I’ve wouldn’t be surprised if I’ve watched over 1,000 golf instruction videos. All along, I have been desperately searching for the factor of the swing that trumps all others in importance. One thing I could figure out that would help me play good golf consistent no matter what else I’m doing that day. I’m confident we have all just found it in this video thanks to Danny! I just took 20 dry hacks in my brothers kitchen with my 8 iron. It feels so right. Side note: This is my first TH-cam comment.
THIS IS THE HOLY GRAIL!!! I took this advice to the driving range and WOW. I’ve shot in the the high 70’s exactly 12 times in my life. I know that because I keep those scorecards in my office but the amount of golf I play makes those scores extremely rare. 90% of the time I shoot between 85 and 95 and I’ve probably averaged 3-4 rounds a week for the past fifteen years. I played four times since I watched this video a week ago and shot an 83, an 80, and 79 twice👍⛳️🍻
far and away the my favorite instructor. no one else has the ability to break down the shot and explain it in such a relatable way. ive been golfing for about 8 years and have watched countless videos but until I found Mr Maudes videos ive never truly felt how a proper swing should feel. thank you sir!
Danny, this lesson and your lesson with Mr. Cowen are two of your best yet! I've been using nothing but your lessons for the last to teach myself. I've gone from being on the verge of quitting the game to becoming a pretty good ball striker. Thank you for all the great videos. WB
I played my best golf when I had the swing thought of keeping my elbows together, and I imagined the swing of Tim Clark form South Africa. It's not so easy to get that swing feeling back, but after having watched several of your videos, I feel like I know what I need to work on next season. Thank you, Danny.
Hey Danny, your comments in the final minutes "get your lead arm back underneath your lead shoulder" was the biggest eye opener for me! I have been hitting the ball everywhere and this tip for me flipped the switch, thank you for all your awesome videos, you're the best!
I worked on the very same thing on the range yesterday. went through the setup of arms out horizontally to get a better grip pressure and square setup with the Y at address. The balls were damp and I was given feedback on face striking which improved and gave me masses of confidence . Been playing for 50 years and it never stops to amaze me how we can tweek and hopefully get something out the game. Cheers Danny👍
What a great lesson. I started playing golf at the ripe old age of 68. Now approaching 72 I've struggled mightily with inconsistent with ball striking. After watching the video and practicing the step by step elements of a proper and consistent structure I've come to appreciate how having one is necessary to better ball striking. Having a consistent structure has also helped me develop a more consistent "feel" so that when I start to fall into some old habits I can correct them in real time. Thanks Danny!!
Improve contact, square the face, by keeping elbows together while PUSHING the club AWAY from you ("Maintaining Structure") which naturally reduces/eliminates the "cup" in the lead wrist!! So many light bulbs going off in my head right now, I had to put on my sunglasses! GREAT STUFF!!!
This video is gold from Danny. It is/was so spot on to the contact problems I was having. What he said about the right elbow really hit home. At 72 I struggle with flexibility. I can’t get my right elbow nearly as vertical as Danny does in the backswing. I do the best I can though. Middle of the face contact consistently, makes up for a lot of distance you might lose with loss of flexibility. The video also helps correct flipping the club, which I sometimes struggle with. The only other thing I might add is having the correct posture during your swing. No slouching or excessive curved back. Check your alignment also. You may have your shoulders aligned properly to the target but your hips are open. You slice the ball and wonder why. It’s your hips being open at address. Thanks Danny! So many good videos you have.
Again Danny, fantastic instruction video. I have really only one golf philosophy for three years now and that is Danny Maud's golf philosophy. It gives me simplicity, confidence, golfing enjoyment and consistently better golfing results.
Danny, of the three thousand six hundred and fifty-five golf tip clips Ive watched over the years, this ONE produced instant and excellent results. Coupled with the "spin the right forearm" in your lesson with Pete. It's put some fun (and hope ) back into my game. Thanks, Naples Florida. USA
Had a horrible day on the course yesterday pulling all my short irons left. Watched this then went to the range to test it. Works an absolute treat. So simple but you can dial the feeling straight in. Absolute game changer for consistency of strike. I play off 7.3 so I’m no mug, can’t wait to take this to the course.
@@DanielMaude 160-190 yards out absolutely beautiful so for me 3-6 iron. 7-pitch still tugging which says to me it’s complacency in preparation and more mental. I expect to be hitting greens with shorter irons. Need a trend so will report back after next couple of games.
