Congrats to James on his first steelhead! You better start bringing the big net Dan😁. I know light weight trout gear throws a big curve ball into everything though so nicely done landing it.
My son hooked a big red side this summer, and I got too anxious to net it and ended up spooking it and he broke off. He was so mad I thought he would never forgive me haha, I learned a lesson its best to be patient when netting a big fish.
James gets pretty ramped up for sure (like I do) - it was his first steelhead on the fly, so I totally get it! I'm just glad I kept my cool and got er in the net :)

Depending on the size of the stream - I have used my 7wt and 8wt 9' single hand fly rods
