hey taylor I just started practicing downhill and the root and hotpass and fill with 6010 I do great, but when I use the 5/32 pipeliner 8010 it seem to always get stuck for me on the side and bottom of the pipe. What are something than could cause that? I run it at 130 amps so I don’t believe that’s to cold.
ima young guy in the game nd the best piece of advice i was ever told frm my og coworker "sometimes for a youngin you just gotta shut your mouth nd listen to the older generation to get ahead in life" nd thats why i watch these videos for tips nd tricks
I worked as a maintenance mechanic for many years. Like an old farmer,I got used to 6011, 1/8 inch for everything. Clean, dirty, rusty, muddy, in the field, any position.
I am from Mexico and I don't imagine that in Ireland you can't get some things like that that are easily available in Mexico, considering that your country is first world. Regards.
Over the years I've welded with a lot of different processes, oxy acet, stick, mig, dual shield, tig, subarc, yata yata. My favorite rod is probably 7018 (so long as it's kept in a hot box). Some of my co-workers used to marvel at my overhead and vertical skills, to which I'd reply, it's all about mind over matter. If you don't mind, it don't matter. No, seriously, if you are able to relax and not stress out about the position, it all becomes a lot easier, and your welds will reflect your state of mind.
Nice video, Not to long ago at work I was criticized about trying to stick weld everything. I suck at Tig , seldom Mig but 7018 well that's my thing. Thanks again
tig welders think they some hot sh*t, realistically you can get by without doing any tig, plus who wants to be dealing with all those gasses, pedals, hoses, tanks, cups, filler rods, electrodes, settings and everything else it takes to tig, on top of that it’s the slowest process known to man. i could care less about the lgbtq colored rainbow they sometimes get on their welds 😂
Hi Chris! Good to see a video from you sir. My favorite rod is .045 Lincoln 71A85 Ultracore ( gas shielded flux core) but, if I have to stick weld; being a structural kinda’ weldor, it’s 7018.
Great videos Taylor. I’ve been welding for over 30 years. I rigged up in 06 and been pressure welding since then. I’ve done a few small pipeline jobs but mostly been doing facility new construction. I started teaching welding a few years ago and I love it. So I’m in the field for half the year and teaching the other half. Thankfully it’s been the cold half. lol. You have a great style and ease of explaining what you’re doing. You’re helping a lot of people in and out of the trade. Ive had a couple of stingers like the one you have. Amazon calls them European style electrode holders. I’ve been using the Stinger V for the past 10 years now. Love that stinger. I just wanted to say hi and tell you I appreciate the work you’re doing.
Chris!!! good night brother all the way from NY, I am a season pipeliner and its still such a pleasant time watching you do what you do best, very nice, I hope you land a huge one in the oil fiald of LA I would not mind working for you brother stay safe you're good man.
Thanks brother I appreciate that. I always love hearing from the men that have been in the field doing what we do. Thanks for being here and thank you for the kind words.
Funny thing you mention that about the flux core. I have used lots of flux core, both self sheilding and dual shield. Getting porosity was seldom a problem with the right wire and settings. Sometimes the odd worm track with self shielding flux core. But the only time i recall getting porosity is when there is dirt/sand on the metal or on magnetic pipe. But its also a different technique to weld flux core as compared to mig or stick.
@TaylorWelding it could also be the wire or the settings. It runs on DCEN polarity. Opposite of mig. For self shielding you need a further stick out on the wire. The wire can absorb moisture from the air over time too which can cause porosity. So an old roll sitting in the welder can go bad over time. Plus not all flux core wire is created equally. Some manufacturers have good quality all the time while others have poor quality control. One roll will be good and the next 💩 and won't weld good no matter how hard you try.
Back in the day when I smoked rods on a regular basis we used 11018, they burn really well and give that extra tensile strength to hold most anything….
That's a slick tip. I wish I would have known that when I did my c ticket , it would have saved me lots of deep painful burns. Thanks Cris , you have an awesome day✌
Good info in this video,Little tips like this go along way in a welding career,Thank you ...............................................................Fort Worth,Tx
