There’s a reason about 90% of videos about moving to Hawai’i are by realtors… they want the commission. I would suggest anyone considering moving to Hawai’i should get the “truth” from someone who isn’t incentivized by a commission.
What would you advise a young couple that wish to benefit from the inflow of 6 mo leases on the market, to move temporarily to explore the nature bounty of the islands and do some work in the service industry meantime?
@@liliavicol9433 I’m not sure we have an inflow of 6 month leases on the market, generally speaking our leases are by the year in my experience… maybe you could find that on Airbnb… but be warned, locals here (& really a lot of places that have a lot of tourism traffic) are really trying to put a stop to Airbnbs. I don’t know what kinds of service jobs you’re referring to, or what island(s) you intend to visit, that would be the determining factor honestly, because some islands are cheaper than others… those islands also tend to not have as many jobs as the other islands. I’m not really clear on what you’re asking, but if you’re asking if I think that’s doable… depending on the job(s) you get, IF it were possible, money would be very tight I don’t imagine you would have a lot of time to explore, with how much work you’ll be having to do just to pay rent. Most locals here work multiple jobs just to barely scrape by OR live with family members and split the bills.
Or use points and miles if possible with tools like AwardTool or PointsYeah. For cash fares, I like Google Flights, which has an extension called PointsPath to see some award redemptions.
Please Sir I need your precious opinion: I am 31 from Italy, In 2 years I will have 3 degrees, currently speak fluently 5 languages while I have studied 8 and I work as firmware developer in a French multinational company. Do you think I have a chance within the next two years to land a job in the tech sector in Hawaii? The 5 languages I speak: Italian, English, French, German, Chinese. Plus I have knowledge of Japanese, Spanish and Russian. The 3 degrees: Languages and cultures, Robotics, Applied artificial intelligence. The tech degrees have been undertaken under the stricter requirements of an international university in Germany.
@@livinginhonolulu Thank you Sir! Well the best thing for me would be to work maybe a day or 2 remote but for the rest I want and I need a company to work in. Are there tech opportunities in Hawaii?
Not many tech jobs, no. And the few tech jobs there are will already be filled. Hawai’i has a lot of people who have to work multiple jobs to barely get by, so there’s not many jobs here. Hawai’i is also known for low paying jobs. The languages you mentioned won’t be of much of any help in job seeking, aside from Chinese, which may be a small help, but not much. Most of our international tourists (which is the sector languages would be helpful in) are not from China, they’re mostly from Japan. So if you are very fluent in Japanese, that would be helpful, but it’s a competitive market and a lot of people speak Japanese fluently here (we also have a lot of Japanese people who live here & I know from personal experience that companies will hire Asians in the tourism sector above other ethnicities because they feel people from Japan are more comfortable with them). You should also be aware that tourism doesn’t pay well at all, unless you’re in management maybe, but even then you’ll have to do that full time AND get other part time jobs, to afford living here. Just a note: it was determined recently that a single person with no children needs to earn $112,000 USD a year to comfortably get by in Hawai’i… you can’t earn that in tech and definitely not in the tourism industry. If you can earn that working remotely, then you could afford to live here, but I’ll be honest, you won’t be able to earn that easily here, you’d have to work multiple jobs just to get by, and what’s the point of living here if all you do is work and sleep and never get to enjoy living here? Note: most people here earn between $35,000 - $67,000 a USD a year (because there’s not much jobs and the jobs there are don’t pay much). The only way we can get by is by living with our families and splitting the costs. For someone who doesn’t have a family, you will have a very hard time affording living here. I would suggest you consider Thailand, Vietnam or the Philippines where the languages you mentioned would be more helpful in getting a job. Those countries have a high demand for people who can speak European languages because most of their tourists are from Europe and America.
