Most westerners have bad perception about malls, not sure why?? But people in Malaysia and most cities in SEA need the malls to avoid the heat from the glaring hot sun. We need the AC.😅. Most malls in Malaysia have everything from the high end products to affordable products.
Come to a mall here and see. Haha. They are very boring and stuffy. And yes, you’re right. AC in SEA is essential. The heat is real! Just know you have the best malls ever. You’re lucky!!
Not a bad perception. I once went to Redeo Drive in Los Amgeles & the shopping experience was unreal. I love it. They have hundreds of shops and it's all open air. The weather is also nice. In Malaysia the weather is hot so prepare prefers to do their shopping indoors.
I am Malaysian, living in Seri Kembangan, Selangor state, only 20 minutes from Kuala Lumpur. I do not like malls, I avoid going to malls if I am in KL or any major city in Malaysia. Malls make me sick & I am sick of malls. They are too big, too crowded, too flashy, too commercial, too high with so so many floors I have to clime, so crowded parking spaces, and last but not least, they are very expensive -everything they sell is expensive. If I want to eat in KL, I go to regular restaurants (mamak or Indian Muslim restaurants, Malay restaurants, Chinese Muslim restaurants), regular food stalls (like so many in Kampung Baru & in my hometown in Kedah state), food courts, night markets, fast food restaurants, for examples. I enjoy eating & socializing at all these places wherever I am in my country Malaysia. But malls, no thanks. I lived in US many years, had a son born there. I did go to malls, but only small ones with only ground level floor surrounded by huge wide expansive area of parking spaces, no skyscraper many-floors type of malls for me. In Japan where I lived a year, I actually avoided all malls.
Why bother? They will not stand the heat in Malaysia if they go shopping outdoors. We don't need to fulfill their standards cos this is our country, we need AC! 😂
KL is a mixture of high and low. Concrete and jungle. Expensive stuff and cheap stuff.. don’t worry about food. And English is common, not to say all Malaysian speak English.

This makes it one of the most preferred retirement destinations in the world with its relatively low cost of living and first-class medical care at down to earth prices. And it's a place where English is widely spoken.
What a lovely video, thank you. Oh my, comparatively KL wins in almost all categories. The cost of living is still affordable in Malaysia. The cost of doing business isn't high in Malaysia. The cost of medical services are also quite affordable in Malaysia. You might want to add the cost of SIM card and internet packages are also very attractive in Malaysia.

