Thanks for the review! Honestly, it would have been nice to see MS Office used in the video. I have tried to go to some stores to see how MS Office works on tablets and hybrid laptops. I believe both tablets have to have different versions of Office due to the 500T not being able to handle the full version of Office. Is this correct? Is there anyway you can post a video showing the difference of both versions of Office running on both tablets? Or maybe just post your comments on it?

I'm looking to use art programs such as GIMP, paint tool sai, etc on one of these tablet PC... These seem to be the best of the hours of research I did and I can't decide which would be more practical for my needs, the 500t or the 700t. I do full digital art and would need the best pressure sensitivity and minimal lag.

Hey, do you have maybe also tested the Sony vaio duo 11 already and can compare it to the smart pc pro? I am not sure which hybrid I will buy. In the moment I tend to the smart pc because of the better battery life and the 3G modul.

Hi there. We are not aware of any 500T models being WIDI compatible. Only the 700T. And in the US you have 4 different variations of the 700T. If you google "700T A01US" you will find the Samsung US webpage for the model with WIDI support. On the webpage click Features, then scroll down to Connectivity and you will see WIDI listed.
An excellent review overall, and one that helped me purchase a 500T. One thing to note if anyone is looking for a digital notebook primarily is that the pen lag does not seem to effect desktop apps - using onenote there is no lag compared to the s-note app, but it does take a few seconds to convert handwriting to text if you use that function. Also for drawing sketchbook pro works like a dream even on the atom processor, with the pressure sensitivity being much better than s-draw.
@David Smith all atom powered win 8 tablets are emmc but that still classifies as an SSD. it just isnt an mSATA SSD used in a core i5 tablet

Hi. No, not that we know of. They did have some silver ones on show at the European tech expos, but I think they were prototypes or sold in Europe only.

Hi, yes the 500T will handle everything you throw at it. Obviously the 700T will do things faster, and handle multi tasking and multi window sessions better, but the 500T can do it if you allow it a few seconds. Having lots of browser windows open with Flash content on them may slow the system a bit.
Hi, thanks for watching our video. The Intel Atom processor (Clover Trail) in the Smart PC is newer than the ones used in netbooks. It allows people on a budget to get their hands on a Windows 8 Hybrid PC. It also puts out no heat, so operates cold, and is slimmer and lighter. However, if you need performance and can stretch your budget the Pro 700T will provide a better overall operating experience.
does the key board for the 500t work on the pc pro 700t?
i recently purchased the 500t. i had to return it because of constant disconnecting keyboard issues. after researching about it, it seems MOST users are experiencing this problem, even when they received a replacement keyboard. i would ABSOLUTELY LOVE this machine if the keyboard was no issue. one of my favorite feature was the wacom digitizer. it was so easy and accurate to take notes on. another thing to note is that if you run 1080p youtube vids, it would lag slightly.
Hi, thanks for watching our videos! It depends on what the minimum specifications are for your accounting software. For things like MYOB, yes the 500T will run it, but it will be a bit on the slow side while using the software. So if you don't mind that, then it's great. The Pro 700T will do anything you need without issue or speed compromise.
Hi, thanks for your comments! No, there is no phone function on these. Yes, the 700T is the same as the Pro you mention, but our model has no 3G. Hi, what happend to the 700T with Silver/grey brush colour and 8MP Camera version? are they not releasing that one anymore - the specs f that one where great - i just thought they would release that one rather than th ehorrible black? am thinking of getting one for Lecture in the UK, but i cant seem to be finding anymore information on them - can you please give me some information on that one to please...

Hi TechTest Drives! is the 500T using a 10-finger multi-touch screen??
Just bought the ativ 500T. Not all 500Ts have an SSD. the one I bought has the eMMC(Enhanced MultiMedia Card). The use of eMMC is to lower the power consumption more, however, this means no upgrading of the eMMC. as it is soldered to the board. the only expansion is through the microSD slot. Maybe this will help with some people when deciding.
Hi mate, I am thinking of purchasing the Samsung 500T Smart PC more for personal entertainment, however I would also need it from time to time for business (keeping the books in check) would the 500T allow me to install the accounting program I require, or is it easier to purchase another laptop?

