@@cosodesign8953 but just bc it might not “feel” like it to the one that was groomed, doesn’t mean that’s not what it was. I mean a lot of people don’t even realize they were groomed until years later even. Reminds me of the “baby groupies” during the 70s, they were 12-15 y old girls who (to this day) feel like they weren’t groomed by rock bands when obviously they were SA’d by grown men. Tbh, I think it’s a part of denial bc these ppl still hold admiration for the one in power. Tana says how her and Shane still talk, so in some way she still has that soft spot for him that probably holds her back from seeing how weird the picture really is

The thing also about Shane is that he would make apologies, later talk about how they were insincere, continue to make harmful "jokes" and then continue this cycle. He still doesn't really believe he did anything wrong because if he did, he would make an actual apology owning up to everything and not make himself the victim

I thinks it’s because tana has gone through more serious (yes this is serious but a friends death ( as I dealt with a friends suicide & the aftermath is still felt today. - I wouldn’t think a internet creep is that serious. Also drug use, & all the partying people do will still numb you some what even if you are sober. - I think she sees it like meh because the internet is her job but not reality to her 24/7. Also she was never close to Shane & once she saw she could do it without him ; she was over him. It was a fan meeting their idol & I feel she is just confused because maybe she wonders how she would be if she never watched his cringy videos. ) I didn’t & I can assure you I’m so happy because he is so weird to me in how he portrays a lot of his life, friends & how he treats when rylan I think is so rude. He’s a fat guy gone skinny dbag who uses his dirty ness as a im relatable crutch. Peeing in water bottles when you live in a mansion? Its sick. He’s weird.

I am VERY tired of people making excuses for Shane's sick behavior, but looking at things from Tana's perspective I think this conversation was fair. It's honestly hard for us to know how she really thinks or feels since she may just be trying to avoid drama, but it is sad if she just thinks that that one infamous video can be rationalized. And, who knows... Maybe she had actually confronted Shane about it in private, though it doesn't seem that way. Also, yeah, her comment about Shane and Jenna makes sense since they are both from the same era of YT, but they VERY different people.

As someone who is the same age as Shane was in that video with Tana, I cannot see any rationale that would make doing something like that with someone who is 18 appropriate. I cannot imagine having a friend my age doing something like that and thinking it was acceptable, even. Especially with the power imbalance that you talked about. I think Shane was very aware that he had power and influence over others, especially aspiring creators. Shane is a creep. End of story.

I remember watching the Tana-Shane video referred to at the time and being REALLY weirded out but dismissing it as Tana and Shane’s “humour”. I should have known far better, I was 21, not an underaged girl. I still hadn’t really pieced together exactly how gross and exploitative he had been on TH-cam and as a person generally. I was amongst the legions of little fans who in a way was kind of very indirectly distantly groomed by Shane to accept his disgusting behaviour as “dark humour” as a child. I was in my early-mid teens in the late 2000s-early 2010s and still hadn’t really put two-and-two together yet until Shane was cancelled finally in 2020. I noticed several troubling signs along the way, such as his claiming in about 2015 in one of his several apologies that he didn’t know what minstrel shows were until adulthood, which I found very bizarre with his being a grown man from California. Anyway, I do hope Tana is doing well considering how he used her.

Here's the thing as much as i believe in gr*oming I also wanna respect Tana as a grown woman who looks back on that time in her life and after years of seeing what people on social media have been saying, she made her own informed decision of what she thinks of her relationship with shane. She's only speaking from her own experience rather than speaking for everyone and i think that needs to be respected.

Feel like Tana has sorta grown a lot, she has better ppl around her and is able to think before she acts. Ofc she still has her Tana moments but def not as bad as before.
Tana is VERY eloquently spoken in this podcast interview, it's giving less of Tanas chaotic energy and more of a cohesive feel & mature vibe to her. Even when she's making light hearted jokes, it actually seems like the "relationship" really messed with her. And she's now able to reflect back on that without word vomiting or side tracking.

Tana is being realistic about it. Controversy was all the rage, Shane is outlandish and likes to be the centre of attention. The two things combined catastrophically but this was the era where Eminem was writing music about murdering his daughter's Mum, Matt Lucas & David Walliams were doing blackface on Little Britain which was watced in every UK household. Being non-PC was being non-PC. It was a comedic choice to push boundaries and not a reason to then be chastised forever. Back then if you didn't wanna hear/see/listen to it you just didn't. Now people go digging and hold people up as though they made those choices in this climate. Like it or not, times have changed. The people who moved with the times then are trying to adjust things to move with the times now. That's all you can really ask of them. Outrage and offence is a choice, too.

