A Mini Pocket Selfie Drone!?! Dobby REVIEW

This is the Dobby drone from Zerotech. (as seen on Casey Neistat) It's a mini, pocket, "selfie drone" or quadcopter that is ultra portable and can be carried anywhere to capture your adventures in 4K photos, or 1080p HD videos.
It's controlled via your smartphone (Android or iPhone), has foldable arms, and some pretty impressive features!
Main Specs:
-Max distance: ~350 ft
-Flight time: ~8 minutes
-Charge time: ~1 hour
Some of its cool features are:
-Ultra portable, easily fits in your pocket - just need your phone to fly
-You can take off from the ground, or "Palm take-off mode", similar to what that famous "LILY" drone was promoting, just toss up and it'll take off (how it works: props are in a slow spin, when the sonar sensors on the bottom of the Dobby sense your hand is taken away, it spins up props full speed)
-3 different way to to fly the drone: Motion, Swipe, or Rocker controls (I prefer #3, the onscreen joysticks)
-Camera is surprisingly pretty good for photos! Video isn't amazing (of course it's no DJI Phantom), there is no gimbal. However you can manually pivot the camera in 6 directions, and using the built-in EIS (electronic image stabilization) greatly improves the image quality and stability
-Remotely/wireless view your photos and video on Dobby from your phone, download the shots and instantly share on your social medias
-"Short Video" mode: aim the camera at your subject, hold down the record button, and it will record a 10 sec video pulling up and away, and auto return to you
-Voice controls (never tried, I find no use for this), 360 flips (these work great, fun to show off to friends)
Main Wish List Items:
-Camera FOV (field of view) is too narrow, only 75 degrees. I really wish this was much wider to help capture and fill the lens with more of your selfie surroundings

-A small, portable bluetooth controller/gamepad would be a great additional to this drone, would help for more accurate and precise flying controls, if/when the situation called for it.

Are there any copters with a similar feature set that do have a controller? I used to have a P3 Advanced and had great fun with it, but man did it lack in the portability dept.
Nothing amazing out there just yet (most portable I've tested is the Mavic Pro.) Stay tuned and I'll prob review anything that comes close in the future

Did you update the firmware of the drone which just came out on 28th Aug? Seems that video quality and EIS has been improved.
Ha, I received that update the day I posted the video! Looked like a UI overhaul (much improved), haven't been able to test the new video quality or EIS yet - glad to see continued development

Good price point for this package. DJI Mavic is slightly larger but packs some serious features compared to this little guy. Still, a good looking kit and seems to fly as advertised. So about $1K us for Mavic of $400 for this.

Yes, I noticed that too, right as he was saying the video was OK. The jello effect is subtle but bad enough to ruin the video.
Greg Conquest If you use an ND filter it will dramatically reduce jello effects - so much they send one for free in the newer kits.

Has anyone heard or seen anything about these little drones kinda going off on their own? I've seen one video where a guys Debby started to fly off and he managed to get it to land. Any reviewer on here has his fly off in the city and never found it again. I'm just wondering what the issue could be and how many of these things have had this issue. Some people might be able to put out the money for one, but to lose it outright or have it get damaged because it acted crazy and hit something, (or worse yet someone), is not acceptable.
Shame, I thought it would be cool, but I'll have to stick with small size quads that will fit in a backpack.
It's controlled via wifi, which can be incredibly weak and uncertain at times (2.4 and 5ghz can be very busy in certain areas), in regards to flying drones like these. I'd definitely be extra careful with one

value for money, you won't find anything better than the Mavic. it's worth double it's price tag. This dobby drone is worth half it's price tag. and it's batteries are the same price as Mavic batteries! lmao
I own a Phantom 3 and an Inspire 1. Mavic is nice but no desire to drop a grand.
We have a Phantom 3 Pro and a Mavic. The P3P hardly gets used anymore (we basically use it because it's there and cost a lot of money). The Mavic is that good.
"video is OK" - it is awful! - too much jello effect to be of use. Nice idea though so hopefully will improve on next model.

How much are they paying you? It is a rotten video cam. It does OK snapshots but there are better little drones, like The Mavic Spark .
