    I have that 18cm short set - Ryoba, Kataba and Dozuki - It's a good starter set if you're doing small projects, furniture or stuff that isn't thick. Which seems rather obvious to say about short saws...

    Wonder what the best saw is for cutting the little bit left inside a 90x90 post slot once you have done your skill saw cuts ? A normal euro saw does the job but kinda awkward

    Great vid, those black handled Razor saws are fantastic for fine fine cuts. The blades are only about 0.3 or 0.5mm thick.

    I have one by Stanley Fatmax and it's terrible! Well, it cuts nice for now, but it's only had absolute minimal use and already 4 or 5 teeth are missing. I've only used on very small wood cuts, and quite gently too. I'm going to look for a different brand and save the Stanley for more rugged work were I don't care if it dies.

    There are brands that cut faster and cleaner than Gyokucho. Ginnokiba, Kijima Seikou and Nakaya Eaks to name a few.

      Time isn't the problem in Japan.
      It's how perfect you can do something, they have masters in Japan.
      Which means you a min of 60 years of experience in 1 job, and it has to be proven as well with tests.

    Never really answered your own question of why japanese hand saws. Just went though the different options and what they work best for.

      The why us because they cut on the pull not the push. With a push cut if it gets difficult the cut is more likely to deviate, whereas with a pull cut you just keep pulling in the right direction.
