All that "cosmetic" damage can be concealed with a simple case and personally use a Mag-Safe style case with my last few Samsung phones and I love that feature as even charging/reverse wireless charging still works great and use a Mag-Safe wallet for my cards/cash that attaches to the case without issue. Although I'm talking "slab-phones" and putting a case on a fold-able would NOT cover everything to the same degree which is ANOTHER reason I have no use for these models.
I'm 99% sure the reason why dust protection is worse now is because so many of us had issues with the small brushes in previous versions. new fold phones are slowly improving, Still too expensive to consider buying one over a traditional slab phone. s pen needs to be integrated into the fold too
I’m not at all interested in fancy electronics but there is something totally satisfying about watching an expensive piece of tech be defiled like this. It’s like watching some of my wildest impulsive thoughts come to life. I wonder how many grams of sand that thing can hold inside it?
After coating the phone in sand, you should test how well you can clean it after something like that by submerging it in water. That way you can test another advertised durability feature while giving potential future folding phone owners insight on how they might be able to clean their phone after they inevitably get sand on the phone.
Never ever do that, water would just act as a binder and make the smaller dust particles cake up into a silt-like residue that does 3 things: 1) act as an abrasive when wet 2) be a sticky mass when damp, ending up extruded into all kinds of places it wouldn't have gotten otherwise 3) become hard residue inside the mechanism when it dries up, it could even lock up the hinge altogether You can already see in the video how the dirt had become sort of a sticky gunk on all the gears and surfaces because of the lubricant in the hinge, water would just make it worse and probably even remove part of the lubricant. I'm not quite sure how they can claim the phone can be submerged at all, putting water and dirt together is just about the worst possible combination for that kind of mechanism.
10:00 Absolutely! Would love to have my SD card slot and not worry about storage. Wish we could even pay an additional fee for people who need this service.
There are still good phones with SD card slots. It's just that some comapnies are better at persuading you that you "need" their stuff more. I wouldn't sacrifice an SD card slot even if they gave me this foldable mess for free.
@@vaultboy1419 i do agree with you. Unfortunately, I've gotten used to the spen so much, and I've heavily invested into samsung's ecosystem over the last decade that i can't switch to any other brand.

I'm never switching to foldable screen phones unless they make those screens as resistant as typical gorilla glass. But yeah that's sci-fi at this point.
To be fair the external screen is just like a regular phone these days so I end up using that most of the time I'm out and about. Its only when I'm indoors and doing things like watching TH-cam or showing family photos etc I open it up and at those times the risk of damage is lower. So it's not quite as bad as it seems. When it's closed the inner screen is mostly protected.
@@DanielBull Same, I rarely open mine when I am not home. I also paired mine with my PC and use it as a control pad for my drawing software. Really convenient to have my lesser used tools and brushes on a touchscreen and declutter my workspace for a bigger canvas.

I remember you not liking having to unfold it to use it. With the fold, you have a choice to use inner screen or outer screen more. Can't do too much with the flip closed
I went to best buy and compared my fold 5 to the fold 6. I honestly had a hard time seeing a difference in the folds outer screen size difference. The size difference is so small. Hopefully the fold 7 will be closer to what everyone is asking for and be the phone thats worth upgrading to.

@@alloverdaplace2043 I meant it's a cool design and mechanism, especially to look at. I'll never buy a foldable until the hinge is completely sealed. Then if the phone gets dirty and sandy, I can just wash it under running water and it'll be completely fine.

Just wanted to make a comment because I am dealing with this and it is super sad... Samsung and Apple very quickly pull the flagships off the market once they release the new versions. This means that for example, right now, I cannot purcahse any iPhone 14 PRO MAX locally, only 15 PRO MAX for a new phone, so they caught on the fact that people would want the previous year best product. I am happy this does not happen in the audiophile hobby, but it is something sad to keep in mind. Basically, s23 Ultra won't be around for long to purchase new once S24 ultra comes out, and so on. At least in romania, they do this every single year...