Here in New Zealand we only have blue for the 500T, or black for the 700T Pro. I have seen pictures of white ones, but never seen one for sale.
Hi, thanks for watching our videos. It can do some gaming. Just not the high end demanding games. This is one of the more powerful hybrids available at the moment. If you need something more powerful I suggest an ultrabook, or purpose built gaming laptop.
Hi TechTestDrives, I'm considering between the regular version and the pro version of this product. Sometime my school works require me to open 3 web tabs, and 1 or 2 MS word files at the same time. Other than that, I just use my laptop to watch youtube video ( usually 360p) and gmail. So I want to know which version is better for me. Thank you.
Hey I am planning to buy one of these brothers and got some question if you are willing to answer... I am planning to use it as my primary computer, and usually I keep few MS word excel and pdf tab opened at once while browsing many tabs in my browser and also opened quite number of folder. do you think 500T will survive? I don't mind some lags as long is not frustrating enough.
@Xavier Chavarría the "laptop" guts are in the tablet so there is no difference in hardware when docked or undocked. you are only removing the keyboard, that is it. so ues it is full windows 8 while i tablet mode and yes windows 8 has apps

Hi, it's about the same amount of heat. The vents and fans on the back do a good job.
Do you think either of these could be a full laptop replacement? Salesman at BestBuy was trying to convince me that I could replace my laptop with the 500T....but I am skeptical. I am looking to replace my 2 year old Dell laptop and want to get a tablet. THANKS!
how loud is the fan in the pro? or how loud does it get when using ptograms requiring more processing power? And how hot? I'm planning on buying a i5 tablet for university but want it to be as quiet as possible! thanks. great comparison btw
I think You are doing a very good job, I just wish You would do a series on Asus Vivo Tab TF810c and a direct comparison between the Vivo Tab, Envy x2 and the Ativ Tab...

Hi, thanks for watching our videos! On both the 500T and 700T we can get the pen recognised to all 4 edges without problems. Toggling a 1080p video has no lag and is immediate.
Good video. Seems to me like the 500t is more along the lines of a higher power tablet, while the 700t heads more towards a convertible touch ultrabook, in terms of price and power.
Hi, i got a question about the webcam, i need a lightweight portable laptop for school. i need a laptop that could record video (facing the teacher) and take notes at the same time. i know window 8 got this new multi-task function. can the 700T support that? i cant find any videos that really talk about the webcam and what it could really do.
Hi, we don't use the screen sharing function in Skype. However, there are two versions of Skype available for Windows 8. The one that comes pre loaded on Windows 8 machines is the "Skype for Windows 8" mini app. Its a very basic, less functional version, we don't like it. The second one is called "Skype for Windows Desktop" and can be downloaded from the Skype website, and is the fully functional version most people are familiar with.
Hi, the 500T operates the same as any other Windows machine. It runs a full version of Windows 8. So if you can run the software you use on a computer with an Atom 1.8GHz CPU with 2GB RAM, then your answer is yes. I'm sure it can, but it will be slow, especially with multiple windows and apps open. I'd recommend the Pro 700T.

Hi, thanks for watching our videos. For basic computer usage, like browsing the internet, watching online videos and MS Office the 500T will be perfectly suitable. It just takes a few seconds longer to do some tasks. The Pro 700T is designed for people that need high performance and use more demanding programs or run several programs all at the same time.
how well does the 500T run programs such as photoshop and solidworks?
Thanks watching it now. First impression was like, looks the same, hope it's cheaper and in stock! I can't get the ativ pro any where right now. The surface pro price is awesome but microsoft have failed miserably with the fluffy keyboard design. You need such a huge flat surface to use it!
Pen preformance wise, how does the 500t galaxy note 10.1?
Hi, thanks for watching our videos! As far as we are aware, they all do. Are you sure it was an ATIV Smart PC? The pen does blend in with the body colour very well, so you might need to double check you didn't overlook it.
Sorry, I want to ask for a slight clarification on your response. Does the 500T model have WIDI? I really like the price and battery life on the 500T model. I've seen conflicting reports online from individuals that seem to not even own the units or know what they're talking about. You obviously have this unit, and you know what you're talking about. If it does... I'm racing out to get it right now.

Hi, thanks for watching our videos. The 500T will be able to do everything you want. The 700T Pro will do the tasks faster with less lag time, and allow more advanced editing functions. Although it is a 64GB SSD drive, it only has about 40GB free once Windows is fully setup. However, it has a micro SD card slot built into the tablet that allows you to easily expand the storage up to an additional 64GB.
The upcoming Microsoft Surface Pro, will have the same "inside" specs as the ATIV Pro, but I guess it will be cheaper, and it will have some interesting new features like the keyboard.
Which one do you think it's better?

