I can see why Vader let him go, it wasn't a scheme to get power or gain favour. It was a gesture. Honest and pure with no agenda behind it.
Definetly non cacon. Its not a bad gesture but if it really hits his birthday he would ask how does he know? He would kill him for knowing his old identity
@@alemonkiki is it possible that Canon Vader might on the flip side appreciate the fact that the trooper had all that power but chose only to use it in a show of sincere appreciation? I'm not too familiar on how Canon Vader treats stormtroopers let alone ones who would do such a (admittedly foolish) but earnestly kind thing.
@@fawfulbenivictor5556 Cannon Vader probably just kill him or let him go after interrogation
I'm willing to bet he was crying under the helmet.
For sure that’s what I thought too

Darth Vader: *Don't come to the death star tomorrow...*
HAHAH
😂😂😂😂😂
“Lord Vader, there are too many of them, what are we supposed to do?!”
😂
Stormtrooper: Hey, honey, got the day off.
Imagine Palpatine randomly walking in and saying “Happy birthday Lord Vader” That would be truly terrifying
I imagined Robot Chicken's Palpatine doing this lmao
That would be unusually wholesome and I would like to see that however unlikely it is.
“your present you get to kill more children.” -palps probably
@@colonelx185 A little too wholesome 😅 I’d fully expect it to be followed by a few zaps of lightning as a gift for Vader’s birthday
@@btristin01HAPPY BIRTHDAY LORD VADER HE HA HA HA HA as he's zapping tf out of him 😂
Im truly suprised that trooper remaind alive after this
Especially after showing him he can be touched
To be fair, even as Vader, Anakin valued simple gestures. Even something as small as a good wish.
Plus, this can be one of the many seeds of the eventual redemption.
Being a stormtrooper is probably punishment enough. Besides Vader killed officers because either they were incompetent and put others in danger or they were arrogant snobs that vader couldn't stand.
@@Herr.P I don't know were but I think a snobby officer and one of his Stormtroopers were having a conversation on the matter and it went something like
Officer: What makes Lord Vader more deserving of respect then me?
Trooper: If I may sir, he never asks us to do anything he can't do himself.
Think the clone wars series shows this, Anakin actually cared about the lives of his 501st,thats why they loved him. The jedi who were meant to cherish all life were 99% terrible commanders who saw the clones as nothing more than droids to be thrown away. The deeper you get into the lore you can see why the jedi fell. The were self absorbed and ignorant which completely contradicted their 'jedi code'. Look for the you tube series called Star Wars I.M.P.S and it will completely change the way you see the stormtroopers.
I like to think Vader was so confused about what happened he just forgot to kill the guy.
"Wtf... How? Who was? Wh-"
bro got flaggerblasted.
'I-it was that Cody maybe?, or Rex?, no, they would have older bodys and i probably could reconize them by the force...Maybe one of my childhood friends?, man ,what the hell just happened?'
And he said "Padmé?"
Which makes no sense. He can literally read minds. The moment that trooper took the diary, Vader should have sensed it.
@@Warrior-Of-Virtue of course it makes no sense. That's why it's funny.

still comedic to me that there were more stormtroopers vader vibed with better than any of the inquisitors or palpatine
I think canonically vader treats soldiers under his command far better then the officers and inquisition
The officers treat the soldiers as canon fodder and it all goes back to Anakin detesting when overlords think less of their subjects
Anakin always had a respect for his soldiers, going all the way back to the clone wars. Makes sense that he would have respect for stormtroopers. They do the difficult work, not the power hungry, self centered Imperial Officers
@@angryvaultguyI hated how darth Vader treated them in Jedi fallen order..

Its actually cool to see that there are many kinds of storm trooper, some show fear, others show heart like Bob.
That stormtrooper is the kind of guy who will do something risking his job just to make everybody happy
I love how the played on the Whole Misquoted "Luke, I am your Father." with the Look, I am your father line in his diary.
Apparently there are 3 versions, no luke Im your father, the iconic luke im your father and No, Im your father.
Wishing Vader a happy birthday when no one else would have any means of knowing that information is risky enough but the fact that he put his hand on Vader's shoulder is even more insane
5:39 Moving his hand towards Vader was extremely dangerous. He was lucky that Vader didn't take out his saber. He was going to do it, but when he heard Happy Birthday, he was shocked.
He likely felt his intentions through the force.
Its fun to see that Darth Vader of all people, had a very casual side to him that he simply kept hidden from everybody, and that Vader was truly contemplating how he would break the news to Luke that he was his father. Whenever he is seen on screen or panel, Vader always maintains a strict, controlled composure and it seems that his mind is only on empire business; as though he is a robot programmed for domination. Knowing that Vader really is human underneath his figurative & literal masks and wants to connect with people is actually touching.
at the end of the day, anakin is still there
it's such a gentle, humanizing moment. secretly wishing someone to start a connection with him, but knowing he can't simply come out and say "today is my birthday" because then people would disingenuously fall over themselves to celebrate. instead, with this small token from a unidentified stormtrooper probably leads him to think "they... already know? they know it's my birthday, but they never bring it up. they don't want to make a big deal of it... maybe to respect the hierarchy? maybe because i never made a point of it, they assume i don't care about my birthday... what if... what if they care about me? what if they truly respect me? i should show them some kindness in return for this. the galaxy could do with a little more kindness." and that could have been one of a thousand lynchpins that set off his turning on his master in protection of his son. the idea that even the men he sends to their deaths care about him, maybe there is still hope left, after all.
It's now my head canon that he only saved Luke because Bob wished him a happy birthday

