    I think you gotta take Tana’s words here with understanding that she had a traumatic upbringing. all this stuff of her saying Shane saved her life can be an ingrained trauma response to abu$ers/abus$e and having an innate need to protect them from ridicule or harm. It’s her life and her perspective but I still think she has some growing and healing to do.

    • @nancyelizabeth2325
      @nancyelizabeth2325 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Agreed. Although, growing and healing never stops, especially if you have deep trauma scars. She’ll be 40 still figuring it all out.

    • @JunkieSama

      Definitely agree. Tana seems to be growing and maturing. That doesn't fully excuse her past problematic behavior, but I do have more respect for her now. And it seems clear she still has a long way to go, but wish her all the best in her healing.

    Tana saying Shane saved her is such a trauma response. She’s not exactly my favorite person, but with her sad backstory, Shane probably took advantage of that. I genuinely hope that as Tana gets older, she gets wiser and puts Shane on full blast for what he did to her.

    • @debsahappyfrog1

      I don’t think it’s fair to say that’s a trauma response and speak on her behalf. She’s talking in reference to her younger self and I think she’s sound enough to tell the difference

    Obviously many of us are holding this view where we want her to look into it more and we feel worried that she doesn't see how bad this was, but if she personally does not feel victimized and isn't traumatized by this then that is a sigh of relief for me and yknow I think we should be understanding of that. It is her experience and her body, not ours. We can only hope that she genuinely feels okay towards what happened and that she's doing well.

    • @StarryNightxx
      @StarryNightxx ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @4_5k3l3T0n_0f_Fun if she personally doesn't feel victimized by what went on, there's no reason to project that onto her. She was an adult at the time and if she feels those are good memories then we shouldn't tell her how she feels about her own life is incorrect. I am sorry for your experience and thank you for sharing.

    I think something we all need to remember in this conversation is that Tana has been through a lot of trauma especially before getting on TH-cam she’s dropped little bits of her childhood and early teens over the years and the picture it paints is pretty fucking grim so I can understand how someone like Tana can see what Shane did to her as minor, as something she can gloss over especially when it’s from the person who took her from this really bad situation to being rich and famous like she literally sees him as someone who saved her life multiple times it’s a classic trauma response and honestly it makes me feel Shane was even more sinister in his exploitation of Tana bc he took this young girl who has been through all this stuff desperate to get out and hero worships him who is gonna view the stuff he does as not so bad in comparison it feels extra gross very…intentional

    Im proud of her to talk abt it and that theres being put some attention to it, and that she is looking back on it and working through it.
    Protecting the person and excusing the behaviors of said person is something that one does in such a situation.
    Im still to this day excusing the behavior of the one who did it to me.
    I hope she is getting the help and is being protected from what Shane did to her-

    @katiearellanes891 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I'm pretty sure you can't get any worse than Shane Dawson. It's easy to kind of disassociate someone you love or care about from the awful things they did because of the reality of those things. But, a man who confessed he had a sexual encounter with his cat, a man that would take advantage of underage girls wanting their first kiss to be with him, and on top of that all the racism and misogyny and just overall biggotedness in the name of humor is way too much to ever come back from.

    i stopped watching tana a couple years ago and watching the actual podcast made me proud of how far she’s come *but* solidified my decision to not engage w her content. firstly, both her and ethan discredit jake paul’s SA victim. huge side eye. aside from that, i understand that any feelings she had/has towards SD could be trauma-based, but the way that ethan repeatedly laid out several incredibly damning & disturbing pieces of evidence that shane is in fact a pred@tor just for her to have an excuse, justification, “that was the time” and jokes for every single thing (i.e. “oof tough watch” in response to shane’s “s3xually promiscuous puppet of an 8 year old” named milly.) was incredibly alarming. she’s grown, we cannot deny that. but she clearly has ALOT more soul-searching, healing & learning to do.

