Is the 2024 Nissan Sentra a BETTER new compact sedan than a Toyota Corolla?

  • FIRST LOOK: The Sentra is getting some updates for 2024. On the outside there is a new front fascia, grill & wheels. On the inside there are zero gravity seats and a flat-bottom steering wheel. Under the hood is a 2.0L inline-4 paired to a CVT. Is the 2024 Nissan Sentra a BETTER new compact sedan than a Toyota Corolla?

    Looks much better inside and out than the Corolla. The CVT is much improved but the stigma of passed CVT problems lingers on.
    Nissan has to be aware this keeps a lot of potential buyers from even looking at the car in the first place.

      @@scott8238I believe that is the key with CVT’s is maintenance-fluid changes every 30,000 miles like it says too. I have owned 6 Mitsubishi all bought new and now 1 Nissan and they all came with a CVT produced by Jatco. My 3 Mitsubishi Mirages (2015, 2017, 2021) and my Nissan Kicks (2023) all use the Jatco CVT-7 unit with just different tuning between Nissan and Mitsubishi. The Jatco CVT-7 has been reliable overall. Our Mitsubishi Outlander Sport (2016) and our two Mitsubishi Eclipse Crosses (2019’s) also used Jatco CVT’s but a different model. Years back they had a tons of bugs with Jatco CVTs especially in Nissan but most all of the issues have been worked out. Alot of the issues you see are due to poor maintenance, running the car like crazy, or not changing the fluid every 30,000 miles like it says to.

    Yes Raiti! The price is why I love this car. While others complain about the CVT (which they fixed awhile ago) and it being a Nissan, I find this affordable, well packaged car to be a win. Nissan also ranks higher than Hyundai in reliability surveys, so they’re in a good ballpark. Also, the interior is very premium.

I was willing to give it a try as both the Versa and Sentra knock out their competition in virtually every other category. Personally, I think it's better than the Corolla. Better than the '24 Civic or Elantra? No. But that's my opinion. However, this particular trim level will cost about $25 to $30K depending on extra features. Last spring I recall going to my local Nissan and showing interest in a 2023 Sentra SR, white/w black roof. The price quotes they give me were insane. After a few minutes I got up and walked out! No more Altima? I think you mean the Maxima.

    The Japanese and Koreans have got the family sedan market on lockdown. People say sedans are dying out, well, that doesn't seem to be entirely true now does it? It still seems like sedans are going strong and while they all may not scratch the enthusiast itch, it's nice to acknowledge their existence and place in the automotive world. Especially names like the Civic, Accord, Camry, Corolla, etc., which have been around for decades at this point.

    I really don’t like the facelift to be honest. The prior generation looked more eye catching in the front. Also, not having a digital gauge on a higher trim like the SR cheapens the interior

    • @fortheloveofnoise
      @fortheloveofnoise 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Digital gauges cheapen the interior, it is cheaper to make digital screen gauges than actual analog gauges nowadays. They make it seem like it is such a luxury, but it is actually a downgrade. You don't need all those extra gimmicks in the screen, and even if you want them, just make them accessible in the central touch screen.
