    Your measurement oriented reviews are one of a kind. You explain this esoteric stuff very clearly, even for a less than expert. I’m surprised you haven’t reviewed Sony’s new A7 with true global shutter. I’m really looking forward to that review. A review of the Hasselblad’s X2D, although stills only, would be interesting due to it’s gaining reputation for dynamic range and ultra-calibrated color accuracy, which nobody else measures as well as you do. Thanks for all your great work! Cheers!

      Well, it was A9III with global shutter, not A7. And as mentioned above, it's not released yet. And won't be for few more months. All those reviews around web were made on pre-production cameras. I don't think that any was send, all were given to reviewers for some time at press conferences.

    Always appreciate the work you put into these objective tests. Kudos. I'd like to humbly suggest that you add testing actual resolving power (lpp detail, not pixels) to your test suite. A higher sensor resolution does not always equal more real detail (For example the 8K Sony A1 resolves more real detail than the Ursa Mini 12K) so measurements from an actual resolution chart would be very helpful. To keep a level playing field, you could always use the same super sharp EF lens (Sigma cine primes are sharper than any sensor can resolve) adapted to every other mount.

    Hey Gerald, thanks for doing this, fantastic video. My main complaint with the 6k version when I used it on a couple projects was the forced aspect ratio and crop changes with frame rate. i.e., going from 4k/24p to 4k/120p required either a switch from 16:9 to 2.4:1 and/or a switch from full-frame to S35 crop. It made it a nightmare for composing shots and it was a nightmare for my editor. Have they changed that for this new 8K iteration? It appears you can shoot basically any combination of resolution and frame rate at any aspect and full frame?

    Its an interesting camera to be sure. Flexibility is always going to be desired. I do find it interesting that DJI never lets you disable noise reduction. Several other manufacturers as well. So, we never actually get to find out what the sensor is truly capable of, just close. -2 is not off. You always have to ask why. A guess? The sensor is noisiser than most people would accept with limited knowledge about how cameras actually work. NR is part of a signal chain. Doesn’t matter if its in pre or post. Its almost always there. People assume that a Sony sensor is cleaner than brand X. But the Sony would be running NR in camera and brand X has none in camera. Its a disconnect people have. I honestly wish all manufacturers would allow NR to be disabled. But, its all about marketing.

    • @trym2121
      @trym2121 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I think because pure data noise is really noisy. Every manufacturer have to code algorithm to intepret the data coming from sensor in the first place. Even simpler example is raw photo, it's not really rawest form, just base manufacturer intepretation before they apply some more polishing to jpeg/heif. You don't want people returning the product because they mistook noise with artifacts
      I'd say the analogy is like frozen food or ready made sauce rather than just the ingredients in the initial form with skin, dirt, and all imperfection still intacts.

      Shooting ProRes RAW on these newer cameras is the only way I've seen to completely bypass noise reduction.
      I own an S5 and S5iiX, shooting BRAW, the BMVA applies a very light spatial denoise pass to the image. ProRes RAW, absolutely no noise. I still much prefer a perfectly untouched image as the sensor's pure detail is captured. Expose it high, bring it down in post, noise looks really pleasing anyways if you use the sensor properly.
      Cameras like Fuji have spatial chroma NR cranked to an INSANE level, if you ever get some F-log footage, look at the Cr and Cb channels, blurred into an oil painting. Just give us the option to disable it.

    • @alihammad6318
      @alihammad6318 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ScottBalkum if it's true raw, like prores RAW, the signal is taken straight from the sensor in its raw Bayer pattern and dumped. The computer debayers and does all the processing. Which means it gets to skip all the processing.
      I don't have any experience with these DJI cameras so I cannot say anything on that but likely have some sort of spatial denoise filter running, they just turn it down. Pure, completely unprocessed sensor data is quite noisy even with good light but looks the best imo.

    I was hoping to see the 4D gimbal technology to come down to cheaper lines over time and not go up in price/resolution. 😆

    what a real shame that DJI isn't offering a Ronin-4D-Air, so we can reuse the 9k-Zenmuse air from our Inspire3 .....

    Great Video. Curious, Why did a multi million dollar company need to hire a youtuber do test their sensor? I feel like they would have their own guys to do that? No disrespect, just curious.

    DJI should make a 4D gimbal for my fx30 instead of trying to rope me into a super expensive camera system.

    Only $13,000 and comes with a 17 to 28mm T3 DJI DL mount lens. Get at least 2 of them!

    Gerald, you’re being way too kind. The rolling shutter on this camera sucks! Nobody’s gonna use his camera for sitdown interviews… Their sizzle reel is all about action. If this camera had a global shutter it would be the ultimate.
