Ronaldinho lacked discipline but had superb skills, as always with most of brazilian players. Here in Brazil, club management is more like a political thing and it destroys everything. No player has the support it needs to become worldclass. He needed it for better mentality. It's a good theme for a video, btw: politics and football, presidents vs CEOs.

You know bro people just have their own way of looking at life. If you read the player's tribune article about Ronaldinho, you can see why he was like that.
He always wanted to be happy. And in my opinion, if somebody could instill the hunger and seriousness in him, then it would have done more harm than good.
It could be that he would be bogged down by the thought of winning and would no longer be willing or be able to perform like he did. Maybe we should just thank his carefree attitude, which gave him confidence, joy and willingness to play football and us the miracles to watch as a result.
Now this type of psychological phenomenon was also once the focal point of discussion when the people in England were wondering whether or not to start a football league.
So, I think that we should rather be thankful to his attitude than critical.

@TheWeeaboo ronaldinho I think never gave his life for football. That's just the thing. Ronaldinho was just pure fun. And that will be his legacy. Ok yes it was a short stay at the top, but to say messi outperformed ronaldinho, is either caring about completely different things when watching football, or you never seen ronaldinho in his prime playing 90 minute matches for a season. This man electrified me like messi never did. This man didnt just won games for Barca, he put on a circus show while doing it. Ok he didnt score 50 goals, but the sheer fun reflected on the team and the fans, and was the (re)start of barcelona as most kids know it today.
Also, dont forget ronaldinho had a huge part to play in the start of messi's career in barcelona, arguably the most important moment of any player. So that also is part of his legacy.
The special thing, and never shown before, thing about Ronaldo and messi is that they are performing at that outer world class for 15 years. And that is a very special talent in itself.
Last but not least, I prefer midfielders over attackers. For me zidane and ronaldinho. The xavi iniesta combination, where the best I have seen. Then comes Brazilian ronaldo, messi and portugese Ronaldo. Then a shitton of amazing players that deserve mentioning. But looking back, these are my favorites.
He had a great career. He won everything without compromising on anything. He is a definition of living life to the fullest. Smiling assassin was and will remain one of a kind.🤙🤙

Every video I've ever seen about Ronaldinho undermines his spell in South America, where he went to lead the best match in the History of the Brazilian League while at Flamengo (a 5-4 match against Neymar's Santos), and almost singlehandedly won Atlético Mineiro their first ever Libertadores (South American Champions League).
With 20% of his talent he certainly did an impact in Brazil, a place where the fans always felt he could have done more for (since he left at such a young age).
Footballers like Ronaldinho are artists, expressing who they are when they play. If he had a different mentality, he wouldn't have been the player we all got to experience.
We all know he could have been even greater but we should just appreciate the genius, however short his time at the top was.

However, Messi is more talented, more efficient, and is a refined, more complete, and more intelligent version of a peak Diego Maradona. @@desporto6559 Libertadores are way more competitive/balanced than Europa League for example and Brazilian league its more competitive than France league, Italy league nowadays(old Italy its incomparable) and Portugal league. Its never the same teams to be in top 4, almost every year are different teams who finish in top 4. Flamengo played very well and managed to play even better than Liverpool in some moments of the match, if wasn't for Jorge's bad choices in substituitions, it could gone differently.. Real Madrid in 2017 had a discret result against Grêmio.. So, its clear that some south american clubs are getting expressive and Libertadores and Brasileirão are very competitive, it was indeed very significant for Ronaldinho's or any player's career to won it in the age he was, leading the team as he leaded.. Although for lots(many of them!) of reasons, mostly terrible administrative one's in the south american tournaments and clubs, the European leagues are far ahead. Still, some things we can not miss or ignore in south american football..

GREAT video. I think losing Frank Rijkard and that freedom he had took a lot of the joy from Ronaldinho, and without that joy he lost his desire for the game. He played for the beauty and purity of the game and had little use for micro managers like Pep who he saw as a painting contractor trying to teach Michaelangelo how to paint the Sistine Chapel.
You miss a very important part of his career: He won the Copa Libertadores with Atlético Mineiro. He had some extraordinary performances in 2012-13. By the way, he is the only player in the entire world to win best player of the year/Ballon d’Or, World Cup, Champions League and Copa Libertadores. If you did not mention that may be only because of your lack of knowledge.

He reinvented himself in 2012 and 2013 with Atlético Mineiro. He almost won the Brazilian league (a title that Atlético haven't won since 1971) and won 3 titles, including the first Libertadores in club history, being elected the best player and part of the team of the tournament in almost all of those competitions. Of course he wasn't the same player of the Barcelona times, but failing to mention this performance in a video that talks about his career because it wasn't in Europe is just disrespectful.

My mind does not ponder, when i look at football today Iam grateful for every time i watch Ronaldinho played. If you like something you will want it to last forever which is unrealistic when he had the chance he did his best and mentored and inspired and celebrated that's his beauty. Your last lines were simply poetic and filled with the same nostalgia as that of the ending scenes of The Hobbit: Battle of the five armies. Ronaldinho just lacked the discipline of Messi or CR7 but as a talent he is from another planet altogether.
Even though Messi may be better and Ronaldo more potent, Ronaldinho's game was beautiful. It can be said magical. The way he touched the ball, his movements, passing was so mesmerizing..
It comes as a package, his spontaneity and joy of life is the reason why he was such an entertaining player to watch, but its also the reason why he was skipping practice to go party. We can't criticize one attribute knowing that it shares the same root with another attribute that we love.

