@ MobileTechReview: Honestly, i just searched TH-cam for a detailed review of this convertible, and the only one it came up with was yours. Your in-depth review worked just perfectly for me. Thank you!
Folks who had problems with the keyboard dock connection sent it back to Samsung and got one in return that worked. Though some folks said their replacement also acted up after several weeks. Ours is a later batch, so I'm not sure the issue has been addressed since it still has problems.
Yes, I comment on the slight grain in the display in our full written review on MobileTechReview. It looks like an anti-glare coating, though there's still plenty of glare.
I think its great that you have reviews of these windows 8 machines that so many so called tech sites seem to be oblivious to. Id love to see a review of the Asus vivo smart, in the thorough unbiased manner that only mobile tech review seems to be able to do.
Me too! I am so impressed with the Envy x2. It handles all the basic tasks I throw at it with insane battery life. In the rare case that I need something more powerful, I have a desktop.
No, I don't consider this the best tablet hybrid currently on the market. But it's a solid choice. Also depends on what you want and need in terms of pen, tablet size, keyboard quality.
It depends...If you already have a PC or laptop, it's all good, the HD4000 is the equivalent to the Nvidea GT630m, which has dedicated memory. I am getting this Hybrid tomorrow, I am so excited!
Thanks for another great review. I thought the info about the Envy Tablet was pretty darn compelling as well as the real use with some typical applications.
I believe it was said that a usb 3 port could not be placed on the keyboard dock due to the connection the dock has with the tablet which cannot transfer usb 3 speeds.
Yes, after the launch of all these Window 8 Pro devices, the excitement of "Tablet PCs" is finally back (since its early years 10 yrs ago). Now we'll see what magic Apple will pull out of their sleeve... hopefully soon (a MacTouch Pro or something, I do believe it's already in development now), then it will really help to push Tablet PC format to the next level.
Then what is it you do consider the best hybrid currently on the market? I know that's a rather open question based on user needs and other things, but what's your opinion? I'm an engineering student looking to replace my wayyy outdated laptop. Thanks, Tyler P.S. I like the new mic you're using.
I chose the 500t based on the battery life, because i want to use it at school and the 700t's battery life is just too short. I am really loving the 500t and as long as you don't do any hardcore computing it performs just fine. Also i haven't had any keyboard problems, i think samsung fixed it.
the one i have right now is Asus EEE Slate (ep121). It is very very good with photoshop and other software but this is considered a last gen tablet now. I need higher resolutions and more storage.
Wow, no ours doesn't get nearly that hot. Mid 90's Fahrenheit when working hard, not 104F like yours! Watch out for cases that block the back vents or the top exhaust vents.
Hi Lisa.. Love the reviews.. I just bought the Samsung Ativ 500t and i must say im really disappointed with it.. It has some major performance issues and alot of minor ones as well.. i think i will be returning it.. Could you maybe recommend an alternative..? I want the the tablet/keyboard transformer style setup, but it could also be an ultrabook.. I like your review of the Lenovo yoga 13.. Im looking for performance, maybe capable off some light gaming.. I have 1000$ to spend.. any ideas..?
Hey Lisa, could you please let everyone know when Samsung fixes the keyboard issues? Or if there is a way to already do it? I am planning on buying one of these but only if the keyboard issue is resolved , thanks for the awesome reviews
I purchased one of these off eBay for $99, with charger, keyboard dock and pen. I saw your video first, and decided to also buy a new keyboard dock, The tablet got here first, and alas it has the dreaded connect, disconnect issue. Have you heard where a new keyboard fixes this problem? I won't know until my keyboard gets here. I also have seen, that the issue is internal, and that you need to clean the dock contacts inside the unit. I won't do that unless, it becomes a dire situation, or until I upgrade the mSATA drive. The performance of the i5 is great, not stellar, but good enough to play some older Steam titles, and some on the fly music production.
you have a point. the processing power is quite interesting in these hydrids but the memory storage can be a bit limiting. I was thinking of getting this for making microsoft office documents as well as some casual and intermediate level gaming (Starcraft2). I am planning to go with the ativ pro or surface pro, with the secondary options being the lower end samsung ativ or the asus vivotab smart. I was wondering what you would recommend in terms of balancing the pricing and capabilities? :]
It handled those tasks fine i didn't notice any lag at all. If i had some more demanding programs (lightroom, photoshop and such) and itunes open I noticed lag.
The keyboard got worse over time? Ouch. Some folks were guessing it might improve with breaking in. Guess not. Send yours back to Samsung for replacement, those who've done that seem to get working keyboards. Then you can sell it for more money and buy the Surface Pro :)
Hi and nice vids!! I really would like to use a pen in the touchscreen, I read the XPS 12 is not good at this, but this Samsung is build very cheap. What would you recommend then? May be wait for a better version of Samsung or Dell XPS with pen?
Super AMOLED displays can't be made this large, actually. And the market for PCs is different than phones. Graphics artists buy Wacom equipped tablets and colors need to be decently accurate.
Do you think this would be a good replacement for cheap and low screen size wacoms? Since even the cheapest wacoms like cintiq and bamboo, still expensive to some because they won't be able to buy a decent laptop that's cheap and good for cheap wacoms. I've seen some artist paint.. but i want to see more.. especially from concept artist that works from big company.