At last!!!!! I now have a video demonstrating exactly what I SHOULD BE DOING. I'm still lifting up too soon and not extending my arms through the entire swing, but with this video, I can practice, practice the right way to swing. Congratulations and many thanks Danny. You nailed it. This one is the winner!!!!!
This was one of Ben Hogan´s Five Lessons and it totally changed my game. The illustration in his book of the forearms being bound by rope was a mental image that helped me go from a fader to a drawer of the ball almost overnight.
I have struggled with my swing for the last 12 months. I played my first round of 2024 yesterday in far from ideal conditions. I adopted the Y structure and used a three quarter swing. On every drive my shot went arrow straight. Same with my irons. I believed it worked for me because it does not take a lot to think about at set-up and it provides a discipline to the strike. I lost some distance as not yet confident to take the structure all the way back - but at least I was hitting the fairway each time and that’s good enough for me! Thank you Danny for your excellent drills and for putting them across so well.
Danny, you have massively helped this 69 year old to hit decent driver. 18 handicap but last Saturday only missed 2 fairways. On the way to a gross score of 87. Taking course hcap into consideration that was 5 under. Now watching this video I’m sure the simplicity will help enormously. Thank you
Danny, this latest video may just put yourself out of work!!!! I can't believe how well I was striping it today! First round of the year since I live in the Northeast, and all I was trying to do was this set up take back drill. It worked on every club in the bag! You are totally the best. I don't know how you are going to top this one, but thanks so much. Such an enjoyable round!
Great lesson! I eventually arrived at this same type of swing last fall. I'm old and inflexible, but with the "y" set-up, the ball at center and paying attention to the elbows, I'm now compressing the ball at impact for the first time ever and hitting the best irons of my life. After my local course closed last fall and the ground had frozen (before the snow hit), I spent some time hitting balls up and down the empty driving range. Talk about instant feedback! Now you could really see the benefit of that compression now. Off the hard, frozen ground I was hitting these straight, long towering shots. Beautiful! Can't wait for spring. Your lesson mirrors and reenforces my own swing method. Thank-you!
Wonderful to hear Gary, love to hear how you get on

I'm left side dominate but play right handed. For years I've tried to follow the tips of right handed instructors teaching right handed players. Your video gave me the confidence to trust my left side. Please keep us lefties in mind for future videos.
Having been out of the game for over a decade I started to play again last spring. I realized I wasn't going to play like a pro, but I just couldn't strike the ball with any confidence. After watching this video I can honestly say I think you summed up almost all of my problems. Golf is still about 2 months away here in northern New York but I can't wait to start this drill in the garage. Thanks Danny for another great video.
Worked on this on the range today. Once I got the hang of it with a reliable club like 8-iron, I moved up to my (unhittable) 6-iron. It took a couple swings to get comfortable, but by the time I put the club away I was not only consistently making solid contact I was starting to shape my shots into beautiful draws and fades as intended. For the first time all year I have confidence in my 6-iron and can't wait to hit the course this weekend with one more weapon in my bag.
I play off single figures and wondered if this tip would be useful, I can honestly say this is the best advice and instruction I have come across, it totally works, incredible Thank you.
For personal reasons, I haven´t been watching your video lessons for quite some time. I do acknowledge that you have greatly improved your golf coaching, though keeping it simple as is your 'trade mark' Congrats
Thanks Danny, you've just reiterated the issue that I have been suffering from. My ball strike was reasonable at one point, then I spent too long worrying about perfection in my backswing. My swing got worse and found it impossible to get thru on the downswing. Last week I remembered to push the hands out with made a big difference. Then I found that practising my chipping / short pitches made me take a shorter backswing but followed thru much better. Now my mindset is forget the big backswing and just focus on ball strike and nice follow thru. What a difference. Now I understand the drill about pushing the ball thru with zero backswing.. 👍
This was a great reinforcement, albeit a slightly different teaching approach, that my local pro gave me in my lesson last week. Love the vids, Danny. Keep 'em coming!
Great tip. Recently I have been trying to keep my elbows together and forming the "Y" and found the irons shots are a lot straighter. Even one of my golfing friends have noticed my game was "on fire" the other day.
Oh Danny! I've been on the move for the past couple of weeks so couldn't really interact all that much but rest assured I've been keeping up with these gold nuggets that you keep dropping on here and boy have I improved my game or what! All thanks to you lad, cheers!
Danny this is another gem. I love the feeling of my right palm at the top feeling like it is waving to a camera behind me. It’s a great way to get the cup out of left wrist without a lot of thought. It becomes automatic. Thanks so much!
DM - You're the best!!! That worked wonders for me for distance and direction! It was like my old irons were new irons with this technique. Many thanks!
