    So at 199 gms or 7oz, the Zerotech Dobby is a tiny little drone that actually falls below the 250 gms limit of the new CAA registration rules coming into effect in Nov 2019, but as a camera drone, it's still subject to the same 50m rule from buildings and people, and 150m from towns etc. Yes it's primarily a selfie drone, but its GPS, relatively long range and hi-def camera makes it a pretty cool little starter drone, and also a useful drone for easy aerial shots when out walking. What's your thoughts on this tiny little drone? And just for info, yes I bought & paid for this! :) Cheers, Ian

      Ian in London it really is quite impressive, not one of those rubbish quality small drones, good features. Just a shame about the camera angle but small compromise for what it is.

      So I have a dream... of a drone following me whilst I play paintball. I would use it on smaller fields where games rarely last over 5 min. I’d either have it track me or have it use the selfie mode and instead of my face I’d have it follow the back of my head. Do you think it would be capable of this and how well does it take hits?

    • @IaninLondon
      @IaninLondon  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Isaac_L.. TBH, I think it would struggle to follow you if you were zipping around fast. And a paint hit would defo kill it. For good..... Apart from the paint getting inside it, the props might stop and it would fall to the floor and break.... I think you need a friend to fly the drone manually tracking you from higher up. 👍🏻

    Short and sweet. It's so cool to see these developments in the little drones. If you can get QI charging for them that would boarder on
    Sci-Fi . Set up a security net that has drones fly out and view the area of alarm and zip back for a recharge; while another takes up the search.
    I don't know what it is about your style with the videos but they really get my imagination going on what could be possible. Cheers!

    Good review Ian. Actually makes a lot of sense for a selfie drone to have the camera back to front because if you think about it it would function in a headless mode for someone framing a selfie picture. Obviously this camera doesn’t support headless mode so it’s a good smart way to get around the issue of controls being back to front if the drone was facing you. 8-9 mins isn’t a lot of flying though, but I guess for some quick selfies it would be ok. Btw, did you weigh the drone. I know many countries have the sub 250gm toy non registration but here in Australia it’s 100gms to avoid all the issues of where to fly it. Registration is only just coming in. Thankfully we don’t need CASA (FAA equivalent) just yet.

    • @IaninLondon
      @IaninLondon  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Still images are actually fine. It's a 4k camera. The only issue is no ability to move the camera up or down, so you can only move the drone itself higher or lower and turn it to get the right frame. But quality wise, it's as good as a mid range smartphone.👍🏻

    Hey there, Ian, thanks for the video, it was certainly great, kudos for you! 😄
    I wanted to ask youb couple things, do you know how to perform this shoot where the drone smoothly flies away and then comes back? If so, I'm noticing many people saying that when they do that, the drone suddenly goes offline, have you experienced this?
    My Dobby is on its way and I wanted it to get nice videos for a travel blog I'm planning to open so I guess it'll do the trick given the fact that bigger drones have been banned almost everywhere.
    By the way, do you think is better to stabilize the video in post-processing or upfront using Dobby's features? When it's too windy these black frames come up 🙁
    Thanks, man!

    • @IaninLondon
      @IaninLondon  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      This will happen when the Dobby loses signal due to its distance from you. As it moves further away, eventually it will lose signal and go offline. So, my advice is to practice the shot first to establish how far out you can fly it before it loses signal. On stabilization, you will struggle either way; I use the Dobby's stabilization as no post-production can correct huge wobbles that cause the black elements on the dobby's. there is just too much camera movement, so at least the black shows you when it's too great; you can edit out those clips, or zoom in a bit to hide them in post.
      Cheers
      Ian

    Everybody owning a Dobby should consider modifying its processor cooling system, as the standard system is heavy and a misconstruction tending to processor overheat during high summer temperatures. I have described my modifications here: www.rcgroups.com/forums/showpost.php?p=41214871&postcount=440
    In result my Dobby stays cool even at 30°C and bright sunlight. And it now weights less than 190g including standard battery.

      Howdy Taffy; funnily enough, you're not the first person to mention that! We had a Roman Villa near the village somewhere whose bricks make up the lower part of the 1,000 year old church in the village... Reckon there's plenty lurking under the soil! 😎 Cheers, Ian

    Hi Ian
    Can I ask. Carbon fibre blades for DJI mavic air
    Would you recommend them..

    • @IaninLondon
      @IaninLondon  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Stussy. TBH, I only think these are useful if you're planning on hitting trees and breaking the plastic blades. Happy to be educated here by anyone else reading this, but the weight of the plastic blades is already so light you're getting no meaningful weight reduction, so you just get the extra strength of carbon fibre, which only becomes useful if you're hitting things.... Cheers, Ian

      High pitched and whiny! My Mavic 2 Pro seems quieter... 😃

    • @IaninLondon
      @IaninLondon  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @STech Channel thanks for the stats. No doubt the Dobby props spin way faster giving the higher pitched whiny buzz. Even changing the props isn't going to reduce the RPM too much, so I'm guessing low noise props will only make the slightest of differences. Cheers, Ian.
