i ask before. what is recommende gearbox oil change for 107?
And i have plan for driver 80 days around the world in the future. With a Harley! Have you seen the movie or read the book? 80 days around the world :)
About to get my 1k service (or 1600km as you'd say here) done on my fxlrs2022 coming month! This was very informative as always; thanks Block, Chris and Justin!
Yeah right 😂
💪🇦🇺💪
Chris did the 1k on my 2022 Fat Bob 114. It cost less than what my Harley dealership wanted, but more importantly he did it when it was due. My dealership didn't have an opening for over two weeks.
I am happy with my decision and am planning to reach out to Blockhead soon for a dyno tune. Thanks guys! 👍
What did he charge if you don't mind me asking?
@@Txmechanic_ sorry I just saw your question...$415. Dealer wanted $650 and had no openings for two + weeks...
I wish ALL HD dealerships had techs like this. Considering the cash your paying for the service, it would be better if you ( the client, who is paying a premium for the legend) would receive equivalent effort.
Thought the 1k service at a HD dealership was free....
@@havoc1230 free and Harley Davidson are usually never in the same sentence
@@havoc1230 lol I just called for a sportster and its 450 at my local shop
@@tb9368 good god
@@DRUNKPOS they are never. Not usually lol
As an automobile tech with "a lot" of years under my belt, I appreciate your experience. Since owning my 3rd hd and having no experience working on these bad boys, I dig your channel. Thanks for doing what you do.....
Love the energy Chris puts in the videos, his humour pushes boredom and his experience makes him very worthy to listen to him.
Great job and all the kudos for him, cheers guys for the good work.
You guys are to be commended for your honesty and real talk. Thanks for cutting through all the B.S. that abounds in this world of motorcycles.
what a great selling point for service at the shop, simple fact of the no-nonsense above-and-beyond Chris does, It's a beautiful thing.
Feelgood Factor level 10
Chris is basically Michael J Fox in Scrubs, touches everything and goes "Bing" 😂 Man, he's so cool.
Tapped off and filled to the brim of good old fashion Knowledge, Thanks Chris and Block, Anna and Justin!
Subscribed. Great video, very informative. I just took my bike in for a 1k service and wound up paying like $800. I was mortified at the price 😂 but at least the amount of work I see being done explains the cost. Wish I lived closer I’d drop her off with y’all. Thanks again
I don't own any Harleys but I always learn something from these videos. I definitely over-tightened some drain plugs when I first started doing my oil changes. Now I know better.
Recently bought a '21 Road Glide. Getting for 1k service. This is very insightful. Appreciate y'all.
I wish I lived close to you guys. I love how thorough Chris is with everything he does.
Just had the 1k completed on my 21 Street Glide Special yesterday. Glad to see what all was involved. Although they have to order me a new transmission dipstick since HD switched from nice metal/chrome ones to plastic. Wish I could have ridden down to Orlando for yall to knock it out for me. Maybe I'll be able to have the 5k done there.
I've seen CVO's with no primary fluid on a PDI...so 1k critical fasteners is essential to catch whatever the factory or PDI tech missed...
Damnit
Had to subscribe
Learned not to tq the drain bolts to 14-21 (what the service manual says)
Will be just hand snug with a 3/8 socket from now on. I thought those specs were high but it’s what the damn specs say from the MoCo
You’re master mechanic is such a huge resource and selling point for your garage. Having someone like that on hand is amazing
Still my favorite motorcycle content channel..
Having just started as a tech for a Harley dealer, this kind of content is actually really helpful. As not everyone can teach us everything. Let alone in a way I can absorb the information given to me.
Guess I'm gonna have to start watching more content now, homework I can get behind.
It's a shame I don't have access to you guys up here in the North east. I would love to have Chris be the one who works on my bike. Love his enthusiasm and experience. Makes you feel like your bike is in good hands
Glad I live in Ocala. I have a 131 kit on a fatboy done through Harley but I'm not pleased with the HP(126). Torque is ok at 155. But I want more and looked at a procharger. I'm going to the blockhead shop from now on 💯
Do you charge the same amount as Harley for the 1K service, and how much is it? Thx!