I love your comment. It reminds me of falling in love with Toronto when I moved here 15 years ago. Toronto is a ghost of what it once was. I suppose I miss that city you described. I found it affordable 15 years ago too. It has changed so much. It is kind of scary and everything everywhere is so expensive. And the TTC is not what it used to be either. It is very unreliable now. How long were you in Toronto for?
@@yaaguu7 I went there as a student for my tertiary education, at the U of T. The TTC had 58 Stations with 2 lines only, the Bloor - Danforth line (Kipling - Kennedy), and the Yonge - University line (Finch - Wilson). The extension to Scarborough City Centre from Kennedy Station was under construction then. I have been up the CN Tower to the Space Deck more than 10 times. On one occasion they had to deny me access to the Space Deck as the wind velocity was more than 100 mph. Out of the 3 revolving doors at the Observation Deck, 2 were freely rotating powerfully due to the powerful wind. The other door was jammed in time with a wooden block to prevent the wild rotation. I managed to sneak out through the gap on the jammed rotating door. It was a wild and frightening experience, facing the powerful gust of wind.
@@samraj3179 wow! That is a wills experience at the CN tower. As for the Scarborough extension, they actually just closed it. They decided they don’t want to fund that line anymore and they are going to tear out the train tracks and use it as a tunnel to drive buses. Isn’t that crazy? The city has become so backwards.
Lived in Toronto for 4 years so fortunate didn’t migrate there! Winter too long and too cold. Yorkdale the only mall but is not fun; foods boring too. Services are too costly; hence weekends end up at T& T or Costco for groceries.. No life, no culture, people greet you politely but that’s it.
what the hell was that not celebrating anything to respect everything lmaoooo. on the contrary, sometimes i will go out and wish everyone a happy holiday to whoever celebrating that week, i love the lively celebrations even supporting/wishing them is enough to make me enjoy it as well
That is a great attitude. It is not something I see very often in Toronto. The whole “happy holidays” politics is a great example of what I’m saying. We say that in the west not to offend people who do not celebrate the same holidays. Whereas in Malaysia, people are informed on the details and meaning of other culture’s holidays, and know how to offer the correct salutation, offer the salutation, and also often partake in the celebration as well. For example, Christians are a minority. But everyone wishes each other Merry Christmas and decorates. Nearly everyone celebrates Chinese new year, regardless of ethnicity. Malaysians are a very well informed and cultured people.
Interesting observations. I lived in Toronto til 2019. I completely agree with what your mentioning. I saw the city change and become increasingly expensive, TTC deteriorating. I moved to Montreal given its better affordability, vibrancy. Yes, winters suck, are harsher than in Toronto but at least we get snow removal which is non existent in Toronto. In Toronto, now you need to make at least 6 figures annually to live comfortably...not everyone is a lawyer, doctor, engineer nor want to be. I'd like to travel to Thailand, Malaysia as I'm thinking of eventually moving out of Canada. Being a gay man, I wonder how being gay is perceived n KL
Montreal is beautiful but I really don’t like the cold. As for being gay in Malaysia, the answer to that question is quite nuanced. I’d suggest checking out this video I made about the topic: th-cam.com/video/R6Piv2DZ0lE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=xHVIpfOri5eJt5eH But basically, Malaysians are very accepting and loving. They are progressive but in most Asian culture and definitely in Malaysia it is not appropriate to show public displays of affection and to display sexuality (ie. wearing very revealing clothing, wear something that talks about sex, wether it be a shirt that says “SEX” or “I’M GAY”). Sex and sexuality is a private matter that you keep to yourself, regardless of your gender or sexual identity. There are no laws protecting queer individuals from discrimination, and, like many places in the world, sodomy is a crime. In the west this may seem unjust, but when you see the culture first hand, you realize the beauty in the privacy that far surpasses one’s desire to wear the rainbow or wear short shorts. What I’m getting at is: Malaysians are cool. They are one of the most accepting people’s on this earth. You being gay is not a problem. There is no active hate against queer people. But everyone there loves their discreet and private culture. Did this make any sense to you?
Thank you for this clear and comprehensive analysis....after watching this, I have nothing but extreme gratitude for being a Malaysian and be able to do a lot of things at a fraction of what it cost in Canada 🥹
I wouldnt say KL is cheap but it provide diverse options to people of many background and income in terms of housing, shopping and food...i woukdnt say were a melting pot but more if a tossed salad. Every neighbourhood and street there is diversity in the faces and foood you see as minorities are in 2 digit percebmntages
There's too many public holidays for Christians , Muslims , Hindus , Buddhist , Birthday of the Sultans in Malaysia that sometimes business owners are complaining. It shows the diversity of the country. Life rarely gets bored.

@@yaaguu7 Living in a warm and hot country such as Malaysia, I never realised this until I had to go to the UK during winter. The duration is short, but the feeling of wanting to go back is unimaginable. Sometimes we don't realise, that "the grass is always greener on the other side"
But for Malaysians earning local money, the low salary is also not cheap for us as the cost of living. Inflation is serious in Malaysia now, and it's even more difficult to live in cities areas especially.🤔
I totally hear you. You’re right it is hard to compare. The info I get is from friends and family living in KL. At the same time I can only understand things from my own perspective.
Even comparing with local economy KL is still far more affordable than Toronto as we still can get food under rm10 while in Toronto even getting food under 10 dollars is a pretty challenging thing to get. Not even gonna mention rent n other stuffs.
The priority here is for Muslim festivals. Not all non muslim festivals here are a public holiday but selected ones only. Hence, many local kids of non Malay ethnicity over a course of time here tend to not know their own cultures fully simply because their own parents were most likely brought up in the same way. Things get worse when your own parents / grandparents are not religious or spiritual and end up hindering you from learning the finer aspects of your own cultural background significances.
Thank you for your comment. I don’t know of any other place where so many different festivals from so many different cultures and religions are celebrated. Do you?

