You are probably about to enter the next phase though. I had my 120d xDrive up until 65k (bought it at 33k, 3 years old) and it didn't have any issues at all. I got my 330d xDrive on 69k which was 6 years old at the time and it was fine for a while, about a year. After that the floodgates opened, it is now on 98k and between 79ish-98k I have spent about half of the purchase price fixing it...last big job, timing chain done, so at least that is out of the way.
Speaking on behalf of my dad (we both drive the car very often) our 2021 g20 has been fantastic for us. We have the 320i spec in malaysia with the 2.0L b48 and we've got close to no issues with it so far. Even until now, there has been close to no rattles in the interior at all (I hope it continues to stay this way). The only issue was the tyre pressure sensor that would suddenly start freaking out when the tyres are freshly pumped up. I feel like many of the issues mentioned in this video occur very rarely. Fortunately, we don't do much spirited driving with the car so mechanically, there has not been any issues. Just service the car on time and replace any parts the service man suggests you to and I beleive the car will stay as good as new for a very long time.
Also from Malaysia! I've had some issues with the steering rack and cooling coil. but overall - it's a pretty decent car with little to no rattling on the interior ;)
I factory ordered a fully loaded M330i. Congac interior, laser lights, everything (before the covid module scavenge). $91k build drove it away for $73k. Owned the car for 2.5 years. The sunroof got fixed under warranty. The car was easy to live with, good on fuel. Had a true split personality, was fast-ish and dynamic when you wanted or smooth and quiet when using every day. Had the potential to be a long term disaster out of warranty I guess. The 50m back up assistant was actually really helpful in several situations. To be honest probably sold this car too soon.
My second hand 2019 g20 330i drivers window stopped working and the auto hold brake would stick on however bmw fixed all of this for free out of warranty for me including replacing the centre instrument panel I have been super chuffed with the service I’ve received thus far from adelaide bmw

Here in the States, BMW and Mercedes Benz models depreciate significantly as well. The high water mark of those cars ended in 1991 with the Mercedes W126 lineage and BMW 7 series in 2001 😢.
I have owned my 2022 330e for 5 months now. I got say it is such a nice car to drive. I chose it over the model 3 long range and byd seal. Because I needed a car that can be FBT excepted under novated lease. The driving dynamics is just so great. Because I work from home, so I can charge it all the time, so I use it like an EV basically. 80% the range is battery only. But flip it to sport mode, it can really go.
My M340 has been quite reliable. I have had two issues - the first is that the hood sometimes won't open. The stupid double click is the issue. The second problem is the inability to heat the cabin occasionally in cold climates. Likely a thermostat issue that I get ti deal with this winter.
I can never help to wonder just how much fuel is saved by an active grill to justify the cost and maintenance of having it? I suspect you’d save more fuel going to the toilet before you drive it.
Issues I’ve had with my m340i touring: (1) sunroof motor failed after 2 years (2) left wing mirror stopped tilting downwards when putting the car in reverse after 3 years, (3) rear view reversing camera was v low quality image, and useless in low light. All replaced under warranty. (4) carplay fails to initiate approx once every couple of months but usually starts working again after 30 mins or so. Annoyances: (1) auto start stop is always on by default in adaptive & comfort mode. You have to push a button to turn it off each time you go for a drive. (2) low profile bridgestone run flat tyres sit almost flush to the alloys and so kerbing the wheels is difficult to avoid
Bought a brand new g20 330i in 2019 and thankfully only ever experienced minor issues, sold it for a brand new x254 GLC 300 in 2023 since warranty expired. Well couldn't stay away for long cause that Mercedes was a nightmare and now I'm back on the G20 platform - 2024 M340i LCI.

