    What's good about the Essex junction train station is that the Burlington city buses (bus #2 I believe it is) goes to this train station and can take you into the city.

    I'm heading to Vermont by train mid October with my mom and brother. Hopefully there is some foliage left for us. Great video I wanted to know what the train would look like when we board it from Philadelphia

    For the question about the delays, a lot of those are due to the flooding that occured in Vermont in July. Many wash outs along the Roxbury Sub south of Essex Junction.
    Also, AMTK 100 "Midnight Blue" is one of the Amtrak 50th Aniversery locomotives. Just interesting to see it up here again in VT. Seems like all fall we had 145 for special power

    What made you choose the Vermonter over the Ethan Allen Express? Also, the speed restrictions on the Vermonter are due to severe flooding in July that damaged many miles of tracks. There's been progress, but it's pretty slow overall

    • @mattsmoments2

      I chose it out of random over the Ethan Allen Express. I’m sure i’ll take the other one day.
      Thank you for the info on the speed restrictions

      see more of the state, and more towns/train stations. plus the Vermonter is just better.

      @@jimfrisk688 Ethan Allen Express is more useful for many areas in Chittenden County (including Burlington) as it's an hour faster to get to NYC. For Vergennes, Middlebury, Rutland, and Castleton, it's the only train service. Each serves a different purpose; I wouldn't categorize one as better than the other.

    The Ethan Allen express has amazing views of lake Champlain . It’s the much more scenic train and much more direct shorter to nyc

    • @charliesullivan4304

      It's track by track, not state by state according to how tight the curves are, the standard it's maintained to, etc. There are 79 mph sections in VT. And the flood damage that caused delays on this trip have been fixed.

      I’d say left side as you face forward. It’s kind of a mix as the route weaves back and forth over the rivers. Sometimes it’s on the right side and sometimes the left. I sat on the right and would say give the left a try

    It is EXTREMLY rare to see a BNSF loco. in a CSX train. It's less rare to see a U.P. engine being sent back west.

    Hello - from Norway. Is this 2023? Absolutely unbelievable that a country like the USA can have trains - so out of date. No electricity - speeds like a bicycle, old-fashioned inside and so loud and ugly that you almost have to have a ladder to get into the train. Now you have to speed up train development - you spend 50 years thinking - yet infrastructure is the first priority throughout Europe and Asia.

    • @mattsmoments2
      @mattsmoments2  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Well said. America sucks with train travel. The government doesn’t fully care to change it or Amtrak that has the monopoly on the country. Most places in the world are far more advanced.

      There are a number of reasons why American passenger rail travel lags behind Europe. But, for shorter trips, people simply drive. I know a lot of people who simply don't like dealing with schedules. When they're ready to go, they get in their cars and start driving.
      On the other hand, the U.S. has the most efficient freight rail system. The major freight railroads typically move 1 ton (2,000 lbs) of freight 500 miles on 1 gallon of diesel fuel.
      The railroads serving the West Coast have spent tremendous amounts of money, improving the efficiency of trains moving out of the port facilities. I live near a major UPS shipping hub. It's located next to a major rail line connecting Chicago and Los Angeles.

      Vermont is a very very rural state… no population density…. No demand….. they are lucky to have any train service…. I’m sure there are parts of Norway without any train service at all….

      Vermont has a population off 650,000… there isn’t any way in hell that the us government is funding top class rail for 650,000 people….wouldnt be able to spend billions and billions in Ukraine

    • @lpdude2005
      @lpdude2005 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@brianog5267 In Europe and especially in my country Norway, we have a top train system and subway for the same number of people. We think completely differently - that's probably the situation. We also have cars - but we don't use them in a city center if we don't have to - then we park outside the city and take the fastest train or subway into the city. Billions to Ukraine - We do the same and it is probably the best investment you and we make for the future - even if you don't understand it either - There is something wrong with many people in the USA and partly in other parts of the world. When you don't understand connections - have genetic logic or lack a complete understanding of consequences, you don't understand much either. I have understood that those who support such idiots as Trump have significant deficiencies in their schooling -
