Do you like Phil Collins? I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism. The song, In Too Deep, is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as anything I've heard in rock. Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like In the Air Tonight, Land of Confusion, and Against All Odds. But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist. This is Sussudio, a great, great song, a personal favorite.

Collins wrote “Sussudio” the way he wrote a lot of his songs by playing around with a drum machine, coming up with an idea, and then writing to that idea. This single is 40 years old today (released in the UK on 14 January 1985) and still sounds as fresh today as it did then! Music of the 1980s is timeless. The Princess Victoria pub in Shepherd's Bush (where this was shot) is still there too.

The 1980s is gonna be the first decade to be brought back in the Retro Decade Revival Project. Can you believe when Peter Gabriel left Genesis they auditioned like 30 singers before Phil stepped out from behind the drums and said let me give it a go. He nailed the sound they wanted and the rest is history. He may never have taken that step if they hadn't struggled finding a replacement.

Whenever life has me sad, I just listen to great music after I pray. Take care everyone the 80's was just different.
It was a different world back then
I love this song, and I love that Phil Collins told openly that the inspiration for the song was Prince´s 1999 as he was a huge Prince fan. You can hear it ! Both great songs !!
Se on totta! When I heard Prince's 1999 I immediately had de javu about Sussudio. Didn't know that.
You can hear the influence from “1999” in the music. You’re right that they’re both great songs
I was just thinking this song sounds like a prince bop or prince inspired song. The horns & keyboards do it for me! Love Phil!!
I knew there was a reason I liked his music....re Prince
Yes... he said he listened to 1999 according to a billboard interview... both are great songs
The way he puts melody together in all his songs are just amazing.....
It's a great great song, a personal favorite
80's was one of the best decade for the music!
I know right
Who told that???
a thing the one that just ended certainly isn't

No one replaces Mr. Phil Collins . Excellent artist from back in the days.

Is that Chester on drums? Ace!
My son is 3 years old and I play this tune in hopes he fells in love with the 80s and becomes an intelligent kind person like we did.
Both of my sons, now in their twenties, love 80’s songs. It’s because I played 80’s over and over. Your son will appreciate it when he’s older, trust me. 👍🏽 and….merry Christmas 🎄
@@pommiebears Surly not just because you played it, but on other PR stuff like the Radio, TV music channels/ documentaries, etc
Where you from?
I'm in UK- England in Kent 😃
and don't forget about humble!
you mean the most populer song in AMERICAN Psycho?
yeh that wont back fire ma!

