Italy have had a fantastic start to their Euro 2020 Campaign, Picking up two consective 3-0 wins against Turkey and Switzerland, meaning they are the first to qualify for the knock-out stages of the tournament.
The Azzurri have looked extremely well-drilled, and is a testament to how far Head Coach Roberto Mancini has taken them since their absence from the 2018 World Cup. In today's video, we're going to be taking a look at what makes italy so dangerous, and why they could potentially go all the way to the final.

My superstitious side is unhappy about how well Italy has started lol. The stereotype is that Italy only wins when we start badly and improve during the tournament. That said, in Euro 2000 Italy was unbeaten until the final, losing because France scored in the 94th minute and then the golden goal. 😢 Here’s hoping for a happier ending! Forza Azzurri!

In World Cup 2006, we concede only 2 goals - 1 in Group Stage (own goal) & 1 in Final (penalty). Like you said, in a big tournament Italy is a always slow starter, this is the only time (to my knowledge) Italy started really strong from Day 1. From the moment they annouced Mancini as the manager, I was so thrilled, I do think he could be the one to get us up again; he proved more than what I expect of him (I do expect of him highly) & that too with the kind of players he got (comparing with those really top players we used to have). Even in this Euro, we lost Pelligrini, Sensi, Zaniolo - to name a few. Forza Azzurri

glad to read this. It is the same in every country I think. How often have we seen teams killing their group and then falling in the knockout stage. Italy has a good tradition though. If they fuck up, then they usually go out in the group stage but if they go further than group stage they usually get far so I see them in the semis at least.

Italy ARE a favourite. My worry is that having too good a start has sometimes been their Achilles heel. They start flying high, and crash to the ground at the slightest bit of adversity. But with Mancini at the helm, they look more clinical then ever. The talent is undoubtedly there. If calm, composed, confidence prevails, then welcome back ITALIA, Euro Champions!

And even then they could’ve scored 2 or 3 in the first half. This is only the group stage. Ask yourself this, how many point would Italy have right now if they were in that group? As an Italian I am pleased that someone seeing Italy from the outside has this confidence in its strength, but superstitiously I would have preferred a lower profile and less consensus, especially here in Italy.
Historically the two last world championships won, '82 and '06, had been preceded by fierce problems and criticisms (in 1982 even the team had entered into a media blackout, a measure certainly not caused by foreign journalists but by Italian ones).
Apart from the superstition, the external pressures had strengthened the group, they had managed to isolate themselves and concentrate and in addition they had given them that "wickedness" and that desire for redemption which then led to great results.
The other perplexity is that the other "custom" was not playing well, at least not so much, in the qualifying round and then growing in the second phase, I hope that the current Italy still has room for improvement, as the current level may not be sufficient, in addition to the memory of the many teams that in the past championships had made havoc in the first games but then fell miserably in the games that counted.
Obviously my hope is that mine are all unfounded fears and that this year Italy can reach the fifth world cup.

It was almost like a 3-3-4 vs Turkey + Switzerland with the left full-back so high up! But Spinazzola has so much pace he gets up + down that left wing constantly. It was like a 2-3-5 at times in the Welsh box yesterday! They're relentless going forward + press + harass intensely as soon as the ball is lost. They always have a spare man. Barelĺa, Insigne + Bernardeshi have almost been in a free role + get all over the pitch. I don't think they're favourites. Not making the last World Cup seems to be serving as more of an inspiration for them rather than a hindrance. But I'd prefer them to stay under the radar so they can keep playing like this without too much hype + expectation. It's almost unique for a national side to play with such a togetherness. The way they swarm all over you like Bee's, have technical + tactical brilliance, is a great, combined effort + is very good to watch!

Folks said Italy didn't play against solid team- I just watched Switzerland send France home. The only other team to date that could compete with Italy's play so far was France.

Pleasant match to watch for a (relatively 😉) neutral watcher for sure. Both teams had their moments. Ultimately not illogical that it came to extra time (although there was that penalty error on Christante at 79:20), and ultimately not illogical that it went to penalties.
As far as I'm concerned, the winner is well-deserved.

Be carful what you say, Italy are still not challenged, Turkey,Wales, Switzerland even Austria is not a real challenge, once they beat the likes of France, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, England then we can label them back, but so far they have played well, wether they are good or other teams they met were weak, time will tell.

I think the reason italy failed was because, even though they did exceptionally well at the Euros, the actual team wasn't great. But during the Euros there was just a certain energy around them that made them outperform. as soon as that was over I think the individual quality of the players started to emerge and with no real immediate objective, it meant they were really poor in the group stages.

I really don't know. We are collecting a lot of compliments and appreciations from all sides about our new attacking attitude and refusal of "catenaccio".On one side I'd say this appreciation is very nice even if maybe a bit overzealous. Getting 4 world cup and 1 EC with just catenaccio gives us too much "credit", it would be a real miracle.
On the other side I'm a bit old school: I'd gladly let all the fanciness, compliments and "juego bonito" to the Dutches or the Brazilians, and 'd prefer an Italian team as the dwarf Gimli wants his kin: fully armed and filthy😁. A real knockout beast, not the elegant master of our poule.
No joy to watch probably, but who cares? The aim of competition is to win, And, if no political issues are involved (as in Argentina 1978), the best team ALWAYS wins.
Mancini's way is probably the right way, the modern way. Problem is that just now we aren't fully armed nor filthy,
But we are fancy. And get compliments. Even from Dutches and Brazilians.