Gotta love the fact Vader has established such a intimidating and ruthless reputation and aura that one of the stormtrooper 's actually has to remind the other that yes, Lord Vader was born and does indeed have a birthday. 😂
The comic seems to have been written as parody, but it really does get at something probably very true to Vader's character.
feels a bit both a comedy and tragedy, clearly written by someone who is a fan of the franchise but isn't afraid to have a few laughs, kinda like the robot chicken sketches in how they really do feel true to the spirit

This is actually one of the best stories I ever read on Star Wars, so much heart, wisdom, and authenticity in this story.
Vader and the stormtrooper experienced a moment of authenticity outside of the things that go on in the empire. It’s a big story to me
Anyone who treats this as anything other than a fart joke is beneath being regarded as a functional or even neutrally valid and allowable excuse for a human being
Um no. This is written garbage. Vader has completely gotten rid of his former identity. It would be like wishing a trans activist happy birthday (deadname).
@@sirellyn 100% this
@@sirellynYou have a strange obsession with trans activists if they’re on your mind this much
I don’t believe giving Vader a normal human journal diary that was found under “magazines” is a great representation of his character.
No way Vader can even get it up anymore, assuming he even has his package after the burning.
"I don't know which Trooper that was, but I WILL find him. He will be given what he deserves... A promotion and a vacation."
ON ALDERAAN!
A promotion at Vader's army would just mean one step closer to get force choked.
It makes sense for the stormtroopers to feel that way and think about helping him. They were passionate about fighting for the Empire and were in the end just regular people who also thought that they were on the right side and had a family and everything to fight and care for. Vader was a legend and so of course they'd feel bad for their leader, because in their eyes the man is a decisive warrior who's many times together with them at the front lines and cleaning buildings and taking over whole enemy ships. I'd feel some type of way too if I find out my leader who's always so intimidating, strong, powerful and legendary is actually alone and struggling.
Was that trooper a former Spaceballer? He does a pick in his hair.
“We ain’t found sh!t!”
Well, it's a non-canon comic, so...
Can't be. B-Ball was outlawed long before the events of Star Wars, when Barkley performed the forbidden Chaos Dunk.
It's a 70s thing.
Some afro americans considered it as a way to show pride
Noticed the same, artist definitely had that in mind.
I like how insecure Vader was with all the whole " there is an intruder among y'all " thing. Cuz Dart Fuckin' Vader couldn't come up to his army and ask: " did somebody took my dairy??!! "
....it was Luke Skywalker. The intruder is Luke Skywalker, who sneaks on board and uses a Stormtrooper outfit. C'mon man, Vader even says in this comic, "I'm about to meet Luke Skywalker"
@@Nintendopowerdude but isn't he wearing a Stormtrooper costume in the fourth movie A new hope when he needs to save Princess Leia ? While it's said that this story takes place near the events of The Empire strikes back, when Luke meets Vader he isn't even in armor so really I don't know why you say it's Luke being the intruder, that wouldn't make sense
Honestly
This is probably the only time Vader wasn't treated as a military politician
The whole "Look, I am your father." is perfect.
Being someone who has held in his feelings for about 14 years and I'm 24 now, I can 90% say with confidence that the pause he had was thinking how he knew as said but he was shedding tears with a straight face of confused happiness

It actually makes a lot of sense that he would be this emotional by this point in the story. He's already aware of who luke is. Meeting Luke fundamentally changes him from the cold, calculated killer into a doting dad lol
This comic is better than the Disney trilogy.

Remember that as Anakin and as Vader, he 'leads' his troops, so other than incompetent soldiers, he has more camaraderie with competent ones.

