    First time here and i am confused, so Rene is eating 1100 cal today? 11k steps? training session? so she burned 1100 for that and she is her entire BMR in deficit? like what 1500-1800cal? what am I missing here?

    • @johnjewett7970
      @johnjewett7970  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Not missing anything, she was just on 1400kcal this pull to 1100kcal was only for last few days. This is the level of deficit needed to pull last bit off. Calculations are there but we have to program off the response and adaptations through out prep. 2 days after the video she is hitting a 1500kcal high carb day just FYI. Thanks for watching!

    Why powderize the oats? Digestion, just mixes with the whey and other ingredients better, or some other reason? Love the content.

    • @johnjewett7970
      @johnjewett7970  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question, it likely digests faster than whole oats maybe not by much. But creating more a flour we get more of an actual rise effect when mixing the “batter” together. So main thing it’s for the texture and consistency it creates.

    Hey John,
    at the end of the video you said you like carbs pre bad because it makes you sleep better what is because carbs influence the tryptophan release. But what are your thoughts about some people avpid carbs pre bed because it can reduce the release of GH during the night/sleep? Or do you think, what woud make sense, in contest prep situation sleep quality is more important? How would you handle that in offseason? Leave the carbs there away in pre bed meal to havr potential more GH release during sleep?
    Thx a lot! Keep going! Learned a lot so far!

    • @johnjewett7970
      @johnjewett7970  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Benni excellent question and insight on your end. So, we do have research showing huge calorie intakes prior to sleep can blunt the GH response, these intakes are really large. I think we have to put a lot in context and looks at big picture. Sleep quality is upmost importance, so if you are waking due to hunger, common in prep with low glycogen levels and cortisol levels higher causing wakefulness then poor recovery will happen and fatigue from that is much more impactful to muscle retention and fat loss than the GH spike. Also, we have to ask how important is that GH spike and it doesn't seem to be that huge a player for at least muscle building. In natural bodybuilders in prep we also see a decline in natural IGF-1 levels likely from just poor sleep as well. Now, in enhanced bodybuilding we inject GH which means we won't be producing GH on our own anyway, so its just not a concern, this is complete transparency for you. But yes, a small amount of complex carbs prior to bed can aid sleep but likely will have a small impact on the GH/IGF-1 axis. Also I think you have to weigh in if you trained in the evening or might be a early morning trainer that night time carb amount might aide glycogen repleshisment and recovery more so then avoiding the carbs.

    • @benniu6182
      @benniu6182 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@johnjewett7970 Awesome answer John. Thank you so much, makes complete sense. So overall, thinking about this, i guess the benefits of carbs pre bed might be greater than the possible negative effects of decrease in GH release. Appreciate it!

    • @johnjewett7970
      @johnjewett7970  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hunger is higher so I want meat based option. Digestion kinetics and nutrient timing in the context of a full day of eating has not shown much significant effects. Acute studies do! But when you equate for meal over lap and total protein intake we just don’t see the difference. So preference and adherence come first.

    • @johnjewett7970
      @johnjewett7970  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@puyamoayer8214 yeah certain veggies are more gas forming. You can look up High FODMAP vegetables and this is good list of more gas forming ones. We stick to spinach and green beans as they are less bloating. However if you add a bunch of fiber in the diet at once you will likely get gassy at first but adapt. This is why I say just add 3-4g of fiber per day and wait a week before adding in more.
