  • Hello lovelies, I am sharing with you some affordable vintage drugstore face creams you can still buy today. I know that a lot of the old Hollywood movie stars wore Erno Lazlo, but it is nice to know of some more affordable vintage alternatives that are still very effective. I use all of these vintage drugstore face creams regularly, and I find them to be just as good as some of the high-end face creams. Here is a list of my favorite vintage drugstore face creams you can still buy today.
    Neutrogena :
Neutrogena was founded in 1930 by Emanuel Stolaroff and was originally a cosmetics company named Natone. Soon, it grew into a larger business, and he started expanding it into retail markets. Stolaroff met Belgian chemist Edmond Fromont in 1954 and acquired the rights to distribute his patented formula of a mild clear soap that cleared the skin, without drying it, in the US. In 1962, the company name was changed to Neutrogena Corporation.
    Neutrogena deep moisture night cream:
    rstyle.me/+u0rog8vFTncmNULDJA...
This fast-absorbing, non-comedogenic cream formula, with Vitamin D3 and nourishing Glycerin, helps moisturize the skin while you sleep. Vitamin D3 is a superior moisturizer that helps balance skin moisture levels.
    Queen Helene:
Queen Helene® brand has been a leader in quality and beauty products for professional and personal use since 1930. Nature's finest ingredients inspire the products because they are safer and are more effective than harsh chemicals and unnecessary additives.
    Cocoa Butter Crème:
    rstyle.me/+N0rmxlGWVStbRasXHL...
This luxuriously rich, non-greasy crème blends cocoa butter and lanolin to quench and relieve moisture-starved skin. Protects from dryness caused by over-exposure; helps diminish the appearance of wrinkles.
    Olay:
Olay originated in South Africa as Oil of Olay. Graham Wulff (1916-2008), a former Unilever chemist, started it in 1952. He chose the name "Oil of Olay" as a spin on the word "lanolin," a key ingredient.
It was unique in the early days because it was a pink fluid rather than a cream, packaged in a heavy glass bottle. Wulff and his marketing partner, Jack Lowe, a former copywriter, had tested the product on their wives and friends and were confident in its uniqueness and quality.
    Olay Beauty Fluid:
    rstyle.me/+RLaW39W1pPe9ii49tZ...
Replenish skin with 48 hours of moisture with the original Pink Beauty Fluid, Olay’s Active Hydrating Moisturizing Lotion. Since 1952, this daily moisturizer has helped millions of women, all over the world, soothe dry skin with long-lasting hydration.
Olay Active Hydrating Cream Face Moisturizer:
    rstyle.me/+zmsFbKy04PAIUYbLSx...
Since 1952 the Olay Active Hydrating Cream Moisturizer has given women rich hydration with its soft petal pink color and feminine scent.
    Ponds:
Pond's was invented in the United States as a patent medicine by pharmacist Theron T. Pond in 1846. Mr. Pond extracted a healing tea from witch hazel. Which he discovered could heal small cuts and other ailments. The product was named "Golden Treasure." After Theron died, it would be known as "Pond's Extract. In 1914, the company was incorporated under the name Pond's Extract Company.
By the twentieth century, the company's primary emphasis was selling cosmetics products. The "Pond's Vanishing Cream" and the "Pond's Cold Cream" were created, marking the entrance of Pond's products into the facial care industry.
    Ponds Vanishing Cream:
    rstyle.me/+q-IWcox5ql0US7do3O...
    rstyle.me/+hiUxN6QEHKsvn7QF2i...
Pond's Dry Skin Cream is a face moisturizer that moisturizes deeply and helps prep skin for makeup application and used to be called Ponds Vanishing Cream. It goes hand in hand with the original Ponds cold cream and used to be sold as a set.
    Jergens:
Andrew Jergens, Sr founded Jergens Lotion in Cincinnati, Ohio, on April 5, 1882. The company was known as the Jergens Soap Company.
    Jergens Face Cream:
    rstyle.me/+uxcQZ_lmrT2rNL2-Wx...
Jergens All-Purpose Face Cream has been a classic since the 1950s and was used by Elizabeth Taylor. This is a multi-purpose face cream that also doubles as a moisturizer and cleansing cream.
    Avon:
Avon's founder, David H. McConnell, initially sold books as a door-to-door salesman to New York homes. In September 1886, he decided to sell perfumes rather than books. He started the new business in a small office at 126 Chambers Street, Manhattan, New York. McConnell changed the company name in 1892 when his business partner suggested he call it the "California Perfume Company."
Avon Rich Moisture Face Cream :
    rstyle.me/+_4gZ9mYWgGeuiUOjZ3...
This face cream has been around since the 1940s and possibly earlier. I wasn't able to find the exact date, but It is shown in my Avon catalogs from the 1940s. I love this cream because it is gentle on your skin and keeps it moisturized without breaking the bank.

Weleda - their Revitalizing Hair Tonic has been around since 1921, and their range of Iris face creams have been around for some time too but I'm not sure how long. I remember though buying their Iris soap in the early 90's, but they don't do that any more. The face creams are still available and absolutely great for dry skin.

I know. Some of best products tend to be cancelled out. I recall a red hair color from Clairol series Hydrience called Hibiscus. I have yet to find such an bright auburn that is in the perfect copper red tone like that one. Balsam is another series that has been cancelled. :( Every time I find the right hair color brand and series, it gets cancelled. The only one that hasn't is Manic Panic.

