Personally, her continuous hard work to perfect everything she did (and still does)should surely be the first of the Worlds Great Wonders. Beautiful voice, beautiful mastery too. Thank the Lord for youtube and our ability to access such wonders.

I am not experienced enough to comment on that performance . I mean by that the technical excellence. I can say however, as a novice, that, late in life, I have found music and and a performances that defies description. If there exists a superlative greater than "Brilliant" then it would be applied to what I have just watched. I understand now how one can be moved by excellence . Astounding.

Islam has nothing on record companies Media moguls, impresarios and western education policies that are reluctant to teach classical music in schools they way it was done after WWII. Opera became relatively popular in the 90’s with The Three Tenors phenomenon but now Eurovision and the Xfactor type shows have diluted the power serious music and turned it into a circus act. Remember the arabs gave the west oboes, rebecs. Viols. Cymbals etc which eventually became the core of modern orchestras. The answer is to make opera and classical music accessible to ordinary people not the elites.

Two of the most beautiful voices ever, Pavarotti and Freni, were both born in Modena and both in 1935... almost unbelievable!
They grew up together, had the same wet nurse and were best friends all their lives.
It was Mirella who encouraged Luciano to also take singing lessons.
Their teacher did something RIGHT.
Their mothers were working together in the same cigarettes factory.