  • @kathrynvincent1563
    @kathrynvincent1563 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The line of people getting “forgiven” is funny considering it came from Tana, who’s had a million second chances. She also has her own racist past and micro aggressions against black creators who didn’t get as much grace like Simplynessa. If this is her growing awesome, but a lot of people were cannon fodder as she “grows up”. Same with Shane “growing up” when his audience bullied creators that spoke about him like Francesca Ramsey, Bobby Burns, and others

    Tana saying "[Shane] was there for me... He MENTORED the sh*t out of me." like it's a GOOD thing, like she learned everything about TH-cam and running a business / being an influencer from Shane, like he taught her how to be this amazing, successful person... 😆 But then you actually think about how Tana runs her career, how majority of it seems to be capitalizing on scandals, how she's notoriously irresponsible and constantly late to important things.... Great job, Shane, you taught her well. 👏👏👏

    her words kind of contradicted themselves in one spot.
    "Someone will pull up a joke he did that was so unforgivable" "You're wrong for forgiving him for that."
    She acknowledges he went way to far and that some stuff cant be forgiven. But also seems to try and deflect in a way. I can see her being in denial because, (quoting King from The Owl House) 'no one wants to believe they were following the wrong person'
    She doesn't want to believe he is as bad as it all points to.

  • @alexkasper5029

    I think that while it may be that Tana doesn't remember feeling exploited at the time that they made the peeing video, it doesn't mean that it wasn't part of a troubling pattern of behavior that did center around exploited young fans for content. But I think it is also concerning that she initially was drawn to his content bc he would make humor out of fucked up shit, bc I think that it normalized that behavior but also bc Shane's humor is extremely toxic, hateful, and often rooted in self-loathing. There is nothing wrong with using humor as an escape, or being about to laugh about dark shit bc it takes power away from that dark shit, but his humor has never been like that. His sense of humor in his old content is super creepy and gross, he is creating these dark scenarios and making them seem okay which is so awful. And then his humor in his content during his era where he was "unproblematic" was still extremely toxic bc it was so self-absorbed, and often "joking" about how much he hates himself, which I think just normalizes a certain kind of self-loathing. In his current content he still does this constantly and I find it insufferable, but I wonder what impact it has on the young people who love him and look up to him. It is so unhealthy. He is one of the ones who is always talking about therapy and I just have a hard time believing that the work he is doing on that front is really addressing the root of his issues bc I think if it was he would know that continuing to make content focused on how much he hates himself is not progress.

I doubt he’s changed I truly feel like that’s just his character bc when he talks about how he was cancelled it’s like a joke to him. I don’t think he gets the gravity of what he truly did. I don’t like that tana is saying people get canceled for worse things when his is literally as bad as it gets like racism, animal abuse and pedophilia ???? she needs to stop down playing it. this reads so much as like a trauma-bonding and that is not a healthy dynamic at all. the first stage is “love bombing” which is like Tana decribes the initial phase of sudden, intense attempt to create a relatable relationship through high praise and only after does the abuser make any sort of demands that become cyclical patterns of abuse by which point the victim doesn’t recognise it due to being dependent or manipulated

  • @riana8829
    @riana8829 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    tana sounds like someone who had a lot of trauma and people fucking her over in the past. So when shane or anyone gives her an ounce of affection or “care”, it touched her to the point that she can’t see any wrong in what they do. It’s sad but i don’t think she’ll ever change her mind about shane completely because it sounds like she thinks of him as someone she owes.

  • @spinning-ufos
    @spinning-ufos ปีที่แล้ว

    The reason a lot of preteens and teens thought this behavior was okay and the "norm" was because it was full grown adults continuing to perpetuate this content without thinking critically. Tana saying "we went too far" is the response to that influence. Shane was too old to be letting things get that far. That's the point. He needs to be held accountable, because even if he made her, or Rebecca Black for example, feel comfortable in his presence- that doesn't mean they get to take mutual blame. What sets apart Jenna and Shane is only one of them would respond to these conversations by taking full accountability.

    I don't think Tana wants to come to the conclusion currently of being groomed and her relationship with Shane being innapropriate because she idolized him and sees him as a savior of sorts so she is going to continue to make excuses for him because if she doesn't she has to accept that she was one of his victims of innapropriate actions towards minors. Shes still in her younger 20s and as she gets older she'll most likely see just how in the wrong Shane was towards her and other young teens that idolized him. He took advantage of that idolization to have access to young fans. He's a creep and a groomer at the minimum.
    I do have a problem with pushing the idea that men dont know the difference between right and wrong at nearly 30, it pushes the narative that men should be able to get away with whatever because boys will be boys.

BUT the power imbalance issue shouldn't be ignored, and it seems like Tana still is really just processing everything to do with Shane.
