I am a private pilot so I can wear this. That said, the zero at the 12 o'clock is simulating the Altimeter in a airplane with vintage instruments. I love this

Nice to see the bright lume on this color. I have the green one, and the lume doesn't look as bright, probably because they went with the brownish patina-ed look for the lume instead of white.

I have 2 Avi-8 quartz watches. One is a Hawker Hurricane designed to look like a Hurricane instrument, and a Hawker Hunter which has design themes from that plane (such as turbine blades). The attention to detail and quality is superb. I had bought a timex field watch from a high street jeweller and the crown broke on it so I asked them to order another one but it lost about 40 minutes in one week. When looking to find something else to get the jeweller to replace the poor quality timex with I found Avi-8 on their website. No problems at all so far, very cool looking watches for a good price that get a lot of compliments.

I just put a light tan leather NATO strap on my Bulova Black Lunar Pilot Ion coated Chronograph this morning. It's a really good pilot watch for about $350. So far, with the high precision quartz movement, accurate to 1-second per year. 8 times faster than a typical quartz movement. 262.144 kHz vs. 32.768 kHz (It uses 3 types of temperature compensation, 2-passive, 1-active). Sapphire crystal. Screw on back. 60-minute chronograph with 0.1-second complication.

Flieger is unquestionably "fleeger," to rhyme with "Seeger," which simply means flyer, ie pilot. "Flyger," vowel as in "fly," would be Fleiger (not a word); the y as in fly is spelled ei. Not whatever, it's quite simple, really, and not even a weird vowel you have to fudge, like ü or ö, or spelled weirdly, like French. So yeah, for this video, I'm that guy.

I've ordered 3 AVI-8 watches. First one, the Hawker looked great, but had dust under the crystal and second hand did not line up. They gave credit and return label immediately, and I replaced it with a Lancaster Bomber. When I put a better band on it, it is a favorite, so I bought a Harrier. Complications are so small to read, practically useless. But when I took the back off the Harrier to replace the dead battery, I was disappointed by the tiny Japan movement (no jewelsa) and large plastic retainer to hold it in, plus the dial rattled around when the plastic was plucked for the new battery. It still works, but I don't plan on buying a third, they are more of an Image company like MVMT. These two are still high in my rotation, but I'm happier with the used Citizen Ecosphere I put a NATO on for less.

    • @heatseeker456

      I have to agree.
      I have bought 2 AVI-8's.
I have bought the ACE of spades Automatic that I still love and still use.
But I also bought the AVI 8 Aviator Watch AV-4064-03 that was a big disaster.
The small second hand kept falling out every time you reset the Chrono. I told the watch repair guy to just leave the hand out in the end.
I am an EXPAT living in SE Asia so doing a return is very difficult if something is not right.
I still use the watch as a work watch but that was a big turn off.

I like the concept (I love the 0) but there's one big issue. If you are going with 0-11 for your large outer numbers, then the inner ones need to be 12-23. As it is the hours progress 10, 11, 24, 13, 14, etc... The whole point of using 0 is military time, which doesn't use the 24XX hour, so why put 24 there? Why ruin such an awesome design?

I think this is probably the best watch Avi-8 currently sells. Many of their watches are visually complex which for a statement piece or a collectible is fine. However, if you frequently look at it, their minimalist watch designs such as the Flyboy Engineer, Mustang, and Spitfire watches are good. My only major complaint is just they don't sell small watches. I recently picked up the Altimeter watch while it was on sale. It was taken off the site right afterward funny enough but it's still on Amazon. I have a 6.5" wrist and it is a bit large for me. I don't mind as it's a tiny bit smaller than my Timex Expedition. However, a Flieger triangle at the 12/0 with some lume would have been nice. Plus the strap is a bit thick for my taste but c'est la vie. Overall I think the brand is going towards a great direction if they keep up with the classic designs with the unique dials.

There is also the Momentum Fieldwalker. You can get it in quartz or an Auto for a very affordable price. They sell it as a field watch but the font setting screams pilot watch too. I got the Auto for $400 CDN on a sale so its afordable. The quartz version is a hundo or so less? And has a yellow second hand instead of red. It also has saphire as and option if you but from the manufacturer as well as a verity of strap and bracelet options.
Note I love the Avi-8 watches but for me the second you find one you like they tend to stop producing it. Their limited run strategy on some of their watches is agrivating and I refuse to pay more than MSRP.

I'm starting to get into watches and I'm considering a Citizen Eco-Drive with a leather band, an Invitca Pro Diver with a metal band and a Timex Expedition I'm not sure which to start off with I'm leaning towards the Timex and Citizen due to the leather bands over the metal Invitca I'm also looking at a Seiko Samurai as a more expensive option for when I feel more comfortable with handling a watch that isn't a $25 Target special

I would be nice if they give you a discount code for your reviewers. We get 20% discount and you get a small fee for every purchase. Also AVI8 is part of a large group of companies, does it still be considered a micro brand?

I have never seen a watch with a 0 in place of 12. I like it.

Nice homage to the IWC Mark XVII and XVIII. One of my favorites.

Love this affordable micro Pilot alternative. Great style and Lume. Wish it has just a little smaller lug to lug but it seems to curve well on your 7.5 wrist which is fortunately my wrist size 👍

Is there a reason that AVI-8 used a 0 instead of a 12? In my opinion, there should be a 12 and the 24 should be replaced with 0. The reason, twice a day the time is actually 12:00. It is never actually 24, but rather 0.

Dude, AV-8 is NOT a microbrand. It is owned by Solar Time and operated through Dartmouth Brands, a front they set up in London. They also own Spinnaker and a bunch of other "microbrands". They are a major watch and jewelry manufacture out of Hong Kong. Basically the exact opposite of a microbrand.

i just wish it was a bit smaller :(. i have small wrists so 41 mm without crown/ 45 mm lug-to-lug is the largest i can wear without my wrist being completely overshadowed.

When you pushed the crown back in something fell from what looked like between the crown and case.

The dial and especially the hands look very similar to the quartz Grayton Harrier.
It is quite nice for AVI8. I am intrigued by their square watch akin to a dial in a jet plane.

It's a nice looking watch but it doesn't have a screwdown crown! I bought a pilots watch off Amazon for 105.00... daywalker is tge brand name... Swiss c3 loom, sapphire crystal, screw down crown, 300 m water resistance, NH 35, stainless steel case and solid case back. This is a small micro brand company, and now you can buy this watch for a 145.00 with a pt5000 movement. I have had my watch for over a year and the quality is outstanding! I would put it up against even the best Swiss watch, and you can't beat the price...
