@@PlumbusRunner I got caught out a few times using oddball practices and products from overseas which don't suit New Zealand conditions especially here in Oamaru where the weather and climate conditions can change and vary so much. No wonder the really old tradesmen stick to their time proven practices and materials. Air conditioning and heat pumps cause a lot of problems with adhesives I find.
As an old dyi carpenter, I was taught by true carpenters to use the Stanley Powerlock (25' or 30') tapes and add the 3.0 inches of the tape box for inside measurements. Much more accurate than bending a tape. All Stanley tapes (if not other brands} have the length of the tape box written at the bottom-back. I've only used the simply +3 inches as I can't manage 3 1/4 inches or other such odd sizes. Keep up the good work. :-)
I built a TV stand and I had to use a tiny phillips screwdriver to get the last few screws in place. That next day, I bought a right angle drill bit. I have yet to use it. BUT! I have it now for when I need it!
Agree on the 'air bags' I bought a pair of Trend ones in the UK (£18 for the pair) had to fit 11 solid core Oak veneered doors, though I would try them, saved me a lot of messing about as you can use your foot to inflate/deflate them, best thing I have bought in ages

Another entertaining piece Scott, Paerau and Cam! Keep up the great work guys. Just something which might be worth considering re the decoder hide-away. While I can't be sure about the current kit, but some decoders can get surprisingly toasty during normal operation. Add a humid Auckland summer and it might be worth considering ventilation holes/slots underneath the shelf perhaps? Ideally then a little more space around the hatch for the warm air to flow up and out through. Acheiving the latter without ruining the look may well be a bit of an ask however.
Scott, Thoroughly enjoying binge watching your videos!; got kick out of this one as the pocket saw is one of my absolute favourites (from Lee Valley here in Canada); used the CA glue and accelerator often when I was doing stage carpentry (before pandemic stopped play!). Also have the identical right angle drill attachment which came with a ratcheting handle, bit set and sockets.
been using the air wedge "branded air bag here in the UK" since i started my apprenticeship 4 years ago. we also use it to wedge the top roller draw shut in the work van because for some odd reason they all lock apart from the top. anyway, awesome video, love the tape measure.
I have two new ones for you.. Leica Disto D2. I can't be without it now. Measures super quick, very accurate and allows you to add up measurement with the laser itself. Need to measure a heap of footings for concrete? Walk around and shoot each hole pressing + between each measurement. Need to do a quick but accurate run off for skirtings/arcs? Walk around the house and shoot each room pressing "+" between each measurement. Shoots to me accuracy, brilliant for for fitout or measuring between to walls. Also, I know you had a tape on your list. But try a tape with a rubber grip (Stanley fatmax etc). You can use the rubber to erase pencil. Super handy when doing fine carpentry work. 👍👍
I also love my air wedge, got one to test it out, now deciding if I need another 1 or 3. Right angle bit also rocks, so useful assembling furniture, where I'd never get a drill/driver or impact driver in to tight spaces otherwise. With my tape measures I have to add on 80mm if I want to do full span, having the extra marking would save that addition I suppose but not to difficult for me and I have 5 of them all the same so would be expensive to replace them, (They are Stanley FatMax ones and were 2 for a tenner at Screwfix, but really good solid tapes). Superglue is very useful as temporary bonding but I will only use it for light stuff of permanent, that's probably because I have a tendency to over build things due to a lack of formal engineering training, but that's fine for DIY where I'm happy to pay a little more for materials than if I was doing it professionally and have something over spec'd for the job. I built the master bed out of 195x45 lumber and can now, if I want swing off the shelves round the headboard and land on the bed and everything is fine, just fine. Love your work, and delivery as usual.
Craig Hastie good to know I’m not the only one using a right angle attachment for furniture assembly. I once assembled a bed and the lady was amazed how quickly I got it done. “It took the movers an hour and a half to take it apart” well it only took me 30 minutes to put it together, including accidentally putting one piece on backwards and having to correct it.
I've seen that air wedge used to get people's windows pried open to unlock their cars (when they locked their keys in the car, not for theft). Useful thing that I would never have thought to use as an adjustable shim.

