I feel like Jay is supremely underrated and doesn't get talked about enough. Just an absolute out-of-the-box thinking drummer and consistently gets better with each album. Incredible talent.
Tesseract has been one of my favourite bands for years and Jay Postones is such an inspiring drummer. The way he uses his cymbals is so awesome and adds so much to their music. Great video as usual!
Well, Jay is just a beast and legend, period. That 18" floor sounds insane like you said. The way he keeps time on the HH throughout all his songs as well is just a masterclass in timing and coordination 🤘🏻
Have had lessons with Jay - the hi-hat pulse on the left foot is literally the first thing he teaches as else your other limbs have nothing to mesh with during polyrhythms!
I had the pleasure of seeing TesseracT play live two days ago. Great Show, fantastic performance and an all around good time. Have really become a huge fan of Jays drumming style. Unfortunately I missed out in getting a signed stick from the Merch stand 😢 Thanks for all the entertainment and coverage, Andrew!
note an ounce of tension in him. that sweeping technique in the right hand and keeping that hi-hat jumping to keep the pulse. so relaxed and some chilled. every part of that kit is exactly where it needs to be, he's not reaching or straining to get to anything. perfect.
@@AndrewRooneyDrums The only thing I don't like it that it seems like Meinyl doesn't use the vocal track in their videos. The clean vocal hook is actually done by Jared as he's drumming. If you do choose to watch it I would watch the music video after, explains some of the choices made when you realize he has to sing a harmony at the same time.
Jay has been my favourite drummer for many years. His playing style is sooo airy. His playing is all about the silence between the hits. I've had the opportunity to have a drum lesson with him. He has an unique way of teaching. Very educational. A very warm and down to earth guy in person. I've been playing drums for about 37 years, but I won't ever reach his level of drumming. Some just have what it takes to become this good.
Loving The Warning reactions. I got to see them live in Atlanta Ga, here in the US last May. What a killer show. They just bring it! If they are anywhere you can reasonably get to you need to go!
The hand technique is his secret sauce... Those tiny little changes in spacing between notes that he gets is all in that wee whip he does and the hold back... Its such a gnarly technique to try pick up
Jay gives me kinda Keith Moon vibes in the sense that he is totally and completely absorbed in the moment and all those facial contortions shows how much he's expressing himself. Underrated ledge.
If you ever get the chance id strongly urge you to see tesseract live asap. Top tier stage show, lighting and the best sound production ive personally heard
Hi, Andrew! That was a really cool segment. Love his rack tom configuration, three across the top and a big floor tom, cool! His playing is like oil flowing in an engine. Love it. I really like the symmetry of your new studio. If I may make a suggestion; just behind your left shoulder is high hat stand. To balance your studio it would be interesting to have a bass guitar leaning against the wall just behind the high hat stand. It would fill a void while being in context with your studio. My apologies if I seem presumptuous. Regards, Alex G.
This type of swagger almost exclusively comes from playing live with other musicians. Practice at home gets you far but adapting to the variations, mistakes and improvisations of others will elevate your playing to a whole other level so never turn down playing live with others even if the music isn't your preference.
@@AndrewRooneyDrums Exactly! Although I no longer teach drums, I used to collaborate with bass and piano teachers to have our students do projects as bands and get a taste of performing live on a regular basis with different people each time.
I bought a cymbal off Jay years ago on eBay. He failed to disclose that it was cracked in three places. Luckily I didn't pay a fortune for it and it made a good stack for a while.
I've been waiting for more Jay Postones on your channel for a while now; he's got deeper pockets than Jeff Bezos! If you haven't already seen it; there are a lot more Meinl videos of him that have previously been released; "Juno" is an incredible one to explore, similarly "Sacrifice" is a very tasty listen. It's also nice that the Meinl videos are purely instrumental, so you get the drums as a focus while retaining context, but not having vocals shining brightly (Not that Tesseract's vocalist Daniel Tomkins isn't great in his own rights...). I may be remembering incorrectly; but I believe he is self-taught to be a drummer, I'm sure people in the comments can correct/verify if I am correct in my memory or not however :)
@@AndrewRooneyDrums Not that I want to derail a Jay Postones dive, as I'd love to see you explore his drumming a little more; but Chris Turner has also put up a new drum playthrough on the Oceans ate Alaska youtube channel =)
As a Spanish speaker, your Spanish pronunciation is decent (I've seen you adress Mr. Estepario in Spanish a few times) but you don't need to make your voice extra nasal. Take that away and you'll sound more natural and less forced.

I love the fact that Jay always looks like he's having the time of his life while playing.
Sure does :)
Same face live too lol. I love it
That's the face of someone loving what they do :) ❤

So musical
@@AndrewRooneyDrums Spot on, his orchestration around the kit is just genius

FINALLY more Tesseract!🤩, you gotta check out more Jay videos on the Meinl channel, Andrew!

perfect.
Going back and forth across cymbals like that actually preserves them longer because you direct the energy across the cymbal not through
Impressed with the British accent impression. Not bad at all. 😀
HAHA!
Thanks!
You should check out the Meinyl Cymbals video for Jared Klein of Rivers of Nihil. “The Sub-Orbital Blues” would be up your alley.
Great tip.
I assume all the Meinl vids are going to feature tremendous players

Jay Postones owns! My favorite drummer.

It's weird hearing this song without vocals. Dan's vocals are so immense. They really drive it.
What impressed me was he was so tight while being smooth and the lack of vocals wasn't even noticed
He is so smooth and relaxed. Awesome drummer.

Oh that's a good tip!
cant wait to fly over to Aus and see these guys live in a couple months
@JayTesseracT has the best rests in the industry
sucks that these videos have the vocals removed I would've loved to see you hear Dan's voice
Thanks so much for checking out the link! I really appreciate it. :)
You gotta love JP and MM
💯👌
It’s about damn time…..🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
You are such a sweetheart.
Stop it. You are
I hate him! With love! So bloody effortless! I hate him! And again with all the love I can muster right now!!
I hear you
Jay 🖤

Totally different playing live compared to a controlled environment where you can edit :)

I may have figured it out. Dude has adapted to not having to cut into a mix. Driving hat or ride would hit too hard. Crash and wash is the way.
Quick reminder, Mario Duplantier dropped a new solo

Can you do "Jon Rice" Behemoth
I mean..... you could have called him Post Ones! 😕🤣
Well I couldn't have screwed it up any more LOL