He did lead atlético mineiro to a libertadores title, which is no small thing... At Flamengo he was kind of alone in a team that wasn't getting paid.
Ronaldinho played football in a way that was just that most could not even imagine. He epitomized the beautiful game. It wasn't just about a trick or a skill. It was actual functional , creative ability that excited the whole world.

I actually watched Ronaldinho play in Brazil for Atletico Mineiro in 2012 : he was a heavier and much slower player, yet there were moments of pure magic as when Ronaldinho made the assist for the winning goal.
The crowd was ecstatic by his mere presence on the pitch, and while at Atletico in 2012 and 2013, Ronaldinho's presence had a contagious effect with the performances of all the other players elevated to levels not before seen in their careers.
Then in 2014, the same old story ...... Ronaldinho way less committed to training session among rumors of hard partying and poor performances during matches.
Actually 2013 was the last magical act from one of football greatest magicians.

This man is the reason why I busted both my ankles when I was playing football way back in the early 2000's. I tried to emulate everything he did.

With all the discipline in the world, he wouldn't be the icon he is today if he played without joy. The JOY brought out the beast in him. It's also clear he wasn't obsessed with success... that's why he'd lose a game and still smile lol...and no manager can take that...cuz they all wanna win...they all wanna be in control. Prolly why I still feel the move to less demanding leagues was the best for him...cuz that suited the lifestyle he wanted to live. Play the game he loves, and have time for himself too. & I respect him a lot for being bold enough to make that choice, cuz as we all know, the WORLD, really wanted him to be a slave to the game.

I think you guys never saw Ronaldinho playing for Atletico Mineiro, after his release from Flamengo. He played great, was a leader in assists and became South America's best player in 2013, when he won the Copa Libertadores for the Roosters.
You forget Ronaldinho won Copa Libertadores with Atlético Mineiro in 2013. This is an important milestone in his career. Football is way more than what happens in Europe.

Ronaldinho always looked like he was just playing with his friends at the park and wanted to have fun, it's clear he doesn't have anywhere near the drive that someone like CR7 does but he never needed it to be the best of his generation. How many people are willing to sacrifice every waking moment of their lives in pursuit of there goals? It's sad to see that statisticians may one day not really understand what made him so special just looking at the numbers, he's not an efficient well-oiled machine like Mohammed Salah or so many other modern players. He was just a chill guy with god-given talent, more an entertainer than grafter.
From "joga bonito" to "take it to the next level" and "make the difference" there was a long philosophical jump in the game which improved it's seriety and discipline from the spirit to the last particle in the leading players of the world of football from Nike's leading brand in nearly all of it..., and he didn't like it...
For a matter of fact it didn't low the "joga bonito" for the sudden increase of speed and strength in all of the gradually increasing 'warrior' nature of the beautiful game..., it improved it...; and in a way slower ideal which he attached himself to..., he fell on his own feet...
His entire system went down... And it never got back up...
We all might go through these kind of personal existential crisis..., but at the end of the road we realise the fact that what doesn't kill you make you stronger as what doesn't craze you make you wiser... Only..., if you do not give up...

For most people creative talent comes with some form of eccentricity, lack of discipline or doing things in unconventional ways. For mortals this behaviour is baffling and makes us wonder and start saying if only he did this or he did that he would have accomplished more. Perhaps, for him it was never to be the best or accomplish more. He did what he enjoyed in life, and also did the same in football as he did in life. If you love football then what he did with football is pure magic. The magic of his football will live on for future generations to enjoy or even emulate.

The question about if Ronaldinho could have been better if he worked hard like Ronaldo is moot. This man played football like nobody before or after him, he played like a kid in a playground, always had a smile on his face, he was never controversial and he made hundreds of millions love the game because of the joy he brought. That's not something Ronaldo (obsessed with trophies, awards & stats) or Messi (pure alien, unrealistic talent) could achieve. Being more "serious" and putting in work would have robbed us of his effortless charm & class. Which is why no one is like him, he made it look so easy and beautiful WITHOUT the effort. The man was simply the happiest man in the world anytime the ball is at his feet, just give him the ball and watch him do magic.
Ronaldinho didn't care much about stats and achievement, all he wanted was to play the beautiful game, which he did. And he doesn't regret nothing at all.

He was the reason I started to turn me away from dinho 's tragedy Ronaldo has changed his playstyle alot but it was only made after some horrible injuries like muscle tear and knees problems.

Actually the best Brazil team was the 2005 confer cup team w/Roni. He played great that cup w/ Adriano and Robinho, Cicinho Juninho too. The ybeat Germany and Argentina (4-1) and were absolutely fantastic. Has 06 Brazil been brave and used the defenders and most of the confed team they may have gone to the final in 06.
