Thanks guys for watching and for 100k subscribers :) I've not yet continued working on the big robot from the previous devlog but hopefully the updates in this devlog are interesting too! I've also tried to find a good name for the game; I was thinking Formbound but I'm not super happy with it yet so it's still just weird shooter game for now
I think you should definitely use similar retro-style music in the game just like you do in your devlogs. It would be different and unexpected, making it more memorable and I think with the desaturated pallete it would give a really and cool retro unique feel to the game.
There should be a small burst of fire from the jetpack the character is wearing when they roll, it would make sense as it would propel them so they can maintain the airtime seen in your dash mechanic
@@alexlocke_ I think that could be good but I also think the thing that makes the spiderform so good is the ground maneuverability so it would kind of take away from that aspect.
I don't know, some of the robots seem really similar. Like they have different shapes and stuff, but they have the same leg system and everything, so differentiation may be a bit challenging.
About "Discoveries" you can add silhouettes of things you can discover Simple thing, but players will be able to search for them more efficiently Keep up the good work!
it is lovly to see what so far has become of this, and from what i have seen about the logbook deal of what ya seen just about every game i play that has em has the stuff as a the first option of its all listed and reviled ONCE found.
Saw a few seconds of gameplay and was hooked - this was months ago. I had to type what I remembered from the video to find your channel again, and Im glad I did. Warms my heart to see you're still going strong. Trying to stay updated without watching too much since I wanna go in as blind as possible when the game is released. You got something special here!
I am really waiting for the next devlog. I absolutely love the game and would buy it the day of release, it genuinely looks amazing and so does the gameplay
Looking really good! For the drone AI, you might want to look into how Mizizizi did the Enemy AI for his game, Wrought Flesh. Basically, the Enemies start of inaccurate, and become more and more accurate, the longer the player moves in the same direction. This encourages fast movement and would work well with the dash you have now I think :D
That sounds great, thanks! Haha I'm actually using the technique you're describing from Miziziziz on another enemy, maybe it can also work on the drones!
i am loving your devlogs, i am learning unreal but the way you explain the problems you encounter gives me some things to look out for once i start developing my own game
This is so exciting and inspiring! I tried my hand at unity, but it is still too hard for me 😬 Could you tell how long did you take to create this dev log? As in how much time of work both in days and in total hours you needed in order to produce what we saw in the video? The feeling that I got when I tried is that it would take me year to even make a 2D map, let alone sometime 3D
Glad it's inspiring! I don't know exactly, but the last devlog was almost 3 months ago. I usually work on the game in the evening and during weekends, so I think this devlog is something like 2 hours per day for 2-3 months. Definitely keep going! tbh because I only make devlogs once every couple months it probably seems like a get much more done than I do haha
Hey it's been a long time since we have seen your videos I hope you are doing well I really like this game, we would be very happy to see you continue this game
When you showed the beginning menu, I immediately felt the need of a sci Fi dungeon for a level (Alien or 2001 ships style), a dark place where to find answers.. something like that.. I love everything of your taste. This game feels already amazing!
A suggestion here: I think there should some boss fights which you can trigger example: ( by press a emergency button in lab which causes an big bot to attack you ). Or some event caused bosses when you do a certain thing like Killing a same type of drone this 50 times or 70 times. something like that or doing somethings in a order to summon a boss. Now this might be already a lot but to me I know you can make much better then this. And I’ll be so extremely excited when this game comes out!!!
I came across your channel a while ago and I always wanted to tell you that your game's aesthetic and the art style is literally the best one I've seen yet.
There could be a grapple mechanic if you're playing as the spider, so you could basically swing around and past enemies. Great game, though! I'm very hyped and I'll most definitely play it once it's done
Maybe you can make the Rolling/Backflip have something to with the tentacles like the character pulls itself with them? either way the idea is great, another thing I wanted to add is that the smelling mechanic while a little weird is pretty cool. having points of interest around the open world is good, I finished playing halo infinite which has an open world however, after collecting the few things there are to collect. the open world becomes kind of stale, running around aimlessly and killing small groups of enemies is the only thing to do, my point is adding interactable things that keep the levels interesting is something I think you should consider doing, and the smelling mechanic is a step in that direction!
