      Not to mention they’re all very talented and one of the few bands that pull off not only timing but the execution of vocals live are comparable to the album. Normally live there’s obviously different circumstances regarding performance but they’ve never disappointed. Incredibly talented.

    Tesseract are kings of restraint. They could go nuts like Meshuggah, but prefer to excel at atmosphere. I reccommend Deception and Juno.

    • @iau
      @iau 4 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Anthony Kerr Absolutely nailed it. They make extremely complex music, while keeping it musical and groovy. They could go on and jerk off with a barrage of notes and fills and crazy time signature changes, but they don't. They actually aim to make good music.

    • @Andyw1228
      @Andyw1228 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      iau they do indeed very crazy time changes but it’s embedded in good songwriting and is very listenable by the average person

    • @TheBadThad
      @TheBadThad 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great description! The first time I listened to them I kept waiting for the crunching and it never happened - but I was banging my head the whole time. LOLOLOL I immediately listened several more times trying to figure out the time signatures - nope, Postones wins, I lose. hehehe

    • @Kira-qc4qi
      @Kira-qc4qi 4 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Yea but Meshuggah is definitely the wrong example. Meshuggah uses incredible restraint as well. They're probably the most disciplined and refined extreme metal band of all time as a matter of fact. A much better counter-example would have been Dillinger Escape Plan, Oceans ate Alaska etc. if you were looking for chaotic, or "nuts".

    • @Kira-qc4qi
      @Kira-qc4qi 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @La Nausée agreed. I hate to sound like an elitist, but if someone thinks meshuggah is nuts or unrestrained, they probably just don't get them.

    I went to a festival in Paris, end of 2014. It was called "Damage Festival" with the sickest line-up one could wish for this genre of music, and they were playing that night. I didn't know Tesseract very well before, but man, they gave me the biggest slap in the face I ever had during a live show, and that's telling something !

    Jay is one of my faves! You should check out some of his streams. Sits in sweats at home and makes all other drummers look silly. Trully awesome.

    I recommend the:
    old drummer of Opeth Martín López (also the main Soen's drummer)
    or the new drummer Martin Axenrot (also the main Bloodbath's drummer)
    both are machines :D

    Pretty much all tesseract stuff is played to a 4/4 click is what jay says.

      Death Onion ...Meshuggah

      @@deathonion404 Meshuggah literally took songs written in 4/4 and deleted random notes to create rhythmic absurdity. Even though they don't sound the same as Meshuggah tons of bands from Tesseract to Gojira are heavily influenced by them

    Weird time signatures glued together with soaring vocal melodies and guitar harmonies is basically TessaracTs MO. What makes them so incredible is it never sounds contrived. It always sounds like it's exactly what should be happening even though as you said, it's very hard to tap along or bang your head to at times.

    I'm so glad you finally got to them. Postones is such a beast. He's been doing some cool streams on e-drums during the pandemic too. But Tesseract is probably the best band from top to bottom to come out of the Djent scene.

    Enjoy the Tesseract. If I can make a recommendation, listen to the albums in order. My personal favorite is altered state, littered with poly rhythms, intricate guitar work, phenomenal vocals (Ashe not Daniel although both a amazing just different), truly unique and enjoyable.

    One definition of a Tesseract (mathematically) can be a cube within a cube with the same dimensions linked by their vertices but displaced along an additional dimension... which fits perfectly with their music because Luminary, Juno (and maybe Nocturne among others) is mostly 4/4 with displacements within them, courtesy of Postones
