The 2024 Nissan Sentra Is the Best Compact Bargain Sedan

- After being unimpressed with the Nissan Altima, Derek Spartz relucantly drives its smaller sibling - the slightly refreshed 2024 Sentra. In a big surprise, the Sentra may be the best sedan in Nissan's lineup! On top of this, it's also about 10% less than its Japanese competitors in the segment. If you own a Sentra, please share your experiences in the comments!

The new Sentra is the best deal in the car buainess. I bought my wife a 2024 for her birthday and she loves it!!!
@@it1988a glad to hear and I agree with you!
22 SR with "all" options ticked, blue/black 60k miles running like a champ
@@Blacksharq nice what was final price?
My associate just bought his son (co-bought) a '24 Sentra SV ... It is *fantastic* ... I've even driven it. It is incredibly smooth, for the class .. Has heated seats and remote start.
Sentra would be a great first “new” car - was honestly impressed with it for the price. Thanks for watching!
It is smooth to drive I have a 23 with midnight edition package and I had led fog lights and headlights and led turn signals in the mirror I changed my reverse lights to led and my tag lights to led and they Sentra is actually small but bigger inside in the maxima in the rear I can’t explain it I have a 23 maxima sr as well and 4 ppl can’t fit car unless you don’t have rear seat passengers and the Sentra trunk isn’t really that big like the dude said in the review it’s built funny
My only concern with this car is the CVT, if Nissan hadn’t had a horrible experience with their CVTs in the past, I wouldn’t consider any other car, but I’m sure things have improved since then
@ammarisrar2005 basically most compact car nowaday are cvt, if mecedes start approving people with 300 score, their reputation would be ruined too
@ ALL the car companies were, in 2019. That’s why they aren’t giving car loans, now.
I just bought a 2024 Sentra SV, I’ve been driving for two weeks now, my first impression is that it’s a great little car, it’s spacious, very quiet in normal driving conditions, it handles the road very well, the interior it’s very nice, the engine power it’s very good, it’s not a sport car but definitely it’s a very quick little car, very fun car to drive, and the gas mileage could be great but I’m getting only around 21mpg on the city because it’s so hard not to accelerate, I can tell that Nissan can easily make this car into a sport cart just by adding a turbo, the platform of this car it’s very balanced and stable definitely a sport car platform.
I look into a Toyota Corolla before I buy this car but the interior it looks much better on the Nissan Sentra and the extended warranty of 10 years or 100,000 miles was included in this car at no extra cost.
@@gerardoespinoza7202 glad you like it! Funny enough, I just got done driving about 1,000 miles on a Corolla and the Sentra is better in my opinion. Thanks for watching!
Anyone can get a bad credit loan with anyone. Its not just Nissan. Hell, people with good credit are paying ridiculous $600-$1000 monthly car payments they can't really afford.
For sure! The stereotype is Nissan, but it happens across most every brand.
@Petrolectric. I always enjoy listening to honest well educated adults that know what they're talking about and has people's best interests at heart!
@@johnathenbates2929 thanks! Most of the car channels just do super cars which are cool too but most people drive regular cars haha
I bought SR in monarch orange/black color yesterday. I love it!
@@Diabolic-i9f congrats!
My first car was a 240SX so I'll always have a soft spot for Nissan. I wish they'd bring back the Sentra SE-R but make it a little more grown up and refined. Here's hoping Nissan will continue to improve and get back to the reputation they once had.
Dang I wanted a 240sx so bad for my first car and never happened /:
An SE-R with a 6 speed would be fun 😂
Back in August I started looking for a new smaller good mpg car and I drove the versa, sentra, corolla, forte, and the elantra. I liked the Sentra the best out of them all so I rented one for two weeks to go on a longer trip with and I got an incredible 45 MPG with the adaptive cruise control set to 70 mph the whole way. With the 12.4 gal tank, that is some great range! Drives great for a little economy car and was really comfortable too. I know Nissan has some blemishes in its reputation from recent years, but I am hoping that they are back on the up and up. Two days ago I got a great deal on one of the last 2024 Sentra SR's on the lot and I love it so far. I also agree with you that the Altima was just so-so. I remember the engine being lazy, buzzy, and loud. Sentra is way better for less money.
@@anman366 glad you like it too! Good luck with your SR!
