    I've been trying to hunt down a review that looks at the functionality of the pressure sensitivity of these tablet PCs. This has been incredibly helpful, thank you so much! I hope the Pro version of the Samsung Ativ will be less laggy than this one, because other than that it looks fantastic!

    wow, this video really open my eye. Didn't know how much different an x86 processor is compare to arm. So exciting for new generation of intel processor later this year. Finally great power, great battery, great x86 app in a light weight form factor is coming! My dream PC!

    The really interesting thing will imo be when Ativ Smart pc Pro comes out on the market, I really think that device will hit the spot for people like me who wants more portable laptop, but still wants hardware that can run big programs- both for drawing and light gaming.
    Hope you will do a new video when that comes out, comparing the Pro version with the Fujitsu T902, seeing as thats the two options I am trying to choose from :)

    Thanks, Shog, for this review, is the best one I've seen of Windows 8 devices from the art point of view.
    You tested extreme size brushes, but I think it would be also interesting to see how a medium size one, for instance a 100 px brush (some of us seldom use bigger ones), behave in an Atom device.
    Are you planning to review other Windows 8 Atom tablet pc's with active digitizer (Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet II, Asus Vivo Tab, Dell Latitude 10, HP Envy 2,...)?
    Again, thank a lot for your review.

    Hovering is part of Wacom EMR tech so yes. ATIV Smart PC is a Windows PC, so it does true multi windows multi tasking in desktop mode.

    This is a fair review for the most part. But common sense tells you the more fluid experiences will be with the more powerful machine. For those who came to get info on the note, it is really an astoundingly good experience considering you are drawing on an android tablet. It is the best out there sub jumping to a convertable slate device. Sketchbook pro has made some decent updates and I can get concept work done pretty well on the note. And apps are coming that turn it into a cntiq over wifi

    I still love my Samsung note 10.1. You took it out of the equation! : ( No, seriously, I am just a casual doodler so the note does me just fine. I also love the Google play store and Android in general. If you're a serious artist, yes the AVIV or Fijitsu definitely makes more sense. Thanks for this very informative video. Cheers!

    The nature of these pens dictate that the best pen accuracy is achieved by keeping the pen vertical. However, you can keep a small cursor to indicate where the pen will make a mark. You will get very use to not worrying about the discrepancy between where the pen tip is and where the cursor is.

  • @Shogmaster
    @Shogmaster  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    I didn't record it, but 100 pixel brushes were also slow enough that you had to really couldn't interact with the brush stroke. You had to make the stroke, watch the result, and make another stroke based on that result.
    I'm going to test out the ATIV Smart PC Pro as soon as it's available in LA.

    I just bought the T902 today after suffering your same dilemma. I picked it up from computer upgrade king. It's a much better deal. I think I paid 2169 for 16gb of Ram, two 120gig SSDs, one of them mSATA and Windows 8 Pro. Pretty awesome deal IMO. The screen size is 1600 x 900 which sealed the deal. The T732 is a lousy 1366 x 768, otherwise I would have gotten it. For Ai or PS you need the power of the T902.

  • @john-vercalamaya2931
    @john-vercalamaya2931 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    thanks to this video... I've decided (and did) to buy the fujitsu lifebook t902... and what a deal! I was able to draw in photoshop with ease(P.S, Wacom offers tablet pc drivers)... and it's powerful enough to run (not-so-demanding) games like league of legends.... overall, I like it. a good cintiq alternative IMO...

  • @Shogmaster
    @Shogmaster  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you want something close to Cintiq 24HD in pen feel and responsiveness, you would only be happy with ATIV Smart PC Pro, which is a Core i5 machine. I just picked one up yesterday and will be testing it out during my week long vacation in the east coast.

  • @Shogmaster
    @Shogmaster  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    The palm rejection only works when the pen tip is within about 1cm or so from the screen surface, so I did find myself having my palm making marks or touching buttons when I approached the screen palm first. You really have to train yourself to go pen first to avoid this...
    With my T902, when I draw I simply turn off the touch in control panel. Easy to do. But with the ATIV SPC Pro, the only way to do it I found was a Samsung app that made you log off every time you turned touch on and off...

    Nice to see a review from someone who knows what he's talking about. So one question, i'm considering to buy the ATIV Smart PC as a replacement of my ipad on and a light "mobile cintiq". But I've heard that the palm rejection of the Ativ ( and Ativ pro ) is not that good and it keeps up detecting the hand instead of the pen... could you please tell a few words about that? Is it true or does it only occurs if the pen is moved out of the detection range of the wacom emr?

