That 2GR V6 is prob the strongest and longest living motor on the market. It started life back in 2006. This is the best all around SUV Money can buy. Hands down and you looking at 10 plus years of ownerships
That V6 is a superbly designed engine. Port and direct injection for fuel economy, reliability and power. Smooth, creamy power delivery. Sounds great, no turbos to worry about, easy to service, used across the Toyota and Lexus lineup.
Aviation Direction I don’t think there is anything wrong with older technology sometimes: halogens get warm and melt ice & snow and that’s something LEDs don’t do
I own an SUV for winter and bad weather driving and a fancy car for summer fun. I currently have a 2014 Highlander XLE which I bought new. It's the most dependable vehicle I have ever owned. This week I ordered a 2020 Highlander Platinum. I went with the Platinum because the 2020 XLE doesn't come with as much tech included as the 2014 did. I did opt for the glazed caramel interior because it's beautiful and reminds me of a Maserati Ghibli I used to have. Sure, the Hyundai Palisade or Kia Telluride do look great but, with my family having owned both of these brands in the past, I simply have little confidence in the workmanship or reliability of Hyundai or Kia lasting much beyond a year or two.
The removal of the physical shifter, with detents, is one of the biggest pet peeves that I have with modern vehicles. Manufacturers like to say that buttons and rotary dials save space, but it's about saving the cost of the shifter assembly, the leather shift boot, leather on the knob etc.
I own a 2019 Limited that i am satisfied with. I am very impressed with how quite the 2020 is and is telling when you are explaining the features of this SUV. I can't even hear any wind or tire noise as you drive.

They sure did! I read an article about this vehicle and it suggested that the Telluride and Palisade might have something to worry about with this new model.
Joel lopez you are right, I would go for Toyota bc of brand reliability, the thing is Kia and Hyundai have a bad reputation where I live (which is not USA) they are part of a group called “excel automotriz” and the cars are not that reliable and to make it worse they have the worst car shops
When is Toyota going to make a new Sienna! We absolutely love ours and no SUV out there has the room and comfort of the minivan. My wife said we will keep buying them at this rate as we love it!
New sienna will be released in 2020 as MY2021. I already saw it in person in Vegas a few months ago next to this 2020 Highlander, though the Sienna was heavily camouflaged.
The battery pack doesn't need a warranty. It's the hybrid specific braking system that you should be worried about because WHEN it fails, you WILL rear end someone. Don't doubt me, it WILL fail. It's a known issue on almost every hybrid and none of the manufacturers are addressing it.
Looks like a pretty good family hauler. It's no Subaru WRX, but i guess you could say I'm kind of a FAN of those. The cameo had me laughing so hard I almost cut myself shaving.
That montage is super premium and the retro style music really fits great. Sell that clip to Toyota for their ads or something. This seems a solid vehicle too but if I needed this many seats I would get a Minivan or if I need to haul or tow I would get a truck.
Very through and informative review. Question for you and others is WHY is it that Toyota STILL makes you go all the way up to the Premium Line to get the parking sensors (park assist audible alarms that go off when getting close to objects)? Seriously- this is an important feature that once you have, you can never go back and a camera will only let you see what you'e about to hit vs warn you to stop or slow up. I've heard that it can be added on for like 500$ but not sure as this is so new.
Its a cost thing. Changes to bumper designs and all the associated wiring etc. Also as great as they are add a ton of cost to repair jobs if you get nailed and also have more calibration to deal with. Im sure it will be on everything Toyota makes in 5 years.
I think Toyota made a huge mistake on the top Limited trim with the HVAC controls in the touch display. The XLE still has the dedicated analog dials and buttons which is the best for families. The Palisade does infotainment way better IMO along with better 3rd row access, so Highlander will be a tough sell this time around.
I feel like the tach dispaly and imfotainment are for a small group who will mess with it and explore the settings.i just dont see mom or the ditze who drives with turn signal on messing with displays. Most just turn key and go.
Physical buttons, solid interior, long term toyota reliability. All around a nice car for someone wanting a long term vehicle. Definitely buy a lightly used one to save on depreciation as well. Side note: had a friend looking between a range rover and a rav 4. He wanted to keep it for a long, long time. I'm glad he went with the Rav 4.
You buy this not for styling, not for the infotainment, but because you’ve been burned one too many times for repairs and maintenance on something else. This is the vehicle you’ll eventually just get tired of way before it’s physically worn out.

