    Excellent tutorial. I'm pondering buying a TW200. Had no clue the tires had tubes. Tnx for sharing 👍

    • @TDubsKid
      @TDubsKid  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      thanks! they are pretty fun bikes. yeah most all spoked rims use tubes because you can't seal the spokes off very well from leaking air. but there are a few new bikes that have spoked tubless tires but they are mostly for expensive newer bikes. spoked wheels can take a lot more abuse than allow wheels, that's why you see them on off road bikes. no problem, thanks for watching!

    Thanks for the vid! I'm partway through changing the tires on my TW, and need to go get some Windex tomorrow. Without lubricant, it's got me spouting some unkind words. I really appreciate your videos; thank you! I'm not far from you, in Boulder. Looking forward to springtime. :-)

      hey no problem, yeah lube helps a lot I bet there is better stuff than windex but it still works haha. I know how you feel, hey that's awesome, we have so many places to ride in our back yard, same here :)

    Good video...An old mountain bikers trick is to sprinkle baby powder (Cornstarch, not talc) on the tube before installation. It makes the tube slide in and around the tire easier and helps prevent pinch flats, and keeps the tube from "cold-welding" itself to the tire over time. You can also patch the old tube and keep it for a spare on those long rides away from civilization!

    Thanks for the great video. If your wheel was not out of balance before, Mark the tire and rim position, and you should not need to re-balance. If you did not remove any weights.

    Great video but I have to wonder why you didn't put in a tire plug from the inside of the tire? It helps prevent other nails from entering via the hole you left in the tire. Helps keep water out too. To each their own I guess.

    Hi TDubsKid , would you mind telling me the rim size of the TW? All I know is its 18in front and 14in rear but I can't seem to find any info on rim width. Planning on buying a xt600 and put wider tyres and lower the suspension.
    Special thanks for all your videos! I love watching them while driving my truck during the night (keeps my mind awake due to the interesting information and funny comments)
    Keep it up mate!

    Hey man how do you like that Shinko 244 on the front for on- road riding? Is it better than stock deathwing?

    • @TDubsKid
      @TDubsKid  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      yeah I don't mind it haven't had a problem with grip at all I just need to balance it, small rocks will sometime get stuck in between the knobs and shoot em out in the fender sometimes but not a big deal, it is slightly wider than the stock one so the steering seems a bit heavier but I got use to it quick. I have the 5.10 - 18 they also have a 4.60-18 which is slightly thinner than stock. they don't have the exact same size as stock since they use a different type of size units

    • @bwxmoto
      @bwxmoto 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      TDubsKid Cool thanks. I think I'm going to get the 5.10. They're nice and cheap so I can always get another size/ brand if I don't like it. I like the way it looks though!

    • @TDubsKid
      @TDubsKid  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      no problem! nice I like the 244 way better than stock, it's lasting way longer too. yeah it looks pretty gnarly compared to stock, a lot grippyer too

  • @geraldscott9446
    @geraldscott9446 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Easy enough at home, but how do you do it on the trail, way out in the middle of nowhere? I have a centerstand on my XT225 that I got from a guy on a forum I used to belong too that made them. But he no longer makes them.

    • @TDubsKid
      @TDubsKid  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah much harder in the middle of nowhere, you can use the kickstand and a tree to get either of the wheels off, or high center it on a log or rock. worst comes to worse you could lay it down

    • @kinghoffbeers4221

      Just patch the tube especially if you have balance beads in the tube. Carry co2 tire fill kit or compact hand pump or 12v compact electric pump

    • @TDubsKid
      @TDubsKid  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah a patch is a good way to get you home, I personally would put a new tube in once I get home though because patches can fail

    Stock front tire is deadly in the mud.

    • @TDubsKid

      yeah the low fender is really bad for lots of mud too. it can stop any tire from moving

    Just patch the hole. Especially if you already have balance beads in the tube.

    • @TDubsKid

      this was before I had balance beads, I usually just replace the tube just to be safe

    Use baby powder on the inner side of your tire and a little bit on the tube and you'll be able to move the tube in the tire freely without it getting caught up on anything

    Baby powder is worthless with wet lubricant, and you should never try to install or remove a tire without PLENTY of wet lubricant. I usually use Ru-Glyde, available at auto parts stores, but in an emergency, anything slippery will do. Windex, WD-40, vaseline, armorall, furniture polish, baby oil, motor oil, even soap and water if you have nothing else available. I tend to avoid soap and water, because most soap is not actually soap, it is detergent, and can be very corrosive when left inside a metal rim for a long time.
    Where did you get that huge bead breaker and those huge tire irons? I recently bought a TW, and while I have not had a flat yet, it will happen, or I will need a new tire.
    Before I got the TW, I had an XT. I discovered that most of the stock tubes were unpatchable, for 2 reasons. Most thin stock tubes pop like balloons when punctured, and even if they don't, before you realize you have a flat tire and get stopped, whatever punctured the tube has wiggled around in it and shredded the tube. I do carry a patch kit, as an absolute last resort, along with a bottle of Ride On, in case the patch doesn't seal properly. I was able to get 4mm thick tubes for the XT (4 times as thick as stock) and sometimes they can be patched.
    Again forget about the baby powder on motorcycle tubes. Bicycle tubes can usually be installed by hand, without tools or liquid lubricant. If there is any benefit to baby powder, it is lost when you soak the beads and rim with lots of wet lubricant to get the tire back on. I've had to use Windex sprayed on the tire beads to get them to seat properly when inflating the tire. Dry beads are just not slippery enough.

    • @TDubsKid
      @TDubsKid  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      hey thanks for the info! and I got them at harbor freight, yeah a patch kit most likely won't work but could I guess as long as it isn't ripped in half
