    Wipes and sanitizing spray are essential for coach passengers. I did Chicago to Salt Lake City last summer, 32 hours plus 2 hour delay, which was nothing compared to the 10 hour delay getting to Chicago (but I had the family bedroom to myself on the way out).

    • @mattsmoments2
      @mattsmoments2  ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Very well-done and well-researched video! You are a travel warrior doing that trip in coach! So tired of the endless sleeper car reviews. But I wished you had documented your onboard experience a bit more. More about the food, more about how you managed to sleep on the journey, more about your time interacting with people in the lounge car. Well, maybe next video!

    hi! i was wondering what were some issues you've dealt with on coach (the people, did you sleep well, etc). i plan on traveling from maryland to oregon on coach... i just wanted to know what i'll be getting myself into lol!

    • @mattsmoments2
      @mattsmoments2  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So the people can be interesting. You got your train jumpers/homeless type, good people that respect others, and then as for the seats you just gotta find that sweet spot to sleep. I can typically sleep anywhere so I had no troubles. All meals are on your dime and if you want a spot in the sightseeing car you gotta start early usually. I hope it’s a good adventure for you.

    • @michelleedwards2636
      @michelleedwards2636 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      In coach I recommend bringing your own food,snacks, drinks, blankets, pillows and hope the seat next to you is unoccupied for more sleeping room. In 1993 I went from San Bernardino, California Denver, Colorado and back in coach. It was fine for me back then . But if I went by train now, I would definitely get at least a roomette.

    If you do the Empire Builder from or to Portland, you don’t go through the seven-mile Cascade tunnel.
    I rode the Empire Builder in 2005 with my dad, sister and brother-in-law for my dad’s 65th high school reunion in Austin.

  • @NickP16
    @NickP16 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    The Empire Builder actually never entered glacier national Park. It only skirts the southern border.
    And you missed another major airport along the Empire Builder route. Minneapolis St. Paul is a major airport.
    I’ve stayed at the Izaak Walton Inn twice. It’s a great place with a lot of railroad Memorabilia. The only downside right now with that property is about a year ago. It was sold from a private owner to the corporation. So they closed it down last summer and are remodeling the whole thing. We have no idea exactly what it’s going to be like under a corporation ownership. How much it’s going to change from the nostalgia of the place to a modern hotel
    Other than that good video. I’ve taken the trip many times in both directions. Love the Empire builder.

      As for tea/coffee. You can use one of those little 300 watt kettles or immersion heater to plug in at your seat.. Can also use it for instant noodles/ breakfast oatmeal etc. You can take those mini-moos that don't need to be refrigerated or dry milk powder etc. The electric water heater is even talked about on the Amtrak website on one of their "traveler blogs" so they can't really claim they are not allowed.