By no means do I support Shane or like him at all but she is just talking about her experience and I don’t think we should look for trauma that isn’t there (Kinda weird behavior as not a professional therapist, or someone who knows the whole scope of the situation ) And I honestly felt what she said, I’ve known many 30+ year olds with beautiful souls that definitely don’t act their age and say mildly inappropriate things sometimes… because they’re adults! I’m 21 and have moved around a lot and have had many amazing experiences to meet amazing people. Not comparing Shane to them AT ALL but I can see that it really didn’t effect Tana as much as we all thought and that’s okay. Shane is still disgusting tho

There's a part of me that wonders if Tana's own trauma isn't making her want to excuse Shane's behavior. For all of her flaws, she's still been betrayed or otherwise abandoned in some way by people close to her (like her parents), but like Adam said -- Shane basically rescued her career and livelihood. She probably feels like she owes him in a sense and can't fully allow herself to either process or at least speak about how inappropriate and predatory he has been even to her. She's still taking responsibility for his behavior ("our sense of humor was so fucked up"/"i liked the fucked up jokes" etc) as if she shares the blame in what he did and said when she was just a teenager and he was a full grown man.

I think it’s unfair to round up Shane’s age to say he was 30 but continue to say Tana was 18. I think everyone matures at different ages. As a 32 year old, I can confidently say that I didn’t feel “mature” until I was 28.
I think for Shane, he got caught up in seeing those numbers grow as he did more and more wild things. It was acceptable back then, and I think it’s unfair to say that’s who someone is today. Similar to Jenna. She called herself out for similar behavior before the quit TH-cam. If Shane is showing change, then that’s all that matters.

i think later on in the video tana is more adamant about shane’s actions being inexcusable. I don’t necessarily think she trying to smooth things over for shane, by talking about her experience. We need to just take her experience and feelings at face value, and they may change as the time pases. I don’t think she’s trying to prove to us that the content she did with shane should be encourage. I think she’s even trying to rationalize it for herself. There’s such a deep interpersonal relationship between her and shane, from him being her idol, mentor, friend, and coworker. I also think tana has had to grow up so fast, basically becoming an adult at 15 and going through lots of hardship that any “trauma” she did experience from shane doesn’t compare, thus she can’t even be that upset at him.

adam i kinda disagree when you said that tana, shane, and ethan have been accused of the same things. The extent of shane’s racism goes so much deeper, from blaccents, black face, stereotyping, and so much more. I don’t think tana and ethan’s offenses were as rooted, and seem more like mistake, instead of shane.

All the videos I've watched about Shane and everyone that's spoken on him. I don't think his a bad guy, nor do I think his predatory. I just honestly think TH-cam humour was different back then and you shouldn't be judging on that because it was how things were. I just think that Shane's very inappropriate "/

  • @charliekuski5986

I'm 25 and I honestly could never see myself doing anything like that with an 18 y/o. I don't even like being around people younger than 21 let alone around them in "sexual" or "edgy" situations. I have friends who are 18-21 in age but I always have them in the appropriate situations that they should be in. I know when I have to take responsibility for others due to a maturity standpoint.
Shane knew what he was doing with someone who could finally be messed with because of the person turning legal.
    Legal doesn't mean mature.
    Legal doesn't mean equal.
    Legal doesn't mean responsible.
    Legal doesn't mean consent.
Shane knows. Shane didn't care. Shane got what he wanted.

And if that was new info it totally seemed like she was trying to change the narrative for Shane. That statement didn't sit right with me.

I have to disagree for once. Tana was 18. She got on Shane and laughed til she peed and he said he could feel it. You find that terrifying? What the heck? She was a legal adult, who cares what she does? She could have been doing a lot worse at that age.

@@dragoncup9099 no, but that doesn’t mean it’s predatory. I just think there’s a lot worse things going on in the world than a stupid joke like this. I think people are just acting like it’s terrible just to have something to act appalled over. It’s not that serious.

  • @brownbear1995

You gotta think, whiles it’s not an excuse obviously, she grew up very fast. She probably felt 18 at 14 or near to. Hanging out with older people is normal by then, the dr*gs she was doing and crazy nights out were normal already. She can’t rationalize this situation because she really can’t with her own.

I was 22 when the video came out. At the time, I didn’t think much of it. I never thought about how much older shane was than the people he usually surrounded himself with. I had watched him since I was…12/13. Never really understood how it could be wrong. Now at 28…well really around 25/26 I started to shift my opinions. His casual bullying of friends and the perverted shit just clicked. He hasn’t changed a bit but they’ll always be other underage people who just don’t get it yet. He lives off of kids who don’t know better.

First of all, cause she is pretty. They are allowed to compliment her, its actually kind and sweet to me. Secondly, aside from her being Ethans wife and a host, so they are going to compliment her, people who beef with Ethan ALWAYS insult her looks. It partly to me almost like reassuring her that thats not true, she is very pretty, and just them trying to offend Ethan.
