100%. No kids use the tilt-and-slide. So your choices are muddy shoes running over the center console, or over the top of the bench (like we used to do). This is why everyone is getting the captain chairs instead of a bench.

Im not from the US neither from Europe but having live in both places all I can say is the US is superior by far and Europe does suck sometimes

I do want to point out that the snow mode does actually do something, it decreases your vehicles power in an effort to increase traction per wheel making sure youll have little to no slippage, I drive a highlander and in my experience it has been proven to be immensely useful in heavily snowed roads
Best if country u live in used salt. It can ruin body of the car especially below since it can cause rust or something but there are far less accidents and less icy roads when they put salt on roads here. Im from Serbia and from what i know they decided to stop putting salt in Western Europian countries cuz of the reason mentioned above :D

MrCactus Jones it happens though ☹️ we got creamed by a moving truck in our Highlander while stopped last week and it kept my children safe. With the crash, I’m even more sold on Highlanders.
Loved our Highlander! 😭 Someone rear ended us, totaled the car and it kept our children safe. Best family car IMO. 😍 The new prices are no bueno though. Buy used, get a Limited if you can.

To this day ita never been to the shop. Only basic maintenance. He bought a new Tundra in 13 and its been better than any of the fords he's had including his company trucks. I buy whats best for my family. The big 3 have cheaply made interiors that don't hold up. They start making all kinds of whining and other noises after only a couple years. Toyotas sound the same 10 years old as they do new. That avalon was passed down to my brother and he just passed that car down to his son. American vehicles are junk compared to Toyota. Even if that American car stays reliable, they still fall apart inside. When American automakers start making vehicles as good as Toyota ill buy one. Till then I'll stick with Toyota, at least for my wife. Ive had my share of crap american vehicles and I don't buy them. Theyve improved alot, and there are a couple I would consider. But for my wife and kids they'll be in a Toyota or Lexus before anything else.

A too late comment but I find it criminal not to include what I think is the most useful feature in this car, the Lane Tracing Assist combined with the Dynamic Radar. I've drove this car for a 10 hours trip and I LOVED how I barely had to do the steering. I believe all trims has it which is not something you see in other brands.
Easy fella, that motor is bulletproof. There's a reason it's been in nearly every single Toyota for the last 20 years. I had a 2005 Highlander and the motor still ran like new at 100k.

Why am I bothering to watch this? I literally work at a Toyota dealership. Edit: I do detail at a dealership in PA. I don't have info on future cars, I just get to drive the current ones around the lot and mess with some of the tech features.
It's crazy that people families will forgo the versatility of a van in favor of a crossover because of crossovers are the "cool" option. Tell me again why a 2020 Highlander is cooler than a 2021 Pacifica or a 2021 Kia Sedona? It's ridiculous that vans are dying off because of this, and that an entire generation of kids aren't gonna be able to inherit them from their parents.
I still don't get this hatred for minivans. If I needed a minivan, that's exactly what I would buy, and sliding doors are awesome, especially powered ones. I don't have one because I currently have no use for one, but I still like them and hate SUVs exactly because people are buying them because they are too insecure to get a minivan. If you buy an SUV, I will be much more likely to judge you than if you buy a minivan.
I like our minivan. Kids can’t open or close doors gently, our Sienna’s sliding doors have prevented countless door dings and probably a few trips to urgent care for smashed fingers.
I have to mention that the way this review was made is really useful for the manufacturers to promote their products and also improve upon factors that are mentioned. Doug should be paid by them just to do this and i think he does it in a very informative, clear concise and also professional way. Great review!!
I do use my Highlander’s off road features, and it’s a lot more capable then most would think. Fun fact: the Highlander was originally a trim package for the 4Runner.
I'm a trainer for Toyota, and can confirm that the Platinum gets the digital rearview mirror. Also, you can get the 12.3 inch screen in the limited as an option for anyone who may read this.
I remember when Doug first reviewed the Peugeot 3008, he said he usually doesn't review cars like these. I guess the market has spoken: he now reviews so many mid-size SUVs and crossovers.

Toyota has been using the venerable 3.5 V6 for over a decade. Can't fix what ain't broken! Very smooth and powerful engine. No stupid timing belt either like the older V6's.

Just because it doesn't move automatically, doesn't mean it's not one motion. The back moves forward and the bottom slides forward without needing to move one first, or pull two separate levers. The old 4Runners needed you to flip the seat bottom forward, and then press a button on the top of the seatback.

