Darling Sweetpea Waits Patiently For Rescue Off A Barbed Wire Fence

You don't earn a name like Sweetpea for nothing and this little Black flying-fox has completely won over Bec's heart after she rescued her off a barbed wire fence yesterday afternoon.
If not for a couple of concerned members of the public, Sweetpea's outcome could have been completely different.
A huge thank you to those who cared and I really don't have a lot to say to the other humans who walked past Sweetpea whilst she was trapped on that fence for an extended period of time.
Sweetpea will remain in care for many months to allow her wing membrane to heal but I'm confident that she will be released back to the wild.
Any bat by itself through the day is in trouble. Please don't touch but call your local wildlife rescue organisation as a matter of priority.

I don't live in Oz so I've never been lucky enough to see these bats live, but I'm always absolutely BOGGLED by how they seem to know you are helping them, and that there's no need for panic! Trusting beasties indeed. You are doing AMAZING work! ❤❤❤

Hi gals! From my perspective, I find it so surreal that you have these beauties flying around your area. We only have the small, brown bats. Every once in a while, they end up in my garden. Mostly because they fly into things as they chase down bugs. Anyway, thank you so much for sharing these videos and taking the time to help these beautiful creatures. Enjoy your day!

I can say unequivocally in the United States many people walk by people in distress to avoid any involvement including requesting use of cell phone, much less a struggling animal in need of assistance even calling a wildlife rescue. I learn so much from these videos. The fact that surprises so many I speak with is that bats cannot fly off the ground and why. The bat on the ground or trapped may well not be from sickness, although never make any attempt to handle, and offer what protection is possible, I repeatedly list the two local wildlife rescues. You are disseminating critical information and education.

Most of the bat channel followers know what to do if they see a distressed bat but do you advertise extensively in the localities.
They get no government funding and struggle to fund the immediate needs of the bats in care. FB and YT ARE the advertising.
Hi and although we would love to, we receive no government funding. Volunteers donate their time attending community events etc to try and get the good word out about all wildlife. 🦇
If you were to ever organize a fundraiser, even just one to your viewers, I would surely donate! I'm in the states but I know it can be done, and I'd wager your home viewership would too! I volunteer for animals too, I know how it can be. Fund-raising for even some signage maybe? Either way thank you for your dedication to these little angels
Barbed wire should be outlawed everywhere. Nasty, cruel stuff. I suspect many people are afraid of bats & dont know their beneficial role in nature. Thank goodness smart people knew what to do to help this little darling. And I love that you give all your rescues names as is suitable. They are after all individual personalities!
