No matter who sings this aria, I’m transported to Japan and into Cio-Cio-San’s tender heart. The heartfelt and simple lyrics always pierce my heart, and I vicariously feel her pain. ❤
My most favorite Butterfly ever! She's living it like no one else, what a precious document of how she must have sung it in full staged performances in the 60s and 70s!
WOW!!! That was BRILLIANT! She was In=Character from the first note, and didn't hold anything back. God bless people of such talent that share it with the world. Same thing I am trying to do in my painting, teaching, and living.
Amen😢
Magnificent singer. Such Grace and elegance when she takes her bow. The greatest Butterfly . She left the world to soon. Renata and Beverly, two great divas on the same stage.
That’s true about all great artists. Their gifts were so great that, even if they lived until 150, it would be “too soon” when they eventually died. It’s a pity, but at least we have these memories preserved in digital form to always enjoy!!!
She always wanted and did put all of her vocal skills in the service of bringing us into the soul of the characters she brought to us. Thank you Renata. Rest in peace and glory with our Lord.
When I see her tiny frame vibrating full force to express what she needs to convey, I understand why she cut her career short in her last years. Who cares? Vissi d'arte. Better to sing like that for 20 years than hold back and be mediocre for 40 years, like many others. God bless you Renata. A magnificent artist and a very generous one. May you rest in peace.
¡Sublime!
Absofreakinglutely the Best Version of Un bel di I have ever seen/heard!!!! I love how she understands and uses the text to color, and dynamically sculpt her phrases!!! SOOOO many singers ignore the nuances of the text. The lush, large quality of the bottom notes is *almost* orgasmic!!!! She's at the point where she's lost a bunch of weight, looks great, and it hasn't taken its toll on her voice!!!! Would that we could see her do 20 different roles at this point!!!! Her Lucia is Splendid, as is her Gioconda-and everything in-between before she took on too much vocal weight and career stress Her Mimi on the first Live Ftom the Met in Feb 1977 is a Hallmark of Beauty and Passion!!!! Her 2 arias are Extrafreakinordinary Outrageous !!! BRAVA!!!
A wonderful. beautiful performance by an artist with an incomparable voice and technique. Her taste in dress is also superb, beautiful and elegant, unlike the glitz that many sopranos seem to fall victim to. Bravissima!
Che artista commovente. Non so quante altre sono o siano state capaci di far vivere un personaggio in modo così vibrante nel corso di un recital. Senza costumi o messinscena.
I was very fortunate to experience this fantastic singer as Gilda in Verona in 1966.. she sang terrificly alongside Cappuccilli and Aragall !! Rest in peace !! I will never forget you !!
She sang very well here. I heard her in Norma in Jones Hall many years ago, and her voice was scarcely audible, the vibrato had become tremolo. Butterfly suits her so much better. Requiescat in pace, bella donna!
Simply magical, not a well known as her "rival" Callas, sad to see she has departed this life! (but she lived a long life full of well deserved adoration) 😄
It's incredible how important the director is for the orchestra, and how responsive the orchestra is to the direction! Just notice how, during the happy birthday song, the musicians waited for the director to kiss Renata, and then continued only when the director wanted, without losing their cohesion or ruining the melody.
I'm floored at how amazing she is at depicting the emotions and character. I heard of her because of Robin Follman, one of her very successful students who was world renowned and starred in over 50 operas herself. I can see her in Robin Follman's way of being completely immersedninnthe character.
Absolutely perfect!! Renata Scotto remains THE Butterfly for me! Her interpretation of this aria is without parallel. Most sopranos sing this as a dark, severely serious, almost dirge-like aria. But the text is anything but that - as Renata so spectacularly conveys. Butterfly is hopeful - she is happily anticipating Pinkerton's return. And she's even mad at Suzuki who is fearful. Butterfly is convinced with "sicura fede" that Pinkerton is coming back to her. She has the whole scene of how he will greet her set up in her mind. She's going to wait patiently, no matter how long it takes. In this vision of hers, for his return, she is exultant!! This makes the reality of what happens in the second act even more gripping, heart-breaking and tragic.
I saw her as Norma at the met in 1980 (?) Some italian in standing room next to me shouted insults at her in italian and was dragged from the theatre, The next day the review called her 'Renate Screecho'. But I was an out-of-towner and thought it was all just fabulous !
I love her dynamics- she floats pianissimos at the end of phrases with superlative breath control and then is fully engaged in the full voiced portions. Brilliant interpretation; not as good as Tebaldi, but still one of the best
No matter who sings this aria, I’m transported to Japan and into Cio-Cio-San’s tender heart. The heartfelt and simple lyrics always pierce my heart, and I vicariously feel her pain. ❤

Even in the mid 80s when I experienced her Butterfly it was quite beautiful.
Ying Huang's rendition was magnificent, too.
I can't even imagine how exciting it would've been
WOW!!! That was BRILLIANT! She was In=Character from the first note, and didn't hold anything back. God bless people of such talent that share it with the world. Same thing I am trying to do in my painting, teaching, and living.