Because cheap phones with USF 2.x storage still crap enough to not really notice the difference (you can't even record a 4K@60fps video, even if thr chip is capable to do that, the UFS 2 is slow like hell and not capable to do it with 60fps, just like the SD cards what is actually even slower, and if you have a fast UFS 4 storage, the 40x slower microSD card is more noticeable slower..)
@@TamasKiss-yk4st if you're tech savvy to record at 60fps you have to know what speeds you need for the SD card. The default settings are 1080 30fps and that's plenty for most people
The reason I traded in my Z Fold 3 a couple of years ago was because NOBODY would touch my screen protector that needed replacing. My local repair shop, chain phone repair shops, my service provider and even the Geek Squad all told me I had two options: Send it into Samsung (Estimated 3 week turn around time) or buy a whole new phone. You should consider including a water test to the durability tests from now own, just saying. Always entertaining to watch your videos.
7:10 that was epic
1:51 stop scratching 😵💫😖
It’s a durability test 😂
SUFFERRR
He keeps going even after this 😭 I thought it was over.
Never ever do that, water would just act as a binder and make the smaller dust particles cake up into a silt-like residue that does 3 things:
1) act as an abrasive when wet
2) be a sticky mass when damp, ending up extruded into all kinds of places it wouldn't have gotten otherwise
3) become hard residue inside the mechanism when it dries up, it could even lock up the hinge altogether
You can already see in the video how the dirt had become sort of a sticky gunk on all the gears and surfaces because of the lubricant in the hinge, water would just make it worse and probably even remove part of the lubricant.
Makes it harder to flash a custom rom while you have all of your data backed up to your sd.
@@MF2_ETaube why can't u remove the sd card before flashing a custom rom? I've done it for years
For a 2059 euro foldable that's a joke, since the Vivo x fold3 pro is 600 euros less and is 2x better just without stylus support.
There are still good phones with SD card slots. It's just that some comapnies are better at persuading you that you "need" their stuff more. I wouldn't sacrifice an SD card slot even if they gave me this foldable mess for free.
@@vaultboy1419 i do agree with you. Unfortunately, I've gotten used to the spen so much, and I've heavily invested into samsung's ecosystem over the last decade that i can't switch to any other brand.
bro your voice is so soothing
Idk im pretty drunk, but the explanation of "..the deeper the phone get submerged, the more likely that water pressure will overcome the tinyness of the hole.." (9:24) is soooo good. Love your videos man.
the addition on an sd card slot would be the largest upgrade a phone has gotten in years lol
And an audio jack port or at least a second usb port would go nicely along with the sd card slot.
@@ranSmsB it would be so effing funny if they added another usb port instead of an audio jack
@oshwaflz as someone who own a xreal glasses that's a huge plus..
I was mad about the removal of the SD card slot. Then i realized I don't need it. But they definitely didn't have a legitimate reason to remove it except for money. That tiny thing can't fit into such a large device lol
be happy with u ipho e or galaxy s23 😅😅😅 ,
scratches at level 6 with deeper grooves at level 7. it's so iconic
I'm never switching to foldable screen phones unless they make those screens as resistant as typical gorilla glass.
But yeah that's sci-fi at this point.
Maybe if they can find a way to fuse flexible display between two regular display
Fair point. I couldn't resist though. I love the bigger screen. Hurry up with the durable displays though dammit
Um.. I think the new redesign is actually really solid. No one is giving credit to how good it is. It takes a lot of effort for that last few mgs and mms of weight and girth reduction.
I don't think people realise how aggressive he's being. And how strict tech youtubers are.
@@josanchez1536very true. Tech TH-cam’s usually are pessimistic about everything because they see all the latest and greatest things so they’re hard to impress
I have this phone. I used Folds since the Fold 4. I appreciate this video because it made me realize that I baby my phone too much.
I have a question, is your phone screen still work until now, or are you already change the screen?