Vader breaking down for his mom in a moment of weakness is so sad 😢
I like it, its twisted in its own way. could you imagine Palpatine actually remembering his birthday and what he would do to "celebrate" it? I'd like to think he'd consider Vaders birthday, the day Anakin burned on Mustafar and would of course mock him with a molten lava cake, which Vader can't eat because of his suit

There's still something approaching empathy in Vader in past comics (no longer canon in almost all cases). He's in constant agony and irritated by his suit's life support making useless chirps and racket just to keep him awake and piss him off doesn't help but he *DOES* show compassion to people who show loyalty and courage.
I just want Vader to have a beer with these guys. AT LEAST A FRIENDS OR TWO. Cause it is Vader they would have to die tragically… but anyway. I could imagine the conversation:
Bob: “so your son is Skywalker?”

Even though this story is more humorous, it shows Vader in a more sympathetic light. I can relate to this in some ways where people are intimidated by me. These vignettes are why I was so mad about the Disney Retcon. They really show the humanity of the Empire. Sure they're a bunch of indoctrinated sociopaths, but they still have birthdays and friends. They still struggle with the basics. Legends was really special.
exactly like there’s definitely some sort of idea that “i joined the imperial army cuz they would pay for my galactic college tuition”
Disney missed the mark on so many levels. It's incompetency on an unimaginable scale.
This diary entry makes me read Darth Vader as a highschool anime character~
The series would be focused around the stormtroopers showing Vader how to smile again.
Adorable Vader just needs a hug
Then you have to Teen movie it up and it will end in tragedy. Just when they are about to have a real connection , something deeply private and embarrassing gets shared all around the ship. *The next scene is new crew entering a newly scrubbed and sanitized ship*
Darth Vader saying he turned out fine caused me to start cackling in the middle of a library
I think the Stormtrooper unintentionally just saved a ton of people from being Force Choked for not being able to find the intruder. Vader I guess decided it worked in his favor, as the Stormtroopers were more likely to lay down their lives for him and the Empire, if they recognized a human side within him.
I would LOVE for something like this to be canon.
I like how the story itself is a bit comical how Vader has a diary, and he writes he hes sad that no one knows his birthday
But at the same time, it's incredibly depressing, he writes in it because he feels that he has no one else to talk to, hes extremely depressed and alone, its both kinda funny and very depressing
Everyone is talking about how Vader spared the troopers, but I still cant get over the fact that Vader has a diary 😂
we open up those magazines, they are all just pod racer magazines, the fold out is a literal fold out of a hot rod styled pod racer

Vader can pretend he's not Anakin anymore, but he's still definitely Anakin. His writing style screams "Anakin wrote this".
Vader has shown a small ability to tell if theres a second reason or hidden intentions in words or actions. He probably got nothing but good vibes and a truthful feeling from the trooper
The boldest storm trooper ever!! Beskar balls we call it
I've always wanted a series that was like the office, but with storm troopers. Just their daily life's and goings on. It's always great to see them just messing around and being normal people in the shows and comics, bantering and joking and what not. Like I feel it would be really fun to see a show all about that
This stormtrooper needs a life time supply of credits👍
I like to imagine he’s tearing up under his mask, knowing that he should crush bobs larynx with the force, but he so desperately wanted the kindness and human side he was losing, and bob helped him achieve that
I forget which book it is but Vader is trying to use the darkside of the force to heal himself...starts to feel happiness from the healing...loses control of the dark side of the force and the healing stops. I kinda feel this is how he might have felt after the stormtrooper wished him a happy birthday, a brief hit of happiness and then feeling his power ebb would enhance the loneliness.
I like how the artist managed to draw vader in the last panel somhow looking like his eyes were tearing up despite it being a mask haha
Vader was so stunned by it he forgot to kill the stormtrooper
That is a level of depth I would not have expected from a Darth Vader parody
Bob 10000000% has maxed out luck
I loved this comic ever sense I was made aware of it a few weeks ago on TH-cam; something we rarely see in most Star Wars media is the human side of Stormtroopers, and what better way to showcase that than two Stormtroopers learning information about the same man who killed countless of their comrades out of spite that will undoubtedly get them killed, and showing sympathy to that man and even wishing him a happy birthday.
it's also the little moments like this that just makes me so happy and makes the setting feel more alive for me. ^ ^
"I turned out all right..."
Its these small moments that cant be squeezed into the movies that makes the comics worth it imo
Lol Vader just stands there thinking about it 😂
To have someone bother wishing you a happy birthday is to have someone show they care about the fact you're there.
It'd be unlikely Vader would have a diary, but I could totally see the rest of this story playing out somehow despite this fact.
Vader does have more of a connection with the stormtroopers, he fights with them, like he fought with the clone troopers. It's nice to be remembered on your birthday.