I am at 1k on my 22 SGS and this video couldn't have been posted at a better time. I wondered what all was done at the 1k service and weather I should do it myself. After seeing this I am taking bike to dealer to be safe and keep warranty compliant.
The trick I've found for drain plugs is to use a small allen wrench. That will get it tight enough without giving you enough leverage to overtighten
This video is the first video I watched from blockhead after purchasing sportster s. Thank you for the very informative videos.
Seriously, been watching you guys for while now, even thought it's been awhile since the last time I've been on here. But dang, this was a great video! Yes, totally insightful and entertaining!
And like others, wish I lived closer to your shop. Good job guys!!
You are wrong about us not giving a shit-as a rider and bike fanatic that jacket reads badass. Making a living doing your hobby is gold. Wish your shop was in my hood. Love the videos.
I wish I lived closer, I would love to have you guys do a 100ci S&S kit on my '04 softail.
insightful. A new Sportster S. Things would be a little different but I am half way to the 5K service. Nice to know what they are looking for.
Best intro, period. Chris definitely needs to come out of his shell more often. Chris’ jacket is legit. LoL. This is mostly a Chris video and to have a guy who has the wealth of knowledge to actually check critical fasteners; it’s just awesome. If I had a brand new expensive Harley, I would definitely want nothing falling off. If my cover falls off going down the highway and I have to explain to my insurance company why my motorcycle cover is in a car’s radiator. And then I’ll have to check and purchase another one. I’m gonna get mad.
I love it every time you mention he's a 25-year experience tech.
And Chris goes on to say "No one gives a sh*t!"! Lol.
Awesome vid. man those fork pinch bolts were not even close. Hope my shop is as thorough when I take my RGL in for its 1K service.
Awesome service gentlemen! I was literally going to bring my 22 RKS to you guys, as I am just up the street from your shop. But Harley talked me out of it to keep it “certified” in the event I trade it in on a Road Glide ST in a couple years. They said it keeps the trade in value higher. Otherwise, I would’ve preferred taking it to the Blockhead Garage!
Private sale is usually better than what they offer for trade in.
That's the most ridiculous thing I've heard. They will give you 5 more dollars if you are lucky. I wouldn't deal with them just based on what they told you.
@@asoshkinmakes perfect sense to me
Love the video but question what speedo gauge/ riser combo is that? Looking to do mine soon.
Im at MMI in orlando right now and im still learning little tricks, thank you for that!
Awesome video !! I surly hope my local dealer does 1/2 of what chris addressed !!! 🤞🏻 thanks for posting this !! I’ll check them myself now 👍🏻🏁
Real info for the everyday Joe or Jolene, awesome stuff. Blockhead good!
Would love to have a in depth video about doing services. Trusting Chris with everything more than others I've seen before.
Speaking of critical fasteners, i usually check the transmission case/housing bolts.
I see a lot of small leaks coming out of the bottom bolts.
Usually after an exhaust has been changed, and then ran for a while.
Just scheduled my 1k for next week. Glad to see this video beforehand.
Ya that was a great video. Thank you. I’m about to take my 21 fat boy in for the 1000 mile service and I hope my technician does a comparable job as you did. Thanks again
Good interactions. The experience really shines through, nice vid.
Great Vid, cheers gents, From Karratha Western Australia
Man, i just had my Road glide get its 1K last month, and i hope they were as precise as you guys. Except for the dry filter install, CHRIS. LOL. No but honestly.. you got a great team Blockhead.
@5:00 there is literally a critical fasteners section in the manual that tells you exactly what fasteners they are for that model/year
wish you guys were in minnesota i'd book service and anything else you recommend, a lot of your stuff makes sense!
What gauge relocation kit is that? I have a 2022 FXLRS and that looks like the best option I've seen. I hate the one with all the “sportster” light holes.