As an immigrant to Canada from Sri Lanka, I like value cars very much (Missing Japanese Hatchbacks, kei cars so much) So I got a Versa SV which is perfect for me 🤟
I have your car (24 SV w/o the premium pack). If you use the Eco mode and don't drive like a madman you'll do better in the MPG department. I find I can get 29-30 in town, in mixed city/hwy I get around 35 and in all highway I can get around 42 mpg. This isn't the "get there first" car but I've been very happy with mine so far.
@@biobrat86 that’s pretty decent mileage for a non-hybrid these days.
Auto start stop has to meet certain conditions to function. If your hvac is set to heat or cool the car and it hasn't reached the desired temp the car will always run, if the battery is in a semi low voltage state it will also run to charge it.
Was odd, I’ve never driven a car that I remember with auto start stop engaged not using it and then at totally random times without changing settings would. Must’ve been some kind of guideline In The system that wasn’t met. I personally hate auto start stop anyways, especially if it locks the steering wheel when it cuts engine off
If you go SV premium, you get a fold down armrest and cup holders.
Now we all know why you haven’t managed to get more than 23 MPG on thencar
@@husnaindodhy7839 when’s it’s not my car, I tend to drive like it’s not my car
@@petrolectric that's an adequate enough explanation
my '23 SV rental was a very livable little car but fairly big on the inside. the seats were flat and tolerable for long trips, needed more lumbar support though. the ride quality was decent over most roads but choppy on segmented pavement or lumpy pavement. road noise was very well suppressed for this class of car, even coarse pavement was filtered out well. wind noise was moderate. overall NVH was pretty good considering the price. the only question mark is the durability of the CVT over time, if it could make it over the 100k mark or not without an overhaul.
@@ivanwashington3186 yeah that’s exactly what I thought. 0-100k miles I think this is a great choice and huge value
Make sure to do 30,000 mile transmission fluid changes and it'll make way past 200,000 perhaps even 300,000.
3:10 Sentra has better panel gaps and fit and finish than the flagship Maxima
I was really impressed with the fitment for this price point!
My wife had an 08 with a 5 speed rear shocks blew out at 60k miles radio went out at 70k miles all the clear coat started peeling off by the fourth year head gasket blew at just under 100k one of the cylinders started m8ssing ck engine light came on started using coolant, but it never left us stranded
Dang that’s a lot of major stuff before 100k! The new one feels much more solid then previous gens, hopefully it’ll make it to 100k fairly trouble free
I bought a new Sentra in '87. Worst car ever! Started to self destruct around 60k. Gave it to my old man and he had to put $2k in it to get it up to scratch. Never bought another Nissan.
Yeah my sister had a 90s Nissan Maxima the struts cost arms to replace.
Great Job and if your 6’3” then this should work for me and my family ❤
@@scottreszek384 yes it’s surprisingly roomy inside! Test one out and lemme know how it goes
Just bought one of these for my daughter… sentra sv 23 k out the door price…would be interested to hear what others paid…hers also had a winter package heated steering wheel seats etc…
@@princeofpeaceproductions3506 congrats! Sounds like a decent price - hope you like it!
Brand new ?? 2024/2025 SV?? That's a great OTD price... where?? Lol
make sure to clean intake valves your dealing with a direct injection motor those are a different animal than a regular port injected engine
I wrecked my 2016 Juke Nismo RS about a week ago and looking to get the Sentra or Altima SR cause I’m a Nissan fan my first car at 18 years old were the 1988 Pulsar oh by the way I still got my 2014 370 touring 😀
@@SunsyloSouvannaraj-rh6zm let me know what you get!
@@petrolectric I kinda want the Altima SR turbo but hate to high monthly payments beside I got the 2014 370 touring that had been paying off for almost 5 years now my Juke Nismo RS were also payoff little over 2 years
I had 99 altima 5 speed manual, very fun and soft ride. It's the economic luxury/Sport beater if you can find one.
Fortunately in Canada we can get this in S or SR trim with a 6 speed manual. That is the only way I would ever buy a Sentra.
Oh nice! Would be a fun car with a manual - Americans would rather text n drive than shift 😂
I bought an orange 2023 SR manual. Amazing!
It’s all good right till that CVT goes out in the second year.
They’ve reworked it for 2024 and is supposedly much more durable… time will tell!
change the trans fluid every 30k and its solid. problem is most people who buy these dont care to do the service so buying used is tricky
@ didn’t realize the interval was that often… but if it keeps the trans from going out before 150k or so worth it!