Danny I can't even tell you how much the "hammer the tee into the ground" trick helped me, picturing that action I never had to think about anything else my body just did what was needed. Been swinging a hammer for 16 years been swinging a golf club for 1 season 😂 your videos have been a big help recently broke 100
Great explanation and keeping it so simple. One of your best lessons yet. I have recently been working on keeping my trail arm straight at the top of the swing and then firing that lead arm on the downswing. What a difference it has made. Distance of the tee is 20-30 yards!!
Danny this da truth and you are da man! 😂. I discovered what you suggest here on my own a dozen + years ago after struggling for twenty with the problems you show - loose hinges in the arm triangle. The ‘magic’ secret? That ulna-radial rotation of forearms YOU ONLY GET AUTOMATICALLY if the Vardon or interlaced Nicklaus variation is established on the handle of the club IN THE AIR. I had been grounding and gripping then raising for years. That one very remarkable change in my swing lead me down a rabbit hole of wanting to understand the bio-mechanical WHYs understanding mostly ‘do it my way it works’ HOW format of most instruction in GOLF and everything-like why did Hogan set his feet and sit down knock-kneed and others bow their legs. The answer to that related to what is shown here: what created a feeling of ‘firm-less’ in the legs torso and arms is counter-torque stretching of muscles around the rigid but multi-hinged skeleton. WHY does the Vardon grip seem to work better than any other in golf? Well I discovered that if I held the shaft of the club VERTICAL with my right hand loosely, established my normal left hand grip on the club, moved my right back on top as Vardon did its pad overlapping shaft of left WITH ELBOWS BENT 90° and elbows at sided THEN LOWERED the club by just bending at hip socket and letting the weight of the club pull the arms straight I witnessed the following: Inward forearm rotation - radius bone rotating around ulna Feeling of forearms and triceps being stretched by that rotation Increasing pressure of that right (trailing) overlapping pad on the left (lead grip) The rotation causing the grip to ‘strengthen - per golf parlance of where the Vs between thumbs and index fingers point and because there is a involuntary reaction of the fingers curling tighter when the forearms rotate and their muscles - which control the fingers stretch like rubber bands! By the time the lead arm is pulled straight line that it feels like a one piece ramrod or more accurately a tightly twisted rope BUT-and this a bit point of confusion in golf instruction-there is no CONSCIOUS MUSCULAR CONTRACTION. In other works you don’t start with the grip on the club feeling very lose-as it will at the start gripping with shaft vertically / elbows bent-then making a conscious action to curl the fingers tighter, the fingers tighten due to the automatic stretching of forearms AND TRICEPS if the process is started with elbows bent 90° I know this is way too far into the weeds for 99% of golfers but there are that 1% like me (and Homer Kelley) who are fascinated by the underlying causes, the WHY underlying the HOW. If you ground then grip then raise the club the same feel can be obtained BUT you’ll need to CONTRACT muscles to do it and they will tend to RELAX during the swing turning a firm feeling “y” at address into ‘arms akimbo’ flying elbows and chicken wings during the swing. The key is to feel the forearms are relaxed (no contraction) but twisted and stretched - a significant difference in feel, bio-mechanical action and performance and why I why I cringe whenever I hear a golf instructor (99.9% of them who grip in the air out of habit and never mention it) says “just relax the arms”. Hogan didn’t and thats where I got my first clue-the cutaway drawings in Five Lessons showing which muscles Hogan felt where ‘twisted like a rope’ at address in his swing. Martin Hall also teaches the grip in air/elbows bent technique calling it EDPU or ‘Elbows Down / Palms Up’ as if praying 🙏🏼 when starting the putting club handle between and lowering. Starting with club shaft vertical and elbows bent and pressing into sides is also what the PGA MANUAL OF INSTRUCTION book I’ve read and digested recommends but as always with no explanation WHY it works bio-mechanically. Finally why did the Vardon grip -actually invented by a Scotsman amateur champ in the 1890s and names Laidlay and copies by Vardon-revolutionize golf? If you try gripping as I, Mr. Hall and the PGA book suggest and PROPERLY use the Vardon grip you will observe at address the radius bones of both arms will be almost exactly in the middle of their range of rotation. The forearm rotation causing pronation and supination of the hands will max out at the top bringing club up automatically on an ideal path, come back to 50/50 through impact, then will max out again in the other direction ideally as club pulls trail arm straight in the finish AUTOMATICALLY IF ON RAILS. The Vardon grip PLUS proper stretching of the arms in both forearms and triceps (creating by starting