The sheer amount of energy in that intro, LOVE IT 😆
The "money in the bank" chant got the sub from me! 🤣🤣🤣
Adjusting the clutch that way was new for me.
Did my first oil change at 300+ miles. Visiting another dealer had a oil change special. New engine may have some metal particles floating around from manufacture. Was goimg to it at 500. Always changed oil on first startup of a newly rebuilt car engine when it gets to temp or running in a cam. Factory HD manual for your bike should list critical fasteners. Yea I'm old school.
Very insightful, love watching your channel, keep up the good work
Do a quick video on the 2022 Low Rider S showing the risers and bars set up.
Loved Chris's transition to telling people to subscribe LOL . Great information as always.
I’ve always filled the filter so there’s less clatter on startup. But I know some of the other techs do different things where I work as well
I just hold throttle wide open and crank over the bike, holding it wide open won’t allow a drive by wire Harley to start and you can acquire oil pressure before starting. Gives me a lil piece of mind
Subscribed and glad I found you guys. Great job Chris.
Highly recommend portacools for the shop, cool our 7500sqft shop by 10 degrees, got 2 of them
Yes Chris we do give a s#$t. Personally I think it's way cool that you're so experienced, knowledgeable, and well spoken. Blockhead was brilliant in bringing you on board. If I lived close by, Id be using your services on my bikes especially my El Diablo. Keep up all the good work. And I am subscribed!
Great video! Do one on the 5K service
How does doing a service outside the dealership affect warranty?
Depends on what is done to the bike and if any problems can be attributed to it by HD.
Keep thorough notes on everything that you have done. In my experience no matter the brand or company if they can dodge out on a warranty they will. Having the receipts doesn't guarantee anything but it will help out.
What’s Chris’s thoughts on running conventional vs synthetic? I bought the maintenance package so all my services are covered ahead and I know if I wanted synthetic I’d pay out of pocket
I've been wondering that myself.
I try to ask as many people as I can because there's always some sort of school of thought.
I've also heard break-in with Dino and run synthetic after.( good Content?😄)
Where can we find the checklist Chris is using?
Thank you so much! This was a great watch!
I hope you guys do some older carbureted stuff like an early 2000’s Dyna. Lots of those bikes on the road yet
Lots of good tips. The Wurth Teflon is a great idea. It’s a little pricey thanks
Great video thanks, I would do service there but have ride 2000 miles 😢
IMHO, service interval maintenance is best summed up by one of the stickers inside the lid of Chris' tool box: Hope is not a good plan.
Do you also diagnose wash down tests on the engines b4 the warrantee expires.
definitely shows what my bike will mostly go through in about a week when it gets its 1k service
What oil were y’all using on the heim joints?
Thank you for posting! Got a ‘22 lowrider S last month and coming up
to the 1k mark. Hey guys, would like to ask where your customer got his sissy bar from. Haven’t been able to find one like it. I’ve subbed your channel and thanks again!
hey dude,,i bought a 2022 low rider s and i have a question. what risers do you use and more importantly, what do you use to mount the gauges ? i´m about 5´6 tall,,or small XD may u can help me to build up my softail. , would be nice,, greetings from Austria.
How much should I expect to pay for a 1k service? Thanks and awesome video
Ive seen those grips everywhere but it doesnt seem like they will fit bikes with tbw. Is there extra parts I need to get them to fit or am I just overthinking it
my bike has a free 1k since I bought it new from dealership. I ordered exhaust and tune from fuel moto (I know this will void warranty). Will Harley still honor the 1k check up even if warranty is voided? Thanks in advance and awesome video!
Awesome content man!
So he adjusted the clutch, between 1/2 turn, and 1 turn past bottom. Now if i wanted my friction zone closer to the grip, do I want to turn it closer to 1/2 or closer to 1 turn????? thanks
At bottom, your friction zone will be way out at the end. Doing 1/2 turn will pull it in slightly, and 1 full turn will bring it in considerably. You will want to do 1 full turn to get your friction zone closer to the grip.