Hey Lisa, I really want to know what do you think is a better choice for a student, the smart pc 500t or the 700t. I'm really in trouble with choosing between these two. The main setback for me with the 500t is that I'm afraid that the processor may be a little too slow. But with the 700t i'm afraid about the battery life. I really want to know your opinion.
Do you have a recommended tablet for graphic artist? I would really like to have something with as much manageable lag as possible, but also good/great battery life. For the most part, I have been leaning towards a Galaxy Note 10.1, but I really want to see what Samsung will produce for this year.
Hello lisa, I'm an 11th grader student and we use PC tablets all the time..and i was searching for a good one that would be fast and extremely easy to use just like the ATIV samsung 700T. do you think it would be the right pc for me? I use mostly windows journal, photoshop, and downloading.
So like any other laptops, isn't the air bent eventually going to be covered with dust? For normal laptops it would not be matter because you can easily disassemble and clean the fan. but since this product is more close to tablet, it might be fairly difficult to do so. I'm wondering if Samsung prepared for the dust or not.
Hey lisa have you tried installing linux on any of these new ultrabooks i was wondering how locked down the bios my newer asus k55 has uefi and i have to disable it so far everything works on it ive been using arch linux with kde as my main os but i have win8 duel booted for games. Maybe to keep things interesting you could do some compatibility testing with other os's in your smack downs
Not sure what you mean, this Tablet is Wacom penabled S-Pen not N-trig..but I am an artist and I'm thinking a high-end laptop i7 & top Graphics card alonside a Wacom Cintiq 13HD is a much better option.. wish there was a tablet made for graphic artists
Great review, thanks! Seems like Surface Pro is still the top choice for me. As for its battery life, I believe some third party (if not Microsoft themselves) will come up with a Bar-battery or some sort that attaches to the Pro & extent batt life another 3-5hr... that would be a dream come true. ;P
I think the tablet (CPU) is a fine unit. I properly registered my products (A04 and matching keyboard). The keyboard suffers from the constant disconnect problem. Samsung has sent me an e-mail in response to my claim for warranty repair stating that, Yes, this is still under warranty. However, despite my frequent prodding Samsung has not sent me a RMA number. They don't even answer my e-mail anymore. I expect a much more professional approach to and resolution of this problem. 2-stars!
Now you say heavy duty applications...I'm no computer expert and trying to figure out if it the HP envy X2 processor is enough for me. I do not do any hard core gaming, mostly I will be returning to college for grad school and I like to watch a lot of movies/tv shows on my current laptop. Any suggestions for me??
please lisa please make a full review of asus memo pad smart 10 please make a full review of it and smackdown between this and asus transformer pad tf300t please....
hello i was just wondering what is the size of simcard i can use with this device regular sim is too large and microsim is too tiny HELP plz btw i love ur reviews they help me allot with my devices t.c.
what would you class as hardcore computing ? .... i tend to have a couple of chrome tabs up and itunes ..... is that enough to notice excess lagging/processor maxing etc ?
Hi Lisa, could u tell me whether the Series 7 slate has full gestures & full drivers compatible for running windows8 ? because i once update my slate but the gestures (3 & 5 figures touch pop-up) on windows7 has gone, although i updated the drivers from the samsung website. Thanks for the review.
Hi Lisa! what pens works perfectly wtíth samsung ativ pro? I want a longer one than the one that comes with the samsung ativ, and do you think it is better to have an eraser on top of the pen? love from sweden :)
what's wrong with it ? does the connection drops several times ? did you install intel wireless software program before the problem existed ? if so uninstall it
I have one of these and its OK, its remaining space on purchase is way too low. the locking mechanism on the dock can come undone easy when travelling. I think its too heavy. In retrospect i should have gone for the atom version as there is not enough space to make use of the I5 with applications and the battery life isn't enough to use the device as a tablet.
Hi Lisa, Does it have wifi connection problem? I looked on Samsung forum page and some people have problem with this device keeping disconnect from wifi.
For anyone that has this, is the tablet comfortable to write on? I had a previous tablet (10.1)that was rather thick (like this) and didn't have tapered sides. I'm thinking this would be better since the screen is bigger and it has tapered edges. Trying to weigh the cost and usability benefits between this, 500t, and surface pro and this info would help out since the 700t is the only one I can't test out.
Thankyou for your review, I am looking for a 10inch tablet specifically for music to attach to my mic stand, it must be full windows based 128 gig must have good sound and usb hubs preferably 2 I don't need the key pad. Are you able to give me a list please
the photoshop demo gave me the conclusion: "NO, THIS ISN'T THE RIGHT TABLET FOR ME".. Neither is Sony Vaio Duo.. I really like these spec wise, but Wintab drivers really need to be supported fully by N-Trig and Samsung... :'(
hey lisa,,can u recommend me a laptop,,i want awesome multimedia experience,,movies and internet surfing are my only needs,,i want amazing display,,awesome sound pls reply looking forward to hearin from u
*Best thing I’ve bought myself in a while. **Newest.Technology** Love it*