with those bend elbows) make the hands work like a well oiled hinge on a gate to guide the club on an ideal BALANCED path around the center of rotation and BALANCE established with similar counter torque between lead and trail side with STRETCHING of muscles not contraction as all golfers wind up doing at all levels when their grip, set-up and takeaway are not ideal. We all can CONSCIOUSLY feel when swing isn’t in balance and the brain reacts with muscular contraction to try to steer in back in balance and get face square to target. That happens less when the set-up as described above keeps the muscles counter torqued lead to trail sides at all points in the swing like the Vardon grip does for hands and arms. Lower body? It’s all relative to the angles of the feet, why Hogan was very emphatic about that in his version of the golf swing; back foot squared, front always flared 22° (half of 45°)
@@DanielMaude I’m a kindred spirit in the desire to teach others the only sport involving a ball I ever got good at by reading a lot of golf books starting in the 80s and actually trying everything the authors -Nickluas, Watson, Palmer, Hogan, Snead, Abe Mitchell, Henry Cotton-and developed a love for the history of the game and what factors caused equipment and conventional wisdom about how to swing evolved. For example the swing in the 1900s was based on the limits of the hickory shafts which the force acting on the mass in the toe twisted open and shut and snapped bent like metal and carbon fiber is today. The change in balls from wood, to feathery, to gutta percha (with and without dimples), round rubber/fluid core, polymer plastic resulted in new techniques and evolving conventional wisdom. I considered doing the PGA instructor school after retiring at 55 from the foreign service but didn’t agree with its teaching methods and instead just found a min. wage job at a pro shop with the perk of unlimited free golf then became a starter sitting on the first tee analyzing mostly bad golf swings of working class guess who never took a lesson (too expensive) or read a book (It’s just like baseball I can figure out it out) The golfer’s of today-with 5 minute attention spans-are TRULY blessed 🙏🏼🏌️♂️to have people like you willing to dispense really good advice in unorthodox ways (i.e., not designed to prolong the process of learning at $100 per hour) I bow in your general direction 😀
Thanks Danny, spent an hour or so on the range trying a few of your tips out, they certainly helped consistency. Im hoping that this one will give me the confidence to swing a little harder.
Just done this after trying it on the range. Had an almost perfect round (for me). Only missed one shot and rushed it a bit. Shot 70 with just one bogey. Haven’t done this for years. Thanks Danny. A simple thing to do and makes a massive difference!
I've been watching Danny for a while, and this video might have changed my golf life. Concentrating on keeping my elbows together through the swing is a game changer for me. I have to practice a while at it, but first time out it was a dramatic improvement.
Hey Danny, a couple of weeks ago you clarified and defined the Cowan "spinning arm" downswing concept which is right arm completely straightens out. You showed how right elbow opens then closes against the body. Soon after, I played 2 rounds of 9 . That straight arm is a beautiful thing; slow swingers like me find hidden power, distance with nice trajectory immediately. There is a pro like "release" / turn over going through impact to finish. The tricky thing that has now been showing up is low hooks and high blocks due to rotating face. Also I was very foggy on the "pressure" Cowan emphasized to you over and over.
Hi Danny. I asked for a tempo suggestion a couple of weeks ago that I could use both in practice and on course. I would like to thank you very much for your advice and report that it is working, all be it slowly but it is. My mates have noticed a change already, so once again thank you. I now sing to myself,in my head before every shot. 👍🏻
I also watch a lot of golf instruction on TH-cam and I have to say also that Danny’s instruction is some of the best that I can actually go out and implement. Playing for 3 years now and I can consistently score in the low 80’s. 45 yrs old btw.
this video was tremendously helpful on the first swing. the biggest hole in my game is the mid irons. par 3 no. 2 today, 140 yd 8 iron, pin high and 4 ft right of the cup. sink it for birdie. subscribed! (2 birdies, 1 par, and a bogey on the par 3's today. 2 tee shots inside 6 ft. and another dead on the pin 12 ft long)
Thanks for the advice Danny! I think I need to check this for myself...Also when I lose my swing I do a step drill that looks very similar to what you did at 9:37 (lovely looking free flowing swing) in the video. It really helps with the feeling of the club whipping through to the target.
I went to the range today and pushed my hands away to maintain structure and square my club face. I hit high straight long irons shots! ⛳️☄️💥🏌️♂️Danny you’re seriously the best instructor on TH-cam! Thanks from the Pacific Northwest 🌊🏔️in the States 🇺🇸!