Great video! Knowledge is power. 👊
Blockehaed, great video. I'd love to visit the shop someday when I get down to FL. I have a quick question. I just bought a 2022 Road King and trying to decide what oil, primary, and gearbox oil to use for my 1k. I saw you use Motul. Any reason that over Amsoil or Redline, etc? At some point going to do a stage 2 with Red Shift cam and DK Customs naked intake ( want to keep stock look) and fuel moto 2 into1 into 2 head pipe. Already have Rinehart dbx45 for slipons. That's gonna be it for performance mods. Not looking to make a "performance" bagger. What are your recommendations for engine oil, primary, and tranny? I was going to use Amsoil, but I saw you use Motul and never thought about using that, wondering about your thoughts. Thanks and keep up the awesome content, and YES I am subscribed. LOL
Please open another shop in Las Vegas. I mean it's all open road, lots of highways, and I don't have a Harley yet, but I know Harley dealers aren't consistent and I'm afraid I won't get the level of service you guys seem to provide compared to the ones in Vegas. There needs to be a blockhead garage in Vegas. PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great video need more educational content I’ve always been mechanically inclined and as plumber my wrenching skills are on point but all the little knowledge bombs are what I’m looking for the stuff you can only learn from someone who’s been mastering their trade over many years
How about adjusting the final drive belt or chain by how it rolls and tracks on the sprockets or pulleys. That’s more accurate I’d argue
Brilliant video thanks from England
So where could one find the recommended oil change intervals? Like what all needs to be done on every oil change
GREAT video! 👍🏽
I freaking love the shirt on Chris! I realize this video is 10 moths old but dang I hope I’m not too late to purchase a few of those from my local area HD’s
What the cost of 1k service at your shop? BTW great viedo love the look of the shop very clean and organized. I will be bringing my new 2022 low rider S in for its 1k service very soon.
Do you check the torque on the rear pulley bolts while your checking the belt deflection? My dyna lrs LRS pulley bolts loosened up at around 1300 miles. The belt would make a wierd on off on off whirring noise when id pull the clutch in, took it in and the tech retorqued the m and it was fine afterwards
Hi there !
Block, would it be difficult to test some cross fitment between models and years ?
Things like wheels, fenders ... anything that could be interesting.
Me particularly I would kill to know if I can put TC Fatboy wheels on a M8 Heritage.
Those kind of cross fitment tests are always very useful for modders ;-)
Thx !
great work.keep up the great videos
Man you guys are truly masters at your craft. I wish i had techs like you guys at my local dealership
When is Blockhead opening a garage in NYC? That’s the real question. I just purchased my 1st Harley and I’m looking for a shop similar to Blockheads.
man id love to work here and learn so much!
Where can I find the papers that day what is required for every service?
8:36 Clear warning about 18ft-lbs torque on the drain plug.
Service manual of my 2014 883: "Apply LOCTITE 565 THREAD SEALANT. Install drain plug. Tighten to 14-30 ft-lbs (19.0-40.7 Nm)."
God damn 18 is low range compared to that 14-30 play. Imagine the one torquing that shyte at 30 lol XD
What oil do you guys recommend for 2022 street bob 114
Hey great video and information.
The question I have is why is the drive belt soo damn tight
When bike leaves dealer as new? And why won’t Dealers
Adjust to proper tension at the 1K check. I used a bright color nail polish to mark the proper hash mark for belt tension on my 19 RG
Curious why you showed clutch adjustment but not setting the nut on the clutch adjustment? Seems like you skipped that part?
Wondering if you guys can do a video on security systems?
I just got a 2022 lowrider st and I’m trying to change the pin. The dealership showed me but I didn’t totally recall the steps. They’re in the manual but I seem to either be missing a step or doing something wrong. I can’t seem to get the digital display to prompt correctly
what if you go past the break in mileage let’s say 1,300 miles ? will then be an issues or effect anything ?
Excellent video 👍
