Wonderful analysis from a fellow Brit and Muslim myself.
I agree that Malaysia is a great starting part to go to other SE Asia countries. I have already been to Malaysia 6 times, Thailand 4 times, Singapore 3 times, Indonesia 3 times, Philippines twice, Brunei and Vietnam once each, and I have to say that Malaysia is definitely my favourite SE Asia country even though I absolutely loved Thailand and Indonesia. And planning for my 7th visit to Malaysia and 4th visit to Indonesia this summer.
I absolutely loved Langkawi more than Bali and Phuket. Yes I do prefer Krabi much more than Phuket and Lombok over Bali but Langkawi is truly a stunning island. Not much of a fan of Penang. I have been to Penang, Langkawi, Kuala Terengganu, Johor Bahru, Melaka, Genting Highlands, Putrajaya, Tioman Islands, Perhentian Islands, Redang Island, Kapas Island, parts of Sabah and Sarawak in Borneo Malaysia, and KL.
There is one thing I did do in Langkawi was a day trip to Koh Lipe in Thailand which was good because it is pretty close by even though I went to Koh Lipe again for 3 nights after staying in Ao Nang (Krabi) and Phi Phi Don Island.
In terms of cities in SE Asia, KL is my favourite but Bangkok, Jakarta and Singapore are right up there but also liked Ho Chi Minh City and Manila too. Modern Jakarta is something else especially around Bundaran Hl and SCBD district but overall KL is the best city

One thing about Malaysia is it's unique and genuine.. the people don't have to sugar coated to influence you for instance with the slogan of "land of smiles" etc but they're land of scams or whatever..😅 Every each of Malaysian people are helpful, humble and friendly.. especially the Malays and that's why long ago they can accept others to live in their country peacefully and becoming great diversity and so a melting pot of Asian and Western foods, cuisines and cultures.. hence Malaysia is warm, charming and truly Asia 🇲🇾✌️😊

@@travelwithwill1Btw thailand didnt come out with that slogan of "land of smile" cos this name is given by the world😊 Thai ppl are like Singaporeans, they dont need to self praise as the world can see for themselves & praise them for what they are according to real datas & world facts❤
Word of advice, never trust what malaysians tell u cos if u really know them well u will realise they are insecure ppl always craving for world attention, they luv living in their own cave rather than having the drive to learn from others.

    • @monalisaaltenburg4879

@@travelwithwill1I highly recommend that u pls try live in southeast(live in & not just visiting only), then u'll discover how self absorbed Malaysians are😂😂😂.They're so small minded & insecure ppl that they ALWAYS talk bad about the surrounding countries. They behaved this way is becos they have been so jealous of the successful nearby countries. Its a fact that they arent as popular as thailand or indonesia for tourist destination, so their name often been left out😂😂
They esp hate singapore cos they been behind sg from the day singapore gained its independence in 1965. If u are observant u will notice they always luv going to every sg post then start claiming how boring or how small sg is. Worst thing is they always luv to claim that singapore stole this or that from them & "thats how" singapore became successful🤣🤣 They just couldnt stand the fact that S'pore been highly developed & more successful than them❤❤ Singapore alrdy became developed country in early 90s but Malaysia is still in developing status even after after almost 60yrs later!!😅😊
In actual fact they never take a HARD look at themselves why they always fallen behind singapore. They are too prideful ppl that they simply won't even think of learning from singapore but only know how to mock or put Singapore down😭😭

Hello Will, a Malaysian living in Lausanne here 👋. Thank you for introducing my country to your followers. Malaysia also has a very affordable healthcare system where 90% of the doctors speak perfect English, hence less anxiety if you fall ill. Many tourists end up not claiming from their health insurance for the procedures they did in Malaysia because it was so affordable. Hope you had a good time in Malaysia 😊.

My experience with the formalities of going to Malaysia are different from what you describe in this video. For one thing, the vast majority of people will arrive through the airports, and you won't be greeted by soldiers standing around you with automatic weapons. That photo you included seems to portray Malaysia as a dangerous country to enter. But the international airports look like any airport anywhere in the world, and you simply go through immigration and customs as you would anywhere else.
It's also very simple to purchase a SIM card at the airport when you arrive. Crossing through a land border would be different, but if you're flying into Malaysia, you don't need to get an E-SIM in advance. Several of the big SIM card providers have convenient counters right at the airport as you arrive. You can get a local tourist SIM in just a couple of minutes.
Also, I'm not aware of any visa requirement as you describe it. Citizens of most countries around the world do not require a visa to visit Malaysia. Immigration at the border crossings issue a 90-day Social Visit Pass and stamps this into your passport.
I think what you are talking about is the new requirement for all visitors to fill out an online Arrival Card. This online form is the same as the old paper arrival card. You simply fill out your name and passport number, flight details and the address of your hotel. This has to be done within 3 days of your arrival in the country.
However, this is not a visa. I checked a couple of websites, and it appears that only nationals of the countries in the following list require a visa for Malaysia. Everyone else receives 90 days at the airport. So, there's no need to get a visa in advance.
    COUNTRIES THAT REQUIRE A VISA:
    Angola
    Bangladesh
    Bhutan
    Burkina Faso
    Burundi
    Cameroon
    Central African Republic
    China
    Colombia
    Comoros
    Democratic Republic of the Congo
    Republic of the Congo
    Ivory Coast
    Djibouti
    Equatorial Guinea
    Eritrea
    Ethiopia
    Ghana
    Guinea-Bissau
    Hong Kong
    India
    Liberia
    Mali
    Mozambique
    Myanmar
    Nepal
    Niger
    Nigeria
    Pakistan
    Rwanda
    Serbia
    Montenegro
    Sri Lanka
    United Nations (Laissez Passer)
    Western Sahara

Come to Malaysia if you only have a short time to spend in Asia, as Malaysia is a truly Asia. Certain parts of Malaysia bear striking similarities to China in terms of architecture, cuisine, and customs. You might feel as though you are in the India in certain places and Middle East in others. Of course, there are sections of it that can make you think you're in Thailand or Indonesia. Thus, you could experience Malaysia as a miniature version of Asia when you travel there.

There's no need to compare between the capitals of SEA countries. Different individuals have different needs and wants. If you want nightlife and adult entertainment, you already know where you're heading. If you want a more modern and chilled environment, less polluted air quality and better organisation, and better affordability, you already know which country you should be heading to. It's a no-brainer! Lol😂😂

Don't worry or talk about losing phones. Smart phones are dirt-cheap here except for the overpriced iphones.

please dont do the comparison video between KL, Jakarta and Bangkok. If insist on doing it, please leave out KL / Malaysia. Just compare it between Jakarta, Manila and Bangkok. We dont want any trouble with our neighbors.

Travel to Malaysia at your own risk. Do note that, police have the authority to raid n enter your hotel room at any time if they deem unmarried couples or lgbt are occupying the rooms. A lesbian couple got arrested a few years ago and got whipping.

That only applies for Muslims couple, not people of other faiths. That's why there's a huge number of non Muslims in Malaysia for centuries as the Shariah doesn't apply to them 😊
