      If we fully recover some players (Spinazzola, Zaniolo, Sensi, Pellegrini) and a couple of promising young forwards grow as expected (Kane) we might be really competitive, even though it's unlikely we will have Chiellini

      @@teomarik Chiellini was already deemed "too old" even for this round of European Championship. And who's holding the cup now?
      I sincerely hope to see him in the team in Qatar. I'd love for that one to be his final tournament. But if that's not to be, then we need to find a suitable replacement. Chiellini saved the team many, many times, his absence is a difficult void to fill.

      @@undead9999 well I hope he can resist but at his age you never know, every small injury can be too much to handle. I am less scared by defenders because Bastoni has a lot of potential and other interesting prospects like Mancini. I mean, they are not Chiellini (experience in these tournaments counts) but I am more scard by the lack of decent forwards. Relying on Immobile or Belotti didn't really pay off, especially in toughest games.

      @@UKDarkPredator I'm not so certain that we've had a complete rebuild from top to bottom. From what I've seen, it's simply a case of us hiring a great coach and backroom staff, Mancini then giving more opportunities to our more gifted, technically players (Insigne and Jorginho for instance, who were mostly ignored by Ventura), having the bottle to give young players an opportunity and having some very good players coming through at once. We still have an awful long way to go when it comes to our infrastructure, developing young players and having the courage to play them - too many Serie A sides would still rather buy from abroad than trust the talents in their academies. We are in a very good place right now, but it's scary to think how much stronger we could be if we can fully exploit our youth sector and sort out our archaic facilities. I sincerely hope this weeks success will spur Italian football to build on this position of strength instead of resting on our laurels, like we did after 2006.

They won every single match without loses even though they had no star players like Spain, Portugal, France, England, Belgium, and Germany but they've manage to overcome the best team. Around 60% of Argentina and some from Brazil are basically Italians / have roots from Italy. Player like Jorginho, Messi, Di Maria and Maradona have roots from Italy. Messi's parents are Italian. But he is Argentinian because he was born there and countries like Argentina dont register the double nationality. Germany does that. For example: Kids that are born in Germany from Italians have both nationalities in Germany. They are German and also Italian. But to be honest we people just look at the blood. And with that: Messi is Italian, just his passport says Argentinian. Now imagine all of them would have played in Italy where they belong. Italy produced the best football players in history.

    • @majukun
      @majukun 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      i think sarri's style is more vertical and to be frank , more of my liking. i don't particularly like mancini's italy because they try to make tiki taka but without the superior technical skills needed, which means that their build up is extremely slow and struggles to find any verticality outside of open counters..making them predictable (against england they were not that dangerous and managed to score only on a set piece)
      also, mancini doesn't seem to have any counter for when the opponent manages to steal control of the midfield from them...

    • @EdwardElfigo
      @EdwardElfigo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      @@majukun what are you on about? Italy plays a much more vertical style of play than Spain does.
      The sole reason they didn’t dominate possession against Spain is that Dani Olmo was playing as a false 9, discombobulating Italy’s whole pressing system.
      Italy had 70% of the ball against Belgium prior to Spinazzola’s injury, and around 70% against England as well.
      You’re saying they didn’t look like a threat against England, yet they had 19 shots and 6 on target, you’re talking as if breaking down a team playing like England, which is basically a Burnley or Atletico Madrid style of play is easy, how many goals did Spain score against Sweden again?

    • @majukun
      @majukun 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@EdwardElfigo Spain is much better ay do thta kind of tiki taka because they are more technically adapt to it and because they historically have use it more. Italy is much more slow and imprecise with their build up.
      Never said that scoring against a team closed like England is supposed to be easy, but still, it's even harder when your build up is so slow that you are always gonna try to pierce them with most of the team behind the ball.
      In the final pretty much only the two chances from chiesa were actually dangerous (and that one off target from Berardi with the volley that might have been offside), they were absolutely in control but it would have not been strange if they didn't manage to score at all with how slow and predictable they were

    • @vinlondon8904
      @vinlondon8904 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@majukun the slow build up is because verratti likes to open up play in cautious manner just like busquet is.
      Italy plays almost like sarriball but they don't have the players sarri had. Sarri had better attacking players than mancini has. It took him two to three years to make his style understood by players.
      I would say italy's intention is to play like sarri upfront once the players are there, but at the moment it's almost like a hybrid tiki taka, sarri and Juventus pragmatism at play.
      Sarri's defence always use to struggle against teams like juventus but mancini's defence its stronger according to stats.
      In the next world cup, zaniolo, pelegrini dhe kean will be available, therefore more options available.

      @@cristopher7019 Brazil and Argentina have some great talents, but neither nation has produced great teams for over a decade now. The last great Argentina side I saw was back in 2006, and Brazil 2002. Italy, Spain and England, right now, are far more cohesive units.France, Belgium, Germany, Portugal and Holland will also be a threat because of the individual talents that they possess. I will be very surprised if the World Cup doesn't return to Europe once again next year. These Euros really has shown just how strong how continent is right now, with the likes of Denmark, Austria, Switzerland, Czech Rep, all being extremely well organized, tough to beat and not being short of individual quality. In short, we have a higher number of quality teams.

    Mancini really exposed the weakness of Ventura, and perhaps the weakness of the coaching crucible that is Serie A - Serie A can be a great proving ground for coaches as it’s succeed or die; however, often cowardice can be rewarded. Ventura coached minnows and treated the talent laden National team like a small club with too much humility. Mancini has experience with top talent from coaching stops at Inter and Manchester, and was willing to be brave enough to force other teams to play his game consistently.
    PS “Catenaccio” is an outdated and specific term that refers to something that hasn’t existed for decades, kind of like the term “Center Half”. Nowadays the term “counterattack” would be correct to describe the strategy Italy has used but instead you are purposefully using a term that would elicit a negative feeling. Of these two terms which would you use to describe England’s play this summer? Would you try the hyperbolic Catenaccio like you did for the Italians? Or perhaps the more accurate Counterattack? I think we know why it wouldn’t be the negative version.

      @nazgul_of_angmar3983 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would like to see Zaniolo try as falso nueve but Mancini stated that Zaniolo isn't meant to play as striker. He argued, surprisingly, that he prefers to play Zaniolo as one of the 3 midflelders (4-3-3 interno di centrocampo), since with his accelerations he can run at the defense. Still, I think he will ultimately play him as a forward on the right side. It remains to be seen how stable his knees are. Crossing fingers he stays fit. Behind Donnarumma he is the greatest talent we have ATM.
      Fyi, so far he has played Zaniolo both as a winger in place of Chiesa/Berardi and also in midfield in place of Barella/Verratti.

    Can you please profile the South African team Mamelodi Sundowns and the Egyptian team AL Ahly. Maybe add TP Mazembe and Wydad Casablanca. They are playing some beautiful football

    They need a no. 9. Kean should replace Immobile. And they need to groom the next generation of center backs, giving them more exposure. Also bring in Tonali and Zaniolo.

      Yes... True... Shortly after the finale i immediately thought that this team with Kean instead of Immobile would be truly stellar.