When I was a little girl (I'm 70 now) I would go with my father to the "drugstore" and was always drawn to the cosmetic section. I was always mystified by the 'oil of olay' in the pink box with the glass bottle and the lady on the box with her hands on either side of her face. Just couldn't wait till I could start using it. I had very oily skin as a teenager, now that I'm older I'm as dry as a desert...so girls..MOISTUIZE!!!!

When I was 14 my mother told me to cleanse and moisture every morning and night.
I danced ballet between the age of 7 until I was 25, so I drank ALOT of water.
I used Nivea and Oil of Olay.
Living in Sweden we didn't have ponds or neurogena.
      I still use Nivea.

I use Vitamin C oil during the day time to moisturize and as a repair cream I use hemorrhoid cream (lowers the puffiness around the eyes and tightens the forehead and jar-line, while protects the skin from losing moisture due to the petroleum sealing in). People always asked me what is my secret to looking 15 - 20 years younger and it is good eating, using vitamin C oil and hemorrhoid cream. Now if only I can control my uveitis I had developed over time.
I had a hair, face and body routine since the age of 11, which I have been perfecting over time. I'm 37 and it has done wonders. I have students who get amazed when I tell them my age and they tell me I look younger than their 20 year old parents. I tell young folks about the importance of using a good face oil to trap in moisture during the day and to use hemorrhoid cream at night, also drink lots of water and tea throughout the day. Also sleep, lots of sleep. The earlier the better so you look well rested.

So glad I found your channel. My granny used Ponds and Olay religiously from the time she was a teen in the 40s until she died last year. Even after she lost the ability to speak due to strokes, she'd rub her face and we knew she wanted her face cleaned with Ponds and her Olay rubbed in. She had extremely dry skin. She was 83 when she passed and only had slight wrinkles around her eyes.

I was born 1973. I miss my Grammy so much! In the 70’s early 80’s as a small child I would go through all her face care, and makeup things. She was a huge fan, of Oil of Olay. She used it religiously, and just before she passed away she still didn’t have one wrinkle! No kidding!!! I’m glad I inherited her skin, so blessed! I remember the Oil of Olay glass jar, it was my favorite stuff, it smelled amazing! I searched everywhere for that formula, but couldn’t seem to find it anywhere. It’s just not the same anymore. The one I remember was almost like water consistency, the ones now in the store are more like lotion, I’m kinda sad about that. I also remember the shampoo she used to love, and washed my hair with, it was called Body on Tap. Oh my goodness, what a great shampoo!!! Thank you Laura for your awesome channel! Absolutely reuse the old beautiful cosmetics containers! I would love to pick them up and feel the smoothness of the glass as I’m applying my face cream.

I love Ponds, I use it every night with a washcloth for makeup removal. It gets all the makeup and sunscreen off. They make an un-scented version now too.

Do it!! lol … I own and use Jergens Face Cream regularly and have used the other creams over the years. I bought a jar of Queen Helene's Mint Julep Masque probably 40 years ago. The masque dried to this almost plaster of Paris hardness and had to lean over the sink while pressing a wet washcloth to my face for it to come off. Gave it away after that.

I love that mask but use very rarely as my skin is more dry/combination and it is strooonng! It will pull any congestion like black heads right out of your skin. I dilute the paste with water and only leave it on half the recommended time.

      @iadorenewyork1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

I, too, used the Queen Helene’s mint julep mask as a teenager and young adult - same time frame as you - 40 or so years ago. The clay would harden, and you’d gave to moisten it to get it off. It worked well. I also used Oil of Olay back then. Thanks for the memories!

I actually just picked up some Pond's cold cream today, and I also love their Rejuveness, Crema S, and Clarant B3 moisturizing creams. Our local Big Lots has the small jars of all of these for $2, and they last me about a month. They're also a great trial or travel size!

    • @DaveGreg100
      @DaveGreg100 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

I like Ponds Rejuveness between Glycolic acid peels. It has a mild acid in it IIRC. Alpha hydroxy acid. Nice maintenance till the next week's acid treatment
That and the Clarant. Like I said above to Laura, I am working on a nice pallor [ seriously. I've avoided the sun for years now and want a look like Lugosi in Dracula or Twilight. I'm not even an Emo, I just like a pale look] with Clarant and Porcelana. I know: weird. But fun to make an attempt. Too olive skinned but I get great shaves, no pimples or clogged pores and no age spots.

Really great video. So informative and entertaining. I had no idea Neutrogena has been around for so long. I've been using their transparent glycerine soap for years plus their night cream, it never irratates my skin and so far have very few wrinkles for my age. I remember my grandmother using the Jergens line. I lived how it smelled. I feel like going and buying some now just for nostalgia sake. Thanks for the videos and rhe effort you put into them

I love Oil of Olay and always have a bottle around. If I couldn't afford anything else, I could be content to use it all the time. I love that it was invented the year I was born. I remember one of my elderly aunts always had Avon rich moisture on her dresser. Those original Avon creams were affordable. Today, they come out with more and more high tech expensive creams, but my aunt had lovely skin! Jergen's lotion and soap were household staples when I was a child.

Oh id love to see a video of you transferring to the vintage packaging! You’d be able to get use out of them and enjoy them more, too if you decide to do it. I remember my grandma would always say “ save for later” and her friends “for special occasions”. I use to be paralyzed by this mentality, until I read a short story called Everyday Use. Why buy something or keep it gathering dust if you don’t use it and enjoy it? Isn’t that what “knickknacks “ are for? Lol!
