The big thing you're looking at 2:00 is an Archimedes Screw - it constantly turns as the water flows over it - and is used to generate electricity - with a fish pass (ladder) next to it to replicate a shallow-flow stretch to allow the fish to swim up it. They're incredibly effective. We put both in on my local farm a few years ago as it had a mill with a weir. Great session btw - love to see it mate 🎣
7:47 That trout has a fungal infection, it can happen because of poor handling or simply when it reaches the end of its life cycle and it becomes weak, it's also really common with salmon especially thorwards the end of the season when most fish are done spawning and at the end of their life cycle.
It is a possibility, but it might be skin "burns", they live in really cold waters, it is possible that this trout were caught and handled by a fisherman, and the difference between trout and fisherman hand's temperature makes fish skin "burn" and leaves those white marks, but again its not 100%.
Still a fun day and to run onto the boys was awesome. Should said let’s fish a bit together. Still a fun watch and thanks. Mountains are full of snow now so time to switch to lake and pond fishing. Have a great rest of the year
The sea trout, that looks like furunculosis or UDN, ulcerative dermal necrosis, which was very common in the late sixties and seventies. It decimated stocks and some rivers never recovered.
Ill give you a tip, rod tip straight up with a strikes always. Everyone tries to do fancy sideways stuff, and it often pulls the lure from the mouth. Simple mechanics and it will improve hook ups. Works better with pike also
It's an Archimedes Screw that generates HydroElectric. They destroy fish so the grill at the end keeps the large fish out.The fish in fungus has Saprilignia Spa - That's the name of the fungal infection but I'm not certain of the spelling. Great Series.
Here in South Wales fishing the Lougher we catch Salmon, Sewing, Bass and Flounder all on red flying-c’s. Only difference being is technique for the Flounder. That’s an Archimedes screw which was invented over two thousand years ago to lift water.
Great stuff with the kids. Here in NZ we use big 30gm spoons for the Salmon. Let it sink to the bottom and slowly bring it in keeping it as close to the bottom as you can without getting it snagged.

The "big propeller" is an Archimedes Screw that will move water uphill, so to speak. Ingenious invention from so long ago.