@@petrolectric even my 2009 vw with the asin auto is a torque converter. Technically its a "sealed: trans no need for service but if you want it strong you should change the fluid every 50k. I wouldnt trust a transmission unless it was serviced every 50k mininum
Actually, best compact bargain sedan goes to the Nissan Versa. No clue why Nissan is even bothering with the Sentra at all. Seriously, keeping the Sentra in Nissan's line-up would ONLY make sense if Nissan offered a Turbo-charged engine option for it. They don't. Still don't. Should have done that years ago on the Sentra!
@@dauntlessasmr7910 actually haven’t driven the latest generation of Versa yet… glad to hear you like it. Maybe bring back the Sentra SE-R using the Altimas turbo engine? That could be fun!
The Sentra is far more popular than the Versa
A buddy has the current Versa and I have driven it recently, then drove the new Sentra. Not even close. The Sentra is way better in every way.
@@scottpeters8640
Except price! Yeah, that's kind of an important one.
@@ammarisrar2005
If we're talking bargain, the Versa easily beats the Sentra.
Isn't the Cadillac CT4 considered a compact sedan? Its competition are the BMW 2-series and Audi A3.
@@norwegianblue2017 not sure what a Cadillac has to do with a Nissan? Two very different classes even if they’re similar in size.
@@petrolectric Just replying to your statement that there is not one compact American sedan anymore.
@@norwegianblue2017 ah ok! Yeah I guess that would count (although in a way different price league haha)
@@petrolectric A blinged out Sentra with all options is only about $3k less than a base model Cadillac CT4. But yeah, different target audience.
I’m getting my 16 years old this or the kicks.
@@faytantan164 if you don’t mind slightly used - check out the Rogue Sport too, I reviewed it on my channel and really liked that as well
I bought a 2024 Sentra SV about 5 weeks ago. I bought it because it was affordable and has as standard equipment blind spot, rear cross traffic with braking, adaptive cruise control, pedestrian detection and auto emergency braking. Mine also has heated front seats, heated steering wheel, and dual climate zone. That package only added about $600. It’s fun to drive and I have to admit I really love it. I’m averaging just over 34 mpg in my normal mix of driving. 😊
@@grbugge awesome glad you like it! Such a bargain… I’m driving a Corolla base now and so many features missing the Sentra had!
My 2024 SV is a rolling vibrator and the new improved cvt is horrible and the dash and door rattles started at 50 miles on the odometer.

@@Rick-h4u maybe you got a lemon because I experienced none of that - car was amazingly smooth for the price point
No one took the Trey bc they don’t come with a Trey. I purchased mine on Amazon
That’s so crazy because there’s a lip for it and they don’t even give one - how cheap 😂
@@petrolectric yeah I don’t understand tht either lolol. I have the S 2024, great car. If someone wants a sports car then the sentras are not the car for u. I feel ppl are to harsh on the POV reviews. Gets u from point A to B has a sporty feel and the CVTs has gotten a lot better. I think ppl say they don’t like CVTs just say it bc everyone else says it.
Stigma? My credit wasn't that great an my interest rate was 10%
There’s a lot of people on the internet that like to assign Nissan owners to having bad credit. It’s a thing
Understandable but it is kinda crazy.
It's actually a real thing , my credit was in the 600s when I got approved for a new versa at a Nissan dealer and the total price after all the BS fees and interest was over 36k 😮 that's 2x what the car was worth
2:57 Yeah lets dog bash on Hyundai just so you can glorify Nissan
@@etvow I’m not a fan of modern Hyundais and have expressed that in many videos - their driver aids are extremely flawed and I’d say borderline dangerous.
The CVT transmission goes out and very expensive to fix
I mentioned that several times In the video
@@petrolectric They don't, in these cars ... You're talking about something way in the past.
Not if you follow the manufacturers recommended maintenance intervals. There's tens of thousands of Nissan cvts in North America with over 200k miles on the original transmissions. They sell over half a million a year at least.
Nissan's CVTs are way more reliable. CVTs in other brands such as Toyota, Honda, etc., can have issues no different than Nissan if you don't take care of the car, not taking it in for its routine scheduled maintenance.
Replace the CVT fluid every 20K-25K miles & don't drive it like a race car, assuming the CVT design isn't flawed/defective, & it will last a long time. People who never change their CVT fluid because they fall for the "lifetime fluid" marketing scam are the ones who usually have CVT problems.
Nissan is crap