Nice video again guys. I have considered one of these and test drove one. But bought a Lexus IS instead. I couldn’t justify buying just the Lexus without test driving the most acclaimed 3-series; every reporter/youtuber is exhilarated by this generation of 3-series so it must be good. Luckily I was able to drive a G20 without the M-Sport package and I still found that too much “alive”, it communicates a lot through the seats and what’s the road condition like. But like with most chatty people, I get tired of listening all the time. I’d prefer they shut up after half an hour. So I bought the Lexus. Talks a lot less, gives an occasional comment or nod through the seats. If I want a good conversation, I take my MX-5 for a spin. Love the Lexus, especially searched for a full specification and found one in a good condition. If I had the opportunity to buy one new, this would be the exact same spec, trim and color.

Completely disagree that over the air updates should be done away with. They just need to be rolled out correctly. Ford can do it decently, why can’t BMW. I don’t need to fight, my dealer to get big fixes updated at the dealership. Also, the wireless charge heat issue is pretty common on cars with wireless CarPlay and uncooled Qi chargers. The combination creates a very hot phone.
As much as I agree that ventilated seat are a must have feature, specially on black leather, the types taht are built into cars are next to useless. The fans are integrated into the seats so they basically just mix the hot air between your back and the seat - useless! Instead you should buy a dirt-cheap AliEx seat cover that has a fan on the outside and draws cool air from the cabin into its mesh structure. That things works wonder and, I am not kidding, is better than the actual freakin' aircon.
The fact the M340i wagon is not sold here is a cataclysmic and shameful embarrassment for BMW Australia. However, the 330i wagon is a good car and worth a test drive. Very torquey in the mid-range. SO much better than an SUV...

I have my oil done every 10,000km regardless of what the stupid book says. FWIW, I normally use an independant but they were offering a great deal at the dealer, free courtesy car and my independent euro specialist was booked out for 6 weeks.

I actually like facelift with the big screen. Exterior design is more polished, I don't really miss the buttons but it's definitely not safer to drive. Changing ventilation and stuff on the screen while driving is a huge distraction and dangerous.
Sure, but Lexus will just be worse in every single way. As in how it drives, comfort, noise, how accessories work, everything. Sure you might have to fix the BMW more often, but its just in a whole different league as a car otherwise.

I recently bought a cheap e90 325i and the parts cost is insane. Even wreckers charge way too much. It's cheaper to buy genuine BMW parts from overseas than from BMW themselves. I love the car though.
I have a G80 manual still under warranty thankfully. But valve gasket cover leaked from a sheered bolt likely from over torqueing from factory. Sunroof bricked itself. So needs a new control unit. 😅
Get the Touring. If you are going to go BMW (bloody money wasters) the Touring is the car. But even though my heart says BMW or the Alfa, the Lexus or maybe the G70 are better cars.

I've seen Jim mention cleaning out carbon build up, but I've heard a few other mechanics say it's only really an issue if there's problems w starting the car? Does it really sap that much performance that it's worth the cost? Just wondering as both my cars are 10-15 years old and have never had it done.
I have been waiting for this review because I bought a new 330i M Sport in 2019 at a considerable better price than what you would pay for one now. $70K plus on road was a bargain and the depreciation you talk about is not true in my case. The problems you mentioned in the early part of the video, apart from the slow update of software, I have never heard anything about as well as Jim's list of problems - I don't know just how accurate this information is and the source because my car has been faultless after more than 5 years. The servicing costs are very reasonable (initially $1610 for 5 years and more recently $936 for another 5 years. Compare that to a Mercedes!) This covers the owner for yearly servicing, although I make sure that the engine oil is changed every other year at approximately 10,000 kms. I agree that the pre update model with the original dash design is far better in terms of looks and operation than the later model. This model BMW certainly lives up to its reputation as the ultimate drivers machine.
BMW quality does not match that of Porsche. I have both a 22 Macan S and a 24 BMW i4 M50, both fully optioned and the quality of Porsche is so much higher. That goes for MB as well: Porsche is simply better in every way.