@Yaaguu7 This is one of the best videos that I have ever seen regarding Malaysia's Kuala Lumpur and Toronto, Canada. I live here in the Greater Toronto Area too and Canadians in general are polite but in a very politically correct way not to cause offense to other people. Canada for sure is one of the most expensive countries on the face of the earth. If you convert Canadian Dollars to Malaysian Ringgit it's worth 3 times more the money which goes a very long way. Right now I work as a server at a restaurant. Tips are a good income and provide good enough living to travel if I don't eat out and save money. I don't know if tips would be as good in New Brunswick but maybe it's worth a try. If you're asking about what job I plan on doing when I leave Canada, I plan on being a TH-cam creator. It is a hard journey and not the most realistic, but it's what I want to do. I was learning Python and coding but I decided that I do not want to be an employee anymore because it doesn't suit my personality. But if you take the time to learn coding (you can go to school or do it online) then you can get a good job overseas. In the future I plan on making videos about my transition to moving to Malaysia. I. Basically gonna film. Everything in my life. My goal right now is to grow my channel fast to have a regular income. I don't know how long it will take. My goal is to move to Malaysia by the end of 2025. When I get closer to my move I will be posting videos about it on TH-cam. I hope I answered your question. What do you currently do for work?

As for the Scarborough extension, they actually just closed it. They decided they don’t want to fund that line anymore and they are going to tear out the train tracks and use it as a tunnel to drive buses. Isn’t that crazy? The city has become so backwards.
💯 agreed, $100 flight to another country that is bonus .
Yes such a huge bonus. Gives you so much freedom to explore.
Lived in Toronto for 4 years so fortunate didn’t migrate there!
Winter too long and too cold.
Yorkdale the only mall but is not fun; foods boring too.
Services are too costly; hence weekends end up
at T& T or Costco for groceries..
No life, no culture,
people greet you politely but that’s it.
Yes that’s how I feel about Toronto. It is so boring and expensive! I’m happy you didn’t get stuck here!
what the hell was that not celebrating anything to respect everything lmaoooo. on the contrary, sometimes i will go out and wish everyone a happy holiday to whoever celebrating that week, i love the lively celebrations even supporting/wishing them is enough to make me enjoy it as well
That is a great attitude.
I’d suggest checking out this video I made about the topic: th-cam.com/video/R6Piv2DZ0lE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=xHVIpfOri5eJt5eH
But basically, Malaysians are very accepting and loving.
Correct yourself
Even pigs don't mate with same gender
You forgot to compare the Healthcare cost and services lol
That would be a good one, but I don’t have any experience with that. When I do I will make a video about it.

Definitely not a melting pot. Toronto is starting to be a melting pot lately. KL is definitely more expensive than the rest of Malaysia.
There's too many public holidays for Christians , Muslims , Hindus , Buddhist , Birthday of the Sultans in Malaysia that sometimes business owners are complaining. It shows the diversity of the country. Life rarely gets bored.
It sounds amazing. We barely get holidays in Canada, and when we do it is not a public celebration, it is a private one.

But for Malaysians earning local money, the low salary is also not cheap for us as the cost of living. Inflation is serious in Malaysia now, and it's even more difficult to live in cities areas especially.🤔

Respectfully, either you havent travelled much, or you have a hard time admitting that we have built ourselves a nation that can stand tall.
Do you?

This is one of the best videos that I have ever seen regarding Malaysia's Kuala Lumpur and Toronto, Canada. I would love to visit Malaysia someday. 🙂👍

As a Malaysian, food is serious business. You can have a viral "makan" place somewhere 200km way out from your home and still people travel to eat. That food can be anything, Malay, Chinese, Indians, fusion or indigenious. There's even niche branch of culture with Portuguese ancenstry with locals called Serani people in Malacca with their own unique cuisine. We celebrate almost 130+ days of cultural & religious holidays aside from normal Sundays.