I'm 56 yo, I started playing golf at 10. I was extremely competitive during my youth, had a -2.5 handicap at 19, one local events, played nationally, varsity golf in college, but I always struggled with consistency round to round and intra round. For, example I would be 4 under after 10 holes and have 2 holes blow up and then stabilize and finish at par or 1 over. I stopped playing at 21 as I got frustrated with not being consistent enough to make it on the tour. Yeah at 21, I quit because I realized now that I was too immature to think long-term and go through the fixes necessary to become consistent. I was taught from the beginning in the classic players, like Sarazen, Hogan, Snead, and taught to be loose and have massive wrist cock and delay in the downswing, transferring weight laterally, etc. But this led to my inconsistencies as my swing broke down under stressful conditions. This was at the same time that Phil came on the scene and his length changed everything in the game, but he was "loosey goosey" like me, but was a far longer ball striker and used that to an advantage, hitting 8,9 and wedges into long par 4,s when everyone else still using mid irons, and hitting 550 yd plus par 5's in 2. I destroyed my swing by thinking to keep up with the new Phil(s), I lengthened my swing and became more "loosey goosey", thus if my timing was right, I could hit the occasional 300 yd drive, but if my timing was just slightly off, I would hit the worst duckers or blockers to unpredictable places, but kept in check I was stuck around 275 yd as the courses were getting substantially longer from 7200 to 7600. I couldn't keep up was always at a disadvantage to those long ballers. The game is mentally easier when striking short irons into par 4's and hitting most 5's in 2. If I had worked on that properly, I might have made it finally to the Tour, everything else was equal to all other players, just the length, I couldn't deal with seeing guys 25 to 50 yards past me on all the holes. I felt like the baby in the room. I tried to pick the game back up after an almost 20-year hiatus at 41, however stopped again at 43 as family and business dominated my time, I haven't played since 2009. I tried to make my own changes, ala. Tiger or Rory, without a coach and it proved to be good with the one-piece takeaway, things that this Mr. Maude is teaching, and I'd occasionally get connected and see 320 to 350 yd drives, one was 370 yd with slight downwind over towering trees, surprised the hell out of me as I had never hit any drive that had such a phenomenal ball flight before, it just hung in the air forever, just shocked me, a 450 yd hole down to just a sand wedge for the 2nd shot and converted, and I thought, no wonder these long ball hitters are able to score so low. I also remember hitting a 4 iron, 205 yd uphill (about 220 yd flat), with such straight and scalpel like accuracy (as I used to have strong draws) and almost making an Eagle with the ball stopping 1 rotation from going in the cup. I actually got down to playing to a 1 handicap, but could not get comfortable, this type of swing always felt weird, and my brain would just abandon this new "feel" and go back to my younger ingrained swing, I was really inconsistent with it, because it just "felt" different that how my brain was wired after hitting millions of practice shots in my youth. But, nonetheless, this swing process as taught does lead to better technique and long game play, IF mastered. The swing, because of science, has changed a bit as it is taught today.
I used this simple technique this weekend and played my best golf for ages - 38 stableford points - thanks Danny - I’ve saved this video to my favorites to remind me how simple this game can be👍
Another gem. I’ve always accidentally cupped my left wrist hinge making a lot of problems. Closing the club by pushing my palms actually got it to bow. Brilliant
Hey Danny, Mark here. Love your content Sir. Thank you. I'm self taught with the help of youtube videos. I'm currently at 10 and have been as low as a 6. My medium and short game is solid. I struggle with a two way miss off the tee . I feel like I have a grasp on the issue of this video but there is one related issue that I am still a but confused about. I maintain the straight arms at the elbows but with my leading arm, at address I can rotate ( twist longitudinally ) the elbow about 90 degrees to point the elbow either at the target, to create a slightly stronger feel, or elbow to the ground to create a weaker feel, all while maintaining grip and face angle with the hands at address. I'm a right handed. With my right trailing arm, I tend to rotate the arm as far clockwise as I can a address with the soft part of the arm outward. With my left leading arm however, I tend to just lock the elbow and leave it neutral ( with respect to the twisting action position ) as I always have but I can feel that I have a lot of latitude as to whether I could rotate it clockwise 45% or counterclockwise 45%. I'm wondering what is the prevailing wisdom on this finer nuance of the left/leading arm position issue at address?? Natural and neutral or rotated clockwise or counterclockwise?
Thank You Danny, was playing so bad I was thinking of taking up bowls 😩 This lesson was like hitting the reset button, can’t wait to hit the course tomorrow.
