Renata Scotto sings "O mio babbino caro" from Gianni Schicchi composed by Giacomo Puccini Czech Symphony Orchestra Armando Krieger - conductor at The Roman Amphitheatre of Siracuse
Few artists ever that the deep intelligence of singing as she had. Still a lesson in spite of the diminished instrument. I'm bowing to you Signora Scotto ! :)
Beautiful - such sensitive phrasing and expression. Take away the pressure of heavy dramatic singing required in Gioconda, Lady Macbeth and Abigaille and what you find is the real vocal marvel that is Renata Scotto revealed here in Lauretta's aria. A jewel!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MIA CARA MAESTRA!!!:) I was so incredible lucky to make my Lady Macbeth with this amazing Singer, real Diva and unique person. Grazie di tutto mia cara Maestra!
Maybe it is not perfect...but how i feel what she wants to transmit!!!this is the art of the opera, she is one of the greatest singers of the past century. Brava Renata!
She makes you forget her faults - top notes not as they once were, but she never forces. The semaphore gestures look painfully old fashioned, but she transcends all this with her musicality and phrasing. She was a great artist and sang with true emotion.
THIS DIVA IS ALIVE,, IS THE LAST DIVA LIVE I PICK FLY THIS DAYS TO VISIT THEM is the last chance for all my friends.... never will be pavarottis, callas, scotto, gobbis , keith emerson, jacksons, last chance scotto is alive
Eh? Screeching? Are you sure it's not your sound system or wi-fi connection? 😂 Ok sound quality on this 'old ' video is far from HD & she does sound a little top heavy in the mix ( I can see the VU meters hitting the red on some notes ) which I suspect is the reason why it sounds a wee bit 'whack ' in one or two places.
@@philipcondenzio5987 who could ever do that? Callas is not questionable, but only to praise because there will never be another Maria Callas. She s called "la Divina". I've just say it all. Stop!!!
@@philipcondenzio5987 I perfectly got your message. I apologize with you for I was sure we were commenting under a Maria Callas's video. Anyhow this lady is really great too.
You can hear the decline in her voice here. I understand why they accused her of "screeching" and there's that excessive vibrato that got worse towards the end of her career. By the time, she performed her final Butterfly at The Met, it was excruciating. She had good instincts though.
You didn't mention her Norma, Francesca di Rimini, Manon or her Musetta at the Met. I saw these and was impressed at how effective she was, even with a diminished voice.
Gossip has it that Scotto got so much play at the Met because she befriended James Levine and helped him out of a legal bind by lending him some money. Don't know, if that is true. She also came at the right time: there was a shortage of A list divas at the time and she fit the bill. She had good instincts but her voice was not in a class with Sutherland and Pavorotti, who were the reigning stars of the opera circuit at the time.
I have a very different recollection of their Gioconda. For me, Pavorotti excelled in the sheer beauty of his effortless voice. Scotto on the other hand was all histrionics and a lot of vibrato. She made no attempt to connect with anyone on that stage, it was all Scotto and even got pissed at Pavorotti for taking solo curtain calls.
That all might be true, but there was a documentary film made about that production and while Scotto might have been pissed at Pavorotti's not knowing the entire role, she must MORE pissed at his taking so many solo curtain calls. You should try to see if the documentary is on TH-cam. It's really a good film.

Her voice is so warm and lyrical. A beautiful interpretation!

We will never forget Renate's absolutely powerfully enchanting voice - it will forever be heard across the Cosmos.....

Brava Renata! What a beautiful, heartfelt interpretation!
Beautiful x
Only in this light aria , I seem to truly appreciate this soprano who somehow I never found exciting above others in other pieces.

scotto the best ever.complete operas no one better.
R.i.P. Renata you will never forget ❤
Perhaps not technically perfect at this time in her life but the tonal richness and emotion are wonderful.
This beautiful lady is amazing
splendid! 👏👏👏👍
Fabulosa Voz do Bel Canto, a última Diva!

Its SO MAGICAL!!!
ecco qui già meglio come esecuzione :-) brava renata!
The best Liu, Suor Angelica and Madama Butterfly ever. Ms. Scotto always had the BEST and most expressive LONG lines.
Grande interpretação.

She looks like a tiny beautiful lady singing so angelic!

toi toi...
Why is it that aging sopranos on the brink of vocal death turn to this girlish aria?
✌✌✌
Renata tebaldi y maria callas the best soprano the wold more better o mio bambino caro

Is she a spinto soprano? 0:20 Holy shit, that volume output.
I think so!
Is a drammaric coloratura soprano

Starts sweet enough but then gradually declines until she is screeching. Now go and listen to Callas.

Callas for ever
With all due respect to Madame Callas, we are not here to discuss or listen to her rendition of this aria.

La Divina she is! There’s no question about it. That wasn’t my point. I’m sorry you didn’t understand the message.

cant hear middle notes she no rosa ponselle
uhhh
I agree with you but what callas gave to singing and performing nobody else did.
The beauty of her voice is some kind of divine

Her breathing is just terrible! But she is a beautiful lady!
In her prime I'm pretty sure her technique was solid, but I agree with you, terrible breath. Nevertheless, she still has that glorious tone.
Arthur Diggs I don't disagree at all.
She is old there ~ That is not about skills
give us a break and go to lissten to her wobble. and her awful top notes-
Ghastly
Mis Piggyface a diva?
Dreadful. No amount of interpretation can make such a destroyed voice pleasant to listen to.
Very bad singing....awful...