Excellent introduction video. I really appreciate your attention to detail and you don't waste time talking about minor points, you get to the heart of the matter and that helps my buying decisions. Thanks for what you do in the auto video review space...
Mark, I'm sure this isn't your favorite segment. I appreciate you making the most of it and trying to put yourself into the shoes of others who might be interested in this segment like myself. Focusing on what may be points of interest for those type of viewers. keep up the good work. never stop improving.

Watched the intro montage and 'totally' had a mid-eighties flashback of the rolling credits of "Electric Dreams" running through my mind. Think I only watched the move once when I was maybe 8.. now it jumped out at me..
"We'll always be together, however far it seems. We'll always be together, together in electric dreams."
The things tucked away back in ye olde memory banks... I swear...
The Hybrid is a unique selling point in this segment.
Mgoblagulkablong yeah. It’s so interesting that the least sporty vehicles that Americans buy are also the last to receive the eco treatment. People buying sedans or small cars probably care more about performance than SUV buyers do
highlander hybrid platinum is pretty much the same price as a palisade limited. Hybrid has a giant mpg advantage over the Palisade
10mpg better than v6 is very compelling
After driving this new model, would you still pick this over the Pilot in terms of driving dynamics and handling?
It’s a great vehicle. But we needed space and true SUV/truck power and 4x4 so we went with the Sequoia Platinum.
Your production and editing quality are off the charts plus your no BS reviews on cars is why i subbed to your channel a year ago and have loved every single video. Keep up the great work!! Oh and i loved that intro song. Could anyone tell me the artist?
That 2GR V6 is prob the strongest and longest living motor on the market. It started life back in 2006. This is the best all around SUV Money can buy. Hands down and you looking at 10 plus years of ownerships
What about the 1MZ-FE? Wasn’t that the basis for the 2gr eventually ?
Hell if you really wanna you could do 20 years😂
That V6 is a superbly designed engine. Port and direct injection for fuel economy, reliability and power. Smooth, creamy power delivery. Sounds great, no turbos to worry about, easy to service, used across the Toyota and Lexus lineup.
@D R Hmm.. I must have missed the sliding door... ?
The front end screams Subaru
Actually the front end screams 2015 model of the Highlander. Surely Toyota knows this--almost a direct copy.
Except the grill on this is that ugly big mouth bass look.
does not. Looks like rhe RAV4 which looks like the 4runner
@@kamX-rz4uy I see it as a nose
Agree 100%. People are morons if they don't see a Subaru influence in the front grill. I particularly enjoyed the open maw on previous generations.
Very few car reviewers offer the level of quality and info on new vehicles on the same level as SavageGeese. Keep up the good work!
Congrats @300K. We'll be here when you make 1M, 5M... Thank you for all you do guys.
Oh look, only took 15 years to get rid of halogens.
Aviation Direction cruel but true
Aviation Direction I don’t think there is anything wrong with older technology sometimes: halogens get warm and melt ice & snow and that’s something LEDs don’t do

James Yep, I already did. 👍🏻 I am a fan of Alex too, but Mister Goose is my #1.
Nice seeing Matt, both of you are my favorite vehicle reviewers!
My 2014 has 330k on it and still going strong. these highlanders are built like tanks.
Dalton Smith...that’s awesome man! Are those miles or kilometers?
You put that mileage on in a short period of time I assume mostly highway. So I would assume if you continue at that rate you might surpass 1M miles
Congrats on 300K. I want to see this SUV in person.
Saul, it’s actually “quiet”, not QUITE. Those two words mean very different things. Best of luck on your SUV search…
The music sounds like an early 90’s romantic comedy.

Right and the Toyota is probably the best quality vehicle in its class but it is just a minor detail music of the video is far more significunt.

I see Toyota was afraid of losing the pie from Hyundai and Kia. Nice interior upgrade.

The MSDS pages are always stuck together at my local library. MM must be the one checking them out before me.
Why is someone who can't read going to a library?