Fantastic! I'm going to practice this clean structure drill. It reminds me of Hogan's illustration of a solid "structure" being held together by rope. Plus, it helps the elbows move naturally inward. I won't have to remind myself anymore. Thanks as always D.M.!
Another great video Danny. I’ve already tapped up my towel from last week and this video reinforces the video you did with the elastic training band for pushing the hands away.❤
Great advice Danny, my Y structure can easily breakdown if I let it. Love the feeling of closer elbows at the top and trail palm pushing away to close the face. Then swing down underneath lead shoulder. Game changer for me 👍. Thanks again.

This video is gold from Danny. It is/was so spot on to the contact problems I was having. What he said about the right elbow really hit home. At 72 I struggle with flexibility. I can’t get my right elbow nearly as vertical as Danny does in the backswing. I do the best I can though. Thanks Mike 😁
Grazie.
You are very welcome
This was one of Ben Hogan´s Five Lessons and it totally changed my game. The illustration in his book of the forearms being bound by rope was a mental image that helped me go from a fader to a drawer of the ball almost overnight.
Well done Stan 👍
I have struggled with my swing for the last 12 months. I played my first round of 2024 yesterday in far from ideal conditions. I adopted the Y structure and used a three quarter swing. On every drive my shot went arrow straight. Same with my irons. I believed it worked for me because it does not take a lot to think about at set-up and it provides a discipline to the strike. I lost some distance as not yet confident to take the structure all the way back - but at least I was hitting the fairway each time and that’s good enough for me! Thank you Danny for your excellent drills and for putting them across so well.
That’s brilliant David well done. Thanks so much for taking the time to feedback
Elbows out as Hogan said, unbelievably strong feel at address. Good stuff Danny!
Thanks for the feedback
Danny, you have massively helped this 69 year old to hit decent driver. 18 handicap but last Saturday only missed 2 fairways. On the way to a gross score of 87. Taking course hcap into consideration that was 5 under.
Now watching this video I’m sure the simplicity will help enormously. Thank you
Thank you Chris!
Happy to hear the video helped you 😁
감사합니다.
THANK YOU! this fixed my distance and iron consistency. Relearning after 10 years off and major injuries I'll be back to low 80s in no time now!
Wonderful to hear
Excellent Danny, in particular using the 5 seconds drill before every shot. This creates the connection between the arms and the body.
Thank you Peter 👍
Having been out of the game for over a decade I started to play again last spring. I realized I wasn't going to play like a pro, but I just couldn't strike the ball with any confidence. After watching this video I can honestly say I think you summed up almost all of my problems. Golf is still about 2 months away here in northern New York but I can't wait to start this drill in the garage. Thanks Danny for another great video.
Love to hear how it goes Richard
Wow, thank you!
Thank you Doug!
Thanks
That’s really kind thank you
Great tip. Recently I have been trying to keep my elbows together and forming the "Y" and found the irons shots are a lot straighter. Even one of my golfing friends have noticed my game was "on fire" the other day.
Amazing to hear
Oh Danny! I've been on the move for the past couple of weeks so couldn't really interact all that much but rest assured I've been keeping up with these gold nuggets that you keep dropping on here and boy have I improved my game or what! All thanks to you lad, cheers!
So good to hear
Get the structure correct is one of the best piece of advice for solid ball striking. Thanks Danny.
Thank you 😁
Danny this is another gem. I love the feeling of my right palm at the top feeling like it is waving to a camera behind me. It’s a great way to get the cup out of left wrist without a lot of thought. It becomes automatic. Thanks so much!
That’s it John
Thanks Danny! Your descriptions and the overlay of radial path of the club are really helpful!
You are Very welcome!
Another awesome tip Danny !! I think this will help the most golfers .
Absolutely 🙏
I LOVE this video. It is literally a game changer. Thank you Danny. You are an incredible teacher.
Very kind thank you Ray!
DM - You're the best!!! That worked wonders for me for distance and direction! It was like my old irons were new irons with this technique. Many thanks!
Wonderful to hear Michael
A great breakdown of the Golf swing. It has already improved my game. In my later years it is the best lesson I have ever had.
Thank you Danny
@derekhowell902 that’s great well done. Keep up the good work 🙏🏻
Danny I can't even tell you how much the "hammer the tee into the ground" trick helped me, picturing that action I never had to think about anything else my body just did what was needed. Been swinging a hammer for 16 years been swinging a golf club for 1 season 😂 your videos have been a big help recently broke 100
Well done! Thanks for taking the time to comment 😁
Great explanation and keeping it so simple. One of your best lessons yet. I have recently been working on keeping my trail arm straight at the top of the swing and then firing that lead arm on the downswing. What a difference it has made. Distance of the tee is 20-30 yards!!