Glad to hear it and yes the Samsung gets huge points for artists since it ships with WinTab drivers.
You're welcome :) Thanks for watching!

The 700T is one of the few tablets with WinTab support.
I had this tablet, I loved it. The keyboard dock didn't disconnect at all, it never did. I guess I got lucky.
Thanks for another great review. I thought the info about the Envy Tablet was pretty darn compelling as well as the real use with some typical applications.

true, built quality from the hp envy x2 and i5/i7 and if poss. with dedicated graphic would be my dream machine. as always great review lisa.
If you install an Android VM or Bluestacks you can install and run Android apps.

Yes we have a new Sony mic. Sounds better, yes?

There's no saying if Dell will make an XPS with a digital pen in the near future.
the one i have right now is Asus EEE Slate (ep121). It is very very good with photoshop and other software but this is considered a last gen tablet now. I need higher resolutions and more storage.
GREAT information about the keyboard!! it is good to know about it rather than having to deal with it later..
Wow, no ours doesn't get nearly that hot. Mid 90's Fahrenheit when working hard, not 104F like yours! Watch out for cases that block the back vents or the top exhaust vents.
I would say so, yes. Mostly the sound stage has greatly improved.
Great review , I have read in some sites this device has built in widi, does it? Keyboard have lights?
Hi Lisa.. Love the reviews.. I just bought the Samsung Ativ 500t and i must say im really disappointed with it.. I already sold mine for the Surface Pro do it man its worth it!
Which model did you get? A01, A02, A03, or A04? I'm not sure I caught it if you mentioned it in your review.
great review, what are your top 3 win 8 tablets that come wit a sim card slot for 3G/4G. thanks

You got the 500T, completely different to the 700T, why are you asking for an alternative?
How is the cooling on the tablet? especially under load and also when playing 3d heavy games?
Watching it on my new envy x2........and I'm lovin' it!
An XPS with a digital pen would be killer. Especially if that XPS 18 has anything to say about it!
I think the tablet (CPU) is a fine unit. I properly registered my products (A04 and matching keyboard). The keyboard suffers from the constant disconnect problem.

what pens works perfectly wtíth samsung ativ pro?
I want a longer one than the one that comes with the samsung ativ, and do you think it is better to have an eraser on top of the pen?

If I had a choice, I would definitely get the Asus TX300 over this.
thank you for the review
Hey Lisa, how is the video camera quality? Thanks.

ATIV Smart PC Pro 700T VS samsung note 10.1 2014 ediition wifi 32gb ?
lol, sounds like PC vs calculator
Hi Lisa, Does it have wifi connection problem? I looked on Samsung forum page and some people have problem with this device keeping disconnect from wifi.
I am having difficulty finding the series 7 pen. I tried Samsung site and nothing. Any ideas? Thank you. And thanks for the video. :)

wich of these tablets would be the best to run indesign, dreamweaver, illustror, photoshop and would be the best to draw with?
Is this the best Samsung ATIV model?
Thankyou for your review, I am looking for a 10inch tablet specifically for music to attach to my mic stand, it must be full windows based 128 gig must have good sound and usb hubs preferably 2 I don't need the key pad. Are you able to give me a list please

the photoshop demo gave me the conclusion: "NO, THIS ISN'T THE RIGHT TABLET FOR ME".. Neither is Sony Vaio Duo.. I really like these spec wise, but Wintab drivers really need to be supported fully by N-Trig and Samsung... :'(
is the battery replaceable?
They need to make a tablet like the HP Envy x2 but with an Intel i3 processor for us people that want more than an Atom but don't need the i5
40 celcius is nothing to be worried about, and the heat you are feeling is from the processor.
m gonna buy 3 of these.
can you download apps besides programs?
How many mAh is the battery?
hey lisa
can it run the windows 7 programs ??
Did you have a laptop Windows7
hi lisa, does the 500t have a 3G or 4G?
Can you connect a mouse to this thing?
Lisa says so at about 11:30
IM DIEING TO KNOW CUZ I CANT FIND OUT ANYWHERE, WHAT IS THE WACOM SENSITIVITY OF THE STYLUS? 1024 OR 2000+?
how do you fix the brightness control buttons?
if u update to 8.1 and brightness get rekt, just download SW Update from samsung official site and instal brightness fix
Yes, send the keyboard to Samsung, though they might still make you send the tablet in with it *sigh*
I think I have a fake... 700T -_- It seems we don't have the same notebook. Is there differents type of 700T ?
Oh ! Maybe it's because it's not a pro, one.

Great review thx
anybody knows if you can use the 700t with a 500t keyboard dock?