The previous model has all of these features except: -latch to move 2nd row with car seat installed -wireless phone charging -rear view mirror screen -updated infotainment The infotainment was probably the biggest complaint with the previous model though. The price jumped quite a bit too, the previous top end was still under $50k. Like all SUV's this size, the 3rd row is completely useless. Reviewers say it's only for kids, but kids are supposed to be in car seats, and good luck with one of those back there. If you want a 3rd row, get something bigger. Otherwise, leave it folded down and have excellent cargo space.
I first started with Highlander in 2008 (used with 1000 mi) with a somewhat plain version with all wheel drive and loved it. I drove it to 90K mi and traded in for a 2013 limited (used with 900 mi) I currently have 75Kmi on it and plan to drive it as long as I can. At age 62 I have little need to get another one. I like the 2013 and it carries all my grandkids when needed and all our stuff when on road trips. I like the all wheel drive for snow country and wet roads. The sound system is very good and the nav-system is a plus we have grown to really like. I like the quality that Toyota puts into it's car and the power from this V6 is surprising. Yes the newest tricks on the 2020 would be nice but for us - what we have, we like and don't feel the need to spend over $50K on a car. I would recommend a Highlander to anyone - new if you can afford it or a good used one would be a fine car as well.
My parents are both retired and where looking for a "Last car" that would work the rest of their lives. Told them Toyota every time they asked for recommendations. They finally got a 2021 Highlander in February.
I'm glad the amazing interior colors were picked, instead of plain black. And the covers for rear windows to block the sun are on the XLE trim, that's something I can confirm as my mom owns the XLE trim (I have no car or license, I have 5 years left).
Kevs2good everything it started with a head gasket but turned to knock and then would’ve had to replace pistons because the compression ratio was like 1:12 somehow but he never sold it so now it’s just kinda a part of the environment 😂😂

I really like the reviews of flashy multi-million dollars cars but these ones I find particularly enjoyable because they are realistically attainable cars for the average person at some point in their life (although this one is still a bit pricy.) It's also great to see just how much 'entry-level' cars have improved over the years.
I’m 15 years old and my mom bought a 2010 Highlander when I was 5 and it was so weird when it was ten years since she bought this past March, it was really the first time in my life where I remember ten years ago! I grew up in that Highlander and I love it, and my mom loves it! She’s showing her age though, sometimes having a hard time starting and with almost 260,000 miles on it, it makes sense! Anyway I love the Highlander and if I have kids someday and the highlander is still being made it will be my first choice!
The Highlander and 4Runner, atleast the 2019 models, were essentially the same. Same height, length, seats and stuff. Obviously the 4Runner is actually an SUV, not this soft roader. But dimensions, they were almost spot on. So going up a notch to the Sequoia is actually correct. But that may change in (possibly) 2022 when the 4Runner is finally completely redone.
The 4 Runner Sucks!! My friend bought one brand new in 2017 to take off road because he has a Camp! He said it was the worse 4X4 vehicle he ever owned! Also it broke down on him and had to go in the Shop! Some major sensor was faulty and they also found something else wrong and fixed that too! He just recently traded it in on a Jeep Gladiator Rubicon!! So we see how that goes!!
Just drove off the lot today the 2021 highlander xle and its awesome. I traded my 2018 jeep compass and dont ever buy one!!! This new 2021 is a dream machine!!!

Toyota Highlander: for people who want a minivan but refuse to admit it.
It's crazy that people families will forgo the versatility of a van in favor of a crossover because of crossovers are the "cool" option. Tell me again why a 2020 Highlander is cooler than a 2021 Pacifica or a 2021 Kia Sedona? It's ridiculous that vans are dying off because of this, and that an entire generation of kids aren't gonna be able to inherit them from their parents.
Hat tip to my friends with 3 kids, where mom drives a Sienna and dad drives a Highlander because he doesn't want to drive a minivan.
I still don't get this hatred for minivans. If I needed a minivan, that's exactly what I would buy, and sliding doors are awesome, especially powered ones. I don't have one because I currently have no use for one, but I still like them and hate SUVs exactly because people are buying them because they are too insecure to get a minivan.
If you buy an SUV, I will be much more likely to judge you than if you buy a minivan.

I like our minivan. Kids can’t open or close doors gently, our Sienna’s sliding doors have prevented countless door dings and probably a few trips to urgent care for smashed fingers.

I have to mention that the way this review was made is really useful for the manufacturers to promote their products and also improve upon factors that are mentioned. Doug should be paid by them just to do this and i think he does it in a very informative, clear concise and also professional way. Great review!!
I do use my Highlander’s off road features, and it’s a lot more capable then most would think. Fun fact: the Highlander was originally a trim package for the 4Runner.