Amazing to hear 👏
Well I discovered that if I held the shaft of the club VERTICAL with my right hand loosely, established my normal left hand grip on the club, moved my right back on top as Vardon did its pad overlapping shaft of left WITH ELBOWS BENT 90° and elbows at sided THEN LOWERED the club by just bending at hip socket and letting the weight of the club pull the arms straight I witnessed the following:
Inward forearm rotation - radius bone rotating around ulna
Feeling of forearms and triceps being stretched by that rotation
Increasing pressure of that right (trailing) overlapping pad on the left (lead grip)
The rotation causing the grip to ‘strengthen - per golf parlance of where the Vs between thumbs and index fingers point and because there is a involuntary reaction of the fingers curling tighter when the forearms rotate and their muscles - which control the fingers stretch like rubber bands!
By the time the lead arm is pulled straight line that it feels like a one piece ramrod or more accurately a tightly twisted rope BUT-and this a bit point of confusion in golf instruction-there is no CONSCIOUS MUSCULAR CONTRACTION. In other works you don’t start with the grip on the club feeling very lose-as it will at the start gripping with shaft vertically / elbows bent-then making a conscious action to curl the fingers tighter, the fingers tighten due to the automatic stretching of forearms AND TRICEPS if the process is started with elbows bent 90°
I know this is way too far into the weeds for 99% of golfers but there are that 1% like me (and Homer Kelley) who are fascinated by the underlying causes, the WHY underlying the HOW.
Lower body? It’s all relative to the angles of the feet, why Hogan was very emphatic about that in his version of the golf swing; back foot squared, front always flared 22° (half of 45°)
Very kind of you to take the time to share such detailed feedback
I considered doing the PGA instructor school after retiring at 55 from the foreign service but didn’t agree with its teaching methods and instead just found a min. wage job at a pro shop with the perk of unlimited free golf then became a starter sitting on the first tee analyzing mostly bad golf swings of working class guess who never took a lesson (too expensive) or read a book (It’s just like baseball I can figure out it out)
The golfer’s of today-with 5 minute attention spans-are TRULY blessed 🙏🏼🏌️♂️to have people like you willing to dispense really good advice in unorthodox ways (i.e., not designed to prolong the process of learning at $100 per hour) I bow in your general direction 😀
Thanks Danny, spent an hour or so on the range trying a few of your tips out, they certainly helped consistency. Im hoping that this one will give me the confidence to swing a little harder.
Best of luck! Love to hear how you get on
Just done this after trying it on the range. Had an almost perfect round (for me). Only missed one shot and rushed it a bit. Shot 70 with just one bogey. Haven’t done this for years. Thanks Danny. A simple thing to do and makes a massive difference!
Really appreciate the feedback Derek
Brilliant simplicity producing consistent and desirable results.
Thank You, ‘Again’ Danny.
Always grateful.
You are very welcome
This one is a great video, I got a couple of friends, and my brother is interested in this video. Thanks, Danny.
Pleasure Oscar
I've been watching Danny for a while, and this video might have changed my golf life. Concentrating on keeping my elbows together through the swing is a game changer for me. I have to practice a while at it, but first time out it was a dramatic improvement.
Brilliant Ian happy to hear the videos helping you 😁
Danny is practical and his way of presenting his videos is fantastic.👏👏👏
Thank you Rian!
This makes so much sense now. I’m good with 8,9 & Pw but struggle with lower clubs
Awesome to hear
This video has made the biggest difference for me. Finally starting to swing better instead of hitting at it. Thanks Danny
Wonderful to hear 👌
Thank you Danny for explaining in detail the arm structure through the swing and repeating the lesson at the end! That’s the way to teach! Bravo! 👏😍
Happy to help Janice 😁
This is so easy to work into your setup and it really does work. One of the best tips I have ever seen or heard of. Thanks you. It made my day.
Glad it was helpful!
You are an amazing tutor Danny you break it down so a total beginner like me totally ‘Gets It ‘
Really happy to help Kim
Wonderful to hear
Hi Danny, I think this one one of the best lessons for me. Something I am going to practice and remember.
You can do it Matt
Great video!! Showed it to my sweetheart who is learning and really helped me in my trying to explain ❤
That’s great to hear Patrick
I also watch a lot of golf instruction on TH-cam and I have to say also that Danny’s instruction is some of the best that I can actually go out and implement. Playing for 3 years now and I can consistently score in the low 80’s. 45 yrs old btw.