They used to be classy looking well built cars up until the mid 2000's. Then they became less reliable with a bigger model range. The era of the X5 was the beginning of the decline. The nicest era of BMW were the E34 and E39 5 series, very nice compared to the competition of the time. Not even remotely interested in current BMW line up.
Bmw new model same problems - it's by design. German engineers can't be so stupid - it's their management. Thanks for car reviews guys, keep up with good work!
A lot of the issues arise from bmw dealerships that are completely useless at customer service. I’m an independent mechanic in Melbourne I service a few euros. I refuse to speak with any dealership I deal directly with BMW Australia or the head office of which ever brand of vehicle. I can usually get what I need without too much hassle. The dealerships in Australia are an absolute nightmare. Always always go above their heads & deal with the company head office who will usually help out they don’t want any bad publicity.
Also servicing of any vehicle regardless of what brand it is. NEEDS to be done every 10,000k I don’t care what the manufacturer says in the handbook. Australian conditions are not normal operating conditions! If you service this or any car at least every 10k or 6mths you will remove many of the issues as they can be foreseeable & then budgeted for. Whereas skipping services and only going in at later intervals means that more needs to be done. I cannot stress this enough If you try & save money on services it will cost you more in the longer term.
Very good comment. But BMW service is not cheap if you do 6 months. Coolant issue has nothing to do with service frequency, it just happens when time comes, the transmission failure does the same. The service is only about oil and filter, how it has good sides to water bump?
@@moonsky331 that depends who you go too. I say 6 months as a guide it doesn’t mean you have to be that super strict. However. Regular servicing will help keep them in good condition for longer. A good mechanic will check over all the components & let you know hey this is getting low or you might need to monitor this a re look at it next time. There is no such thing as set & forget. Serving is cheap replacing an engine or a major part that failed because of a lack of maintenance is not. If you own a car expect to spend $$ on maintenance.

I have M440i 2022 and still has apple car play lagging and you can’t skip any songs on the steering wheels, digital radio is always cutting off.
Leather quality is so bad and has already started worn off on driving side. For now I don’t have any mechanical issues on the car
Still hanging out for W205 C Class one of the most common entry level and popular German mid sedans during 2015-2021
I recently bought a cheap e90 325i and the parts cost is insane. Even wreckers charge way too much. It's cheaper to buy genuine BMW parts from overseas than from BMW themselves. I love the car though.
You bought a £40,000 car why would you think the cost of parts would be cheap
@@ru6886 genuine BMW parts are cheap, as long as you don't buy from BMW themselves. Did you even read what I wrote?
@@mrnicktoyou but why would you still expect second hand parts to be cheap?
@@ru6886 I didn't, it was a warning to others who might.
I have a G80 manual still under warranty thankfully.
But valve gasket cover leaked from a sheered bolt likely from over torqueing from factory.
Sunroof bricked itself. So needs a new control unit. 😅
Wireless charger problem is in all cars, not just bmw
Great show. Are the 2008 to 2011 BMW 3 Series 4 cylinder engines and cars reliable?
Would have bought an M340i wagon if available. Bought an X3 M40i instead. Absolutely love it.
Get the Touring. If you are going to go BMW (bloody money wasters) the Touring is the car. But even though my heart says BMW or the Alfa, the Lexus or maybe the G70 are better cars.
Just buy BMW and enjoy, you won't like 200 years.
LV bags are heavily copied, and small cute bags with funny handles are not practical everyday bags, the kislux bag would be much more practical. Thanks again for the informative video.
I'm hoping for a Jaguar F-Type redriven episode!! Someone please make it happen
Yes, agreed! that car has been tempting me for the last couple of years actually. Even the SC V6 sound gnarly, love it.
In the meantime you can watch all the F-Type reviews I made
@maz500 OH, well I'll start doing that right now, thanks
They reviewed a Jaguar XE a couple of years ago and it wouldn't surprise me the similar issues it has will afflict a F type.
@@tomnewham1269Different engine options. The problematic 4cyl diesel of the XE is not available in the F type. The F type also has a incredible 5 litre. I also find this channel beats the Jag issues up a little, (However, the diesel ingenium does deserve it though).
Great review, as always. I'm lucky to count myself subscribed to your channel. In terms of performance, which do you think offers more, the G70 V6 or M340i Xdrive?
Got a 2023 m550i if your keen to do a review on it bro
Looks like that's gonna be my next car, the M340i. My current C43 AMG wagon is sexy and all but DAAAAAMN it's thirsty... 12L/100km in town is just wild
IS350 for me. Lexus finally got the spindle look right. And then Lexus stopped makiing them.
They got discontinued in Australia because they didn’t meet Australian standards for side impacts
Tho personally I would definitely rather a Lexus than a bmw because their interiors are higher build quality and more unique and it still scored very high in ancap’s side impact test