  • @indigosunset70
    @indigosunset70 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    hey Shogmaster. thanks for the upload. but i want to mention something. in the samsung S pens, under the button, there is a tiny screw which you can turn with a tiny screwdriver, and doing so you can calibrate the pressure sensitivity of your drawn lines. This is true for the Samsung Note 8.0 tablet. Strangely enough, the 12.2 Note Pro's S pen does not have any pressure sensitivity at all! i removed the button on the 12.2 S pen and discovered the calibration screw is not there and the S pen has zero touch sensitivity. i should mention i bought the 12.2 s pen seperate from the tablet so it may be a cheap knock off.

  •  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Found out the trick behind it (after wrecklessly diving in and buying one lol) the Smart PC (full windows 8) will shut down touch once the pen tip is close enough to the screen when you see the air curser pop up. its occasionally finicky but with some updates I am sure it will get much better :D

  •  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Dumb question but I just want verification, was that Win8 Pro or RT? I never liked Atom or 'ULV' cores and that factor would make me shy away from Win8 tablets in general :(
    Also, does Win8 have a way to shut down the 'touch' side of things so it only registers pen touch, like the Dell XT series? or is that only an N-Trig thing? I do a lot of art on the go and I'm guilty of palmresting and other rogue touching while sketching; the last thing I want are rogue lines or phantom actions/executions.

    If I may ask, have you ever tried to use the Ativ Pro in a Cintiq like fashion by connecting it to a higher end PC as a secondary display? I'm considering buying one as I can't afford a LIFEBOOK and I'd like the portability of one of these tablets, but without the extra processing power, I'll probably go with a Cintiq 13HD.

  • @Shogmaster
    @Shogmaster  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    The CPU difference is minor. It's the LCD resolution difference that made me spend more on the T902. If you are OK with 1366x768, X230T is a fine choice. I wanted 1600x900 of the T902.

    Shog, I bit and ordered the Atom ATIV. I am a casual artist and think it will do well... I currently have a Samsung Note 10.1, and like it a lot, but really wanting a little more screen size and also want OneNote. My question: which art app do you think is best suited for the Atom ATIV? I noticed that Painter12 responded to 2 finger rotation but seems constrained by memory. I tend to like watercolor & comic styles, so that factors into the application I purchase. Is ArtRage a good substitut

    hey, do you also have problems with the pen.(with samsung ativ samrt pc pro) the "circle rightklick animation"? if its on, i cant work. the strokes are fat. if i turn it off, then i can only make points with the brush. and allway i change the brush or the tool, i have to klick the taskbar and then klick the photoshop windows- after this stupid process it changes the brush or tool... but if i change with the finger, its normal...some strange shit is going on on this tablet...

    the note 8.0 should fit your needs perfectly, it has the same resolution screen as the 10.1 (1280 x 800) but since the screen is smaller you get a higher ppi. it is also equipped with a 1.6Ghz quad-core pocessor for the power and the S pen for your drawing needs

    What do you think about the screen surface of a Wacom touch tablet? I have the Ativ Smart PC and its my first Wacom enabled tablet, Im so used to paper and pencil that the smooth screen is a little on settling for me in terms of nuance. to you know if any screen protectors exists that can mimic the paper like texture?

    The only cheaper full voltage alternative to T902 are running 1366x768 or 1280x800 LCD resolutions, which might be too cramped for Maya's UI...
    T902 is certainly best case scenario with it's 1600x900 LCD. It only has Intel HD4000 GPU, but I don't know how much GPU impacts Maya's work flow...

    $64,000 question... I can't find it anywhere and no one has any idea when to expect it. Originally it was 17th on Newegg, but now they don't say when so I don't know. I want to get it from a store with no restocking fee return policy so I can do a test on it before deciding between Pro and regular Smart PC. $600 vs $1200 is a big decision, and since I already have a really fast Tablet PC, $600 Smart PC might be a better choice for me.

    I like how informational you video is but there are some things that are making you lose viewers. Such as, no music...Music in the background is really helpful and makes it seem more polished. Another thing is um and en and pauses. Just calm down, take it slow and edit the videos if you have long gaps of silence. The silences also make the video longer which most people don't like. Introduction screen saying what you are talking about. Audio helps but audio and video helps a whole lot more. Hope I can help :)