This era has reminded us that the best days have been spent...
yup, ended in 1989. downhill ever since.
In terms of commercial quality music and ecletic music genre(s) that were also comercialy viable, 1980s were the zenith (synth pop, heavy metal, r&b, alternative, world music, disco, darkwawe, new wave, pop, rock, rap, soul, funk, techno, electro, glam rock, hard rock, jazz, nu jazz, bossa nova, art rock, world music, break dance, acid house, rockabilly, blues...).
😢
This single is 40 years old today (released in the UK on 14 January 1985) and still sounds as fresh today as it did then! Music of the 1980s is timeless. The Princess Victoria pub in Shepherd's Bush (where this was shot) is still there too.
ah, 1985 classics.. Phil Collins became to commercial as a solo artist, but sussudio is a great, great song!
Jestermon1 Thank you for stating the obvious.
His vocal range is brilliant !
Phil was as great live as he was in the stu stu studio.
Thirty years later this Song is still good.
That is the definition of ....M.A.S.T.E.R.P.I.E.C.E!
Still still goodio
STILL!
Great music isn't losing quality during time. Look for Vivaldi or Beethoven, still great music after hundreds years.
When Phil Collins comes in at 01:04, the day always gets better. This song brings back so many great memories about the 80s. The Vibe, Miami Vice, all of it.
Me too.
This song will "SLAP" forever 🔥🔥
the 80s will SLAP forever too
Just imagine being in a pub and the band starts playing with this much fire.
Earth Wind and Fire’s Horns!!! Phil Collins knows about quality!!
I always forget how fucking awesome this song is.
marc80s yeah don't forget...
"This is Sussudio, a great, great song, a personal favorite!"
Yeah it is a good song
39 years later I am still hearing and dancing to this cool and powerful song!
Phil Collins is an enormous artist! You are a legend!
Ive been needing to check out more Phil Collins, and THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED AND I KNEW I WOULD FIND!!!
Any hardcore fans, please point me to more songs like this with that heavy synth bass, i love it and I can't get enough. I could listen to thick heavy 80s bass synth songs till the end of time!
This is pure magic, simply a classic
I think this song is going to make a come back soon!
Nick F You watched the Desicable Me 3 trailer didn't you?😂
Yes....Yes I did sir!
This song is absolutely amazing!
This is the reason I love 80s music so much!
The 1980s is gonna be the first decade to be brought back in the Retro Decade Revival Project. Our goal is to bring real entertainment, true talent, pure originality and diversity, old school and more back into the public mainstream, starting with the 1980s. That means real music will make a permanent comeback into the mainstream.
True that
@@reneastle8447 They did a study back in 2015. They found that 80's music was the most upbeat and happy
The least happy .. 2010 to 2015. they found it to be 20% less upbeat than 30 years ago
@@WolfsH0ok Impressive, quite impressive. Good thing 80s music will make a permanent comeback into the mainstream. You're very clever indeed, pal.
THIS IS AN 80' S THUNDERSTORM!!!!!!!!!!!
3:33 incredible hand movements by Phil!
With all those 3's I was expecting some masonic hand symbols or something. I was pleasantly surprised
The good old days of good, soul-touching, and comforting music! I love Phil Collins!
One of the bounciest basslines EVER!! I LOVE Phil Collins AND Genesis!!
Leland Sklar th-cam.com/video/87IR9x8QApM/w-d-xo.html
@@dsvet thank you
This record was inspired by Prince's 1999
Leland Sklar didn't play on the studio version as it's 2 programmed synth basslines. He did play one of the basslines with a bit of playback to make sound more close to the original.
Phil is definitely a living legend , both as singer or drummer , as solo artist or Genesis his music is best.
Excellent jam from Mr. Phil Collins. Old school music is the best. Original artist. The 80s is the best decade in music 🎶. I'm glad I lived this great music as a kid. Another time another era. Old school rules.
Awesome backing by earth , wind and fire
I DIDNT EVEN REALISE IT WAS THEM
3 of their members yes. They had their own band called Earth Wind & Fire Horns, then later 'The Phoenix Horns'
They were the Phoenix Horns not Ewf
Yes, the horn section from Earth, Wind & Fire is used throughout Phil Collins's song "Sussudio"
I thought those were synth generated horns
Killer brass on this tune. Love it.
Thats the horn section from Earth Wind & Fire
TSUTSUGO Does it again!!!!!!
I'm HERE!!!! I LOVE Phil Colljns😊😊😊😊
one of Phil collins BEST songs.....love the beat, the melody and everything!!!! LOVE IT 🎉🎊

For losers like you, yes the present's bad, for others despite all of the bad things in life, the present's still good.
Agreed ❤
I wanna get back to the 80's in all kinds of ways, for plenty of reasons! Music was better. Everything was better! The future looked brighter. I wouldn't even consider having kids in today's times, not with the climate change, political unrest, oh so many things too long to list...*sigh* I love my 80's music though! :-)
Absolutely one of my favourite Phill Collins track Sussudio from my childhood days back in 1980's. Still has that spark 😊❤️💕♥️💖🙏.
Phil was a freakin musical genius... Him, Peter Gabriel and Paul Simon were doing magical things with music
And Neil Young obviously, first onto 60's and 70's scene..love it
Everything Phil touches becomes pure gold. Every single song he ever created either alone or in corporation with another artist became a hit. This guy defines talent and he is a true master of music in my opinion. Yes, I'd still consider myself a fanboy.
Can you believe when Peter Gabriel left Genesis they auditioned like 30 singers before Phil stepped out from behind the drums and said let me give it a go. He nailed the sound they wanted and the rest is history. He may never have taken that step if they hadn't struggled finding a replacement.
I also loved Peter Gabriel. Great musicians...
Go and watch the Miami Vice episode 'Phil The Shill' - Phil plays a very sleazy game show host
sad....ya gotta cheat em to beat em. stay up, good luck . jh
4:29 am and I'm really having a ball up early and chilling with Phil
I used to watch MTV hoping they would play this.