Davvero....💐❤💯👷♀
Today I read that Renata died at 89 years. I never heard of her but…..what a voice. RIP Renata
Omg! Ughhhhh! May she Rest In Peace 🙏🏽💛🙏🏽
the youtube Ai algorithm doesn't miss a beat.
She was Callas rival and for good reason
@@joannlove3414 it was Renata Tebaldi, not Renata Scotto
Non aver mai sentito parlare ðella Scotto??
Incredibile, perché è stata una grande soprano
I believed every word she sang. Superb Renata !!!

Bravaaaaaa. Oh good heavens what a beautiful voice. Perfect interpretation. RIP darling Renata. Charm heavens with your angelic voice.❤❤
Absolutely phenomenal interpretation! The phrasing, the freedom, declamation, the character!

Un'interpretazione sconvolgente!Renata Scotto arriva dritta al cuore.Un'artista immensa

Vero, elegantissima
Discreet and gorgeous at the same time
Very clear, clean, effective delivery of motion and feelings. Gorgeously presented.

Tutto questo è vero ! Grazie !
Ottimo commento.
Yes, I just saw that she died last month. I'm glad we have these recordings. She had a very beautiful and melodic voice.
So Beautiful and full of Emotion! Thank You!
How is it possible for such beauty and genius to end. Heartbroken. RIP.
Perfetta. Bravaaaaa
She is amazing each time I listen to this I am speechless and hold my breath..... What a beautiful voice....

Una voce che entra nell'anima!!!
Thank you for uploading
Hopefully it will inspire the next generation of great singers.
It's such a privilege to watch such a talent
She sang very well here. I heard her in Norma in Jones Hall many years ago, and her voice was scarcely audible, the vibrato had become tremolo. Butterfly suits her so much better. Requiescat in pace, bella donna!
Simply magical, not a well known as her "rival" Callas, sad to see she has departed this life! (but she lived a long life full of well deserved adoration) 😄
I love how sincerely touched she was at everyone singing Happy Birthday to her that she cried!
Maravillosa performance.
What a powerful voice and amazing singer - loved every sound and orchestra wonderful.........Her voice is truly Cosmic......
It's incredible how important the director is for the orchestra, and how responsive the orchestra is to the direction!
Just notice how, during the happy birthday song, the musicians waited for the director to kiss Renata, and then continued only when the director wanted, without losing their cohesion or ruining the melody.
Absolutely wonderfully sung and interrupted with such emotions. How to bring the house down.
This is the exact broadcast performance that made me fall in love with this aria and with Maestra Scotto many years ago.
I'm floored at how amazing she is at depicting the emotions and character. I heard of her because of Robin Follman, one of her very successful students who was world renowned and starred in over 50 operas herself.
I can see her in Robin Follman's way of being completely immersedninnthe character.
WOW! Breathtaking. such a huge voice, from this awesome petite lady. BRAVA
That was Absolutely Magickal ! What a Great Performer ! She does not just sing the part, She LIVES the part !
The technique is no longer competently taught. Modern teaching sucks.
Gorgeous. If I recall correctly, she gave an evening Butterfly broadcast on Christmas of 1965.
RIP Renata.
I felt every note of this! Amazing!❤

Che un'artista! Joyful anticipation, with moments of doubt and pain--I've never understood the character so well as in this performance.,

L'ho sentita cantare dal vivo a New York tante volte
I saw her as Norma at the met in 1980 (?) Some italian in standing room next to me shouted insults at her in italian and was dragged from the theatre, The next day the review called her 'Renate Screecho'. But I was an out-of-towner and thought it was all just fabulous !

Nice inro from "Bubbles Silverman".....Of whom I have the grand pleasure of seeing and hearing her many a time.
Did Bubbles have a big voice? I never heard her live but a friend told me her voice was on the small side
In questo triste giorno, ti saluto ascoltandoti❤️
So much emotion.
Grazie per l'abilità! Arco e regno dei cieli, grande!
Excelente interpretación y DRAMATIZACION
Grandísima soprano y artista . D.E.P. Renata Scotto .

Beautifully performed by a beautiful lady, thank you Renata for the pleasure you have given throughout your long career.
Bravo what a voice superb.
Saluti
Straordinaria!!!
Beautifully done!!
Sublime!!!!❤
Definitive! What a performance!
Una lezione di tecnica, musicalità, stile, fraseggio
Buen viaje, Renata
Artistry, and beauty.
I used to be a little confused by the voice of Scotto.................Not anymore! Brava~!
Grande cantante e grande interprete
Divina.... ❤️
Oh, Renata take my heart from my chest.
Saw her as Manon Lescaut inn Houston, 1981. First time I'd seen an opera singer who could act.