I like the LCI update with large screens.
Need more BMW content fellas! Any plans for an E46 3 Series or E39 5 Series?
can we get a redriven on that silver mk2 escort?
Been waiting for this vid
Have had no problems with our 530e (yes it's a 5 but the engines are the same)
I genuinely do not care for active grilles, the feature having a high likelihood for failure just makes the W205 Mercedes a better alternative.
Towards the end 🔥🔥👌🏼
It’s because your prices on Oz are so hyper-inflated.
Did you ask the guy who you borrowed the car off.. Hey listen mate.. You cool with us throwing baked beans over it?.......
We thought that might be an awkward conversation, so we bought a car instead. That’s our HR-V
All of this spells frustration
Ota update issue is specific to Idrive 7 and is no longer an issue in Idrive 8 and up. Just an issue being the first gen of software to do ota
Pissed myself laughing at that caramel slice comparison
“Caramel slice”!!! 😂
First time kislux kuch different colors ka LV bag dekha..very elegant....good choice
I needed this!
I've seen Jim mention cleaning out carbon build up, but I've heard a few other mechanics say it's only really an issue if there's problems w starting the car? Does it really sap that much performance that it's worth the cost? Just wondering as both my cars are 10-15 years old and have never had it done.
Wish these came with ventilated seats
These cars are meant to be driven not going 40km 60km and 100km in sport+ not made for Australian and there ridiculous limits.
Yes, Australia is a village on steroids
Adjustable lumbar support is extra, you might need it.
Oil filter housing leaks and b48/58 cars randomly purging themselves of coolant is not uncommon. Both issues worth sorting preemptively imo
Oh and the car is much better LHD. The transmission tunnel sits hard on your left leg if you're a larger fellow or lady. RHD problem only.
BMW quality does not match that of Porsche. I have both a 22 Macan S and a 24 BMW i4 M50, both fully optioned and the quality of Porsche is so much higher. That goes for MB as well: Porsche is simply better in every way.
I'm still waiting for the mk5 supra! Please do it next as I really want one.
These cars are only 50 to 60k new in USA so paying any more than that in Australia should be a criminal offence anyway.
60k in USD is around 90k in AUD

I have an M2 comp, I know people who have BMWs, common track cars and I haven’t come across what you have in this video. Are the problems common for most complicated designed fully decked cars?
Funny how it seems like people that listen to commercial radio annoy the host almost as much as smokers 🤣
That’s exactly what I was gonna say I owned two 3 series will eventually get
A 528 XI from my dad but I don’t want it. LEXUS FTW

Bmw new model same problems - it's by design. German engineers can't be so stupid - it's their management.
Thanks for car reviews guys, keep up with good work!
What would I buy instead? In Australia, the 2010 Holden SS-V sportwagon with a manual transmission, that's what.
I cannot stress this enough
If you try & save money on services it will cost you more in the longer term.
@@anakinskywalker4113 I’m not surprised that the Melbourne dealers don’t want to talk to you as you are their opposition.
@@anakinskywalker4113 So find a trust and real mechanic is the key. most dealer does not have qualified engineers but charge a prime
