Love love love Jay’s work. I think what I enjoy about his style the most is that he creates so much texture while making it also sound subdued. You can tell how disciplined and practiced he is. The dynamics he employs really gives him the ability to make the quiet moments rich with sound and the loud moments explode with power. He’s a perfect example of less-is-more. On one hand you’ve got drummers like Aric Improta who are wild and intense. On the other you have drummers like Jay who have this zen-like quality to their approach. And both have their place for sure. They’re both at the top of the mountain with the Danny Carey’s and Stewart Copeland’s of the world. What makes them all so special is the unique artistry they bring to the table. Each one plays with their own distinct and vibrant language. Awesome stuff.

Got check out Hollow by Jay. He even puts the measures above what he’s playing. He also has a separate video teaching it.

its a shame they uploaded the drum playthroughs without vocals (though i understand why), jay complements them so well with really disciplined playing

Gotta do more tesseract, plenty of content on youtube. From drum playthroughs, bass playthroughs, and PORTALS of course