So good I watched twice. Test drove the Highlander the other day and it's legit.
Ah yes time to watch a real reviewer do his work unlike Redline Reviews
Redline Reviews and TFL are an absolute joke. I can't stand any of those guys...
@@sleeksilver They're just a different approach. They make vids that appeal to the masses. Not everyone wants wants to watch a short documentary on a car, even though it's by far my favorite style. I will contend that Savagegeese is leagues ahead of them artistically, but that's also the reason why he's nowhere near as popular. These aren't car reviews- they're works of art.
The totally obvious bias that Redline Reviews has against Toyota/Lexus is such a joke. They’re cock drunk on Kia/Hyundai.
In Cali, we have always had 150k, 10 years on the hybrid powertrains. And we have over 20% of all the hybrids in SoCal.
Thank you kia and Hyundai for making the car companies wake up!
They sure did! I read an article about this vehicle and it suggested that the Telluride and Palisade might have something to worry about with this new model.
Its unfortunate that most people will be more biased on the brand name vs the product. Which one would you choose?
@@joellopez1637 That's a tough one. I would probably go with the Telluride.
Joel lopez you are right, I would go for Toyota bc of brand reliability, the thing is Kia and Hyundai have a bad reputation where I live (which is not USA) they are part of a group called “excel automotriz” and the cars are not that reliable and to make it worse they have the worst car shops
And thank you for advertising Kia and Hyundai yet under another high quality product video.
The intro is like a freaking commercial clip! Great job
Great review!
I test drove and you were right on point with your observations.
So which is better to drive: new Highlander Hybrid or new RAV4 Hybrid?
Only 300k subs?! You worth many millions of subs. Keep up the awesome breakdowns my friend.
When are you going to to do the RAV4 hybrid?
Mark, You are the best on TH-cam for car info! Thank you for doing so.
We want more Matt Maran cameos Savagegeese!
Matt maran is a clown.
Your intro montages are an absolute treat. Love it!!
11:58 Glad to see Toyota's drive train "stragety" is working smoothly!
The battery pack doesn't need a warranty. It's the hybrid specific braking system that you should be worried about because WHEN it fails, you WILL rear end someone. Don't doubt me, it WILL fail. It's a known issue on almost every hybrid and none of the manufacturers are addressing it.
waiting for the 2021 sienna hybrid!
Great review, however personally I love the size of the screen for me personally it just works I like to view things clearly at a glance
Looks like Subaru Ascent mixed with a Hyundai Santa Fe.
yet uglier
go build your own car company like Mr. Lambo did
Keep up the good work Mr. Geese, your work, creativity, and honest review are much appreciated.
Looks like a pretty good family hauler. It's no Subaru WRX, but i guess you could say I'm kind of a FAN of those.
The cameo had me laughing so hard I almost cut myself shaving.
Shame the cameo wasn’t Subaru boy cutting himself...I love how he was reading a MSDS when we know he doesn’t even know how to pop the hood
The Highlander is great as always. I would like to drive this car to make my 4K driving tour video in San Francisco streets!
I would get one for its reliability.
It looks like the Rav on steroids.
If you want reliability don't get this get the 4runner
Great review! If I want to tow 3500lb RV, which version of 2020 highlander you recommend?
NiMi batteries are better for cold weather. -30F and -40F it works. The hyundai batteries do not work past -20F at all.
German, US, Korea cars all use more expensive lithium-ion batteries.
Only Toyota is using cheap batteries.
This is only a trick to increase profits.
@@harper7489 wrong again.
@zeroyon223 fat fingers
That montage is super premium and the retro style music really fits great. Sell that clip to Toyota for their ads or something. This seems a solid vehicle too but if I needed this many seats I would get a Minivan or if I need to haul or tow I would get a truck.
You know it's a big vehicle if 20" rims looks small, and 18" looks tiny and too small!
Big wheel look good to a point - aspect ratio probably wouldn't be so bad but tires would be a bit more expensive.
Third row too small, my knees are in my stomach. Don’t like the new styling. I would have bought a 2019 if it had apple car play.
I think the mom and the ditze are one in the same. 😉
What about the cvt transmission in the Hybrid?.You not once mentioned it is reliable.
Oh dear, that massager must be really good (8:40)
As usual : best on TH-cam. How you're only at 300k subscribers makes no sense. I guess most people prefer to be lied to.
A great car for the wife, provided she doesn't care about showing off and flexing to her neighbors.
Yeah but Toyota WTH with that redesign the pre refresh version looks so much better
You buy this not for styling, not for the infotainment, but because you’ve been burned one too many times for repairs and maintenance on something else. This is the vehicle you’ll eventually just get tired of way before it’s physically worn out.
Aussie2u who wants a garbage infotainment? It’s shit all around
