Thanks Chris. I dont know why this is not mentioned more by online golf tutors, improved my game immeasurably. Its vital, I think sometimes they want us to fail so we come back for more, or maybe I am just an old cynic!

I really strugle(d) with my fear to hit the ground. What helps me is to hit some divots (no ball) before going on the course or driving range.

This really makes releasing the club a lot more free without worrying about topped shots. Thanks! I chunk the shots a bit, but the compression is far more satisfactory than the previous chicken wing thing i did at the bottom which caused many low fliers.

Another great lesson again thanks Chris. In view of me losing a bit of tempo recently, I’ve also been using your method of counting in my head, prior to and throughout the swing, to get it back… works a treat!
    Cheers Socks

Spot on. Allowing contact with the ground has been an obstacle for me. Practicing on mats can make it worse for me. When I'm on grass and can set up visual feedback with second tees ahead of the ball then I get solid improvements. Those drills help me get my set up better too. Off mats my set up tends to drift too far from the ball and I start picking the ball instead of compressing it.

Definitely agree that poor mats that are harsh can cause you to develop that almost fear of the ground,

Nice vid. Heard once your belt buckle moves in the "J" shape and Tiger told Scotty Sheffler he was playing his best he never took a divot

Good lesson and drills!Controlling the low point of your swing key to playing better golf. So many golfers miss this and hitting off mats and artificial turf doesn't help your iron game.

True, for us in the U.K. mats are pretty much all we have access too unfortunately

Hi Chris, I sometimes struggle a bit with the low point being too high due to elbow pain that I get from striking the mats at the driving range. Around here it’s impossible to find driving ranges where you hit from grass. Since it hurts I tend to shy away a bit from the ground and take very small divots or just brush the grass. Any tips on how I can practice on mats without getting pain and still touch the ground? Cheers!

So with this in mind, where are your eyes at impact? Are you looking at the ball or a few inches in front of it? And are your eyes in the same position for every iron and wedge shot?
