Hey guys thanks for watching! Please wishlist my little flying squirrel game on steam: store.steampowered.com/app/1877560/Walter_Walnut/ Like I said in the video this is a side project that took longer than expected and I'll go back to the shooter game afterwards :)
Please add workshop support it would be really cool to have extra islands by the community also I think an option for the pixel shader could look really nice
Hey Codeer, I dont know if youll see this comment, but I just wanted to thank you for inspiring me to make video gaming. It's always been a bit of a dream of mine to make a game, and you always make it seem so easy. I hope your doing well, wherever you are in life. Just know that when you come back, you'll still have a loyal fan base ready and waiting!
glad to hear of you again! the game kind of gives me a little nostalgia about a squirrel survival game on phone i used to love playing ages ago :) game itself seems really awesome, defenitely gonna wishlist it! my personal ideas for possible improvements: - more fleshed out combat; dodging, blocking, quick/weak- and slow/strong attacks etc. - tiny friendly AI/NPCs such as small birds that wouldnt do much but make the world feel more alive so hostiles arent the only thing capable of moving - temporary buffs (faster flight for example,) you could find in maps, which would be needed to get through certain areas that might give some extra rewards for more challenge - lots of different biomes, such as swamps, underwater oceans, deep forests (like redwood forests), snowy mountains and so forth hope this helps for some inspiration ^^
Thank you for the wishlist and the comprensive feedback! Awesome ideas, I agree the combat can use some variation, I didn't show it in the video but there's ability chests that can unlock new moves so I'll try and put a dash and maybe another attack in those! There's also some small crabs that don't really do anything but flee from the player so that's similar to your suggestion. The buffs also sound really nice and I'll try to keep the biomes varied :)
Im hoping everything has been well for you! Be it you are still planning to make videos or not i still love lookong theough your older devlogs! I hope you arnt feeling to overwhelmed to fit a lot into one video. Id even love to see shorter content as well just because updates are fun. I dont play games and i dont make them, but hearing your projects are always so much fun! Be safe Codeer. I think of your artistry very often♡
The game looks pretty cool and I like the way of editing with the stock footage inbetween. I especially enjoyed the funny ones like the one with "time consuming" :D
I just discovered this channel but I love it. Honestly it’s really exciting to see one person able to do all this and also I can see you actually listen to your audience and are excited to add their suggestions to the game. I really like the engagement. That makes your game so unique too-how you literally directly work with the public to create your game. And that you get inspired by it-you even improve upon the advice you get. Outstanding. Edit: Also this character reminds me a little of Scrat from Ice Age-obviously because he’s a squirrel. I wonder if maybe adding some personality to the character in your game could be good. Kind of like how Mario, etc. have their own personality. Things like grimaces, happy face, a cheer, etc. Scrat is so beloved because of his personality.
Really loving this game's art style, great job making a complete game so fast! It's already in much better shape than some early access games I've seen on Steam.. wishlisted :)
Just remembered you exiat again and looked to see how you were! Happy for the break and happy your looking at other things! I hope the break is treating you well and i feel blessed we even got this video! Your doing great work man keep it up
Holy he harted you he is alive ok so this is just a big break than...ok understandable at least now I know he is alive thanks to the heart holy 10 months...
I thought him carrying the package on his hand while gliding looked a bit weird. What if he wore it as a backpack instead? For gliding maybe. Then maybe he uses the package as well to whack around enemies for a melee attack
glad to see you taking a moment to make something thats relaxed but also a project you can learn from, like you did audio for the game somethign YET to be done remotly for the main. i applayed ya for ya work overall. think you for the time you put in to make both games so far. plus you have keeped from burning out. :P i have some games i have completly or nearly stoped playing because i have played them so heavly.
I just started learning gamedev 2 months ago currently making a 3d flappy bird clone, and my dream game is inspired by “weird shooter game” I really loved the art style and the procedural and robotic animations. I just had a big hit of nostalgia when I realized you will probably never come back. I just want to thank you for making me believe in myself and inspiring me to start my gamedev journey. If you ever come back I will definitely support you and give you credit in my game. I really hope you come back.
I love how you say "this little game" when it really doesn't seem that little. Looks like a lot of thought and effort has been put into it and it's got quite a lot of features (I watched this after watching 6 devs pass the game). Looks really fun and with good vibes! Wishlisted it :)
You have no idea how much I missed your content! I was about to watch the "weird shooter game" playlist for the 100th time (obviously exaggerated but still) Great to see you back :) I guess the best thing of having multiple games is that, the possibility of carrying over experience and stuff you've made from one game to another, good call, this game is looking really good as well.
Love the style of the game! Currently I'm also working on a bigger project, and it was really inspiring to watch your progress with this game so far :)
Thank you :) glad you liked the audio part, I agree not many people seem to talk about it, perhaps because it's a bit tricky to show off in a video format
This is the best surprise you have given us. You haven't uploaded a video 3 months ago, and now you've downloaded a clip in which you made a full game. keep going my friend
Very well made devlog, I got some great insights about your workflow which is really helpful for a newbie gamedev. And the game itself is amazing - super cute, nice style, looks well made. I can't believe this is a "side project". You got a sub and a wishlist from me!
The game looks great! The character design mixed with the cartoon effect really makes the game pop. I especially like the design of King Walnut! I usually put off audio until the end of a project too, I still haven't found a good way to do it. I love how you change the music while the character glides, definitely adds a ton to the game! Can't wait to see more!
So I thought about it for a bit, in your main project, what if you add little data chips that you can find after you beat a boss or after completing a certain part of the story. This data chips would be upgrades that you can insert into your helmet to access certain upgrades, such as using one of your legs as a grappler, with similar physics as a spiderman game, and maybe one upgrade can give you the ability to use your spider legs to spread out into a thin glider, kind of similar to your squirrel character, and then later on you'll be able to find a small jet boost. Just an idea, I think it would be a cool addition to the game.
I totally love this kind of game :) it seems lovely and relaxing af, will definitely wishlist it and looking forward to play it :) cheers from france :))
Man, when you look at this game and then the strange shooter, you can totally see what your style is like. I absolutely love it! Keep up the good work. 👍
Tried the game. I love the style and level design. The npcs dialogue is good as for the lore. In my opinion it was worth waiting for 2 years to play it.❤ 10/11 for first commercial game.
Looks amazing. Has a lot of A Short Hike vibes. And it's good that you took a break, switched gears and focused one releasing a game on Steam, wishlisted!
this game looks so much fun!! i hope you can finish and release it sometime soon, i cant wait to play it !! i even think it would be cool to expand it into an even larger game, even if that’s like post-launch additions or working simultaneously/alternating with your main project :)

not gonna lie, i want this game! Maybe you could expand a secondary melee attack like i think it could get boring with just one attack type