I never asked because I knew you had most of your experience and knowledge developed on 6010, 7018, and 8010. Doesn't take long to get that if you're old-school and know how to "study a channel" (see/search videos on a channel with good content). But I'll listen and see what you say again. I've got a stack of 6010 (haven't burned it since high school) because this machine will run it, but right now there's an HF start issue on the TIG side and I'm not done sorting that out yet. Glad I have a 3-year warranty.
I'm a small time mobile welder who absolutely loves stick. It's way easier to do things like "long arc" and manipulate the rod to do what you want it to... but.. self sheilded flux core makes short work of a job like that. It's definitely the rust. I'm assuming you were using e71t-11 and it is a lot like 7018 in the fact that it's way happier with a clean surface. It even gets angry when you try to weld over the slag it leaves behind whereas a 6010/8010 will eat through whatever tf. It seems to be fine with mill scale though. The beauty of e71t-11 is being able to get better penetration than a 6010 with a slightly higher tensile strength than a 7018. Granted, the 7018 has a higher yield strength at 81,000 psi with e71t-11 being 70,000 psi. Most people screw up by having the voltage too high. AWS classifies e71t-11 as a "spray type transfer", and they can achieve that with lower voltages because the wire is hollow. AWS says the optimal settings for .045 self shielded flux core is 17v and 170 wire speed. I just finished up a week long job shooting .045 flux out of a PrimeWeld Mig 180 at 18.2v and 177 wire speed with awesome results. I was rebuilding 1/4" thick i-beam columns and it was laying in smooth with a hiss. Very little spatter that were tiny bbs. The best part is time saved brother. I love stick but the flux is growing on me very quickly. Great video as always.
Just found your channel, I love your content! I'll make sure to watch all of your videos, looking forward to the next time you upload! Hopefully soon.👍
I just bought my first welder an old school lincoln AC-225-S stick welder never have welded before so I'm gonna have some fun doing this always wanted to learn, I know I'll be using your videos as reference a lot. Can't wait to actually get started.
Awesome tips thx man kinda new at welding don't have a big machine well I just have a thunderbox Miller but like the bending your rod and turning it staying back Everytime I have to weld under something it is my downfall and your right neck hurting all bunch up so thx cool tip .....7018 my fav ...
So my business is named after my grandfather “Tookie”. He always would say exactly what you did, “you gotta watch where you’re going, and remember where you’ve been”. 6:31 Thanks for unlocking that memory of him! Happy welding! 🇺🇸
I have one thing for the beginners. That muscle control/memory for reaching out and welding or any other odd position you have to use isn't something you start out with. He makes it look easy because he is a vetran welder. It takes time and practice to do it confidently. What I'm saying is don't give up if it doesn't go well even after multiple sessions and situations. It WILL get easier over time. Just keep your cool and work at it.
Damn Chris that weld looked killer. My beads never run half that smooth even when I’ve tried study’n your moves. I’ve just started stick welding in Jan and prolly burned like 100lb of rods so far, actually random I grabbed a 5lb tote of Lincoln 7014 yesterday and wow that thing runs crazy smooth, besides my 6013, 7018, I might just like the 7014 the best this far
If I only had one machine it would be a stick welder (SMAW). It's a stick welder, TIG welder, welds most metal like steel aluminum, SS Castiron. Plus can cut, poke a hole in plates and Carbon Arc Gouge...
I used 1/8" pipeliner 8p+ for the first time today, it doesn't feel any smoother than 5p+ but I like it. I'm not sure why but the 6p+ feels like butter to me. P.s. I thought for sure you were going to say the rod that makes me money 💰
Hey if u get a chance, I dont know if you have mentioned it in any of your videos, but you should make some merch for sale, "Taylor Welding" hoodie. I'd buy it to represent, ur a good dude.

I’m barely a recreational welder. Self learned, though be it not very well. I’m learning a bunch from your videos while enjoying every minute. Thanks.
My first time watching this guy. Great presentation and delivery. I didn’t know Billy Bob Thornton could weld. 😂.

Wasn’t there some kind of porosity at the end section?
I don’t think so
Do you still have extra stubby’s? Would love to buy one off you.
What is your favorite welding rod?
As far as cattle gaps and such. I know every job Has its own applications and procedures. But I'm just talking about a simple well built cattle gap
My favorite rod is 6011. It gets a bad rap as a "farm rod" because farmers aren't welders.😂
6010 for sure, feels way more forgiving than 7018

How can I buy a stringer likes yours
You did reverse the polarity for the flux core right?
Maybe 🤔 not
What amperage do you run 5M on your vantage?
I don’t really know a little bit hotter than a 5/32

golden arm !
do you tig??
Have you ever used the millermatic 250x? Did you get good results?
