    The fact that the great 6 cyl is no more can't be ignored. That is one of the best powertrains the auto industry has ever produced, from whatever angle you want to analyze it. We had two of them, 200k miles each, never a concern. And yes, we tested the hibrid. It is not refined, it shouts, and changes the driving experience very clearly.

      I have plenty of seat time in the big 3 Japanese V6s (2GR, VQ, J) and the Toyota 2GR (not the Lexus one) is the worst by far. Plus IMO all these V6s are too thin on torque for 4000-5000lb behemoths like this. Revs are the enemy in a 7 passenger family hauler. So these turbo 4s are an upgrade.

    • @fearhand12
      @fearhand12 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      @@future62 Yeah there's a reason they've been using this turbo in Lexus products for a bit. It floats to highway speeds way easier with the extra ~40-50 lb/ft of torque

      This was the debate when the 2020 came out. Opted out on the V6 Platinum being that this is a car that I plan on keeping up to 300k, I don't want to think about it for the next 10 to 15 years. No matter how you slice it, this V6 is one of Toyotas greatest engines along with their V8s. Any complaints about efficiency go away when you take the car cross country. I squeezed 32 mpgs on the highway in comfort cross country. Driving dynamics can be improved with better tires and lighter wheels on this thing and a beefier rear sway bar if needed, plus the platinum comes with an upgraded rear diff.
      If anyone wants it to sing and perform... you can get yourself a Lotus Evora or an up and coming Emira, there is a reason a Lotus is now a desired sports car. It will last.

      The hybrid pulls noticeably better and more refined from a stop than the V6. The V6 pulls better from 30-80. Except under heavy acceleration the hybrid is more refined. And the hybrid mpg seems miraculous.
      Given excellent maintenance and timely repairs, the traction battery life of 200-250k miles (and the very high prices of the other hybrid components) is likely to shorten the service life of a hybrid over a comparably used and maintained V6. At least I hoped so when I replaced my 09 hybrid with a 17 ICE.
      But for most drivers purchasing the RAV4 is the better value. Car prices have gotten stupid.

      The hybrid 2.5 is excellent for city traffic and "normal" application driving. I honestly miss nothing with it when I drive normally. Only when I'm driving like I stole it, is the experience horrendous. I really wish they had a "performance drive" oriented hybrid, like you find on the LC500h or the outgoing Crown 3.5 hybrid.
      My thought on this, is that Toyota missed an opportunity as they pushed the 2GR 3.5 over and over and over again. There was the chance to build a smaller displacement engine. A 2.8 inline 6 or V6 would, now, fit perfectly in the times we are going through. They could offer this with their hybrid "performance" lineup, and be good and well on any market.

Interior is like new, couple minor scratches in the paint that she doesn’t care about at all. I much preferred the look of the 2018 front end over these new ones. She also is relieved that it’s not a hybrid because she was paranoid about having the big cost of replacing the batteries out of the blue down the road. Also to add. It’s actually the first vehicle we I’ve owned where power seats actually make sense because you can save driver settings which at the press of a button on the door adjust the seat and mirrors automatically.

Also Sienna > this and most SUV/SUVs, even with the boneheaded Toyota decision to make it a PITA to remove the second row seats without buying a relay defeat to keep the airbag issue, but once that’s done you can haul 7 full sized adults comfortably OR sheets of plywood flat on the floor and everything you’d need to remodel a bathroom or build a treehouse. How do I know? Owned the previous Sienna and could carry a boys hockey team or massive home projects with drywall and supplies all in the same week. Can’t do that with any SUV.

    Toyota's transverse-V6-hybrid drivetrain is/was fantastic, and is extremely well rounded. 0-60mph in around 7s for a 3row midsized SUV getting 28mpg *combined* is extremely good, especially coupled with the excellent reliability of those hybrids.
