Well said!
When I was stationed on Schofield, we were told not to go to Waianae at night because the locals didn't like the military. I went there a few times in the daytime, and the locals were cool with me because I was cool with them. But that is the whole island. Like you said, if you give respect, you will get respect. I love going back to O'ahu to vacation.
I love Oahu too, thanks for sharing your own experience - maybe they didn't like military because some military personnel were not respectful towards them?
Waianae is the last part of the island that is truly locals. They are protective. There's not much over there anyways.
@WanderlustWellman That could be the reason. It's sad to say, but everywhere that the US Military goes, some of the people in it think that the locals need to conform to them when actually we should just learn the ways of that culture. I had a lot of fun being in HI, and I think that's why I enjoy going back so much.
@naten555 There may not be much over there, but there are some cool people over there. It only takes for one person over there to take you in, and you are good. I had no issues over there back then, day or night, and I'm talking late 90s early 00s.
I am vegan too. So nice to have someone recommend a vegan restaurant. Great video full of infos and good vibes.
That's great, I'm delighted to hear you're also vegan! Also, thanks so much for your kind words about my video :)
@@WanderlustWellmanI am from San Francisco Bay Area. Have you ever tried to dine at Shizen restaurant? It's also a vegan sushi restaurant. Anyway, very much looking forward to trying Tane Vegan Izakaya restaurant during my stay in Oahu.
Yes I have been to Shizen. I am also from the Bay Area. So I did go to Vegan Izaka restaurant in Oahu and I found it to be a notch above Shizen. The restaurant is more spacious and there are some different options.
cool
Enjoyed this so much...as I will be headed to Oahu for my first time soon! I have subscribed! 🌺(cannot wait to try Tane Vegan Izakaya - I'm a vegetarian but love all things vegan too!)
So happy to hear that you enjoyed the video and thank you for the subscription! I hope you have a great trip, I love Oahu so much. And because you are vegetarian, you might be interested in checking out my vegan oahu food guide video. Have a great trip!! :)
@@WanderlustWellman Oooooh thank you so much for your kind words - I will totally check out your vegan Oahu food guide video! Thank You!!!
great video lost me at vegan haha
Well I do appreciate that you liked the video, but I still encourage that you try one meal at that restaurant and you can tell me if that restaurant lost you as well! Haha
Thank you for being vegan! 💚 loved everything you shared and it was delivered!
No problem, I do it for the animals and they shouldn’t have to thank me 😁 thanks so much, I actually made a vegan Oahu video that you might be interested in checking out!
Thanks for your recommendations. How long does it take to kayak to the Mokes?
Thank you so much! And I think it took us 1 - 1.5 hours
I want to go back hime there to be with my people and my ancient homeland
Question on transportation options: Rent care VS Public transportation (Taxi, bus, etc)
Especially for visiting places like Lanai beach, what would be your recommendation?
Less emphasis on $$$, but I'm curious on how much more convenient rent cars would be regarding parking situation etc.
Would using public transportation be limiting to visit or experience certain places?
Great question! If money isn’t a big consideration, I 100% recommend renting a car. Taxis/ubers are going to be very expensive to get around the island anyway, so you might as well have complete freedom to explore with a car. Some locations might have more limited parking (Lanikai Beach), but you can still find space if you’re patient (or park at Kailua and walk over).
You can certainly get by with public transportation, but it will take quite a while to get to certain parts of the island (north shore, west side).
@@WanderlustWellman Thank you for the quick reply. Rental it is :)
Great videos btw!
@@jw.y3315 thanks a lot!
Tane is quite good, even if vegan sushi seems like a questionable idea.
Glad you agree!
hi Wellman - do you have recommendations of other vegan restaurants to try out in Oahu?
Hello justsomeotherfoggy - I actually made an entire video dedicated to all my vegan food recommendations for Oahu. Check it out if you're interested :)
@@WanderlustWellman awesome, I'll check that out!
Extra like for vegan recommendation. Could you please share where did you stay?
Glad you appreciated it! I actually made a vegan guide to Oahu, so check that out if you're interested. I stayed in the Island Colony Hotel in Waikiki
We have been to Oahu several times and Lanakai wasn’t our favourite beach. Would rather go to Kailua or Waimanalo Beach. We certainly didn’t find it great snorkeling. Very cloudy. Way better beaches in Oahu
Appreciate your opinion! I'm kicking myself that I never visited Waimanalo Beach, because I drove past it many times and everyone says really good things about it. I do like smaller beaches though, and I can confidently state the snorkeling by Lanikai is much better than Kailua. But that's just from my own experience :)
Any sharks in Lanai beach? Kayaking to the 2 islands?😅
I sure hope not, I've never seen one!
Great video. Vegan 😭 yikes sorry for your loss.
Very happy to hear that you liked the video - personally, I feel more sorry for the animals who are killed for our taste pleasure. I have been able to travel the world as a vegan and eat some unbelievable food, so I don't feel like it's a loss:)
Sorry, but I completely disagree about Lanikai. Kailua and Waimanalo beaches are way better and more beautiful 🏝️
No worries, appreciate your opinion! I’ve actually never been to Waimanalo Beach sadly, but it looks beautiful when i drive past it!
@@WanderlustWellman You will love it 🙂
Love is love
Yup, Waimanalo is much better, parking us terrible at Lanikai and it's totally exposed, no trees near the beach for shade.
Oahu ,Hawaii is my Ancestral Homeland . The people there are my Ohana for those that understand the hawaiian Language
Is it absolutely mandatory to say Hawaii every time after Oahu?
Absolutely not! Haha but it does have a nice ring to it
Ia chichangonan angde rena chanchienga.
As soon as he said açaí bowls are better the. The poke. I stopped watching the video.
No worries, to each their own - maybe non vegan poke is on a whole other level to vegan poke. But at least you took the time to comment :)
You had to make it vegan … thumbs down from me
Hawaii would be so beautilful without the Caucasian colonization
Racist much?
I got stung at kailua 🪼going back soon though !!
Were you swimming when you got stung?
