and that makes for such an incredible experience counterpicking diablos or even rathian
Something I didn’t see get mentioned is how Lance can actually be a mounting god of a weapon, the charge attack has a jump variation that does mounting damage( ALSO benefitting from Airborne decorations) leading to situations where you can mount three times per hunt for your team’s damage.
Lance is also extremely easy to build, in my opinion all the generic damage buffs apply and the only game changing skills are guard, guard up and offensive guard.
Just writing for appreciation, I really love the list and everybody’s opinion
Very cool video, and the rating by weapons guys players is a good and funny idea^^ Thx^^
Finally someone mentioning that hunting horn is not support weapon.. note i am a Hunting Horn main
Gotta defend the Switch Axe. It has insane mobility you just gotta use the morph attack and backswing properly :D
MHW noob here just got into it purely bc i saw the insect glaive flips and said "whoa thats cool af" so now im glad to hear its not bad at all lol

I see you are a man of fine tastes.
Only the finest tastes 😌
Assuming that by the best you mean the most effective weapons are for most players when played as intended (which is what weapon tier list is for me), as a mediocre speedrunner I have to disagree with a lot here:
1. Bow is easily the 2nd best weapon (maybe 3rd because of the build problem)
Sadly that strategy even though is as overpowered as it can get, HBG is still better against some monsters.
the only thing i gotta say imo is that the hh is most definitely a support weapon first, theres a reason why hh mains hated rise version of it while others liked it coz it focused on dps more
A MHW video in 2024…… Heck yeah
Well everyone is actually playing this game again even more than mh rise xD
Monster Hunter World has never been more popular since.
@@guilhermecaiado5384it has been more on release tho it is more then when the final tittle update came
You under a rock? 😂
@@darthjarjarbinks2480 check the numbers. Most people got to know the franchise with world, even tho some were expecting the release, most just got into afterwards.
Was literally just figuring out a new weapon to try as a monster hunter journeyman, perfectly timed!
Hunting horn, my beloved!

Looking forward to the watch Video
As a lightbow gun main I like this video
HH helped me clear Kushala MR & HR solo, but hammer go bonk
Can you do a weapon teir list for elemental application soon, your teir lists are great.
