    In the mid 90's I broke out with a 65 Red Face exactly like yours. Ran it all those years with the R57, its on there to this day and still works. I made a lot of money with that machine and she never let me down. I don't drag leads down the road anymore but I still got her and she will never be for sale! Every time i hear that flathead 4 cyl jump to high idle it makes me smile.
    You have learned your machine well and made all the correct upgrades. Your overall knowledge of machine and welding is impressive young Skywalker. Your going to make a good welder one day. From an old school rig hand, you have my respect.

    It's a beautiful machine it's a Miller killer nothing like the SA 200 it's a true American legend that lasts my freind has a 56 lincoln and won't sell it to me I don't blame him keep our craft alive folks

    keep hustlin man. I started out with a 57 on a trailer, dragging it with my TJ wrangler for a while. dont let anyone put you down cause you aint got a rig built yet, we all started somewhere.

    I only change oil twice a year on '79 gas continental, and my 200D pipeline kubota. Each with heavy use, synthetic 5w30 year round in cold Canada.

    Amazing video an explanation brother. You can tell you take pride in this craft and put in the work to gain the knowledge.     In the spirit of putting as much info as possible for these old Lincoln's since there's very little of it out there I want to add this problem/solution I recently ran into:
    If you put a distributor on your machine make sure your coil is well secured. My machine doesn't have a tapped hole one of the side you install the bracket to hold the coil, I could only secure one side between the oil filter bracket and the block. Shoved the coil down and bent the bracket enough where it wouldn't move and thought nothing of it until my machine kept shutting down one day. Turns out my coil shook loose and turned about 90° and the ground wire arced off my oil filter. I secured it again with tape and checked for a few weeks and it didn't move again even though it melted the tape a bit. Long ass story short...a few months went by and I lost arc from my distributor because the module was fried. After talking to an old head Lincoln mechanic I determined that short out from months earlier had to have been the cause of the failure since I was very careful to disconnect all power when I did the mag to distributor swap a year earlier. I think the short on my oil filter was enough to cause damage but not totally kill the module like it would if I had dropped the ground when installing (if I didn't disconnect the batt and on off switch which you really need to do for that upgrade). Anyway hope this helps someone down the road I've been saved by random comments on videos before. Good luck and keep burnin!

    And also make sure that the rack is in the proper position if your rack is out of position it will extinguish in the lower amperage adjustment on fine adjustment if your rack is adjusted correctly you can do a lot lower amperage adjustment with the find current if it's out of adjustment it will extinguish every time

    That's a nice welder, you did a nice job. One thing I noticed is the plastic fuel shutoff and the filter is after the shutoff. I don't know if you will have problems but I have had those plastic shutoff valves leak on many pieces of equipment, as well as having fuel starvation due to plastic fuel filters being placed after the shutoff. When the engine runs and the fuel shutoff gets turned the fuel in the line, filter, and carb get burned and that can create a vacuum when the engine dies. That vacuum can collapse those cheap filters and cause fuel starvation when you need to run the machine. To mitigate that I put the filter in front of the shutoff, another option may be to use a higher pressure fuel filter meant for a small car or truck. These are just suggestions, I might have to restore my old engine drive welder.

      @@relentlesswelding15 @3:20 Idk where your at but where we are in VA near WV and MD borders, there’s several places to buy straight gas from several different stations. Depending on how far a station is away from you, I highly recommend using straight gas.
      My personal welder is a TB 302 and I swear I can hear a big difference in the straight gas vs ethanol. Definitely when there was old ethanol gas in it before.
      All that said regardless. You have a great career ahead of you! Don’t stop busting your ass and reaching for your limits because the more relationships and networking you build will pay off immensely down the road! Best of luck!

      Ahh i see. I’ve actually heard a few gripes about fuel from IL. As far as Diesel anyway. It varies from state to state, Based on state standards. I found out when I was researching problems with ULS diesel on mechanic/ truck forums. But yeah definitely look it up!

    Have a SA 200 red face won’t strike a arc even after replacing brushes . Only get a little spark. Anyone have any idea what’s going on?

    Nice video bro. Cool upgrades. I wonder what ur oil change interval is after your mods? Also, is the oil filter upgraded? Because I wouldn't think that just adding that oil cooler would allow for longer change intervals...

      Yes the oil filter is a larger canister filter instead of a small cartridge filter that it would have came with originally. The lines have also been upgraded to 1/4 instead of 1/8 to increase volume. Once I finish building the machine I will be sending out oil samples for analysis every 50 hours to see what my interval will be

      I've just plain googled Lincoln serial number list... the list it gave me was damn near EVERY welding machine they've built. Tombstones to engine drives.

    I would love to buy a sa 200 red face but I’m just starting up will it be worth the investment for side work and oil field work as well? Can you run grinders and a mig machine off that welder ?

      Probably better machines out there for quick repairs. There is enough auxiliary power to run a grinder but that’s it. It’s made for pipeline and has the best arc characteristics.

      I run mine for doing repairs and stairway fabrication. Like he said definitely better machines out there for the application but these things are beasts. It depends what you can pick up as far as knowing if it will be worth it. Mine cost $3k and then another $7k to rebuild it after a year. A brand new Hobart champion elite costs $3-4k. If you don’t know which way to turn a wrench don’t get a 200, but if you know how to work on stuff and don’t mind maintaining it, go find a decent one and screw all the naysayers.

    1965 oils was not so good, for this they ask more often changing. now with fully synthetics you can keep them longer

    What is the difference between a red and black face ?

      Biggest difference is red face has copper windings and has arguably better arc characteristics.
      Black face has aluminum windings and don’t have the heat sink the copper windings have. If you do a lot of welding you may have to turn up the fine current (ocv) to get the same weld characteristics. Once the windings cool it will weld the same again.

      @@relentlesswelding15 right on I keep my 82' blackface at 91 or so and it welds great, but I put a distributor on mine. Slick machine man and good job getting it running right. I know what it is to own an SA, you have to be half a mechanic to own one if it's paying your bills. I think I'm damn near full mechanic 🤣.

    Full Bridge rectifiers have been used in welding machines ever since welding machines have been built if you get back in the early nineties like 91-92 on Onan powered Bobcat 250 there's only one of the welding machine that I can compare that way be SAE 350 that are currently owned the newer inverter machines are trash Bobcat 260 wouldn't give you $0.50 for it 90% are y'all not going to weld no damn pipeline you going to need a machine that you can combat Arc blow with SA-200 might be a badass pipeline machine but I wouldn't give you $0.50 for one of them in a structural field I'll take a bobcat 250 any day don't have to spend massive amounts of money on a structural machine

      You are right about that. It is probably not worth it unless you Pipeline and less that 10%of welders will ever do that. To everyone else it’s just a piece of history.
      The welder makes the weld and not the machine.
      Very curious how to combat arc blow with a newer machine?