Hi. Hybrid PCs don't have CD drives. Most laptop manufacturers are fazing them out from all laptop devices due to the improvements in downloadable software and USB flash drives.
2Mpixel front (web-cam) 5Mpixel (camera) rear - just been checking the specs myself on the Aussie Samsung site. Sorry I can't post the link in TH-cam (thanks to d/head spammers) but search for XE700T1C-A02 then click on the Tech Specs tab ;)
Do any of these Windows 8 systems support WIDI or Miracast for a second display? That's a feature that, as a teacher, I would really appreciate when I'm using it.
I would suggest a gaming laptop, but most Ultrabooks run the same Intel HD 4000 up until 1000... there are a few below that with a better GPU but not many. Razer edge might be a good alternative if he wants to have a tablet.
Here in New Zealand it comes with the keyboard in the same box. Some countries sell just the tablet and you have to buy the keyboard separately. Check with the person you are buying it from that it comes with the keyboard.
Will the 500T model give me any problems if I want to work with Photoshop and video editing programs? I don't want anything that lags. :/

Hi thanks for watching our videos! The 500T is perfectly capable of doing what you want. If you don't mind it being slower with multiple windows open. The 700T will open and switch between windows and programs much faster, but cost more and is slightly heavier, bigger, and has heat fans. It can be difficult to choose between the two, we like the slim and light feeling and price of the 500T, but also like faster performance of the 700T. Hi, thanks for watching our videos. We think the keyboard dock is very useful. It enables you to use it on your lap, and touch type quickly. It will be difficult to type on the screen keyboard while sitting on a flat surface, it needs to be tilted at an angle. Also it gives you two additional USB ports. We wouldn't buy it without the keyboard dock.

Is it possible to use/download S-Note on a non-Samsung Windows Tablet from the Windows app store, or is it strictly for Samsung customers only?

Everyone's different, we actually like the look and low profile of the black version. Hi there, thanks for watching our videos! The fan noise is noticeable when in Power Mode and you are using multiple programs. However, Samsung has included a great Silent Mode feature which cuts back the performance but makes the fan spin silent. Always hated ATOM processors since I tried it on a netbook long time ago, the ATIV with ATOM is not even that cheap.
I say add extra money and get the i5 version, less lag, less headache, more fun and peace of mind :D
How hot does it get? Does it give as much heat as the Microsoft Surface Pro?
Hi, You won't want the 500T then. Although it can do almost everything, it will have lag on more demanding software programs. Sounds like you should be looking at the Pro 700T, or a laptop.
Hi, the Pro 700T has a 5MP rear facing camera. The 500T has a 8MP rear facing camera with LED flash.
Both can handle Photoshop being installed. The 500T should only be used for very basic editing. The 700T can handle more demanding Photoshop tasks.
Hi, the built-in program for the webcam uses full screen mode, so I don't think you could take notes at the same time. Unless you download a third party program, that should fix it. However, you would need to use it at a 90 degree angle if you want to record video and take notes on it. That would be very uncomfortable. You should just get a cheap flip cam.
is there a big difference in battery life? I'm testing out the 500t now, and I love how I don't have to worry about charging the battery often, but i wish it was faster...
Can you get a Vivo tab and compare it to the Atvi?
I believe that the white version is only available in Microsoft Store or in Korea. Only passing along into I heard else-ware.

Hi, thanks for watching our videos. The devices you mentioned are not comparable to this. The Samsung Smart PC runs a full desktop version of Windows 8 operating system, it is a real computer. The iPad and Note Tab are not full operating system computers.
Hi, can the ram be upgraded if its possible to remove the back cover?
This can play games like Portal and Cod fine on low to med settings, many people are wrong when they say you can't play modern games with Intel HD 4000 and i5 3317u.

So what exactly is the difference between the pro version and the samsung series 7 slate...doesn't seem like much has been accomplished in 2 years...
Its a shame that Samsung doesn't currently offer a desktop dock accessory for the Ativ Smart PC Pro.
Hi, yes the 700T Pro version uses much more battery and lasts around 5-8 hours. It uses a much more powerful Intel Core i5 processor, and runs hotter, and has a full HD screen, and is heavier.