Thank you Perry! Very kind 😁
Love this Danny, your a great person.....watching from Alberta Canada 🇨🇦
Thanks for all your support
Great instruction Danny. Your bunker play video really helped me with my sand shots and indeed for high lofted shots around the green.
@richardcutt727 thank you 🙏🏻 that’s great well done 👏 Glad my video has helped you 👍🏻
I kind of stumbled into this on my own over the last month with a new address process. Glad to have some reason to what already felt right
Awesome to hear Sean
this video was tremendously helpful on the first swing. the biggest hole in my game is the mid irons.
I love the step drill, super natural
Danny, you’re my favorite TH-cam instructor. Stay on Pete’s path! We are getting better simultaneously. Cheers!
Great tip again, as usual I can’t wait for the spring to get out there and trying this
Just around the corner
I went to the range today and pushed my hands away to maintain structure and square my club face. I hit high straight long irons shots! ⛳️☄️💥🏌️♂️Danny you’re seriously the best instructor on TH-cam! Thanks from the Pacific Northwest 🌊🏔️in the States 🇺🇸!
Thank you 😁 appreciate you taking the time to give feedback
I used this simple technique this weekend and played my best golf for ages - 38 stableford points - thanks Danny - I’ve saved this video to my favorites to remind me how simple this game can be👍
Brilliant Nigel well done 😁
Great video Danny. As usual, you explain things in a simple and understandable way. Well done.
@davemorris556 thank you so much. Glad you enjoyed it 🙏🏻
Danny, another cracking video and great explanation of how the arms are suppose to move. Thanks for sharing. Cheers.
My pleasure, thanks so much for your support each week
Thank you Danny, I will work on this when I am in Phoenix next week! Another excellent lesson!
Have fun Steve
This lesson sent today makes me understand much better the video of you and Pete Cowan explaining how to hit the clubs correctly,
Thank you!
Awesome to hear
great video Danny....I really appreciate your videos and the time you take to make and show them. Especially the explanation.
I appreciate that! 🙏
Another gem. I’ve always accidentally cupped my left wrist hinge making a lot of problems. Closing the club by pushing my palms actually got it to bow. Brilliant
Awesome, love to hear how you get on Paul
Thank You Danny, was playing so bad I was thinking of taking up bowls 😩
This lesson was like hitting the reset button, can’t wait to hit the course tomorrow.
You got this!
Danny this has worked for my thank you so much I am an 8 handicap golfer that has just lost my way. Great content
Love to hear how you get on
This was so good! I needed this reminder. Thx Danny!
You are so welcome Kyle
Brilliant Danny. Simple, clear and nailed!
Really kind Mike thank you
Fantastic video! You were describing a lot of my golf swing problems!
Thank you 😁
Fantastic! I'm going to practice this clean structure drill. It reminds me of Hogan's illustration of a solid "structure" being held together by rope. Plus, it helps the elbows move naturally inward. I won't have to remind myself anymore. Thanks as always D.M.!
That’s it 👌
@@DanielMaude Hit some balls today, full swings, even pitch shots. I think it helped a lot just experimenting etc. Thanks again Danny!
The best and easiest to understand lessons. Danny just makes hitting the golf ball so relatable, doesn’t complicate it. Love his lessons ❤
Thank you Duanela 👍
Another great video Danny. I’ve already tapped up my towel from last week and this video reinforces the video you did with the elastic training band for pushing the hands away.❤
That’s it Terry 👌
Here’s Danny. Superb as usual. 👍
Super kind Terry, thanks for all your support
Thanks Coach…. The push away and elbow down for backswing length are golden
Danny, I am hitting the ball so much better following this...long may it continue! I now feel excited for the new season
Happy to hear it!
Great lesson Danny! Good, basic useful information.
Thanks for the support John
Thank you so much. Your advice always adds lots of great value. 😊😊😊
You are very welcome
Brilliant Danny, this really works. Thank you.
Pleasure Colin, all the best
Thanks Danny. This is such a simple explination of how to strike the ball consistently. Good job. Again. Have a good golfing week yourself!
Thank you Jim!
Brilliant, as usual, Danny, thank you! This all makes sense.
Thank you John
Oh Danny boy another amazing tip from the Golf expert himself
Thanks for the support Daniel
Great advice Danny, my Y structure can easily breakdown if I let it. Love the feeling of closer elbows at the top and trail palm pushing away to close the face. Then swing down underneath lead shoulder. Game changer for me 👍. Thanks again.
That’s it Colin