My step mom has a red 2020 platinum highlander she never uses the real mirror anymore the screen is so much better
I'm a trainer for Toyota, and can confirm that the Platinum gets the digital rearview mirror. Also, you can get the 12.3 inch screen in the limited as an option for anyone who may read this.

Toyota has been using the venerable 3.5 V6 for over a decade. Can't fix what ain't broken! Very smooth and powerful engine. No stupid timing belt either like the older V6's.

Just because it doesn't move automatically, doesn't mean it's not one motion. The back moves forward and the bottom slides forward without needing to move one first, or pull two separate levers. The old 4Runners needed you to flip the seat bottom forward, and then press a button on the top of the seatback.
@@xenonram It's still two motions. First the seat back goes down, then the seat moves forward. If it were one motion both would occur at the same time.
If you use the latch over the right shoulder it would be one motion

in europe light vehicle category is below 3.5t or 3500kg, but in north america vehicle called light if it is below 11t 11000kg, so basically most trucks without pneumatic brakes people drive with regular passenger car license, hence the classification

The previous model has all of these features except:
-latch to move 2nd row with car seat installed
-wireless phone charging
-rear view mirror screen
-updated infotainment
The infotainment was probably the biggest complaint with the previous model though. The price jumped quite a bit too, the previous top end was still under $50k.
Like all SUV's this size, the 3rd row is completely useless. Reviewers say it's only for kids, but kids are supposed to be in car seats, and good luck with one of those back there. If you want a 3rd row, get something bigger. Otherwise, leave it folded down and have excellent cargo space.

Its a great suv that seems to check all the boxes, i just dont like the look of the new one but best crossover on the planet
I first started with Highlander in 2008 (used with 1000 mi) with a somewhat plain version with all wheel drive and loved it. I drove it to 90K mi and traded in for a 2013 limited (used with 900 mi) I currently have 75Kmi on it and plan to drive it as long as I can. At age 62 I have little need to get another one. I like the 2013 and it carries all my grandkids when needed and all our stuff when on road trips. I like the all wheel drive for snow country and wet roads. The sound system is very good and the nav-system is a plus we have grown to really like.
I like the quality that Toyota puts into it's car and the power from this V6 is surprising. Yes the newest tricks on the 2020 would be nice but for us - what we have, we like and don't feel the need to spend over $50K on a car. I would recommend a Highlander to anyone - new if you can afford it or a good used one would be a fine car as well.

My parents are both retired and where looking for a "Last car" that would work the rest of their lives. Told them Toyota every time they asked for recommendations.

I'm glad the amazing interior colors were picked, instead of plain black. And the covers for rear windows to block the sun are on the XLE trim, that's something I can confirm as my mom owns the XLE trim (I have no car or license, I have 5 years left).
We have an XLE too.. amazing car, the screen is different tho lol
The rear cargo/seat back mat thing is really nice. I especially like the flexible 'joint' between the two surfaces to cover over the gap.

Kevs2good everything it started with a head gasket but turned to knock and then would’ve had to replace pistons because the compression ratio was like 1:12 somehow but he never sold it so now it’s just kinda a part of the environment 😂😂

I really like the reviews of flashy multi-million dollars cars but these ones I find particularly enjoyable because they are realistically attainable cars for the average person at some point in their life (although this one is still a bit pricy.) It's also great to see just how much 'entry-level' cars have improved over the years.
I’m 15 years old and my mom bought a 2010 Highlander when I was 5 and it was so weird when it was ten years since she bought this past March, it was really the first time in my life where I remember ten years ago! I grew up in that Highlander and I love it, and my mom loves it! She’s showing her age though, sometimes having a hard time starting and with almost 260,000 miles on it, it makes sense! Anyway I love the Highlander and if I have kids someday and the highlander is still being made it will be my first choice!

THE FEAR SUPERIOR 4RUNNER WOULD LIKE TO HAVE A WORD.
The Highlander and 4Runner, atleast the 2019 models, were essentially the same. Same height, length, seats and stuff. Obviously the 4Runner is actually an SUV, not this soft roader. But dimensions, they were almost spot on. So going up a notch to the Sequoia is actually correct. But that may change in (possibly) 2022 when the 4Runner is finally completely redone.
The 4 Runner Sucks!! My friend bought one brand new in 2017 to take off road because he has a Camp! He said it was the worse 4X4 vehicle he ever owned! Also it broke down on him and had to go in the Shop! Some major sensor was faulty and they also found something else wrong and fixed that too! He just recently traded it in on a Jeep Gladiator Rubicon!! So we see how that goes!!