This game is looking great! Except some suggestions would be: it needs some sort of missions, and there is too much area with nothing in it, you seemed like you were walking in plain fields a lot. Other than that the game is looking amazing, keep up the good work!
Amazing work mate! Those memory dioramas are a stroke of genius, well done! This video also made me realise that the game will be way bigger then I thought, can't wait to see how big it will get. Good luck~
I think a cool way you could help implement story is by adding some passive robots that carry out this mission, kind of like worker drones. for example you could see them digging from large mines. it would be a cool and more passive way to show the lore behind the game.
Definitely! thanks for the feedback, yes I want to make the storytelling a combination of environmental storytelling as well as the memory bubbles. The memory bubbles kind of show what happend in the past, and game world itself can tell the story of where the player is and what is happining in the present.
Being a writer, I had a veritable frisson of excitement when you mentioned that there would be entries for every item, including memories. That means that each memory could get a sort of log, or journal entry, and there could be a paragraph (or two, or even a whole page!) of text, written perhaps from the perspective of the character. Something like. . . . "I was passing through a field today, the one I discovered so long ago now that it seems like I've always known about it, when a scent hit me so hard I was sent hurtling into the past, into my mother's kitchen. It was the smell of sage. I don't know why I'd never noticed it before, having trod that verdant grass more times than I can count, though I was a bit further east than usual. Either way, I'm glad it happened, because the memories it elicited were so strong that I know they'll stay with me for a long time to come, like a good friend-and I know I could use one of those right now. The intensity is still astonishing to me. I can recall every detail: The cool floor under my bare feet, the rough texture of Mother's coarse apron that I would swat at and mash my face into for no reason that makes sense. The gentle and humored reproach in her voice and gentle push of her hand to usher me from the tangle of her legs." Alright, that's my writing for the day, thanks for the inspiration!
It's getting better and better. You really sold me with the silhouette cinematic and the new sci-fi menu. That's my kind of jam. I don't buy much games but this I would consider. Well done! ;-)
A small issue with your controls choice for the grab is about UX: if you use the same input for several actions, it needs to feel intuitive to the player. Using the scrollwheel to pull/push the enemy doesn't feel intuitive. There is no link that can be made in the player's mind between switching item in the inventory and doing that. On top of that, the scrollwheel isn't actually that accessible on most mouses, and pretty much breaks the flow. Depending on users, the finger used for the scrollwheel can be the index just like your use case, and it so requires the player to put their hand off the left click button that they need to access before and after using the scrollwheel. I'd really recommend finding an alternative input for that.
Wow! Incredible work you've done here, I love the discoveries panel and the step detection is a nice touch too! I love the memories too, think it can create some real nice moments, maybe the nearer to the memory you are, a sound could be played to do with it, and as you walk away or the memory stops it fades out? The fact you can fit so much content in a short video is mind-boggling, we need a tutorial for that!
Thank you Saul! Oh that sound idea is awesome, it would add so much hearing what happens in the memory! Hahah tbh I pretty much just copy Miziziziz's format lol
This game looks really nice and well programmed, and I'm so exited to see how far this project can go. I think it would be fun if you could take small rocks from the ground to either block or damage enemies so you could do some sick combos.
THE LEGENDARY DEVLOG THAT TRIGGERS FEAR AND HAS EPIC INTRO MUSIC IS BACK! seriously though, great video! You should consider adding something to the machine ruins and robots that allows you to collect info on them as well! like an "about" memory card that contains stuff like where they were made, what company made them, what they were made for, etc.
Haha thanks! That's definitely interesting, I hadn't really thought about explicitely showing information for the machines/robots but that could definitely make the story & exploration more interesting. Not sure yet if that sort of information would be better told explicitly or through environmental storytelling