I already have or actively use something similar to three of them. I own, but don't often use a rather cheap right angle drill adaptor. Air wedges are great. I'm liking the ultra-thin circular saw blade (I don't have one) I do use Pull saws, including the one based on Edding snap-off blade holders. I don't use CA glue much. But I do use a hot-melt glue gun for repairs, more than I expected. Good ideas from 6ou as always.
I have a little saw like that but the metal cutting blade busted. Never could find another tool like it. It was a handy go to saw. I'll have to check out that brand.

I have a Stanley Fat Max tape in Metric. It has the width of the tapes body scrbed into the side so you can just add the to the measurement on the tape. Problem is it's in imperial... Nice one Stanley...👍
Hey scott, for that saw knife I recommend you check out the olfa CS-2 or there is the CS-5 which has a thinner blade for tighter cuts. The CS-2 is admittedly not the best ergonomically (its pretty much a straight piece of aluminum so it is pretty unbreakable with channels cut in it for the blades) but I use it myself on wood drywall and plastic it absolutely lunches anything but metal and I got my business partner onto using one he's very happy with it too. It basically has 2 blade channels one on each side and comes with one saw blade and one standard snap blade but you can have any combination of 18mm blade in you want I guess, cant tell you much about the CS-5 other than it looks like it feels better in your hand and it has a thinner blade because I've never used one but I would imagine the CS-2 is best if you make mostly straight cuts and the CS-5 is better if you make curved cuts. have a good one
If you use CA glue, just dampen one side and glue the other. Put together and walk away. I found one CA glue that it didn't work at all on. Otherwise, you're golden. I just have to edit this in, concerning the floating shelf, which came out fantastic. The first time I had to build a knee wall (short wall about 4' high, basically unsupported), it moved if you leaned on it. I tried all ways to stabilize it and finally hit on a way. This is very similar to your floating shelf. I glued the drywall onto it. Whenever anyone leaned on it, it tried to stretch the drywall from the bottom to the top. You can't stretch drywall or plywood. If you feel you need more strength on those shelves, use a bead of panel adhesive along the front and rear beams, top and bottom. The next day, you will feel the difference.

It's interesting to see that ruler in millimetres too. In Europe, most rulers are expressed in cm, even though carpenters and mechanics use mm normally. But construction and regular folk uses cm. Sometimes it causes issues with communication between masons and carpenters, or between a client and a carpenter. Though luckily it's just a factor 10 off, so you can easily figure out the correct measurement. Having every ruler in mm would move everyone to just use that scale.
Check your other tape measures. Most of them have the size on the side, so that when you butt your tape up to the wall or whatever you measure, you read what the measurement is and then add the length of the tape container and you have the total measurement....well.... Here in Europe all the tape measures that I've used, have the size printed on the side.
By CA glue, do you mean Cyanoacralyte, the chemical name for superglue? That's a house hold thing in the UK and even sold at poundland although in very small tubes. Never heard of a hardening accelerator for it though as I thought it dried quite quickly anyway.
Ive been lookin for ages. I cant find or think a proper description for the specific thing the tape does.. why do all tapes not come like that. Lufkin is the brand name and they are australian. But cant seem to find a uk seller or another brand which you can measure from the end of the handle

Coupla things: If the sky box is going in there, will the remote still work? Also, where is it going to vent to? It'll need airflow to avoid cooking itself.

I use the 25’ Stanley standard because the casing is an exact 3” and measuring for cabinets between tapered walls it is a must have for me

I have the Wurth version of that air vedge. It's used to open gap on vehicle doors so I can feed wire in to pull latch open.

CA glue is just superglue, you can make a kicker for it out of baking soda and water, it neutralises the acid which is what slows down curing time

Several japanese companies make pocket razor saws. I have 2 from Olfa and 1 from NT Cutter. Love japanese brands.

I thought most measuring tapes had the size of the block on it, but i like the measurement showing on the tape saves having to an extra bit of maths

In the Uk we tend to use MitreFast instead of CA glue, same principle just the spray is the activator and the whole thing is fixed in 10 seconds

on the back of all tapes you should have find an adding size of „body” to yours measurement so you dont have to bend it anymore
