      @barbarusbloodshed6347 ปีที่แล้ว +13

Probably won't be that minimalist when it goes into production, I guess.
The current design language must have been a flop, or they wouldn't be trying to come up with a new one, as the current isn't that old. And in the light of this I doubt the executives wanna see any more "experiments" and that this new design language will make it to the market but toned down and with more classic BMW traits thrown in.
If I visualize a mix between early 2000s BMW design and this new concept I really like what I see.

If car design is actually headed toward even more minimalism, it's failing completely.
The last three or four years all indicators pointed toward a trend of maximalism.
Younger people are done with minimalism. If the car manufacturers think they can convince a young, tech-savvy audience with these minimalist designs they are mistaking.

I'd totally agree, at least in terms of interiors - it's nice to have a car that has a bit of soul/feel to it. Teslas feel very soulless, not only to drive but in the way they look both externally and internally. Tesla's new M3 refresh introduces a new interior which removes some of the minimalism and adjusts it with ambient lighting and other styling features which marginally promotes some maximalism and a detach from the minimalism.
BMW are making a grave error by trying to replicate what Tesla is doing.

The car inside is like a tram. The complete absence of automotive instruments and a steering wheel for driving in a straight line. A large, bright LCD panel shines into the eyes, diverting attention from the situation on the road. Which reduces traffic safety. 6:55 - "removing identity". I don't agree. There has been too much maximalist design leading the charge in car design lately. Grey cars with insane non-organic edges is not something I personally think is beautiful. The more minimalist and simple approach I believe is much better and keeps the design pure, focusing on identity and letting the iconic brand elements do the talking. There's nothing that says BMW about the XM design, but there is BMW in this one here.
Also; we all complained when they were doing their crazy complex designs for the past 5 years. We're starting to see the natural recoil of that backlash in these more minimalist designs coming out.

I don't envy BMW's marketing team though. They'll have their work cut out for them trying to sell the retro angular c-pillar look as cool after they've spent decades convincing consumers smooth gradual and curvy greenhouses are what's cool, aerodynamic and modern. Perhaps the styling team should borrow more the c-pillar from the E36 3er which more successfullt cut the difference and bridged the gap between the E30 and E46 greenhouses.

I believe that this new "minimalistic" design trend becoming more consistent in the 2020s going forward, it has to do with the target audience. Let me explain. Young people, Gen Z, and Alphas have grown up with new technologies, and now car brands like BMW are trying to cater to younger people who can't afford a high-end German car, so car brands will cut costs by going completely digital and make a simple exterior, interior design by reducing the effort to take time to make authentic features that constitute what an automobile should be. In other words, make cars smartphones on wheels, therefore, affordable, but also cheaply stylish. I don't think that this is a bad design per se, but it should have people's eyebrows go up and ask themselves, "Is this what we want in a car?" a car should look like its performance at the end of the day.

You made it sound like you're a Japanese brands hater but yeah I kinda agree.
Although Japan is changing too. Just look at Toyota. They're making cars simpler and nicer but not too simple that the personality is stripped away.
And their Lexus brand is doing very good things too. They look like a proper luxury/sports brand now with the simpler and sportier looks.
And also Honda has been simplifying all of their cars too making them look clean. (They do look cheaper tho, but I don't mind as long as they don't have that ugly "chrome unibrow" in the front)

@@TheBlueCreeper- Bro, how many people hate on Korean or American cars, when they're often more appealing than their Japanese rivals? My hatred for most Japanese brands stems from the fact that they get away with things other brands down.
If a Korean or American brand recalls a car, the comments pile on how these brands are terrible. But if a Japanese car brand does it, all fo a sudden, the conversation becomes, everyone has recalls so you can't criticize them.
Mazda is great, but most other Japanese brands are overrated. We've owned them all, and Ford and Kia cars tend to be a lot better than people give them credit. Many of our Japanese cars were over hyped and disappointing ownership experiences by comparison.
If Japanese brands were treated as equals to American and Korean car brands, and that's what they are, I'd respect them more. But the fact that they're often treated as superior brands has rubbed me the wrong way.

Car&Driver have a crush on Porsche and the Corvette and even they included not one, but THREE Toyotas and TWO Hondas on the Top10 cars of 2023. (The Honda Accord is a meme tho cuz they always include it in the top10 no matter what lol, but TOYOTA was the big surprise bcs C&D were always so harsh on Toyotas before.)

the rear lights look weird with your touch, dont really agree, you can spice rhe rear up with maybe some color blocking or a lip spoiler in the organic carbon stuff, different color body might accentuate the rear lights as well. I really like the interior as well, very organic, open. Kinda wish there was no huge ipad because i dont like this in your in face technology. I bet there will be darker tones as well with M-styling. Im a huge fan of this car overall as a bmw fan and e46 coupe owner

The super simplistic, sterile interiors like we have in a lot of cars these days to me actually look extremely dated. It gives me flashbacks to movies like "Minority Report" and "I, Robot". Going to car shows as a kid, all of the concept cars at those shows had interiors similar to the one seen here. It looked cool to me back then but I remember people saying things like "that doesn't look practical/easy to use" and seeing it now, I have to agree. Idk why carmakers now seem convinced it's the way of the future when they were trying it 10 or 15 years ago, when touchscreens were the latest and greatest, and it didn't even catch on back then.

If we accept the changes that the author of the video suggests, then we will not get the "New E21" concept. We will get the "New E36" concept. Which, as I understand, is planned for a facelift in 2030.

It's an ok design. Somehow reminds me of a Peugeot (I see some inspiration taken from the Peugeot e-Legend concept). The interior keep the same lame modern attitude. Check out the tactile feel of the 33 Stradale!. But the best news: it's not an SUV. Great job with your channels, btw. You make 16 minutes feel like 5.

I think BMW has to keep its two round headlights instead of some lines. Plus the L shaped backlights. These two are the main design element that define the characteristics of a BMW.

I think this is the right direction. The Germans have one problem: they can't take a step away from the old design of conventional combustion engine cars. Electric cars need to show, getting into a new era.

I kind of disagree. It does look weird as a concept, but if you give it the benefit of the doubt (and blur your eyes), it actually has very classic BMW proportions, stance, and graphics. I think it will look much better in production and recall the ‘80s and ‘90s 3-series.

Don't interiors in prototypes always look overly simplistic? Seats like carved out of rock, etc. Single shape inside. But real seats end up looking the same, because of support and functionality.