7:47 Jesus, that was close
Am I the only one who gets really stressed when Zach cuts with the razor blade (box cutter) towards himself? I always feel nervous lol. 😂
Putting the ad over the screen peel was a dirty move, well played
5:45 "getting the 3rd layer of glass is a bit dicey"
Meanwhile the phone: "AAAAAAAAH THEEEEEEEEESEEEE PAIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNN WITTTTTTTTTTTTTTTHHHH THHHHHHHHHHHEEEEEEEEEESSSSEEEEE SLIIIIIIIIICCCCESSSSSSSS THHHHHHHHHHHEYYYYYY WILLLLLLLLLLLLL NOTTTTTTTTTT HEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAL"
I think the fold 6 looks a little wider than my 5; the inner display. But its mostly the same. The flip is cool but mostly pointless. You should have definitely switched to the fold and not the flip.
I perfer when u carefully teardown the phone and put them back together never the less great videos
Truly staggering the amount of engineering, design work and technology that goes into these. Works of art... until the knife comes out.
"Don't worry, Samsung. We are nowhere near the battery" -JRE 2024 6:17 😂
"Cuts live wires while the phone is on, proceeds to short the display power cable"
"Fold 6 catches fire in durability test"
Yeah nice add 'The future is mobile' cut to 6.10 where the phone is catching on fire. Good one !
You scratching that phone made me freezing cold
Everyone: $2k for a phone, that's crazy high.
JRE- I'm going to buy one to destroy.
I am shocked that the front display was fully functioning when the inner one was totally removed :D That really is reliving as it is the most fragile part of the phone so if it's damaged until it's non functioning you still having a working phone is kind of awesome! :D
nah but we gotta love zach’s durability tests excited to hear all the note 7 jokes
I always enjoy watching these, despite how much it hurts seeing the destruction of something so expensive, lol
The hinge is a work of art.
Not so much seems worse than the previous iterations as far as letting dirt in...that's not cool
@@alloverdaplace2043
I meant it's a cool design and mechanism, especially to look at.
I'll never buy a foldable until the hinge is completely sealed. Then if the phone gets dirty and sandy, I can just wash it under running water and it'll be completely fine.
Like a sand mandala?
@@alloverdaplace2043 Don’t forget Jerry intentionally "fed" the hinge with sand and forced it in by repeatedly opening and closing. I don't think the hinge may encounter such condition while using by a normal person, even a user in construction industry.😂
3:40 phone in construction worker's pocket :D
Honestly it's something I can see myself using. I love my iPad Pro, but it's hard to watch stuff laying down, or carry around at all times. Maybe when the technology matures, foldable phones become more normalize, and the price decrease, I'll consider one of these
5:52 thought Netflix was opening
I'm from Brazil and they do the same thing here. Only a few shops still keep their last year biggest flagships on sale, especially the Ultra models.
Jerry tear everything apart 👍🏻.
9:44 removal of SD card slot is the biggest scam
Interestingly enough, Samsung's A series phones from this year still come with SD card slots.
@@roerd it's strange you have to downgrade to get more features
Because cheap phones with USF 2.x storage still crap enough to not really notice the difference (you can't even record a 4K@60fps video, even if thr chip is capable to do that, the UFS 2 is slow like hell and not capable to do it with 60fps, just like the SD cards what is actually even slower, and if you have a fast UFS 4 storage, the 40x slower microSD card is more noticeable slower..)
@@TamasKiss-yk4st if you're tech savvy to record at 60fps you have to know what speeds you need for the SD card. The default settings are 1080 30fps and that's plenty for most people
Why
The reason I traded in my Z Fold 3 a couple of years ago was because NOBODY would touch my screen protector that needed replacing. My local repair shop, chain phone repair shops, my service provider and even the Geek Squad all told me I had two options: Send it into Samsung (Estimated 3 week turn around time) or buy a whole new phone. If its still like this then the new policies on screen protector replacement mean practically nothing XD
Thanks god Sam added the battery pull tabs, it would have been a pain to replace the battery otherwise!
